We went to Lincoln Center 3x during our stay which is right across the street. This convenience made up for the somewhat tiny room and stuffy air circulation. In addition, while WiFi is free (and slow) in the lobby, you have to pay for WiFi in your room.

Great service and short term stay, excellent location and view! Very helpful at the reception desk too! I would definitely recommend also the lobby bar if you want a good cocktail and a nice chilled atmosphere! There's also plenty of stuff to do next to the hotel within walking distance!

Do not take the room over the loading dock. Unless you wish to be kept awake all night by garbage and laundry pick up and deliveries. Aside from that there is a good and also a good+restaurant on either side of the property. And the bar is excellent.

Stayed here last week for a Wedding in NYC. We arrived on Monday afternoon to the nice surprise that we had all been upgraded! Complimentary Wi-fi served us really well as we were constantly on Google looking where we were going the next day! The hotel is within walking distance of most places (but do take good comfortable shoes!) and also next to the Lincoln Centre Subway stop so everywhere is reachable! The rooms were a good size and nice and clean! All the staff were really friendly and there... Read more

This hotel could and should be very good. It has loads going for it : prime location, good looking building, cool lobby, very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable beds, decent sized rooms for NYC. However, the rooms and corridors are in need of attention. Don't get a back room on the lower levels (like I did, before I asked to be moved), noisy outside with the hotels air conditioning units, a poor nights sleep guaranteed. But, it's the little things that stick. Quite trivial things really, bu... Read more

First time in New York and we found The Empire to be ideally situated to allow us to explore. Just a leisurely stroll away from Times Square and right next to the Lincoln Centre and Central Park. The room was compact but clean. All the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and did all they could,to assist us if we had a question or needed advice. My only small complaint is that they do not offer free wifi in your room. It is however, available in reception. We intend to return New Yor... Read more

Can I start by expressing my sincere thanks to employee David at the check-in and check-out desk. He was very calm, respectful and helpful. I had a terribly busy schedule during my stay, and he made sure I was informed about all my options before checking out. The location, the lobby (which is rather small but pretty impressive), the room: Empire has all these things going for it, but in the end what matters most to me on a professionally oriented trip to NYC like this is the commitment and dedi... Staff is too cool and faux hip to exercise humanity or compassion. If you are staying here because it's close to Mt Sinai forget it. No food service after 10 pm and when I explained I had just spent 17 hours at the hospital and asked if someone could just bring up a bowl of soup from the dining room, I got a cold "Sorry we can't it's policy" speech.

Empire hotel has a very good situation, close to Central Park and Columbus Circle. You can go walking to main places in New York like Times Square, MOMA or Metropolitan. We were one week and we were very comfortable. We had the subway very close, and directly connected with downtown Manhattan. The worse of our visit is WIFI system, it doesn't work very well and you must pay for it in your rooms.

I've stayed at the Empire Hotel twice now. The first time I stayed here was May 2014. We went back to NYC in February 2016 and decided to stay at the same hotel again mainly due to the location. When you're getting around NYC mainly by subway (which is how we opt to travel) there are a few stations which are preferable to others as they have more lines/services than others. Columbus Circle is one of these stations so the short walk from the hotel to the station is ideal. I also think it's a... Read more

I thought it would be really nice and posh as depicted on the show but yeah they needed to step their game up. We stayed here 3 times this summer while our daughter was at the School of American Ballet, and it was convenient, clean, and peaceful all three time. The bellstaff and valets are super. The only complaint is that they don't have ice machines on each floor, so we had to continue to call for ice to be delivered the room to keep milk cold in a cooler. We also took our own K-Cups for use in the coffee machines in the room, rather than pay the... Read more

Principle spaces a bit tired and elevators were in need of a good once over. Our room's decor was unattractive and even though it had just been turned over and was clean did not give the impression of being clean due to the musty smell and shop worn condition of furniture. Courteous staff at front check in desk. The lobby bar was fine, staff were attentive, we did not check out the mezzanine restaurant or lobby bar Originally booked for 3 nights checked out after one, the Empire's best asset is ... Read more

I asked for an early check in and a room with a view prior to my arrival. At 1:30 I was told my room was not ready and had to go to the pool bar because the rooftop bar was closed. The main reason I booked this hotel was for the rooftop. After three trips to the front desk with the same story about the room not being ready I was given a room with a view of the building next door at 4pm. I stay in New York several times a year and this by far was my worst experience. This hotel was not cheap ... Read more

This hotel has small but adequate rooms that are appropriately priced. We were pleasantly surprised by the friendly, efficient and helpful staff. The locaion is great especially if your plans inlcude the Lincoln Center and many museums.

The location of the Empire Hotel is great!! The people how work in it are allmost friendly and helpful. You can see, that the hotel isn't the youngest, but thats ok. I think we would be back in a future trip to NY. Thank you very much.

Nice hotel, good location easy for subway and easy to walk to time square, directly opposite Central Park. Don't be fooled by photo of pool on the website it is really just a plunge pool and rather cold, but the pool deck is lovely

When we arrived from the hotel we were greeted with a friendly manner and welcomed to the hotel. We checked in and the staff behind the reception were very helpful. The rooms are lovely and with great views (we had a view of the Lincoln centre) very clean and modern hotel. It's about 1-2 minutes from Central Park and 5-10 minute walk to time square so it's in a great location. Far enough from the hustle and bustle but close enough to get to it. There is a tube station at the Lincoln centre so yo... Read more

The staff is very helpful, and the room is a pretty decent size. I love that this hotel is away from the crazyness but still surrounded by great shops and restaurants! We walked to Times Square and it wasn't too bad of a walk when your taking in the city.

