"We got to NYC pretty late around 11 after our 4 hour bus ride from Boston and after getting a bit to eat we were exhausted. We arrived at the hotel around midnight or so and we had a big day tomorrow so we all 3 of us sisters need showers and to hit the bed. My middle sister was mid way through her shower when she realized the drain the shower was not working at all!
We immediately informed the hotel and they said someone would be up soon, which is fine but we all really needed to wash and waiting for it to get fixed was a bit of a let down, so I asked if we could get a different room and they informed us the hotel was fully booked but we could use half a suite upstairs to take showers. So we had to wait for the key to the upstairs, so after waiting a good 20-25 minutes we made our way upstairs and we were able to wash but it was missing soap and things so we had to go back downstairs to get some. After just 2 of us washed (I volunteered to get up extra early to wash the next day)we were ready for bed it was around 2 A.M and we were just flat exhausted. We got only 4 1/2 hours of sleep .
The hotel was good to give us a $75 discount the next day when we checked out and a discount for a next trip which made it a little better.
The overall staff was good, no issues there! The hotel was very cute and I like the overall look of the place. Lot of brown and bronze which I love. The only thing I could possibly complain about was the curtain in my room was either stained or dirty, and the heater did clank a little but it was very old. Overall I would possibly stay again....showers clogging it could happen..especially if the person staying right before us never said a thing, and if I stay I will use that discount for sure!"

"Oh dear, Empire. After several happy stays there whilst in NYC on business over the past few years, this was not a good experience.
Arriving late from a Transatlantic flight, I was too tired to do anything about the intermittent loud banging and rattling from a heating system in its death-throes on the first night, but when I got back from a day of meetings the second evening I asked at reception if someone could attend to it the following day - again, it was too late to want service engineers poking about, and I thought I was being considerate by not asking for immediate attention. The reply 'Well, I could make a note for the people tomorrow, but it might get lost or something, so the best thing is if you report it again tomorrow' - came across to me as 'You know what - I can't be bothered. Try someone else when I'm not around. Your problem.' This is NOT good customer relations.
Add to this the cost of the in-room WiFi. Under duress, I can just about cope with having to pay $34 for three day's Internet on top of $1,000 for the room, but after connecting my iPad to the 1Mb stream I found they wanted ADDITIONAL money to connect a laptop or iPhone: the charge is PER ITEM! If I'd been with my wife, we could have been looking at $200 just for Internet connection.
Sorry Empire, you'l have to do better than this.

"I was thrilled with my experience at the Empire Hotel. The location is central to everywhere I wanted to be. Located on Broadway, it is an easy walk to Central Park, Time Square, Lincoln Center, and almost all of the theaters. Chris,the concierge, as well as Daniel,the doorman, were extremely helpful with recommendations and directions. There is a great restaurant located in the hotel as well as many others very nearby. I would absolutely stay there again and definitely recommend it to anyone else headed that way."

"Check in was quick, valet parked the car for $60.00 for one day, room is small but for NYC I wasn't surprised. No view, the pool bar is nice but there is a number of stairs you have to take to get there, ok for me but can't see taking a small child or older person up and down. The pool is miniscule! and there are no lifeguards, so if you don't mind babies in diapers in the pool it is ok. Everything else was good, room service breakfast was very tasty! All in all, a good birthday at a landmark hotel."

"Great Service! Entire staff made a point to be very polite and welcoming! Excellent room with clean an chic furnishings, and the rooftop is the selling point. The pool is a tiny rectangle but its great lounging for the summer and great view of columbus circle. The rooftop bar is amazing and beautiful as well. I would definitely recommend!!!!"

