"'We just got home after spending 5 days at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas.
A few years back when we came to Las Vegas, we stayed on the Las Vegas Blvd. Strip. We visited Freemont Street on our last night. We really LOVED Freemont Street and were very disappointed that we didn't visit there sooner.
So while planning this trip we thought the Golden Nugget would be the best place to stay, after there's been over $200,000,000 remodeling updates and repairs made in the past few years... Okay, so was it or not? I'd have to say yes and no.
The hotel is beautiful inside & out. We opted for less expensive rooms since
we weren't planning on being in them all that much. We booked 2 rooms in the
Golden Nugget Carson Towers. Both rooms were nice & clean and the pillow-topped mattress was very comfortable. TV choices weren't all that great, but who goes to Las Vegas to watch TV anyway? I did read on the guide Pay-per-View movies were $11.99 taxes & fees and Adult movies priced $23.99 taxes & fees, although we didn't choose to order anything anyway!
A large bottle of Figi water was offered in our room for $7.00, as well as a 'Brew-1 cup-at-a-time' coffee pot with 1 box of (4) 1-cup pkgs. for $10.00! Complimentary items offered were: small bars of soap, small tubes of body lotion, small tubes of shampoo & hair conditioning milk. There was a hair dryer to use and an iron and ironing board were provided for our use as well. Of course there was also an ice bucket, 2 real glasses and 4 heavy duty paper coffee cups, tissues and toilet paper. 2 robes were there for our use during our stay and we could purchase new robes for $60.00 each (I think)if we wished.
Our air conditioner worked well, but my sister's room felt like it was straight fan all the time - the weather was warm, but thank goodness we weren't there when it was miserably hot... Ice was supposed to be free but the ice machine for our area was broken the whole time. We had to walk a little ways from our rooms to find another ice machine to use and it was tough to get much ice from
it since it was being used by so many more rooms than intended.
Thankfully we opted, in advance, to pay the $25 taxes & fees for each room
to receive the VIP services offered. It really cut down on time when checking in & especially when checking out! This service provided FREE individual bottles of water, apple juice, and fruit juice, individual pkgs. of Planter's peanuts, and a large bowl of M&M's w/little condiment cups to put spoonfuls of the sweet treats into. We were also given a coupon discount book for each room upon check-in, to use at various businesses located in the hotel.
Several employees throughout the hotel were helpful, always courteous, kind & respectful. The valet parking people were nice and had great sences of humor! Self parking was free to guests and much closer to our rooms, so we used it for the majority of our stay.
I've always believed that giving/leaving good tips for the staff that deserved them, was the main factor in receiving the best service, but that didn't prove
to be completely true for us, since there were also a few not-so-nice employees that we felt we tipped good, as well.
On our last day a water main broke & we were without water for quite some time, and then on top of that the power went out for several hours. Our rooms got warm so quickly that we left & went elsewhere to spend the day. We came back later on hoping to be able to shower and change to go to dinner first & the Gordie Brown show. We had planned to see Jubilee afterwards at 10:30 p.m. but the water was still off when we returned and we ran out of time to clean up while we waited to hear back from the front desk/manager to find out if & when the water would be back on or if there was anything else we could do such as change rooms. When we did finally hear back from the desk clerk, we were told that there were no other rooms available and she apologized, and we were given tickets to the Gordie Brown show, compliments of the Golden Nugget, a savings of about $50.00 for us, but we had to go without showering and we
had to skip dinner because we didn't have time to eat being it took so long to hear back from someone. We didn't get to go to the Jubilee show either. Our tickets for all 4 of us were $97.00 each! Nothing was ever offered to compinsate us for that loss!
We got really tired of being hounded by the timeshare people, but for the most part the majority of them were friendly and courteous, and a couple of them
gave us great directions and tips on things to do & see.
On the last morning as we were trying to get raedy to leave(wanting to shower, dress, finish packing, wanting to eat breakfast, etc.) an alarm went off and a loud message began telling everyone to vacate the hotel immediately - by stairs - DO NOT try to use the elevator... On our floor guests were so confused not knowing if this was for real or another breakdown of some sort. A man who worked for the hotel told some of us that it was a mistake & everything was
fine for us to return to our rooms. BUT NO other message was ever broadcast confirming what the man had said or even giving an All Clear! So again there
was mass confusion with some people choosing to vacate the hotel & some choosing to return to their rooms. We went back to our room because by this time it was close to 11 a.m. - check out time. We ended up having to travel home without being able to shower for the second day in a row! Thank goodness we had running water when we arrived back home!!!
We went to several of the bars and visited 2 of the in house restaurants, including the Buffet. Eating & drinking at the Golden Nugget was expensive but the food & drinks were good. The swimming pool(s) were wonderful! The 3 floor water slide that goes right through the middle of the shark tank is awesome! The huge Golden Nugget located in the hotel is really something to see. The casinos are a lot of fun. The slot machines are loud, colorful, and cover every amount from one penny to ??? & they do pay off for the folks who end up being lucky...
We loved, loved, loved being right on Freemont Street. The Binion Casino was fantastic and we were there everyday. we ate there and bought T-shirts & jackets at their 80% Off store! Live bands & light shows set to music, photo ops w/ look alike celebrities, and any kind of entertainment you could possibly want is any & everywhere you look, which is awesome in itself. There are so many souvenier shops and kiosks that line Freemont Street. Some have much better prices than others, so my advice is to check around before buying...
We found an outside bar that offered any kind of frozen drink you could want and the ones we tried were fabulous!
We went to the Mob Museum, which was a block or two away, and we went to Madaam Taussand's Wax Museum located in The Venetian on the main strip. Both museums were great fun! At The Venetian we found some fantastic things to do & see such as the Gondala ride and the remarkable ceilings located throughout. We found a few jewlery and clothing shops with excellent sales going on! And boy did we do some major shopping! We also found a great clothing store located close to WalMart on Tropicanna Blvd. called CitiTrends. Yes, we did more shopping! We did so much shopping we had to buy an extra suitcase to bring everything bac in!
Would we go back to Las Vegas? YES! Would we stay at the Golden Nugget again? I'm not sure we would. I'd be hopeful that we wouldn't have to deal with most of the same issues next time, but I'd be afraid to find out after the fact. I must admit that I'm really upset with myself and I regret not speaking directly to a manager regarding the many inconvieninces we experienced the last 2 days of vacation & then having to travel home, on 3 different flights without being able to clean up first, before we checked out but we were so unhappy by that point I was afraid I'd come off as being extremely rude. I should have requested &/or insisted on some type of compensation, ESPECIALLY SINCE NO ONE CONTACTED US AND OFFERED IT!

