We went to Lincoln Center 3x during our stay which is right across the street. This convenience made up for the somewhat tiny room and stuffy air circulation. In addition, while WiFi is free (and slow) in the lobby, you have to pay for WiFi in your room.

Great service and short term stay, excellent location and view! Very helpful at the reception desk too! I would definitely recommend also the lobby bar if you want a good cocktail and a nice chilled atmosphere! There's also plenty of stuff to do next to the hotel within walking distance!

Do not take the room over the loading dock. Unless you wish to be kept awake all night by garbage and laundry pick up and deliveries. Aside from that there is a good and also a good+restaurant on either side of the property. And the bar is excellent.

Stayed here last week for a Wedding in NYC. We arrived on Monday afternoon to the nice surprise that we had all been upgraded! Complimentary Wi-fi served us really well as we were constantly on Google looking where we were going the next day! The hotel is within walking distance of most places (but do take good comfortable shoes!) and also next to the Lincoln Centre Subway stop so everywhere is reachable! The rooms were a good size and nice and clean! All the staff were really friendly and there... Read more

This hotel could and should be very good. It has loads going for it : prime location, good looking building, cool lobby, very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable beds, decent sized rooms for NYC. However, the rooms and corridors are in need of attention. Don't get a back room on the lower levels (like I did, before I asked to be moved), noisy outside with the hotels air conditioning units, a poor nights sleep guaranteed. But, it's the little things that stick. Quite trivial things really, bu... Read more

First time in New York and we found The Empire to be ideally situated to allow us to explore. Just a leisurely stroll away from Times Square and right next to the Lincoln Centre and Central Park. The room was compact but clean. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and did all they could,to assist us if we had a question or needed advice. My only small complaint is that they do not offer free wifi in your room. It is however, available in reception. We intend to return New Yor... Read more

Can I start by expressing my sincere thanks to employee David at the check-in and check-out desk. He was very calm, respectful and helpful. I had a terribly busy schedule during my stay, and he made sure I was informed about all my options before checking out. The location, the lobby (which is rather small but pretty impressive), the room: Empire has all these things going for it, but in the end what matters most to me on a professionally oriented trip to NYC like this is the commitment and dedi... Staff is too cool and faux hip to exercise humanity or compassion. If you are staying here because it's close to Mt Sinai forget it. No food service after 10 pm and when I explained I had just spent 17 hours at the hospital and asked if someone could just bring up a bowl of soup from the dining room, I got a cold "Sorry we can't it's policy" speech.

Empire hotel has a very good situation, close to Central Park and Columbus Circle. You can go walking to main places in New York like Times Square, MOMA or Metropolitan. We were one week and we were very comfortable. We had the subway very close, and directly connected with downtown Manhattan. The worse of our visit is WIFI system, it doesn't work very well and you must pay for it in your rooms.

I've stayed at the Empire Hotel twice now. The first time I stayed here was May 2014. We went back to NYC in February 2016 and decided to stay at the same hotel again mainly due to the location. When you're getting around NYC mainly by subway (which is how we opt to travel) there are a few stations which are preferable to others as they have more lines/services than others. Columbus Circle is one of these stations so the short walk from the hotel to the station is ideal. I also think it's a... Read more

I thought it would be really nice and posh as depicted on the show but yeah they needed to step their game up. We stayed here 3 times this summer while our daughter was at the School of American Ballet, and it was convenient, clean, and peaceful all three time. The bellstaff and valets are super. The only complaint is that they don't have ice machines on each floor, so we had to continue to call for ice to be delivered the room to keep milk cold in a cooler. We also took our own K-Cups for use in the coffee machines in the room, rather than pay the... Read more

The main reason I booked this hotel was for the rooftop. After three trips to the front desk with the same story about the room not being ready I was given a room with a view of the building next door at 4pm. The Empire hotel is a very trendy hotel in a not so trendy area of New York. I must confess I love upper West which is still gritty, next to Central Park or the Lincoln Centre. The Empire Hotel has a great location but is really famous for its designed lobby and roof terrace with swimming pool. I have been there twice, my first visit I was in a great room for New York, the second time I got a really great deal and got what I paid for..a bed with four walls around it.

