"Three day stay and it was great. Nice room, loved the shower and location off Broadway was ideal. Staff was friendly and very helpful. First floor club was crowded after 9:00 so an upper floor room is preferred.
Would use again for this location."

Jubil from New York, NY
"I stayed at Flatorin hotel August 30th that looked ecstatic and vibrant with its wide view of a fish tank sculptured around stairs. The hotel had some classical features too. Although I live In New York, I desired to celebrate my birthday at a hotel in the city. It was quite convenient as well for me to walk from the club to the hotel. So I checked in a little after 4pm. The hotel room was not ready. They had to seek another room availability. I was waiting for the longest. Unfortunately, it turned out otherwise: my booked room taken. The choices left were a king size bedroom for 3 people or 2 separate bedrooms, which means the 2nd room was complimentary. I chose the separate bedrooms. Although that was not the original plan, I did not want to be separated from my guests, but I was happy to have my queen size bed to myself. The next shabby experience was no AC, and they could not move me to another room. It was unpleasant to get prepared for my birthday gathering and sleep at night in a hot room. Then awoke the next day with a bedbug bite.
Having to checkout and explaining this to the manager she settles it by giving me a discount for my next stay in the future. Satisfied. Also, they were gracious enough to hold my birthday cake in their kitchen fridge until I needed it for my birthday gathering. Overall their rooms are nice."

"On our first trip to New York we wanted to stay in a boutique hotel in a location that was central but not too crazy. The Flatiron Hotel was a great choice. It is ideally located if you want to go to the upper or lower areas in Manhattan as well as east village, west village, etc. The subway is 2 or 3 blocks north or south of the hotel so very accessible day or night. We also felt safe walking all around this area during the day, evening and late night.
The hotel has comfy beds and decent size rooms. We booked a queen size bed and the room had a great view of the empire state building from the 3rd floor. Unfortunately the safe in our room was dead so I called the front desk and someone came right up to fix it. The safe wasn't useable so they offered us an upgrade to a king-size suite. It was above and beyond what we expected. The king-size room had an even better view from the 10th floor!
We really enjoyed our short stay although we didn't spend that much time in the hotel so we can't comment on drinks, food, etc.
We did ask advice about restaurants, maps, and car service to the airport and the staff was super friendly and helpful. The free wi-fi was great since most places charge for it.
We had read the negative comment about it being noisy and hearing the trains prior to booking. We have to say, yes you can hear the trains but you're in New York in an area with great access to the trains get used to it or stay somewere less convenient! Also the lounge downstairs added a great vibe to the hotel and it was always closed by 1am so it didn't bother us at all.
We'd recommend the hotel based on location, value and overall experience."

"My daughter and I absolutely loved this hotel! The mix of old-world charm and modern amenities works. The rooms were spotless and we loved the upscale bathrooms and linens. The colorful furnishings in the restaurant and the frosted stairs circling the huge fish tank were an unexpected, fun touch (order the sweet potato pancakes for breakfast). Most importantly, the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful; especially the bellmen. The location is new for us, and it was perfect. I will no longer spend hours searching for the perfect NYC hotel...we can't wait to return!"

"I took my grandmother to NYC for the first time and she was SO excited. Let me tell you, she couldn't have been happier with your hotel.
The only negative was when we were checking in (which is a late 4p.m.), the room was not ready. However, they offered us a drink at the bar while we waited. It wasn't a terribly long wait, so not a huge deal.
The rooms were comfortable and modern. I would definitely stay here again!"

"We had a great stay - it is on the small side but that's to be expected of a boutique hotel. The staff was super friendly, the rooms were perfectly sized, the bathrooms were amazing (with TVs in the mirror above the sinks), the views were nice (I could see the Empire State from my window on the 7th floor)). Everything in our room worked (I was a bit worried after reading some reviews here.. they seem to have stayed at a completely different hotel)
The restaurant in the lobby has really good food (the mac n cheese was amazing), good music, and even better service. Oh, and there is a small restaurant a few doors down from the hotel lobby on 26th Street (across the church, I think?) that sells 'Presidente' beer by the bottle (it is an amazing Dominican beert) so that's a plus, lol!! ! Be warned that the rooms do not have bottle openers, though.
The train lines are only 2 blocks up on 28th Street, or 3 blocks down on 23rd Street, so the location is great for those who plan on doing a lot of sightseeing. The area itself is very quiet, not a lot of foot or even car traffic so you can actually sleep at night (unlike if you stay in the Times Square/Theater District area).
The one con to the rooms was that they do not have minifridges (there is a minibar but you cannot put any items in there as it has sensors and there is no space), but all you need to do is call downstairs and they will bring you up ice. You can also rent a mini fridge dor $10 - I plan to do that next time.
Enjoy your stay!