"Loved it here before but had real mixed experience. Was excellent or awful with nothing in between. The waiter in Chart House restaurant was the highlight of my trip. Great server and made me feel like I was his only customer; which wasn't th case. Staff rudeness was the other end of it. So I guess, who works for you really says something about a hotel. Prices for adult pool have double in less than 2 years with many seats not used because of it, then workers making side deals to make pool look full. Shark tank is cool. I think i'll try somewhere else my next trip down to Vegas this fall."

"Just loved this hotel and the Freemont experience. Visited with my daughter and son-in-law and they were quite impressed as well. They had always stayed on the strip and had never went downtown. It was a funfilled vacation. It's an ideal location for senior's that have a hard time walking the strip. We stayed six nights and the vacation ended much too soon. Looking forward to going back."

"This was the first time staying here and absolutely loved it. Normally, we stay on the strip and occasionally come to the Nugget to gamble and see Fremont Street. We had a room in the Rush Tower and were very impressed with the size and decor. The bed was super comfortable (and I have trouble sleeping in strange beds due to arthritis issues). We had a nice view. Did not do the buffet as the one time I had previously tried it, I got sick :( But Vic & Anthony's and the Chart House were awesome, if a little overpriced. Also enjoyed Lillie's. Service was very slow in the cafe. As someone else said, I did not like the wifi charge! Definitely staying here next time we come to Vegas :)"

