Stayed for 4 nights with family on spring break. Location is great for high end shopping (Hermes and Channel steps away). Central park also minutes away. The Met is a short 10 min walk along central park. It is definitely quieter and have a more residential feel than other parts of NYC. Hotel staff first rate, great bedding/linen. Decor is more old-fashioned and I believe there is some renovation on the way. I would say this is a great place to stay if you can find a good rate for it is pric... Read more

I'll start with the good - because there were some good things: The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The bar was charming and intimate and the bartenders were very professional. Location is great - near the park and lots of shopping and a much quieter part of town. Now for the not-so-good: We stayed in a suite and it was very spacious but. . . it was in dire need of an upgrade. Honestly, the sitting area was so mis-matched and dreary that we almost moved to a different hotel. Fo... Read more

A "classic" can encompass a wide range of qualities - both boos and bad. There are some "classics" that are exceptional from top to bottom. Then, there are the "classics" that were great back in the day but, like your grandmother, have aged here and there. The Plaza Athenee is the later - like your sophisticated and urbane NY grandmother. A little worn at the edges but still wonderful. The location, lobby and bar are wonderful. They all hark back to the best of the Upper East Side. The st... Read more

This isn't quite it. Lots of positives, you could do worse. Very friendly staff, knowledgeable, good vibe. Rooms, at least mine on the west side, was neat and clean, but dated. No nod to the 21st century. Worst part, had to sleep with earplugs. ACs of neighbouring building, just drone on loudly all night. I asked bell about this when being escorted to and touring the room and was assured that it would not be noisy. Perhaps he should sleep in the room. Check this out before checking in.

We arrived at this hotel with such high hope for a luxury stay at this so called luxury hotel for a two nights stay. The room we were given was so small with a tiny window over looking the small backyard lined with all the air condition units and nothing else. In spite of a promise from the Manager for a better room the next day, we were left in the same room and no apologies were given and no one from the hotel said anything to us. The room had no light at all so we have to use all the lights ... Read more

This is an elegant yet intimate hotel. It is a perfect location to explore the upper east side. The famous restaurant Daniel is right around the block, and there are many other sophisticated dining options nearby. Madison Avenue and Fifth Avenue shopping is so close. The Spa in the hotel is small but very nice. The rooms are lovely - the sheets are so soft! The staff is warm and welcoming. The service is fabulous. Highly recommended for an upper east side stay in NYC!

My wife and I stayed for a romantic weekend. We decided to stay in an older hotel for bigger rooms. It was bigger but awful. The fridge was like what you'd find in a student dorm. One window had mold. The curtains were tied against the wall with wire! Everything was old from the light switches, dusty curtains and really old bathroom fixtures. Then they want $10 for a coffee with a sub standard breakfast given its NYC. The service was attentive but snotty. I don't write reviews but had to for t... Read more

I had a very nice stay here. The room was fantastic and the very nice gal at Front Desk was able to get me a room very early in the morning, which was appreciated. I enjoyed coming back to the room after several busy and hot days of meetings. I ordered room service for lunch one day and found it tasty. Overall good staff. I have long favored this hotel but have not stayed on property for a number of years given five star alternatives that have fought hard for NYC business. Despite being a favorite I am concerned about its trending. But first, the security and water pressure (important concerns) remain excellent as does the privacy and excellence of the small bar and sheltered dining area. The nominal scale of the hotel remains attractive where a crowd of bellmen and gaggle of receptionists is unnecessary--we ar... Read more

Great location, great service, ( minus the fact that we asked for a newspaper in the morning and never got one), loved that they still do a turn down service. Negatives, the price about $400 for one night. My silk shirt got wrinkled and there was no iron in the room. I like an iron! The rooms were very small of course it's NYC ( I lived there for 10 years I know) and it seemed the rooms could use a carpet and curtain re- fresh. Five Stars are on the list, but it's not at the level of the other Plaza... but a good price for the neighborhood with all the major labels, but also lots of residential buildings- when you look for a lively neighborhood or even just a coffee shop outside the door, you might want to look somewhere else. we had a noisy room, as there was only a thin door to separate- apparently a suite sold to two parties. Just came back from a girls experience. I rated the hotel 2 stars: one for location since it is incredible- a couple of blocks from Central Park, Madison is right around the corner- just incredible, and the other for the linen (so soft) Now I don't ask for much and knew this was an "oldish" hotel when I signed up but unfortunately this hotel doesn't age gracefully. We were repeat visitors at the Plaza Athenee, but we won't be back after last night's stay. The property itself is gorgeous and well located. The beds are comfortable. New York has many fine hotels, but this Hotel must be placed at the top of the list. It is located on a quiet street, away from the hustle and bustle of the city but yet close enough that it is not an effort to walk to the stores on either Madison or Fifth Avenues. Smaller hotel in a great Location. A bit old fashioned but large spacious rooms, excellent and professional Service at reception. Fitness Center and spa available as well. Attentive Service at breakfast and very good room Service selections and prompt delivery.

New York was a stop on my way to the West Coast. It was quite warm in the City and the air conditioning was non existent. It was cooler in the halls then in the room. All is ancient looking, to the point of unkept and dirty. It seems the hotel is running on its last leg. Definitely not close to the hotel in Paris which is a jewel. Big mistake thinking these hotels are related.

The service was excellent and everything else about the hotel met our expectations for a smaller, boutique hotel. Very good attention to detail, friendly management. Will definitely come back in the future.

This hotel was a real find. Perfectly located on East 64th Street between Park Avenue & Madison Avenue, not far from Lexington and very close to 5th Avenue and Central Park. This is the posh end of New York. Nearby are all the high end fashion stores, for example Prada & Chanel. At this hotel, you will find one of the world's best Concierges. I've been traveling for years, worked in hotels for years too. Haven't yet found one, and have found some VERY good ones, to top Rick Cook. (Sorry, Ri... Read more

Albert is the manager and I simply adore him. Also Chan who helped me every step of the way and to Rick, who I've known forever and all the others who my friend Keenan knows by name. I also need to add that the new chef is heavenly and I had three great meals a day, something you usually do not hear from a type 1 diabetic! Great people here. Special thanks for Victoria with whom I had fun planning great meals.

Great location close to central park. Very nice staff. Property is in good shape considering it is an old classic building. All good, but ... kind of boring. Outdated and a little bit too old school for my taste. I can't complain as everything was impeccable, but the city has plenty of more updated and exciting hotel options.

I visited the Plaza Athenee several times. It is an older hotel in a lovely part of the city less touristy. I would say Plaza Athenee is an hotel for New Yorkers or people who know well the city. Its huge advantage are its much bigger than average rooms. It is definitely a plus compared to teh hotels mid-town, it has also a charming atmosphere. However, if you don't know NY well, it might be a little bit far from the touristy spots. It is close to Madison Av, and Central Park, but stuck between ... Read more
