My husband and I stayed at the Chatwal to celebrate our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We stayed for 5 nights, We booked a Junior Suite with Terrace. Upon arrival there was a bottle of Champagne, flowers, a fruit platter and a very nice note for our anniversary. I felt the room was on the small side and can't imagine the size of a regular room. The terrace was huge and nicely decorated with planters. We faced 44th street but there was really no view. Woke up the first morning and phoned the bu... Read more

Quite simply, the nicest place I have ever stayed. The service is impeccable and friendly, the rooms are exquisite, and we were treated like VIPs. It's a half a block from Times Square, but just far enough to still be relaxing.

This hotel is in a great place just off Times Square and near lots of bars and restaurants. It has an Art Deco feel to it and the overall effect is pure class. It is a smaller hotel so if you are looking for a chain, then this is probably not for you. I also spotted some stars of the silver screen here too. Staff are attentive, check in was good and although our room was not ready they stored our luggage and we used their safety deposit box for our valuables whilst we went out exploring. Really ... The Chatwal is an oasis in one of the busiest paces on earth, Times Square. It's rooms are elegant, the attached restaurant (The Lamb) excellent (save for an oddly arrogant wine steward), the spa and workout facility convenient and well run and the staff superb. I have made this boutique hotel my home on over ten occasions and have never been disappointed.

The hotel is clean, comfortable and quiet (the rooms). It is a small hotel but if you are in NY to visit the town, I guess you don't need more than what is offered. The location is very good, close to Bryant park and Times Square. The staff was friendly and polite.

I went to the Chatwal because my daughter works for Starwood and she got me a room here for my birthday. I was going to see The Book of Mormon with a friend and the location of this little gem of a hotel was perfect. We at at the Lamb which has a 3 course "Theater" menu. Dimitri was a most excellent guide to walk us through what the hotel offered as well as the lamb and it's restaurant. This is an exceptional hotel. Art Deco motif done very well. We stayed in 809 and photos are shown. This is a large room with a private bath such that you don't wake up your spouse in the middle of the night by turning on a light or flushing the toilet. I have been to several renovated hotels where the bathrooms are made of glass. Hate that! Since it is 1/2 block off Broadway, it is very quiet. Breakfast was excellent as we had their brunch which accompanied by a jazz group. Truly worthwhile to... Read more

This hotel is well located just off time square, staff are very helpful and friendly. The hotel is very clean and has a good bar and restaurant. Reception could not do enough to help and everything I requested was completed swiftly. My only fault on a person preference is there are no tea or coffee facilities in the room.

This hotel is own of its best in NYC. Maybe not because of the building - only five floors - but the service is awesome and so many things are thought through. The location is great and the price compared to many other hotels is fair too.

To provide some background I stayed for one night (Sat-Sun) and as a SPG Platinum member, who spends over 200 nights a year in hotels, I booked the stay on points (30K/night). i arrived at the hotel very early, approximately 8 a.m., and not expecting my room to be available I was pleasantly surprised to find that the room was available. I used a suite night upgrade and was put in the Serenity Suite on the 7th floor. The suite was very well furnished and as other writers have mentioned the rooms ... Read more

Stayed here for 3 nights in a standard room. Quite nicely appointed with interesting accents and a spacious bathroom. Got a good night's sleep with no noise from other rooms or from outside. Loved the decor of the lobby and bar areas. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Drinks were a tad slow on what didn't seem like a busy weeknight, but we weren't in a huge hurry anyway. Wished it were a little closer to a subway stop, but other than that I would definitely stay here again.

We celebrated my husband's 40th birthday with a trip to New York City to see the ball drop on New Year's Eve. When we began looking for hotels, we decided early in our planning we were going to avoid the normal hotel chains. The chains' cancellation policies were rigid and the rooms were unimpressive and expensive. We were not naive and understood we were going to pay a pretty penny to stay in this location at the time of year we chose to visit. However, I can honestly say we did not mind pa... Read more

Nothing to complain about at this hotel. Friendly staff, good service, clean and modern accommodations, good attention to detail. still luving everything about this hotel. its intimacy, the breakfast, the room, etc. was a wee bit disappointed that i was not able to get a junior suite with a balcony, despite making my reservation months ago. also i feel the housekeeping has slipped a bit. each day, i found dirty glasses still n my room, no amenities n the bathrm, etc. i called the front desk & they immediately dealt with these small issues. i will still happily come back next year, tho! cannot beat its location!!

