We stayed here one evening to attend a local event and visit the beach. The staff was great and the room was clean, but can only give an average rating as the bed was very uncomfortable and we were sore in the morning, bathroom is small, has no fan and not big enough to get dressed in. If you don't mind those inconveniences, the price was good and the location was easy to access.

We stayed two nights in King room through a great rate with Priceline. Very clean and comfortable bed. Bathroom extremely small. The bathroom vanity top strangely did not go wall to wall, so items could easily slip through small open space on each side. Also open closet for hanging items very tiny, though not a problem for us. Great location, 5 minutes to downtown Portsmouth. Could not beat the price and overall a good experience. Cookies in lobby a nice touch. Would stay here again.

I can honestly say that I enjoyed this place. The staff was very good. I think that was because the general manager was on site, but I'll take it. Lol it's a good clean room with a decent television. I think that the elevator was the slowest of all time. You won't find much more to complain about. was a great time and value. I would recommend that you stay, but bring your coupon and or book on price line for the best price. I only paid 75 dollars a night, but others told me that they pa... Read more

The room was ok- though the hotel definitley needs updating. The hallway smelled like air freshener, chemicals that give me a headache. The room was musty. Worst of all, they had Nestle bottled water in the room .This is the company that has been stealing millions of gallons of water from our National Forests. I believe no hotel should offer bottled water. Have a Holiday Inn Logo reusable water boatel available and one can fill it time and again.

When you apply your deodorant in the morning while still half asleep you will proceed to punch the low stucco ceiling in the bathroom over the sink. You will wince in pain and then proceed to do it again with your other hand. At breakfast all my colleagues had sore knuckles.

Overall, it's NOT a terrible place to stay but this hotel could use some updating. Location is pretty good. There is a really quick route to downtown which avoids any of the major expressways. As far as cleanliness is concerned, I've stayed at much cleaner hotels and I've stayed at worse. I stayed for one night and someone spilled some type of juice or something in the elevator which made the floor really sticky. It was like that for my whole stay. Kind of annoying. Felt like it could've been cl... Read more

Upon arriving we were greeted with a friendly staff and a plate of warm cookies. Plenty of luggage buggies. Room was spacious with a fridge and microwave. Bottled water was a nice touch. Bathroom was a bit small but clean with plenty of large towels and other linens. AC was on when we arrived and room was cool which made my husband happy. Hotel has a restaurant and lounge that we took advantage of a few nights. Taxi's are available to take you to the many lobsters houses around the area. We reco... Read more

We stayed in the suite as part of an awards gift. It was fabulously nice and very quiet. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Check in and out is very easy in keeping with IHG values. The room was clean and neat. Although it is surprising that such a nice room is not wheelchair accessible. We were surprised that the paid for stay does not include breakfast, rather it is a menu based meal paid extra. There are a few eateries close by. We were amused as we entered the room to first see a l... Read more

We recently stayed in Portsmouth at the Holiday Inn. It is an older facility that could you use some updating in the rooms and lobby. The front reception staff was very friendly and check in was very quick. The lounge is tucked away in the lower level and not easy to get to for drinks. It should be on the main level. Location is convenient by the main expressway.

Sorry, but while the hotel staff was very nice, this hotel was extremely overpriced for what it delivered. We would not stay here again, at least at the prices we paid, which was about double of what I would have expected. The hotel needs works and you can tell it's is starting to age. Which isn't an issue if maintenance is kept up, but you can tell it is starting to get away from them. That said the staff was friendly and always willing to help.

The Holiday Inn in Portsmouth, NH is an excellent example of the best of Holiday Inns. From check in ?? with fresh cookies in the lobby and the friendly staff greeting and thank you to Priority Club members (they know the importance of maintaining loyalty!) to comfortable, clean rooms ?? and, very important, clean bathrooms -- at a mid-price cost, we stay as often as possible at one. Each has a bit of a quirk: the Portsmouth one is the swimming pool, outside by the parking lot. It is covered ... Read more

Decided to stay here since I'm a HI member, and I figured I might as well get the points. Bad Move. Hotel is dated, rooms are musty, bed sheets where rough (from excessive wear and tear) and NO free breakfast!! Only 1 tiny elevator for 5 story building, made it almost impossible to utilize. Keep driving, you'll find better options.

