From start to finish I was extremely disappointed with this hotel. The only thing they have going for them is the location which I'll admit is amazing. There is also very little competition. The off season price seemed high to me & I travel pretty frequently. The room was 2 beds with a pull out sleeper sofa and was fairly large but everything was dirty & falling apart. It seems like they upgraded half of the room & the other half hadn't been touched since the 70s. There were water stains on the ... Read more

Was there for a wedding. Centrally located and great access to the beach and boardwalk. The downsides were having to pay for the internet and parking was very tight - they have a small lot and even street parking can fill up. The rooms were nice and the shower / bed were comfortable and modern. Need to plan a bit, but a nice place to see the rebirth of Asbury Park.

Hotel was nice - clean, and the staff was nice. But you have to park your car either about 2 blocks away on an unsecured side street(s) or else pay a meter EVERY HOUR until midnight. There is NO valet available for overnight guests! Everyone was complaining. It was raining and guests had to drive blocks away to park their car -as of course, paying an hourly meter is just not an option when you are attending (or in), a wedding! They really need to resolve this. I suggested to management hiring o... Read more

Great location and the rooms were very spacious, but they don't have parking for residents. When we got there, they only had valet parking for the wedding, but those staying in the hotel all had to find their own parking after midnight. Also--I used the hotel website to book. It took me to a third party bookings.com, then registered my two rooms that I asked to be adjoining as separate and unrelated rooms. This caused problems upon check in. Then the girl at the desk did not know how to sea... Read more

The sheets had blood stains, didn't even have a fitted sheet on bed! You have to pay $10 a day to park at the hotel, they charge you for wifi. For $200 a night this is very disappointing, don't waste your money. There's a very cute b&b style hotel about a block a way for this sorry excuse, that would 100 times better.

The hotel itself was ok but you get more for your money at a red roof in for $98 a night, like free parking, free wifi, free breakfast, a coffee maker and a fridge in the room! The room was pleasant, comfortable and clean but lacked amenities. An extra mirror in the room would have been great as only being able to do hair and make up in the bathroom is a pain when there are 4 of you in the room. Also we had a sea view and opened the window so we could hear the ocean but the window (which was the... Read more

I had an excellent time at the Berkeley Hotel. The staff was wonderful especially my new favorite front desk girl, Kay! She answered all my questions intelligently, she knows her job. She was sweet, polite and just a joy. The entire staff at the hotel were extremely nice, friendly, always a smile and polite. There was never a wait for anything. The hotel and room were clean and beautiful. My ocean front was amazing! It was quiet when needed. I would recommend this hotel to anytone.

The rooms are big and this place has such potential. Unfortunately it is in need of some tlc. We had to ask three times for linens for the couch bed. This hotel DOES have the potential to be good. Their staff for most part is friendly and helpful. But how the hotel is run and operated needs a lot of work. (1) Booked a Deluxe King Ocean View room two months in advance. But when we arrived to check in, we were told the room wasn't available and were given a Standard King Ocean View room instead. And when checking out, we noticed they were trying to charge us for the Deluxe room. After pointing it out, we got it fixed But things like this ... Read more

First off, the Berkeley is fine. Its adequate. Its okay. The staff was helpful, the rooms were clean and it has a great location. Exceptional customer service from every hotel staff member regardless of role (the gift shop is separate) beautiful location, ironically good value considering my last minute arrangements. I've been to the Berkeley quite a few times, and the location is great, but considering the lack of amenities, it doesn't deliver. I can't believe we had to pay for parking! We got the nicest room in the hotel, and there was no fridge or even a coffee pot! And we were only given 2 towels. I will be looking to stay at one of the newer places with more to offer next time

Went a Tuesday to Thursday and was disappointed that the restaurant and tiki bar are only open on the weekend. The hotel was nice and we had a beautiful ocean view. Wish they had a fridge in the room. Less than 5 minute walk to beach and Boardwalk which was great with kids. Pool area was great with plenty of chairs, 4 cabanas for shade and towels provided. You have to pay for parking, beach passes and wifi wish stinks.

