"On early check in we were offered, for a reasonable upgrade fee, a gorgeous corner suite on the 45th floor with a view of central Park and the East and West sides that is truly phenomenal - wanted to just look out the window all day! Staff were friendly and helpful, restaurant gets too crowded and chaotic for breakfast. This is a lively old world style recently nicely refurbished hotel with a spectacular location and views."

"The hotel room I booked was not what we expected. I paid for a Deluxe King Park View over Central Park like in the photos but got a room barely looking over the trees so we couldn't see much of Central Park at all. The view in the images would have been at least 10-15 levels above the room we were eventually given. This was very disappointing especially because I booked this specific hotel and paid a much higher price for this room type for our honeymoon which also coincided with Valentine's Day. I specifically wanted the unique and romantic views but didn't get them as I had paid for. The hotel toilet flooded when we first arrived which was disgusting and no apologies from the hotel. The staff in reception didn't make much effort to put us in the room we expected and were blunt even though I was being polite and calm given the situation. They wanted us to pay $150 more per night for 6 nights to 'upgrade' to a higher level room! $900, who were they kidding! As for the rooms, they are a little dated but this was expected. Room deal was supposed to include free wifi but I had to ask for the charges to be taken off our bill on 2 separate occasions. Location was great but with the poor reception from the hotel and a room well below our expectations for the price we paid I would recommend to stay elsewhere."

"I don't normally stay at hotels this 'posh' but couldn't pass on the discounted room rate from my online travel agency.
Every hotel employee I came in conctact with was very nice and professional. I used room service twice to get ice and they were quick on trhe delivery every time.
Our room package included the continental breakfast in their nicely appointed dinning room. The dining room had large windows that provided spectacular views of Central Park. The fruit, pastries, and bagels were fresh and looked delicious. There were plenty of waiters and they were all attentative to the guests needs. Breakfast there provided a good start to the day.
The location of the hotel was rather ideal for our visit. Accessing a cab was rather easy and the subway station entrance was just a few buildings over. CEntral Park was just accross the street and Fith Avenue shopping was just around the corner. We even walked back to the hotel from Times Square and the Empire State building and enjoyed the sites along the way.
Overall, I'd gladly stay at this hotel again if I could get a room rate that fell within my budget."

"When we arrived we were given a smoking room on the executive floor, although we requested a non-smoking room. The bellman went down to the front desk to get us another room key. When we arrived at the second room, someone was already in that room. We were then moved to a park view room on a lower floor, and given the amenities we were supposed to receive on the executive floor. The view of the park was magnificant, but the room needed a great deal of updating. The wallpaper was extremely outdated with mosquitos and spiders printed on it. The mattresses were from the 60's and sagged greatly in the middle.
The restaurant was extremely disorganized. There were ample staff who spent a considerable amount of time just walking around and looking, but hardly waiting on the tables. We had complimentary continental breakfast, which consisted of bagels, pastry and fruit. My husband asked for a menu, which became a 15 minute ordeal.
Our package included wifi, but it is only in the room. So, if you want to print your boarding passes in the business center, you will be charged a usage fee and printing fee.
Other than the restaurant, the rest of the staff was friendly and efficient. The location is excellent and I would recommend it if you can get a renovated room."

"We were excited to visit ny and stay at this hotel, but that quckly changed when we walked into the room. For the price we paid... it was very small and old.. The view was terrible.. 2 other buildings and a tree. The dressers were old and very hard to open.. The Clock radio was glued to the table. We also recieved a bill when we were checking out for the mini bar.. which we never touched! The main entrance was pretty but that was as far as it went. Our room was no better than a average $69.00 a night hotel.. It was clean for the most part, but the bathroom floor could have been wasted better. Nothing special.. Just a room. We were expecting more for The 'luxuery' status of this hotel.. We did see a few Celebrities by Time's Square... But we would definately stay elsewhere on our next trip."