I'm a walk lover, so, was easy to me to go north until Central Park and south to ChinaTown. The restaurant and lounge is amazing. I have no complains. I'll be there next trip, for sure.
P.S.: No bedbugs at all. Silent and easy to sleep and rest after a crazy walk around."

"Our stay at the Flatiron Hotel was great! The room was very nice, the bed comfortable and the bathroom clean and inviting. The staff went out of their way to help us. One day they even let us borrow umbrellas! They were good about getting us transportation to and from places.
The lounge was nice, but pricey. We didn't expect to be charged for coffee refills!

"Recently traveled to NYC and were fortunate enough to stay at this reasonably priced beautiful property. It is in a great location being in these areas. The hotel is well appointed, even has a salt water fish tank with a circular staircase so that you can get close up to see the gorgeous tropical fish. The lobby area is quiet and adjacent to the very plush dining/bar area. There are soft comfy couches to settle in to. We had a double room, there were 4 of us. It was quite comfortable and the room was lovely. The bathroom is tiny however the shower was to die for...multiple jets with a very large shower head. You can even watch TV in the mirror when getting ready to head out for the day. I recommend this property highly and can't wait to return. The staff was so friendly and helpful."

"The hotel is beautiful, nicely located and new with great showers and comfortable beds. The AC/ temperature control system in the room is terrible. It is insanely complicated and the writing is so small that even with my glasses on, I could not read. My room was 77 one night and although I called toning was done. No sleep. Also no safe although I learned at checkout that there actually is a safe. Really. Ten maybe need instructions where it is because I looked everywhere Hope they straighten these things out because otherwise quite nice"

"All i gotta say about this hotel is LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION, this hotel is in the center of where you wanna be. Madison Park and Shake Shack is 1 block away, Eataly is about 2 blocks away, Jay-Z's 40/40 sportsbar/nightclub is like 2 blocks away as well. The 28th street subway is 2 blocks away. At 1st the area seems like it could be alittle 'rough' but after a day or 2 walking around seems really safe day or night. Tons of dining options nearby within a 1-4 block radius. Dining in hotel's lobby bar called 'Toshi's place' is relatively inexpensive and reasonable for a NYC hotel restaurant. Free wi-fi if you're staying at hotel, rooms were alittle small but more than adequate. Bathrooms were really small but were really 'modern' looking with a rainfall shower and a small tv screen in the bathroom mirror was kinda cool. Overall this hotel is awesome for its location and value."

"Fantastic hotel we really liked it and would certainly stay again. My only complaint is there seemed to be an electrical issue with our room, lights, door alerts (electronic maid service request) and TV not working that we informed the front desk about but it was never fixed during our stay. "But they need to work out the kinks. Let me just say, this is a very positive review in general. I am in the hospitality industry myself, so the criticisms are things that an average traveler may not even notice. First of all, the location is great, right on Broadway a block from Madison Square Park. Our room had a view of the ESB (if you got close to the window glass). Walking distance to the village and to Times Square. Many great clubs and restaurants very close (Hurrican Club, 230 5th, Bar Basque, Shake Shak, Sushi Samba, etc.) The hotel is new (I believe it opened in August 2011) so everything is not complete. They were working on mini-fridges while we were there and the bar is under construction. The remodel has been very well done. Elegant, hip, eclectic, comfortable. Lots of unneeded technology (electronic do not disturb/housekeeping, TV in bathroom mirror, electronic curtains) but some people may find that pretty cool. Linens were nice. Bed's were adequate. Decor was cool and luxurious. We had a very large bathroom (and room) by NYC standards. Staff was not uniformed. Most were friendly, but very unpolished. GM seems a little frazzled, but very nice. Housekeeping was very accomodating and friendly, but missed many details (empty ice bucket, leave fresh towels, change bed linens, don't take the robes unless you replace, replace toiletries that have been used, etc). Punch list for construction: Many numbers on doors are crooked. Protective plastic in elevators still visible around the edges. Hot/cold water takes a while to adjust but this maybe due to tankless heaters. Those that complain about the noise should vacation somewhere other than NYC. The hotel is actually very quiet given its location on Broadway. Something weird: every night (we stayed 7) there was an event of some sort in the lobby. These were strange 'hipster' type things that seemed to take up the time of the staff and looked very disorganized. I don't know what was up with that, and it didn't bother us, but I can't imagine that is the kind of crowd most seasoned travelers and business travelers would appreciate in the small lobby. Overall, a great stay and pleasant experience. I would highly reccomend this hotel for amenities, location, and price. If they truly want to be 4star and command a higher room price commensurate with that level, service needs to be more polished, attention to detail needs to be a priority, and the lobby can't be crawling with strange events. Again, service was friendly and not a problem, just not as polished as one would expect for a hotel that is claiming to be 4 stars."