A wonderful experience at a boutique hotel which reminded me of the Prince De Galles in Paris. The doorman greeted us each time we came and went and even took our picture under the Chatwal entrance. I would give 4.5 stars if an option (below 5 starts for St. Regis, but above 4 for Westin/Renaissance/etc.). My room (3rd level up) was small, and a bit dark because the window isn't large, but the furnishings feel new, and it has a great sense of style. Some things were nickel & dimed on (no water in room when arrived, and was $9.50 in mini bar, and also no coffeemaker), but on other hand had nice selection of magazines in room and great Aprey toiletries. The location is convenient to Times S... Read more

Beyond the glitz and glam outside its door, the Chatwal has a hushed, chic luxury that is hard to resist. Gorgeous rooms - and wait until you see those bathrooms. They have great packages that change with the season. During a recent stay, I was given access to a Leica T to photograph my stay - some of the best fun I've ever had with a camera!

This was one of the best ever hotel experiences I have ever had. From pulling up to Valet my vehicle, unloading and having my belongings taken up to my suite...AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! My little black pug, Romeo was greeted by first name, a Butler came to the room within 5 minutes of checking in....with a water and food bowl. Bones were delivered in the evening. Every person, from guest services, concierge, housekeeping, elevator man, valet / door man...one was nicer than the next. I would h... Read more

Well though out high quality design and decor throughout. Clean, good energy, good customer service, and a feeling of going back in time. Rare particularly for this part of town near the hustle bustle of 42nd street / Broadway.

A wonderful experience from beginning to end. Greeted by doorman on arrival, helped with luggage to front desk. Very pleasant, professional, efficient, and quick check in by a wonderful young gentleman (unfortunately don't remember the name). Escorted to the room that was beautiful with all amenities of comfort. Power drapes, lights controlled from each side of the bed, comfortable phone locations, small efficient desk & light, nice arm chair, and a nice television. The bathroom was very comfort... Read more

We love this hotel. It is small and charming, with wonderful warm, friendly, professional service from all levels of staff. The rooms are comfortable, although "over-electroniced" for our taste. I really don't mind opening the shades with a pull cord rather than having to figure out which button will open them for me. And I always unplug the heated toilet seat -- too hot to sit on! And the toilet's "bidet features" are completely beyond me altogether! But we love this hotel, and their brea... Read more

The Chatwal seems like a very fine hotel. The door staff, desk staff, concierge and bar staff are all lovely, professional and attentive. In fairness, I suspect our experience was probably attributed to the fact that we cashed in some travel points for our room reservation. Room 302. We were given no upgrade options - which we would have loved to do ... but the exceptional reputation of the hotel made us accept the room we were given. I admit I was a little surprised. The room had a queen ... Read more

High quality and convenient midtown location. Rooms were a tad small for that price point compared to Langham or Pierre, but bathrooms were the real show stopper. Amazing rain shower and first japanese toilet I've seen in a New York hotel. Hotel restaurant is very nice and we loved our room service. You won't get much of a view, if at all, in this hotel. Concierge were very friendly, especially Sakura and Victoria, and were very prompt on all of our requests. One drawback which I thought was clo... Read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We usually stay at the W Hotel Times Square however the rooms have become too shabby. The view at the W is outstanding where as the Chatwal has none but in every single other way the Chatwal wins hands down. The rooms are finished to a high standard, there is almost a Gatsby theme to the place with the dark reds, metal and light decor in the communal areas. The rooms are black/ white/ chrome and the bathroom is also finished to a high standard. You have everythi... Read more

Recently, my wife & I stayed at The Chatwal for 4 days/3 nights. Every staff member from doorman to the butler service manager were fantastic. Our new friend Tenzin ensured that our stay was as memorable and as accommodating as possible. The customer service alone would be reason enough to return. However, the hotel itself truly seals it. Beautiful architecture and decor. Fantastic room design & space. All just around the corner from Time Square, Bryant Park & the Theater District. The Chatwal... Read more

This was my third stay at The Chatwal, and as always it was a delight. It is on 44th Street, barely a block off the congestion and noise of Time Square, but once you are inside it is lovely and intimate, with a wonderful deco style. There are only 76 rooms, and while it is an older hotel the remodel is top notch and luxurious. It is part of the Starwood Luxury Hotel Program. If you are attending the theater this is a great location. This is not a budget hotel, so don't expect low prices, but ... Read more