"We were in the 'Top of the Park Lane' section of the hotel with a perfect view of Central Park. The decor may be reminiscent of the sixties era, however, all of the furnishings were in like new condition. The staff members were friendly and helpful. The hotel is ideally located with both the Ritz-Carlton and Plaza as neighbors. Each evening we were treated to complimentary drinks in the lovely Harry's Bar. The location is perfectly suited for access to many subway stations. We will be returning in the near future for more exploration of the 'Big Apple'."

"While the location is very good, the hotel services were mediocre at best. Our room was adequate and clean, but there were signs of wear in the bathroom---cracked tiles on the floor, a gouge out of the wall above the baseboard--and things were not as we would have liked considering the rate. TV remote didn't work; no ice available; one phone didn't work and we had to call to have the air conditioner fixed so that the noise from it was manageable. Not a place I'd stay again. The concierge was only minimally helpful when we asked for recommendations for restaurants, etc."

"The room with the view - had not much of one.The air conditioning was inadequate - but they tried to fix it. The bedside table lamp had to be fixed - twice - in order to work. The room was not clean [i.e.dirt on the floor stayed there as long as we did - 3 nights]. The restaurant was mediocur.
However - the bathroom was clean. They request saving water - by re-using towels and not changing sheets unless necessary. We did that.
The staff was most helpful - especially the concierge who make good dining recommendations, and procured tickets to the 9/11 site for us.
We would never have paid the full priace to stay on Central Park. So this was a good opportunity - I'm glad we did it. Wouldn't do it again."

"I really don't know where to begin here ...the room was not clean (thick dust everywhere, expired food items in the mini bar, the hotel information booklet had sat so long on the dresser that I had a hard time picking it up and it actually ended up leaving tons of the binder material stuck to the dresser). I was out of my room for the entire morning and most of the afternoon - returning at 4:30 to find that my room still was not cleaned! When they did come by to clean the room there was always something not quite right - they even made my bed up with a dirty (stained) comforter that was not mine as I do not wear lipstick to bed! I was extremely disappointed in how old and run down looking the room was. Do not stay in the 'city view' as it was nothing more than a blocked view of other buildings and apartment rooftops that were less than desirable to look at! The manager would not change my room for me when I asked for a different room and seemed rather put out by the whole idea. He actually told me that he couldn't help me and maybe I should check back with him tomorrow! WOW! Talk about customer service! Upon checking out I noticed that they were attempting to charge me for many mini bar items when I didn't even sample the 'EXPIRED' items that they displayed. I am not kidding folks, the M&M's wrapper was covered in dust and had to have been there forever! They were smart enough to cover up the expiration date on some of the candy bars with their hotel stickers but they missed the expiration date on the granola bar that had expired over 5 months ago! God help the people dumb enough to try and eat these items or attempt to drink any beer out of the fridge as it was not even cold. I don't know, for the kind of money that we put out for this hotel I feel ripped off! They couldn't even get my information right on the final bill - the address was wrong as well as the spelling of my name! Step up your game! I will definitely come back to New York - loved the city! I will NOT, however, be staying at the Helmsley Park Lane!!!!!"

"The Helmsley Park Lane is by far my favorite hotel to stay while in NYC! One of the best things about staying there is The Green Cafe which is located next to back of the hotel. Where else in NY can you have an breakfast for $500?They don't close until about 10:00 PM.
My hotel room was spacious, clean with a comfy bed. The staff are all friendly and when asked directions were always willing to help. You're really close to all the shopping on Fifth Avenue and access to subways.

"As a native New Yorker returning on business, The Hotel is still a great one. Dignified and well-appointed lobby connects Central Park South with its horse and buggy rides in the front to 58 Street in the back exit. Every convenience is at your fingertips - door people to help hail a taxi - no small feat in NYC and even pedicabs when taxis are responding to rush hour traffic. Rooms recently updated although hallways could use some sprucing up. As a business traveler the dining room and restaurant food and staff was excellent. Location was in the middle of everything. Fifth Avenue shops for window or real shopping right around the corner. Sightseeing bus stop right across the street for tourists. What a great value for the money."