"This is the nicest downtown hotel. Just had a 300 million renovation in the past 2 years and it is convenient. Less crowded than strip hotels and very nice for Freemont Street. The Gold Club level rooms were nice and upgraded with nice bathrooms and beds. The restaurants are all good (we ate at Vic & Anthony's (Steak & Seafood) and it was excellent but pricey. Grotto was good as well, order the pizza or the pasta dishes. We also ate at RED and the sushi was good. The breakfast was supposed to be included, but we only got free tickets for 2 days, so make sure when you reserve that you actually get free breakfast each morning at the buffet (average food), with the Gold Tower upgrade. Free wireless in rooms and free water were nice extras. Pool and shark tank/waterslide is real nice but smallish & very crowded so get there early and reserve your chair with a book. There are nice Blackjack tables outside by the pool where they train their newer dealers so great if you are a remedial Blackjack player like me, I won there. If you want to get away from all the kids and go adults only, there's a 2nd pool but the chairs are at a premuim ($20 per day and must rent in advance like a day or 2 ahead!) The casino is big and nice with lots of variety and Binions is right across the street. We found the tables pretty good (fewer autoshufflers more wins on their tables & slots than strip hotels.) The downside is that the casino is smoky and the location is far away from the strip and shows ($20 cab ride plus tip-or rent a car). Also a machine I was on started malfunctioning and they wouldn't refund my money when it took it, so be careful and don't play the slots after midnight!"

"Just got back from staying a week at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas.
We LOVE Freemont Street so we thought that this would be the ultimate place to stay...yes and no. We opted for the Carson room - outdated and really in disrepair - our shower didn't work properly and the air conditioning was straight fan - thank God we weren't there in July. The beds were extremely soft. We booked very early and reserved a room with a king~ and even though we let them know we would be arriving after 9 pm our room was gone and we got one with two queens, both uncomfortable.
It cost me 18.00 to check our flight in the day before leaving. We had to wait through three shuttles to get to the airport...and we reserved. And Gordie Brown - horrible!!!
Okay, now for the good. We loved being right outside Freemont. The pool was fantastic and we were there everyday. We went to three of the in house restaurants, including the buffet. The restaurants were expensive but excellent, Vegas...We got a little tired of being bammed by the timeshare people but they were friendly and courteous. Would we go back...absolutely, would we upgrade, absolutely!! The money saved is not worth it!!"

"We just got back from staying at the Golden Nugget. Although we have been to LV many times, this was our first stay on Freemont Street. Weather was great, Freemont had lots to do, plus it was easy access via bus up and down the strip. For the Golden Nugget, the room in the Carson Tower was a little outdated, but a good size. Loved the pool, but wish it was open until 11 (or at least 9). Also wish the pool was bigger - it was so crowded there was no room to move! Was not impressed with the wi-fi charge of $13/day per device, the $1.00 per phonecall charge (local to another hotel) or the $10 for the 4-pack of coffee. Food at the hotel and on Freemont in general was not that good value for $$, although I do wish we had tried the steakhouse at the Nugget as it looked quite good. Overall we had a good trip and the hotel was OK for the price, but we didn't think it was a 4 star quality."

"We didn't have any issues except for the sales people that bothered you every time we were going or coming from our room. I had been there before so it was not a problem finding the elevators to our room. I have always enjoyed staying downtown over the strip. I go to Vegas more to gamble instead of walking all over just looking at things. It is nice to have so many options of eating or gambling and not have to walk so far to each casino. And you don't have to worry about a busy street like the Strip. They have all the people trying to get you to go to their sales thing for timeshares, or whatever, but to some stationed right outside your elevator was really annoying to me."

"Had a great stay at the Golden Nugget, everyone was extremely helpful and it was immaculate. We had a mishap but the girl at the desk was there to help us get everything straightened out. The lunch buffet was probably the best I've ever ate. It was a great time staying downtown and would highly recommend the Golden Nugget. The only drawback....go with plenty of money, not only for gambling but for eating as well, it's very expensive and watch out for the drink and beer prices that are not generally on the menu....two seperate resturants, one we paid $6.50 for a beer and the other $7........"

"I should have taken others advice and stayed in the Rush Tower (at least I am assuming it is nicer than the Carson Tower). The room had not been updated in quite some time and was a bit shabby, although not so bad we couldn't stay in it. The view was overlooking the roof and parking garage, and the walls are so thin that it is very noisy if the room next to you is occupied. The beds were comfortable enough, but nothing special. We had gotten a very good deal on the rooms and I would say we pretty much got what we paid for! Liked the access to the activity on Freemont.....always entertaining!"

"The GN has really come up. i was there 10 years ago and it was just ok. We stayed in the Gold Club floor and to our surprise...it was exceptionally NICE. the Casino floor itself has improved and lets not get into the new Pool area. The shark tank was a visual wonder. we used the hideout on the 3rd floor and paid 20 dollars per chaise lunge, and it was worth it. we didnt have to search for a chaise and no crowd. if you have kids..then i suggest not using the hideout..but for adults .... go to the hideaout. Buffet was mediocre...but who cares. Overall...GNLV was a great choice for me and my wife. I plan to go back
One last thing... the staff at the pool, front desk, buffet..... need a little more training on customer friendliness and hospitality...."

