A time-warp from the 1940s. Surgically clean and an amazing place. Room 9 has two rooms, a Queen bed and a Double bed in it's own room. Fantastic! The icing on this cake is that the motel is less-than 100 feet away from the restaurant, The Pantry, which was voted the #1 restaurant in all of Santa Fe in 2015! The El Rey Inn deserves a seven-star rating!!!

We have stayed many times at El Rey over the years we have been visiting Santa Fe. We have found it to be well maintained and comfortable. When my daughter married at Golondrinas, we and the wedding party stayed here. We were satisfied with the hotel, and it is a little away from the busyness and traffic of Santa Fe, but getting to the sights and restaurants is easy. Breakfast was very nice. Can't answer the "when" except to say it was late September of 2007. I am sure we will all stay there aga... Read more

Any room in this well-cared-for, older Inn is wonderful in its own way. We stayed in the inexpensive ($83/night) part of the Inn, right around the corner from the outdoor spa. The bathroom was tiled in a gorgeous blue color. There was a mini frige. The grounds were lovely with lots of places to sit and listen to the house finches, robins, Mourning Doves and Great Tailed Grackles during their mating rituals. Just down from our room and across the parking lot is the gorgeous junior Olympic swimmin... Read more

We have stayed here every time we visit Santa Fe which is only a 3 hour drive from Amarillo. It's quite even though it's on probably the busiest street (Cerrillos) in town. We always stay in the same room so I can't speak about a majority of rooms. It's quaint but always clean and pleasant. That's why we enjoy staying there. There is a large outdoor pool and 2 hot tubs. The El Rey is quiet, relaxing, an oasis in the middle of a busy city. Would definitely stay here again. We wanted to stay away from the old historic downtown tourist area of Santa Fe. This was a short drive, yet far enough away to work well for us. The grounds are well-kept, and we enjoyed evening strolls on the property. Loved the inclusion of coupons for The Pantry for breakfast! Yum! The front desk staff was very helpful. We needed A/C help and they sent someone within 3 minutes to solve t... Read more

What a lovely place this is to stay! On our Route 66 trip we found this online half an hour before hand. Totally charming with beautiful gardens. Easy check in and parking outside our room. The room was clean and comfortable and the spa area was lovely. I'm sure in the evenings with the log fire burning it would be even nicer. We were close by to lots of places to eat ( we chose Bumble Bees Baja Grill) and although breakfast is normally included it wasn't during our stay. Instead we were given a... Read more

It was really difficult to choose a hotel in Santa Fe because there are so many options. Great spa hotels. Historic hotels. Boutique hotels. We chose El Rey because it had the old school feeling of a motel, but was quaint with pretty grounds. Overall, it was a good stay, but it wasn't quite as charming as had hoped. The location was a bit further away from the Plaza than I thought, but perhaps I should have done more research. The room was ok, but some of the lights were broken and the tv was r... Read more

We have stayed in several of the rooms each with its unique character. We particularly like the patio rooms facing garden and pool, but every room has been a treat. Such a nice change of pace from all those resort-type places that Santa Fe has so many of. it's just a fantastic place to stay and to meet regular customers who have been coming back for years and years. The beautiful fountains and gardens make it a paradise for birds, which make it even more of a paradise for humans. We left yesterday after a week-long stay. We're already homesick. Have stayed here several times love the outdoor hot tub. We have stayed in a suite but the smaller rooms by the hot tub work just fine and we save money. This year they were remodeling and the free breakfast was a voucher for a restaurant next door but that food was great see review for the Pantry. Ask for a courtyard room in the 71-79 for value and nice surroundings it is farther from the outdoor pool but nice and quiet

We stayed in one of the oldest rooms. It was very clean but the furniture was old and too big for the small room. The bedding included an old style bedspread, off white sheets & a blanket. I would prefer all white bedding like many other hotels use. The older TV was in a large entertainment center much too bulky for the room. The cute outdoor areas were nice but, the room we had wasn't worth the price we paid....and we had a discount.

I chose this hotel based on the reviews. The Inn has the charm of a vintage Route 66 motel. However, there are many updates needed to bring it up to today's hotel standards. The 5 acre grounds help to drown out the busy Cerrillos Rd. traffic and fountains and birds make it a pleasant environment. The hotel was just sold to an investment group so it will most likely undergo some needed changes. They are planning to open a restaurant and bar and the application for the liquor license is posted. ... Read more

But the pool was nice and the grounds such an oasis on Cerrillos Rd, I'm tempted to give it a higher score. Perhaps room 49 is not kept up as nicely as the others? The bathroom was tiny and the AC unit loud and almost ineffective. Thank goodness for the ceiling fan, although it didn't cool the left side of the king size bed, being so far away from the fan. I wish we could have opened windows to catch the evening breezes and hear the wonderful birds, but they did not open.

It is not "downtown" which is one thing we love about it. You get breakfast as part of your stay. There is a pool, exercise room, spa and laundry facilities. The rooms are large and remind me of a 1950's roadside inn. Try it! It is not the most expensive nor is it the cheapest. I was very impressed with the reception area and the gardens in this place. Very charming with a lot of character. The room not so much. Very small with a lot of potential with the adobe walls and beams in the ceiling. However the furnishings and bed spread and pillows on the bead look very old and drab. The bathroom great. Also the staff very nice. I just have mixed emotions about this place.

We spent 2 nights at the El Rey a couple of weeks ago and we were very pleased with the stay. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are nice and clean. My only complaint is that our room was not cleaned the second day we were there. We could have called. I never found out if there was a problem. It was not that big of a deal as our stay there was so pleasant. LOVED the beautiful courtyard; the grounds were breathtaking!!

Lots of pros and cons. It is an older place with charm and history. Travelers looking for the usual modern franchise hotel might be disappointed here. It is not on the Plaza but a few miles south on Cerrillos Road which unfortunately is also the busiest and noisiest. The rooms are on the small side with simple amenities and a bit dark. However they are clean. The old windows and doors let in non stop road noise right up to dawn when you will be awaken by your fellow travelers who forgot the car ... Read more

Love, love, love El Rey Inn. I stayed two weekends in a row recently. The first one with my husband, he and I really enjoyed sitting on the settee in front of our room and enjoying a glass of wine. The next weekend I was there two nights with my oldest son. We felt everything was 'just right', from our spacious room to the wonderful breakfast at The Pantry to the gorgeous grounds. I will return again as soon as possible.

Have always wanted to stay here. Not disappointed. Gardens beautiful. Room clean and nice with old Santa Fe decor. Beds comfy. Love older bathroom touches. Towels big and fluffy. Did not get to enjoy play ground, garden or pool/sauna due to late arrival but still was a gem after getting ready to move all day.