"Overall a lovely stay. First night's 'City View' room was a bit of a downer, so we paid for the upgrade to the 'Park View' and did not regret it. Furnishings are elegant. Surprised at how shabby the bathrooms are, and the room phone had constant static that no one could explain. Restaurant staff is gracious, the receptionist kindly ordered a complimentary petite cake for a special occasion, and the IT staff who had to help me with the wireless internet access followed through.
Convenient proximity to subway and shopping are also major pluses. Would be happy to stay there again."

"The Helmsley Park Lane was beautiful! we were in a great location across from Central Park easy to find excellent Restaurants. The Hotel staff was great! the rooms were big and fantastic beds and linen. It was the least expensive in the area other than the Comfort and the rooms there were soooo small! These rooms were huge. We booked 2 rooms one had better air circulation then the other a little stuffy but quiet we were on the 33rd floor. Not a beautiful view but not the worst either. Would stay there again in a heart beat. And there is a great little cafe on W 58th st on the back entrance. for breakfast!"

"I asked if this hotel was renovated and was told it was and that it was a 4 star... By no means is this a 4 star ..everything is old still!! Old dirty carpet. Old towels. Dirty bed skirt with blood stains. Old towels. Loud noise all night from the street if on the wrong side of the hotel.. Internet charge when I was told it was free..fight to get the charge removed. Old shower curtains. Very disappointed !!! I would have never stayed there if I had not pre paid !!!!!"

"We got a such a great deal with so much exrtas, that it felt almost like 'stealing' from the hotel knowing how much the regular rate was. We paid $260 (for a city view) including 2 free drinks at the bar and 2 free breakfast!!! Try to find a better deal in a nice hotel than that! We also enjoyed a dinner at the restaurant (view was amazing) and it was delicious. Hotel really has a perfect location - right next to Cental Park, Fifth Avenue, MoMa and a nice walking distance to Times Square & Rockefeller center. Hotel's restaurant has a view from giant windows to Central Park where you can see ducks swimming in the pond and horse carriages passing on the street. Almost surreal! My birthday celebration was a total sucess!"

"Very enjoyable break. Hotel in a very good position, clean and warm. Did not eat in hotel, however had a drink in Harry's bar which was quite expensive.We were also charged for item out of mini bar which we did not have [ didn't realise till we returned home] Overall a very pleasant experience and would return to this hotel."

"Although the hotel was adequate there was nothing elaborate or elegant about the accomodations.
My reason for choosing that Hotel as there has not been a bedbug siting as of yet.
So far, I have not detected one and will hopefully not
But out of 10 I would rate the accomodations at 6. Good but not great"

"We had a wonderful trip to New York. The Helmsley Park Lane was a very comfortable place to stay. Staff, services, and food were all of the highest quality. The location was wonderful for our visit. We were within walking distance of almost everything we wanted to see and do. I would certainly consider staying there again on a future trip."

"My husband and I booked this hotel to celebrate his 60th birthday.
The sign outside the building not easy to see.
I asked for a Central Park view and was told I booked a city view and that was all they could give me.
We stayed 2 nights and the cost to park was $100.00 which I thought was excessive.
They do not have ice machines, if you need ice you have to wait for room service to deliver.
The airconditionet automatically goes to 72 degrees and appeared to manually adjust, but then went right back to 72 degrees which was warm and stuffy in this room for sleeping.
I asked for an additional luggage stand which was never brought to us.
The continental breakfast buffet had limited healthy food. The first morning it took about 20 minutes before we were offered coffee.
The one good thing was the Great location on the park."

"This is an old hotel with a wonderful location. Our room was clean but quite dated. The bed was extremely comfortable. We left the hotel to catch the train at Penn station only to realize we had left a backpack in our room, I took a frantic cab ride back to the hotel while my wife called the front desk and security had the bag to me in minutes, All during one of the busiest holiday weekends of the year. If you have the money to spring(we paid just under 400 for a 'city'view) on a park view room I would guess it would be much better."

"Perfect location. Located nearby to all attractions. Family loved it. Staff were very helpful in their recommendations. Room was well kept. Nice gym. And the view for breakfast was breathtaking. Will be back.. Great value for the price."