"We stayed in room 305 and it was VERY small. The shower stall does not close and there was water all over the floor. I was hoping that there would be a view but we looked at the back of a building. It was also a corner room, and we were hoping it was going to be a bit larger and it was not. For some one who wants a roof top experience it was VERY worth it! The space on the roof was very beautiful the staff was very friendly and helpful. They provide everything you need. The view is spectacular. Have to be aware every thing in on call in the rooms from ironing boards and ice but they are prompt. Over all the fact that it is very centrally located and not in the middle of time square is very nice, only about a mile walk to every thing. Which is not much in new york and about 2 block from the park. Always cab out front if you need one. Very Very good if you don't want to spend any time in your room"

"Hello, We've just came back from our trip to New York. It was a spring break for kids and they have been waiting for this trip. First of all, the package included another hotel, and this is where we wanted to stay exactly. When the first payment was made, I got a message that the hotel is not available anymore, but a similar hotel can be easily found. We were changed to this hotel. And let me tell you - there is no comparison between the two. I called a few days before our arrival date and they reassured me that everything is confirmed and fine. And of course, when we finally arrived (it was a long flight), there was no room for us. I had felling they didn't expect to see us. After 15 minutes of waiting (the guy ran to talk to his manager), he came back to said that they did 'the upgrade'. I immediately knew we were in trouble, but I didn't knew what it was exactly. When we finally got up in our room, we realized that everything was shaking - we were just below their night club, that was on the last floor. We couldn't sleep that night, and the next one. In two days they moved us to the room that was originally booked, and we finally could get some sleep. Well, when I was buying the package, I checked that the other hotel has a very nice fitness club, and this one has a very tiny room (they use a regular room for their so-called fitness center) with 2 treadmills, 2 elipticals and a set of weights. That's it. Their pool was closed for maintenance, so we couldn't go to the pool either. I have only 2 words: never again."

"I enjoyed the hotel mostly, however when picking where we would stay on our NYC trip, I was very excited about rooftop bar. Sounded perfect place to relax and have a drink after a busy day in the city. Some to find out (not correctly depicted in website) that is is more of a club than a bar for hotel guests! Yes we can go straight up by showing our hotel key, but the line of 'kids' to get in is not the kind of crowd I would like to hang with trying to have a relaxing cocktail!! One night before we headed upstairs, we had drinks in the downstairs bar (just the 2 of us), and our cocktail waitress was horrible, the bartender did all the work, we had to ask him for drinks, he poured and all she did was deliver. And she added an 18% gratuity to our bill????? Did not deserve it at all~what gives is that normal practice in city bars???? Other than those two glitches, we enjoyed the room and the hotels location!! Not sure we would return though, maybe for 20 something guest who still like the club scene???"

"The hotel was great. Funky art deco with good music in the bar. We were upgraded to a king room (which was just as well as my 16 year old daughter complained about my snoring) the bed was really comfy. The room was bigger and more tasteful than I imagined from reading other reviews. It was just a block from Central Park an easy to walk to Times Square. The staff were lovely and it was perfectly clean. A slight smell of smoking in the lobby sometimes and no real view out of our window but I was really happy with my choice. Good value and really cool!!"

"Check in time was at 3:00. When we arrived back at the hotel at 3:45 pm, after leaving our luggage in the hotel at 11 am, the front desk person told us that the room was not ready. All of a sudden, another couple arrives at 4:00 and they get their room right away (same type of room). We had to wait 20 minutes at the front desk. The next morning, the front desk desk called my room at 6:00 am! by accident!!! they said. Only one bathrobe, no closet space"

"I really enjoyed my stay here, although I wish the pool area had been open while we were there. The hotel is in an excellent location- within walking distance of many attractions. The lobby area is very attractive and it was being used as a set for filming of 'Gossip Girls' the day we were leaving. The only negative things would be the shower with one glass partition and the stocked fridge. Would have preferred fridge to be empty as 'Whole Foods' and 'Trader Joe's' were close by to stock up on drinks and snacks. Overall it was great and I will return when the pool is open."