"Small supposed to be trendy boutique hotel. No bell or door services upon entry. the smallest room for price ratio I have ever stayed in during my weekly stays in NYC. Wireless internet was free, but would work less tha 25% of the time,
Services are non existent, although the elevator worked.
You should re review the hotel yourself before rating it 4 stars. That is a joke, and a disservice to your customers"

"Toshi Flatiron had great very friendly helpful staff but there were some things lacking in the rooms -
1. No full length mirrors - to their defense I did see these sitting in the lobby apparently waiting to be installed in the rooms.
2. No hotel or local info to be found in the rooms. They had the binder for which this type of info should be located but it appeared that this too had not been installed in the rooms yet.
3. Every morning the automatic curtains opened themselves. I don't think this was a setting the hotel built in because it was not at the same time which leads me to believe that a remote for another room was also activating the curtains in our room.
Overall it was a great place to stay and I would recommend it to others."

"It's a nice place with friendly people, but definitely experiencing issues regarding their opening. The rooms are nice, not fancy, but clean and well-appointed. My room was right by a main subway line, so I got to hear it roar past all night, but that was a function of location more than anything. I'm not sure all the rooms would be as noisy. The gym is a joke. Four machines and the heat was running on high even though it was a warm day and a fan would have been more appropriate. Overall, it's a good place--kinda in the middle of nowhere--but if you can get a bargain, worth trying."

"As a brand new hotel finished in August, I was lucky to get in before many others did. I booked the Standard room but ended up with a king, which was nice and unexpected. Although the view from the 3rd floor wasn't breathtaking, and looked out at a building across the street, it wasn't too bad a view.
Everything was new and pretty hi-tech (ie: TV built into the mirror in the bathroom; a marble shower with various water sprays in addition to an overhead and handheld shower head; electronic 'Do Not Disturb' buttons). The staff was friendly. The pillar water tank is beautiful.
What was missing from the room was a full length mirror, needed by anyone who wants to get dressed. If they can get it together, the mezzanine floor would be a cute spot for a lounge/bar, although I do like how quiet the hotel is currently."

"First time in NYC, and Flatiron made the experience even better. Hotel is ccc--Central, Crisp, Clean!!!! The aquarium is spectacular, and the corner lobby area make it for a wonderful people watch spot. A cross from classic to modern. Too cool, tv in the bathroom mirror, a first for me to see. Staff was beyond helpful, and took time to understand what we wanted to do, and provide options accordingly. Our 'foodie' G.M. was extremely knowledgeable, and made sure to get input and feedback from our stay. This hotel is a definite gem in the Big Apple!!!!!"

"The exceptional level of customer service made my stay at the Flatiron Hotel Toshi unbelievable. Upon walking through the front door at 10:30 am, I was greeted by name and was able to check-in immediately. On my final night, I was also rushing between meetings and the front desk took a few things I dropped off up to my room for me. "Like the fabric of NYC that inspired it, Flatiron Hotel Toshi is a gift that should be given to any traveler. I felt as though it was designed for me and me alone. I was greeted by outstanding guest services, and invited into an enviornment that seduced the senses. Upon arriving to my room I was enveloped into sheer elegance. The color's, the automatic drapes, the surround sound, the in mirror T.V, the rain forest in my shower and to put the cherry on top.....The heavenly bedding of the finest thread count.
As a single female traveler, use to the finest things in life, I wish Hotel Toshi well and they will do well as they are just getting started...In closing, how something feels, how your treated, how you experience it matters...I invite you to visit one of New Yorks luxurious hotels.
To Mr. Toshi...I wish you well...to the staff, Thanks for sending me my retainer and all the wonderful things you did for me during my stay!"