The room had a very small closet, which was no big deal - but if I needed to hang clothes I was out of luck as the bar was extremely high and I could not reach it- I am five feet tall. My disappoint in the hotel is the following- I... Read more

Who wants to walk out of their hotel into the chaos of midtown Manhattan! You can stay at The Empire Hotel in the Upper West Side and walk out into a calm and for, NYC laid back atmosphere. It's the coolest boutique hotel, uniquely decorated, giving off a hip vibe, with a swank bar and gathering place right in the lobby! It has The Chowder House restaurant and many others nearby and a great roof top bar for a nightcap, after the evenings entertainment. it's steps from Central Park South, Colu... Read more

Decent hotel at a decent price. Hotel is in decent shape, but some chipping paint and cracks in the washroom could use some TLC. Front desk lady could learn a lesson in customer service, but the bellman(s) made up for her lack of courtesy. They were wonderful and helpful. Hotel is in a wonderful location and about a 20 block walk to Time Square. Would stay here again and do recommend it.

Placed at THE crossroads on the UWS, the Empire Hotel is the place to stay when you want to be in the middle of it all. Great location, great rooms, great staff and great architecture to make sure your New York stay in the UWS rocks.

This hotel was so disappointing. It looks like the hotel hasn't been redecorated or updated in any way for decades. The wall paper in the hall looks like something from a Willy Wonka movie and the paper in the room is dizzying. The rooms are tiny. The bathrooms ridiculously small. The shower has this weird panel on the wall and only a half door. The walls and the back of the door of the bathroom, which is smoked glass, were dirty and peeling. The whole bathroom felt dirty. The faucet was... Read more

If your room number is between 01 and 10 go and find another room or another place to sleep. The worst thing is the sound of the ventilation system of the building(?). There is no isolation at the windows and you feel yourself like you are still in the airplane. I was there because of the NY Marathon and really had some difficulties to sleep. The good thing is the location. Location is awesome, especially if you finish the marathon at the central park

The room had major issues which were immediately taken care of when identified but they should never had occurred. The location was convenient and the staff was excellent. It is New York and rooms are generally small but this room was too small for two people. It would have been a great single room.

The Empire Hotel was really a very pleasant surprise. The lobby is very stylish and, judging by the Saturday night I was there, a good place to meet people for drinks and snacks. I didn't eat at any of the restaurants or order room service, and the room itself was small but very, very nicely done. The bed was very comfortable, plenty of towels, nice toiletries etc. The movies were a little expensive to rent ($19 for a movie that was still in theaters, so it would have been cheaper to go to the a... Empire's employees were great especially Maria (front desk) she is Awesome, if you need anything go see her, she will definitely take care of you. The location is great especially with New York traffic, walking distance is not a problem. The room that I received was very spacious, clean and quiet. I highly recommend this hotel when you visit New York.

Met up with a couple of friends in the bar here when I was last in New York. We swung by the Lobby Bar and it was a really great place to spend a few hours before heading out into the night. Staff were really friendly (we were all Brits which probably helped). Didn't catch their names, but from reading the reviews I assume it was Mor who was looking after us at the bar. She was great, friendly, and didn't ask us to speak in cockney. Would definitely come again, next time to stay there

A standard room was discounted on the company site and rightly so. Very small room, cramped bathroom. Poorly maintained: sticking bathroom and closet doors, dripping shower head. I was very impressed with my stay at the empire hotel while in town for business. The staff was very friendly, making checking in and out seamless. The room was very clean and the bathroom was nice a modern. You can't do much better with their location - near great restaurants and Lincoln Center. And bars within the hotel all make great cocktails - something rather necessary after a long day at the office whilst traveling for work. I highly recommend.

Great location, friendly staff and rooms offer good value. They are adequate but who spends that much time in your room when visiting The Big Apple. Stayed at end of November for two nights. Great location and great beds. Room was tiny and bathroom even smaller, very European in setup. But the tipping point is the high cost. We payed about $900 for the two nights, which is too much for this tiny room. Maybe we did not shop well for this room, but I believe I stayed at the Plaza once for less. Very simply, it is very expensive for what is given in return.