The day we checked in the one of our party put a bottle of water on the reception counter whilst getting out her passport. The girl behind the counter waved her hand in a gesture to remove the bottle.. no words spoken just a swiping hand gesture. I found this extremely rude. The same girl was totally unapproachable during our stay to a point where if she was on reception we would avoid going until someone else was there. I have to point our here that the majority of reception staff were very... Read more

Me and my boyfriend stayed here at the end of July for 4 nights as part of a bigger holiday in the US. We found the hotel nice with clean well furnished rooms and enjoyed our stay. We were asked to move rooms half way through our break due to maintenance and the manager dealt with this himself, he was more than helpful, courteous and polite, also giving us a room upgrade. The hotel is in an okay location, good for Central Park, however, its a bit of a walk to Times Square etc. Despite us largely... Read more

Impressve looking hotel but a number of frustrations. Rooms were on the small side which would not be such an issue if they were not stuffed with overpriced merchandise to purchase! This left very little surface space. No free tea and coffee and chargable wifi! Totally unacceptable at this price point. Would not stay again.

I stayed here with my kids for a week , what a great time we had. The staff were very helpful and friendly and even helped us out when my sons luggage lock couldn't be opened. We loved the rooftop pool ! Bedrooms were very clean and was cleaned everyday ! Snacks were over priced in the room but you don't have to eat them! Just bring in your own, problem solved. Also thank good for the air con, was a godsend! Our first holiday in America was made even better by staying at the Empire. Would defin... Read more

The Empire hotel is a very trendy hotel in a not so trendy area of New York. I must confess I love upper West which is still gritty, next to Central Park or the Lincoln Centre. The Empire Hotel has a great location but is really famous for its designed lobby and roof terrace with swimming pool. I have been there twice, my first visit I was in a great room for New York, the second time I got a really great deal and got what I paid for..a bed with four walls around it.

The hotel is well situated for Central Park, most of the key sites and has good public transport links . Stayed 5 nights here and although the air-conditioning was noisy it was great to have it and escape the 95 degree F heat. The Pool deck is a great addition and means you can even obtain a sun-tan in the city!

My daughter and I had a ball last year and brought another family member along this year. The corner suite is such a change from most NYC rooms we've shared. It is fun having a spot to drink and snack between planned activities. Such a breath of fresh air compared to congested Times Square area. We may return again next year for our annual trip!

I was there for a business trip . The location was great as it is close to a lot of places of interest. But I found my room to be generally dirty as the walls had stains , curtains and Windows were dirty as well as dusty vents . I expected the rooms to be up to the standards featured on their website but it was nothing like it! I will not recommend it unless you don't mind paying for an expensive hotel but feeling like you are in a motel on the road!

Used the hotel tonight app to get a last minute room at the empire hotel. The location is nice and our room on the 7th floor was much quieter than I expected. The window faced another building and not the street - which helped. Travelers should be aware that the room was tiny. While the decor was nice, it was hard to even go into the bathroom the space was so tight. Our room also had no closet - just a tiny alcove with a curtain. There is a charge for the coffee and tea for the keurig - whi... Read more

Upon checking at midnight, having just got off a delayed internal from San Francisco, I was glad to see that there was no queue at reception. However, I was ignored by the reception staff and made to wait for a non-vital radio check to be completed. Once I had been shown my room I was very disappoonted to find that a bottle of Evian cost $8 and that the in room coffee machine cost $3 a cup! They also charge for the Wifi! The bathroom had loose plug points and loose fittings. To top this off th... Read more

I'm writing the review as I am sweating in my hotel room after a sweltering, largely sleepless night. When I checked in, my room was unbearably hot. When engineering couldn't fix the ancient AC unit, they "upgraded" me to a suite on a different floor - where there are two ancient and nearly as useless AC units. Yes, NYC is in the midst of a heat wave, but no, a hotel that bills itself as a 4-star property, with chic decor and a hip lobby, shouldn't feel like an old college dorm during s... Read more

Yes, the bathroom is tiny (but stylishly updated) and our room was charming, newly painted and decorated, and just right for a stay with our granddaughters in NYC. They were thrilled with the "New York" feel of the lobby and our room. We all liked the Upper Westside location---a nice respite---but just a quick subway ride away---from the hot bustle of mid and downtown. Great for access to Lincoln Center, the American Museum of Natural History, Central Park and The Met. The pool was perfect fo... Read more

Really lovely service the two double bed junior suite was great for my kids and I . We asked for a room with a view and Gabriel moved us for our last night- just because the room was available! The only bad thing about the junior suite was a lack of a view, but at under 200 a night it was hard to complain. The rooms seem newly updated with luscious bedding and towels. Great rooftop patio, the pool is tiny but it was still cool. If I wanted to stay in downtown NYC again I would not hesitate to... Read more

Pascuale was wonderful! We had to wait until 3:30 PM for our room and he rewarded us with a nice suite. He also patiently helped us with the nuanced wifi for each area of the hotel. The Empire is a great location -- just blocks from the park where you can experience the best of nature along side the thrills of New York City. Our unrushed breakfast on the mezzanine was good, too.

We stayed 4 nights at Empire Hotel at end July. Initial expectations were good when we arrived in the lobby, it's nicely decorated and has has a lux feel. However, the rooms don't live up to this. Ours was on the 1st floor so barely slept through the noise outside. There's no double glazing. The decor was tatty and felt old. There is nowhere to put bags so with 4 people and luggage it was chaos. We chose this hotel because of the pool, however if rain is forecast it closes.....we didn't get to u... Read more
