"I chose this hotel for the reviews. The staff were extremely friendly, from the very first conversation, until the day I checked out. The hotel is located right by a Subway station, and the number one train will have you at Time Square in no time.
Starbucks is located right beside this hidden charm of a hotel. Also, we found a great mini-grocery store, just a few doors away from the hotel. After trying a New York pizza, taking four flights of stairs several times a day back to our hotel room, (sometimes carrying heavy shopping bags) was an excellent way of working off the extra calories. There is no elevator, but friendly staff always on stand-by to help with your bags.
The down side.... :(
I got a random knock on the hotel room door at 3:24am the first night.
The second night there was no knock, but I had a challenge falling asleep (almost anticipating the knock again). Also, on the second night (which was during the week). We could hear people coming, and going all night. They were not being obnoxious, it is just that the hotel has very thin walls, and VERY creaky stairs, therefore, every and any move could be heard, (taking a shower at 4:20am, moving suitcases down the stairs, etc). It kind of felt like the people next door, were actually staying in the same room as us. Perhaps, the hotel was previously used for something else, and the walls were never upgraded from paper to dry-wall.
For the good price, and good service, I received, I would recommend this hotel to my friends on a tight budget. It wouldn't be my first choice, but perhaps a very close second or third on my next visit to The Big Apple."

"The experience at the Marrakech hotel was extremely bad. The room was small and extremely hot. When I asked the front desk about the situation, the staff told me to open to window and that is a centralized old unit they could not lower the heat. The staff told me many guests complained about the situation.
We had two little kids with us. How can we open the window in NY in December? It was 43 degrees outside very cold.
This hotel is not worth $215 I paid for. It is a motel quality. The beds were old and crappy. Very upset.
We are very disappointed and upset. We did not have a good weekend getaway

"My stay at the Marrakech was exactly how I had anticipated-- a place to sleep. The decor is really nice, very interesting and has a real Moroccan feel. The staff was great, except they didn't bother telling us which staircase to go up to get to our room. So we walked up and down several times, searching for our room (which is a huge pain as it is-- they should at least have someone there to offer to carry your bags up!). We had to go back to the desk to find out where exactly we were supposed to go.
The soap and stuff included in the room is subpar. The water, at first, tasted like dirty, sweaty old man (don't ask how I know this-- I just imagine that's how a dirty, sweaty old man would taste).
The beds were fine for a night... they did the job. Everything was very clean, there were little to no allergens in the room.
They could REALLY extend the wifi to the entire hotel-- that was a huge pain, having to go into the lobby to check my email. Even then, there were difficulties-- the staff should let everyone know how to sign into the wifi (most people wouldn't assume you need to check into the mobile browser AS WELL as typing in the password on your phone).
Over all, I was in NYC for a couple of days for Global Festival and the Marrkech did exactly what it was supposed to do-- give me a place to sleep."

"I just hated that hotel. When we arrived there, we knew that would be stairs to the room cause they don't have elevator. What we didn't know that there was stairs to enter the hotel and nobody to help us with the luggage. The place smelled asian food. The check in person was nice. When we entered the room that was a small and dark room with no place to put the bags and a small bathroom. And also the room smelled bad.
I went to the reception and asked if they could refund my money cause I would not stay there and they said no because it was a pre-paid reservation.Just for one horrible night I had to pay $1045,32 USD."

. Had a leak forming on the ceiling in the bathroom. The bed was so uncomfortable and had a sore back. There were stains all over the stairs and hallways. There were no iPod docking stations as in the pictures. They really should update the photos online. It didn't look anything like the photos."

"After getting into the hotel at midnight, we began our check in process. I was asked to pay for the remaining bill of the hotel. I pulled out my email and showed that I had already paid for the entire bill in full, but they insisted on running my card for over $600 that she claimed was still remaining, and told us 'not to worry, we'll get it sorted out in the morning'. Well, we checked out yesterday morning, and it is still pending on my bill. So, I hope for their sake, I won't have to fill out a Better Business Bureau form to claim fraudulent activity as they are very aware when we asked them to remove the chargers throughout our stay of four nights and five days.
Also, I had mentioned in my notes that it was my birthday and to please change my room from a room with two double beds to a room with one queen or king. They moved my room to one double bed only and never once wished me a happy birthday.
The place is a hostel-ish type hotel. Very tiny (not like that mattered, as we were there four five hours to sleep each night, then off to more adventures). I am one of those people who read reviews and think, it couldn't have been that bad, and I don't mind if it is that bad, but overall, I would have paid $50 more each night for a more peace of mind sleep.
The location is great; the metro was right across the street, so that was perfect. Also, the Halloween decor was neat.
The halls reminded me of a smurfy maize-if you've stayed there, you know exactly what I am talking about.
The reason why I rated Overall Experience a 1, is because I'm still wondering if I have paid double the price for my room. I absolutely never recommend this to an enemy, let alone a friend."