My daughter, my mother and I decided to take a last minute quick trip to the city since my daughter (5 and 1/2 yo) want to get away from the plain vanilla burbs of Pennsylvania. I looked up my SPG account to see if I had enough points for an one night stay. I have always wanted to stay at the Chatwal. Finally, I had a reason to visit. Fortunately, I had enough points for a night. (30k points for the Chatwal vs 25k points for the Sheraton. I picked the Chatwal). What a pleasant surprise! ... Read more

Chatwal is a great property with exceptional service with the perfect location if you are going to see a show. If you are not going to see a show, or hang out in time square, you may want to look at other options as it is a little chaotic in that area. Service was top notch from the front desk(Yana), bellman(Peter), housekeeping, and bar staff. The bar is top notch as well with some of the best cocktails in the area. Hotel was impeccably clean. Being an SPG Platinum guest, you come to expect certain amenities when checking into one of their terrific hotels. However the Chatwal is different. The Chatwal is of St. Regis "esq". It s just a fabulous hotel with very modern rooms and GREAT SERVICE. My wife and i stay there twice a year ( 2 nights a piece for each of our Birthdays) and ALWAYS have a great time. Also Breakfast in Jeffery Zacharions restaurant is always amazing.. Great location to Broadway and great shopping as well.

My wife and I recently stayed at The Chatwal for our wedding anniversary .......our first trip (4 nights) to NY was seriously tainted at checkout..during our stay we made 8 telephone calls to Australia, 4 of which were 10 seconds or less and didn't connect..........charged US$95.00 and four calls of approx 15-18 minutes each......total charge for all 8 calls US$1,113.00. We disputed the charges and after a few days were advised they were prepared to reduce the charge by US$600. No phone call rat... Read more

I have stayed here several times, and I am never disappointed. Rooms are well appointed with every amenity one could need and if you've forgotten anything it magically appears without much effort. It is a top rate hotel to challenge the St Regis and other high-end properties.

I stayed there 7 nights in August with my family. This is what a small luxury hotel is all about. It is in the very center of Manhattan, in the middle of the Theater District, yet it is in a position secluded from the overcrowded Times Square. The room was large and full of amenities. Room was cleaned at least twice a day. The staff was kind and attentive. We booked our dinners through the concierge. After hearing about this hotel from T&L top NY hotels, I thought I would try something different.. It's in the heart of Time Square, getting a cab or an UBER is HELL... When you walk in to the hotel there is a very bad odor, like a humidity AC sort of smell. Not the type of odor you want to walk into. Rooms are cute but very small. The Chatwal is a well appointed boutique hotel, with excellent service, immaculate rooms (albeit on the small side) and in a central location only moments walk from the hubbub of Times Square. Despite its location, the hotel was quiet and we were not disrupted by any noise during our stay. The only downside of being in such a location is that getting a taxi at any time was extremely difficult! That is not a fault of the hotel but something you should factor in when travelling around. We had the best time at this hotel on our trip to NYC on Labor Day weekend. Street side greeting was warm and professional and check-in was gracious and straightforward. We had a quiet double queen room on the 4th floor. The room was classy in a masculine way and the bathroom was spacious and well-appointed. The beds were comfortable and the climate control was reasonably quiet. Housekeeping did a great job taking care of our room. We enjoyed the small swimming pool and hot tub in the Spa and we... The Chatwal is a historic, beautiful art deco hotel! The location is very convenient; it's close enough to Times Square without being overly crowded. Stepping into the hotel feels like a sanctuary away from the chaos of New York and Times Square. Staying at the Chatwal is an experience in itself--for better. You'll be guided through heavy gated doors into a quiet art-deco style lobby. It's not the most impressive part of the hotel but still nice and cozy, especially the warmth from the colors and atmosphere against the blustery winter that New York hosts every year. Your trip to the elevators is just the beginning of your journey from the bustle of the city streets. It's a short walk from the lobby but with the sitting area and firepla... Read more

My stay at The Chatwal was very much a tale of two halves. The soft product - in terms of the front desk, the doormen and general ambience - is extremely good and very much in keeping with a 5 star experience. The location is great, despite being a block from Times Square (or maybe that's a good thing of course!). The hotel is quiet and I did feel as if I'd stepped outside of the street hubbub into a relaxed place. I put a lot of emphasis on first impressions and my check-in experience was gre... Read more

The location couldn't be better. The Lambs Club restaurant had one of the best pre dinner menus I've ever had. I travel to NYC several times a year. This is the very best hotel ever!!!
