"I read some scathing reviews before booking my trip and I was nervous. I've stayed in low budget hotels & hostels in Europe & figured I could handle anything! When I arrived at the hotel, all my fears vanished. The hotel was exactly what I needed. No frills, nothing fancy but a safe, clean room with the basic necessities. I traveled in May and the weather was beautiful so the window fan was more than sufficient. The triple room had two full beds, a flat screen TV, bathroom, small closet and dresser. (There was barely enough room to open the drawers of the dresser but I live out of my suit case when I travel anyway.) The floor and bedding were clean and the beds were moderately comfortable. The building could use some TLC and the rooms aren't new or modern but when you get such a good deal in Times Square you should know better than to expect the Ritz. The location of this hotel is absolutely perfect! Just a short walk to Times Square. If you turn right out of the front entrance of the hotel, you can see it. Two subway stops were very near and it was easy to get around. I would absolutely stay here again & suggest it to anyone who is looking for a cheap room to stay in near Times Square. Just be sure to have realistic expectations and you should have a wonderful trip."

"The hotel was old and the room tiny, but the price was very good for the area and it was clean. The desk help was pleasant and efficient. We woke to no hot water and eventually no water at all. They said the boiler exploded. So, if they had to turn all the water off, that made sense. I asked and they said it wasn't normal. I would stay again for the price. The hotel is a half a block off Times Square. It was quiet."

"Hotel Carter has an incredible location for all of the attractions and transportation. If you will use the hotel for nights' sleep only and have not much to put inside the room, it is one of the best choices. The staff is swift in their duties and helpful. The room and the bed sheets were clean, however the spreads on the beds were full of stains. The cabinets were not in good condition (e.g. drawers had no handles). The bathroom seemed to be refurbished. Though small, it was clean and handy except the design of the sink and a stain on the toilet seat cover. Thanks God, it was only the closet with cigarette smell (still everything you put in might carry the smell along). I would love if the windows could be opened."