"This was one of the four hotels I stayed at during my east coast trip and this was the cheapest, and surprisingly, my favorite for several reasons. It's away from the bustling crowd of Times Square, it's in close proximity to convenient stores and the subway station. It's in a neighborhood which allows you to witness the day-to-day activities of New York life. The place is small enough for the staff and guests to know you by face or even by name. Unlike the bigger hotels, I felt lost in the big crowd. The room was decent and fair for the price paid for, and luckily, I didn't see any rats! Other guests may complain about having no elevators, but staff will carry your luggage to and from your room."

"marrakech hotel is just one rung above a youth hostel. Within that price point one would expect more services and more comfort. In particular, they need to expand wifi access to the floors, do basic maintenance and train their staff to customer service standards. I had to deal with this duty manager, who was a rude, unfriendly, and plainly an annoyance. Security and door staff is very friendly on the other hand.

"I was not very impressed with my stay. I was traveling with 3 others and booked a Deluxe room with two doubles and payed for the price of stay. When I got there, the host told me she can no longer provide me the room I ordered and instead gave me a very small room with 1 full size bed. She offered me no refund or anything and said it like there was no problem. Now, how am I going to squeeze 4 people in this room with 1 bed? And why sell a room online for available and tell me its not when a guest shows up to check in. The toilet would not flush and it over flooded twice by itself! A daily maid sure did not show up to tighten up the room. The shower floor was dirty as dirty foot prints still remained. The room gave me a headache because it had a heavy bleach smell and i assume it was from all the blankets and towels washed. One of the nights as I was sitting in the Lobby, I sat there and watched/listen two of the host arguing and talking to each other in a very unprofessional way. I wasn't very impressed and left the next night.
The only positive I can say about this location is 1) very close to subway. and 2) the water pressure of shower was good.
I sure will NOT be returning and suggest not to book this location."

"this place is fine if you just need a place to sleep. the staff is friendly and accomodating, but don't expect much out of this hole in the wall. First of all there is no elevator. I don't just mean no elevator to your room, I mean when you walk in the front door before you even get to reception you have the most narrow, steepest staircase in history, and THEN more stairs to your room. The rooms are clean, but so small that the door hits both the bed and nightstand (the only table in the room) when you open it. The bathroom is decently sized in comparison to the rest of the room but the water pressure is awful and the water barely gets hot enough to create steam. The bed is not comfortable and the pillows might as well have not been there - I wish I brought my own. You get about 30 channels on TV but very random and a ton are just black screens in between one another. Overall, as a cheap spot to crash after a night out, no complaints. But don't think you're getting very much."

"Where do I begin? My family and I arrived on Saturday evening to find a '0 Star' hotel with no elevator to get us to the lobby and rolled barbed wire surrounding the building. The front desk staff was friendly and it was late so we proceeded to our room down the creaky, tiny hallways up a couple flights of 'unlit' stairs. We settled in and tried to get some sleep on the 'Flop-house' beds that were extremely uncomfortable. My wife awoke at 4am to the rustling of a 'Mouse' trying to eat my kids M&Ms from the table. We called the front desk and they sent someone who told us they didn't have any mouse traps, 'Seriously'!! We asked to move to another room with no mice and were quickly moved. 6am arrives and my children wake me because the smoke detector battery was dead and the alarm was sounding. We called the front desk again and they sent someone who brings a chair to reach the 9ft high ceiling. I told them I saw a ladder in the hallway down a couple flights. He returns and removes the entire smoke alarm with wires hanging and does not return. I went to the front desk and told them we would be canceling the rest of our stay and asked for a refund. They apologized for the problems and said the Manager was not in, but would contact me Monday. I contacted Bookit.com and they were able to refund us 3 nights, but the hotel refused to refund the 1st nightI I still have not received a call from the Manager 3 days later. This property should be removed from Bookit.com and be checked out by the NYC Health Dept and Fire Marshall. NO one should stay here!"

"The hotel is in a convenient upper west side residential location right in the hub of restaurants and markets. The staff were very friendly and looked after any request we had. Our overall experience is very positive and we would definitely stay there again. The room was small, typical of New York, but clean with a queen bed which was very comfortable, and night tables, desk and toilet/shower. There was no closet for storage. The suitcase had to be closed and upright in order to move around the room. If it were open on the floor, it would block a door or your walking space around the room.
The water temperature for a shower was tempremental at times not hot enough.

After being up all night flying all day and finally getting to the hotel we were told we were too late and they gave our room to someone else. The person at the desk basically threw us out and didn't care that I spoke to the employees. They were very rude and didn't care we were from another state and had nowhere else to go. "The staff was extremely accommodating and helpful at the Marrakech Hotel. Service representatives are available to help you carry bags up and down stairs, as well as to your room. The front service desk was helpful and polite and maid service was efficient on a daily basis. Though the room was a bit small, me and my girlfriend really couldn't have asked for me for the relatively discounted price and location in uptown Manhattan. The bed was comfortable and we were both extremely grateful for the air conditioning and personal bathroom. Rooms included an HD television to relax and watch at night, which was an added luxury. We would definitely stay at this location again if we ever take another trip to Manhattan, NYC. This hotel has a great atmosphere and comes highly recommended."