As another reviewer stated, the Front Desk employees couldn't have been nicer, BUT THE HOTEL IS OLD, TIRED, IN A GENERAL STATE OF DISREPAIR, AND NOT PARTICULARLY CLEAN. To be specific: In my room there was an easy chair with ripped upholstery (the seat was actually shredded with stuffing popping out), the wall paper was peeling off the wall under the curtains, the carpet at the foot of the bed had a big brown sticky stain which had not been cleaned up, the bathroom shower curtain rod had broken ... We travel to Maine every year, flying into Boston for better flights and driving north. This is the second one stay we've booked as we love the location: far enough north from Boston and right across the bridge to Kittery Maine. I find great rates here at an easy on/off location form I-95. The hotel is clean and maintained. It has a covered pool outside adjacent to the parking lot if you are traveling with restless kids. It is also very close to downtown Portsmouth without a downtown price. I re... Read more

Elevator is probably biggest issue. 1 elevator. We ended up taking the stairs when we could because it was much faster. Young girl working the front desk during the day n Thursday July 21st was very nice and very helpful. Not so much the case for the other lady who was working the very early morning (around 5:30 am) on Thursday the 21st. Bathrooms are extremely small. Chair in the room was coming apart. Apparently, housekeeping does not check under or clean under the beds because the people... Read more

Our family of three stayed here for one night while on a driving trip. We generally prefer Holiday Inn Express over Holiday Inn on trips like these since breakfast is included, plus we just don't require conference rooms or other business related services. Our room was fine, although the bathroom was remarkably small. Breakfast was not included, so we ate at the hotel's restaurant for breakfast (just a bit expensive). The staff were pleasant but told us that they were understaffed. I'd run into... Read more

We had about 38 people stay here for my daughter's wedding and had all great reviews. I didn't hear anything negative from either of the families or friends. The staff was awesome and accommodating. We decided last minute to hold a departure breakfast for everyone. Jason, the manager pulled this together in a day and made it a great to end our festivities. I highly recommend this stay!!!

This Holiday Inn is a typically nice Holiday Inn. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The pub was cozy, comfortable and the food was good. Service was efficient even with only one waitress. Our room was very clean. One puzzling thing was an easy chair that was in disrepair. It had a faux leather seat which was torn in several places. This was so inconsistent with the rest of the room I can't understand why it would not be replaced.

I am a frequent traveler (mainly for business) and this is the worst Holiday Inn I've stayed in. The *only* one where breakfast wasn't included for a business traveler. Inexcusable. And when I brought my displeasure to the front desk upon discovery, I asked to speak with the GM about this policy. I never did hear from GM or any other manager. In addition, the bathroom in the room was tiny. Smallest I've ever seen. Parking here is very odd. The have room in front of hotel to add dozens of spaces... Read more

I'm a Spire Elite IHG member so when my family and I came to Portsmouth we stayed at this hotel. First, the staff at the desk and the maintenance people were friendly. The parking is convenient; right out front. There were always luggage carts available and we were provided with a crib upon asking. The beds were comfortable and the pillows were nice. I should also mention the hotel has excellent wifi: a big plus. Unfortunately the hotel has too many issues that need to be corrected in order to... Read more

We stayed at this property for two nights for a family reunion in Portsmouth. It was conveniently located by the highway, but also a quick drive or safe/easy bike ride to downtown Portsmouth. It is not a fancy place--quite basic per this chain--but on the whole the experience fine. We were there at the high season, and the prices here, while seemingly high for a Holiday Inn, a good $150 per night lower than those five minutes away in the heart of Portsmouth. The pros: nice staff, comfortable bed... Read more

Very disappointed with our stay this time, feel totally taken advantage of. After driving all day to take my daughter back to UNH, we arrived in Portsmouth around 8 in the evening. The room was clean but average, the bathroom minuscule. Room service added a 25% gratuity automatically after paying $200 USD/ night for the room. Total rip off Won't be back, cheaper to drive to Kittery or Ogundquit.

As usual, we stopped in on our way up to Desert Island, Maine. There are a few hotels right together but we like Holiday Inn and the service and friendly atmosphere. This time the bar was open (last year it was closed for renovations) and we had some nightcaps after walking into town for dinner. We spent a few days at this Holiday Inn. The room was clean and well maintained. It was convenient to all areas we had/ wanted to be. It was near the Portsmouth Traffic Cicle. Easy drive to downtown and up to Maine. The staff were very helpful. Sam (Samantha) was especially helpful to my husband with the multitude of questions and interests he had in the area. Her smile was contagious. It ws a good place to stay for a couple of days. A second elevator would be helpful.

The location of this hotel is great, however, there were several issues that needed to be addressed. The rooms were comfortable, although the bathrooms were extremely small. The shower curtain, when pulled across the tub, actually touched the toilet. The mattress pad, which was simply a felt-like sheet, did not fit the king sized bed so there were bunches under the sheet that were uncomfortable to sleep on--when we took the sheet off to straighten the pad, we found a stained mattress. Good points: staff were young and smart. Good location. Bad: The hotel: one slow elevator. The halls smelled of macaroni cheese. The room: where to start? The door lock was loose and rattled in its fitting. The door itself was old and worn and didn't close properly. The keycard unlocked the door only one in every three attempts. The carpet in the room was old and stained. There were pubes behind the bathroom door in a patch of dust. The hairdryer was dirty. The bathroom was tiny and had... Read more