"Location of hotel is fabulous! Easy to get taxis, subway and buses. Many different things within walking distance - central park, mid-town, lincoln center, great restaurants, drug store, etc. I can't say enough about the great location. Rooms are the typical 'small' NYC rooms. Beds were very good as well as sheets/linens. Bathroom was very small. Shower did not have a door. 1/2 was a clear partition. 1/2 was open - easy to flood bathroom if not careful. Room seemed a little damp, but we had weird weather which could have contributed. Room was very quiet, which contradicts some of the other reviews that I have read. Service was outstanding. Everyone friendly and very efficient - from front desk, to housekeeping, to doormen. No one was 'too busy' to help. Had to call housekeeping on two different occasions and they responded within 5-10 minutes. "

"The hotel is located next to Lincoln Center in a very good neighborhood. We felt safe coming in late at night after musicals and enjoyed the area and Central Park very much. Prices may be the norm for hotel bars in New York, but we found the bar area to be very overpriced. On a positive note, the concierge was very informative and helpful to us when asking about the subway system and which train to take where in Manhattan."

"This hotel is all about the location. Its across the street from Lincoln Center. It is perfect, especially in the winter. Its very nice to just walk across the street, take an elevator and you're 'home. With that in mind, this last visit of ours to the Empire was a bit of a disappointment. We expect smallish rooms there, so that was not the problem. Our room had no heat in the late afternoon when we checked in. It did have bathrobes, however no washcloths or hand towels in the bathroom either. We complained about the lack of heat, and they changed our room immediately. We did have heat in the next room, however, no bathrobes! Also, one glass was not sufficient for the both of us. No ice bucket either. Disappointing. Its, clean and the folks are nice, but really, come on.....you can do better Empire Hotel!"

"When we got to the hotel it was late, we were shown our room, to say we were dissapointed would be an understatement, the room was very small you could not swing a cat in it, we went down to the reception to ask if we could change our room and were told to upgrade would cost $100 per night plus tax which we were not prepared to pay, we asked if there was another room available without upgrading which we were shown, it was a little better so we took that, the receptionist was very helpful, this hotel is not a 4 star hotel,"

However, the open shower door concept was a bit strange and impractical, but the room was still well kept. The service your staff provided more than made up for short comings in the room. They were kind, efficient and friendly. I have to say though, one of the main reasons that i would come back was because of one of your doormen. He recommended great places to visit and went out of his way to help."

"the experience at the Empire Hotel was wonderful and the decor in the lobby was beautiful.

"I was anger on one occassion, I ask for a shower cap and I never recieved and the lady was very rude and unprofessional that my only complaint! Also it was no sliding door on the shower so the floor and my clothes was always wet. Room is too small. But the male staff was excellent, manager, door man and hotel was excellent."

"Very friendly staff, beautiful hotel with fantastic location! Great view, expensive but yummy drinks at bar, Ed's Chowder House is delicious (try the tuna sliders, I'm still craving them). Hotel was well worth the price. We had a corner suite which was really nice on the top floor. Could faintly hear nightclub from bathroom, which didn't bother us because bedroom suite was away from there, but other guests had a bad experience/sleepless night because of it.
Downside: Sewer gas smell from bathroom (we just closed the door), TV reception fuzzy at times, shower sprayed onto floor. Internet access only in Lobby unless you want to pay. Starbucks next door has a stronger signal and we could pick it up on the room. Lobby very cozy to sit in and have coffee or a drink while surfing internet.
None of the 'downsides' bothered us, but felt it fair to mention if you are super picky about your room."

"This was a great hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was cozy and extremely quiet. We never heard a peep from anywhere else (it was at the end of a hallway too). Great location to walk out and be right near Central Park and lots of restaurants and shopping. Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts nearby. Easy to get into and out of the city quickly in your car too. Great hotel!"

"What a pleasant surprise! While I knew the hotel rooms in NY were small, the room was still very nice. For a first time visitor to NY, I could not have asked for a better location. Very close to Central Park, Lincoln Center and some great neighborhood restaurants and shopping. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The rooftop was awesome! I will stay here again in August and highly recommend this hotel to anyone new to the city looking for a nice hotel in a great location."