The location is unbeatable. 2 mins from the subway station, 4 blocks from the m60 bus that takes you to laguardia and sitting between a string of good restaurants and stores. "When we arrived we were a little disappointed. Hotel was very old and had no elevator. After entering our room we nearly died laughing, our room was a box with no closet. Bathroom was very small shower/tub was even smaller. We arrived at 1:30 am we were very tierd and went straight to bed.Because of the 3 hr difference we wanted to sleep in. However, early morning we hear all this noise people running up and down the hall loud talking. Come to find out the noise was not the other tenents but the cleaning staff. Our room was not vaccumed everyday and twice we had to ask for towels they didn't leave any. There office/breakroom was next to ours, a couple of times we had to pound on the wall to quiet them down. However, not all was bad, location was good checkin staff was friendly.Although we had a good time our accomidations were not acceptable. We got no sleep due to all the noise. We would not recommend this hotel it was way to noisy."

"Even though my address ends in NY, it's still a hike to be in Central Park @ 8AM for a 1/2 Marathon. But this hotel fit the bill. Yes, the room was small, but the linen's were clean, the pillow's new & the other guests quiet. There was no elevator, but it was a good warm up for the race. And it was only 3 fiights up to our room. Not so bad. The staff was very nice, only thing missing was a working remote for the TV. So since the room was small, wasn't so bad to get up to change the channel. And the price was the most reasonable to keep a over night stay within reason."

"The room was small but adequate. The only strange thing was that I did not have a closet. But the room itself was quiet and comfortable. There is a Starbucks next door, the subway (1) is right across the street, and there are many places to eat within walking distance. I was hoping to enjoy Riverside Park as well but it was just too cold outside. The staff was very friendly. Be aware that there is wifi but only in the lobby and lounge areas. Also be aware that there is no elevator, so try to get a room on the first couple of floors. This is not a luxury hotel but a great value, cute theme, and definitely quiet and comfortable."

To my surprise my stay at the Marrakech Hotel was great. The staff are very friendly and helpful. My room was very cute. It was small like most people say but it was not an issue for me. I will definetly be staying here again on my next visit and will also recommend to others."

"This is definitely one of the more affordable hotels in Manhattan and it is located in a great area. Right next to a subway and numerous cafes, restaurants, and grocery stores. The room is small but we didn't come to New York to stay in the hotel all day. We basically stored our stuff there and crashed there at night. The hotel itself is older which makes it seem dirty but it really isn't. The hallway our room was in didn't have a light so that was a little creepy but other than that it was a decent hotel. There is no elevator so be prepared to walk some stairs, but who can't afford to be a little more active these days right? Staff was great! There was always someone at the entrance and at the desk."

"While on my way to New York, i messed up my knee. The Marrakesh has no elevators, and the staff was immediately kind enough to give me a complimentary upgrade, which allowed me a room on a lower floor.
The rooms are very small, but absolutely perfect for any trip to NYC where you simply need a quiet, clean and safe place for yourself and your things. The neighborhood is great; truly 20 feet from doorway to subway. An all-around fantastic experience!"

"We visit New York City quite a bit so we we were not expecting the Ritz. Also we were a little unfamiliar with the upper West Side. We loved it, there are lots of good restaurants and night life. For instance, there was a jazz club just down the street with some great jazz, an underground pub that had poetry readings, an agave bar and really good Mexican food (we aren't talking TexMex here) as well as a great French Restaurant. The weather was good and we walked across North Central Park and went to the Museum of the City of New York. We are in our sixties so we were probably the oldest folks in the hotel and our room was on the the fifth floor. There are no elevators. We kind of enjoyed the challenge and they carried our bags for us. The staff was extremely pleasant to work with. The rooms are rather spartan but the the beds were comfortable. Furniture a little shabby. They might watch some HGTV on non costly upgrades. You hear some of the street noise. The lobby is very attractive. The only thing was that we had to call down for soap and a few supplies. If you are young or an older person that doesn't shy away from new experiences you will like it. If you are looking for Marriott type experience probably not."

"Hotel is not a 4 diamond, but for the price it's a bargain."

"Staff is great - front desk, bell boys, housekeeping, everyone! Room was clean; bathroom small but very well renovated; convenient location next to subway station and with pretty good restaurants nearby, lots of cabs; basic but comfortable; no elevator. For New York, the price was good. Not luxurious but perfectly acceptable value."

"The hotel was great, the staff was super helpful and the room was clean. However, the room definitely looked larger in the picture. "

"This would be a great hotel with some mattress pads and a few other extras. The bed was very hard. The hotel was very clean and the desk staff very friendly and helpful. Subway is right outside the door and the price is good."

"It is a nice hotel for the money paid. Please understand that I strongly believe that everything is overpriced in New York City. The hotel was accessible for my purposes (train, getting up- and downtown). However, there is no elevator in the five story building and the registration desk is up one long flight of stairs. If you are going to choose this hotel, make sure that you ask to be on the first floor. Also, it was advertised as having internet connection in the room. This was not the case. It was only in the hotel lobby. The staff was really great and helpful at every turn. "