The location of the hotel is amazing and it's a beautiful property. It feels very posh and luxurious. There are little things though, that take away from the experience: $25/day to park your own car in the hotel lot, $3.99 for a small bottle of water in the room, no extra outlets to plug in your phone, lumpy uncomfortable beds, barking dogs in the hallway at night (hotel is pet friendly), no restaurant on premises...it all matters in the eye of the guest. Back a 2nd time and will return again. For what we needed it fits the bill. Location is great, beach access is great. Will be back again as this was our 2nd visit to the area. Minor things like soap was so small it fell down the drain and no where to hang your towels if needed again - but you find ways to work around these items. For the money it is a good deal.

After reading reviews, I had pretty low expectations for this hotel. With the GM commenting on these posts I had hoped more issues would have been addressed. But he is placating his potential guests and I am inclined to think this hotel will remain sub par. Pros: Theo is a wonderful Bellman, proximity to the ocean is great & maintenance comes very quickly when called. Cons: The pool needs a new liner & chairs are extremely uncomfortable. We thought we knew what to expect from other reviews and a good look at the hotel - it was as expected, if a little more so! The hotel is like a battleship that's run aground on the Jersey Shore - and fits in well to its immediate surroundings of the old Convention Hall and Paramount Theatre. It's décor once you get away from the main lobby is rather tired and old fashioned - paint mainly an "interesting" shade of green and slightly tatty. However, this does add to its undoubted charm. Everyone in the hotel was actually very friendly; it was great and a wonderful vibe. The rooms on the other hand need some cleaning up. Our bathroom door was broken and wouldn't close, the wall paper was coming off, and the fixer upper paint jobs were an eye sore. The wedding was very elegant, very opposite of the ro... Read more

My family and I just returned from a family wedding at the Berkeley Oceanfront. We had read some not so complementary reviews before we visited and had some concerns. However, the experience was, generally, a good one but some of the comments that we read in advance were justified. The staff was generally friendly and helpful. One employee, however, was great and deserves a special mention. His name is Theo and he works at the front door - as a greeter, bellman and overall good will ambass... Read more

poor housekeeping solution to wet carpet at room foyer/bathroom entry that leaked in from hallway where there had been some kind of major water leak - put down blankets to absorb. (Also, we later discovered made carpet in closet wet, affecting shoes!) By morning, blankets were soaked, carpet still wet, and it smelled! Went to front desk who asked us why they did not move us the night before -answer: not given the option! We were given another room, but not assisted with the move. Paid to self ... Read more

Great location, nice rooms but some attention to detail is in order. Got a suite for a weekend in Asbury Park. Reservation needed adjusting as the picture was of the room I requested but the description was of a double king room..not what I was seeking. Took a few emails and calls to sort this out ahead of my arrival. Once there very nice staff but a few room issues. No working drain stopper lever.. or even a plastic stopper when I wanted to use the jet tub. Heat was not functioning prope... Read more

This was a very poor experience. Bed was awful. Room hot - used air. Services were almost non existent. Very noisy on all floors. No restaurant open - I realize it is off season - but if you are hosting a wedding then services should be available The little stor in Lobby was a disgrace - dirty - Woman at register did not have change for a twenty!!

Not worth the money I pay for the night. Not happy with the Room! It was such an unpleasant stay. The room was very dirty and filthy. It looks like it was never clean, just the beds were made. The bathroom was very dirty. It needs a new bathroom tub. The remote for the tv didn't work and it was also dirty and sticky. I will not stay there again or recommend it.

Ok for the price but the condition of the room was poor. Dresser didn't stay closed and had leather handles instead of knobs that were ripped off. Leather chair worn. Table tops water damaged. Shabby.

Very accommodating and helpful. The front desk, our parking attendant, everyone was thoughtful and friendly. We got in an hour early in time to make our appointment, and we had a beautiful of Asbury Park and the beach! We were able to walk everywhere and even could watch the sun come up over the water from our room. Very comfortable.

The renovated rooms were great. Nice lobby to sit and talk. Helpful and warm staff, from check in to checkout. Even the valet. Theo Brown was a nice sendoff. Reminding us to take our cell phone chargers. Staff was great. I would come back.