"We 'stumbled' on a very decent rate for this past weekend. Understand that the UN's 66th General Assembly was in town...just after the 10th anniversary of 9/11/01. It was a crazy time to be in NYC and very hard to find a decent rate for a hotel room, much less availability. The location of the Toshi is great...particularly as it's just a block or so away from Eataly! New to us, we were enthralled with the food and the experience...returning each day for 'brunch' or whatever. The rooms have lots of 'gadgets' including a t.v. within the bathroom mirror! Very modern, very clean and great beds. Decent size rooms for NYC. The staff were wonderful...always aware of internal 'glitches' but did everything they could to accommodate. If you like a boutique hotel..you'll enjoy Toshi."

"I was looking forward to staying in a brand new
Hotel. The room was great and the people
Working there are wonderful. We had lots
of problems with the key system and I have
never stayed in a hotel where you have to
make sure the door is locked behind you
The negative is the NOISE!!!!! The walls are
thin and I could hear the TV from the next
room. Everytime the subway train passed
(frequently) it was as if we were sleeping on
the street. We were awake most of the night
for the four nights we stayed there."

"I have stayed in NYC a dozen times and this place takes the cake. From the comfy King bed, nice linens, high ceilings, stereo with 6 speakers in the ceiling, a tv inside the mirror of the bath room, to the eight head rain shower and I could go on. The building is centrally located to pretty much everything. You can catch the subway 1 street over which makes life easy. Every single employee had it together, from check in, to check out. The lobby has a 40ft salt water fish tank that is amazing. The only missing at this place was a bar. But wait, they are building one in a few months. I will be staying here many more times. Great job!"

"Housekeeping was unorganized, lack of bellmen was hard to deal with luggage. Good location, nice staff but not worth the price. This is at best a 2 star hotel.

"Looked for a 1 night stay in New York. Found a 'new opening' deal at the Flatiron (no cheap hotels in New York). The place was new, very clean, modern, staff were great. The lobby area still needs a little more filling out with furniture, etc but not like we spent much time there. Hotel was close to subway and located for easy access either uptown or downtown. Wouldn't hesitate to go back."

"When I arrived about 11PM I was a little concerned. The lobby is pretty plain except for a massive aquarium (which is really cool).
The reception desk and the lady behind it left a little to be desired, super plain and not the most professional young lady. She was friendly, just not the professional type I sort of expected. Kind of teenager-ish.
So, it was late, I was tired. I'm wondering what to expect with my room.
That's where the real surprise entered. The room was REALLY nice.
Great lighting (complete with dimmers). A gorgeous bathroom with marble throughout. One of those showers with jets that hit you from everywhere. A nice flat screen TV in the bedroom. Even a TV that displays in the bathroom mirror.
Overall, my 2 night stay was excellent.
Keep in mind this is a boutique hotel. Things that are NOT included: room service, mini bars, a workout room, and other things that business travelers may be accustomed to.
But it's a simple, friendly, no nonsense hotel with really stellar rooms. THey spared no expense with the decor.
P.S. The air conditioning totally rocked. If you're like me and like a cool room to sleep in, it will NOT disappoint."

"This was our first trip to NY. I took my 22 year old daughter and her two best friends and we planned to stay 4 days. After delays, cancellations, and a stay in another city, Delta finally got us to NY. We arrived tired and discouraged. The staff at this hotel was absolutely wonderful. They made sure we had the best room in the hotel, and helped us map out our activities to guarantee us covering as much as possible in our shortened stay. Our every request was met and our stay was so comfortable. The beds are heavenly, the rooms were spotless, and everything was decorated so beautifully! It is located near the subway and we had no trouble getting all over the city. One evening we were in the lobby, getting ready to get a cab and head to Times Square for the evening. The Owner, Mr. Toshi was in the lobby, introduced himself to us, offered us champagne, and had a staff member get us a taxi. We had champagne and took pictures with him, it was the start to a fun filled evening. We will stay at this hotel again"