"Enjoyed staying downtown. Very nice hotel and a great price! The fun book we received at check-in saved us a lot of money. Complimentary valet and self-parking. I agree with a previous post that it would be nice if they had free coffee - not the Keurig coffee for $10. Loved the pool with the shark tank."

"This classic casino was recently renovated, and is very clean with modern updates. The Italian restaurant, Grotto, was had excellent panini's and overlooked the Shark Tank pool. We ordered room service, which was ok, but the food ordered from the Chinese restaurant was disappointing. The staff was very friendly. There is no resort fee here, so WiFi costs #12.99 per device, and there is a $20 charge per day to use the workout facilities. This was a great and inexpensive way to stay right on Fremont Street."

"The hotel was nice enough and the room was nice enough.....but the lady I talked to upon check-in was rather rude and curt when I asked about a fun book. She said it wasn't part of my deal and I wouldn't get one. I stated that I requested one in the comments area--request area.
When I was out there, I went to other casinos and asked for a fun book and they gave me one---and I wasn't even staying with them. So I spent my money at other casinos. It would not have hurt them to give me a simple Fun Book.
They charge for coffee in the room...overkill in my opinion...that's why I am glad I brought my own---and I was staying in a Gold Club room.
The complimentary wi-fi was nice."

"Awesome!!! The best hotel in Vegas, REALLY!!! The pool is great, but if you don't have kids, definately pay the xtra $20.00 for a lounge chair at the Hideout infinity pool.
The best restaurant we've been to period is the ChartHouse inside the hotel... Cant wait to go back!!!"

"Our stay was wonderful. The pool area is incredible with the waterside going thru the shark tank! Really enjoyed our time there. One thing that was a disappointment, was that they provide you with a Keurig coffee maker in your room and then want to charge you $10 for 4 K-cups to use it! This is ridiculous! A 4 star hotel should offer free coffee in your rooms."

"Had a great 4 nights. Parking free and close. Hotel clean and staffed. Room in the Carson tower was spacious and clean with a great mattress, big screen TV and an air conditioner that worked great - didn't have to change the setting the whole 4 night stay. Maids were wonderful.
Great pool for kids and families, but if no kids it's necessary for you sanity to go to the adult pool which cost extra money. The big pool area is packed by 10am and the chairs all abut each other - no room for your legs on the side or even a small table to put your drink on. The cost at the adult run $10 for a straight back chair and $20 for a lounger per day (if these are available). The cost of a private cabana is over $175."

"it is all about the money. The ammenities listed a coffee pot in the room. There was a pot but u have to pay 4$ for 2 cups of coffee. Way too many people to even get ion the pool. Casino was crowded everynight and peolpe were rude and would run over you and hit and bump into you. Casino overall was probably a 7 and the room was probably a 6. On a scale of 1-10. They did keep out the beggars here though as across the street they were IN THE CASINO.
We went to the strip and it was even worse there as far as the panhandlers.
A new law has been proposed to outlaw this and it is no in discussion."

"We were trying to save money, but the airport trips and daily trips to the strip ended up costing us the same as if we just booked another place early enough. The way a hotel bends over backwards in a higher price hotel and convenience of location on the strip makes booking a hotel on the strip for an extra $75-100/day totally worth it.Also the food in and around was horrible."

"The first night the fire alarm rang at 4 A.M. and only because someone was smoking in the lobby. Everyone was walking down stairs half asleep. A total chaos because there is a SUPER load alarm in your room that you literally have to cover your ears. Then when I was checking out and complained to the attendant she said that I had to speak to a manager and there was a 30 minute wait to speak to a manager. The staff is very rude by the way and just wants to get to the next hotel guest. The only good staff was the maids. Don't go cheap and stay somewhere else, location is far from the strip and it doesn't even feel like Vegas. Lots of old punk rock heads because there are free concerts next door. "

"Ok well first off, check-in took over 45 minutes, only one clerk at the check-in area. but, she did give us a free upgrade to suite # 7216 in the RUSH tower, which we thought was great, until we got to the room. The room was directly above the pool, so we could hear the DJ all night and early in the morning. I mean come on, when you go to Vegas, you stay up LATE and wake up late...so i would suggest, be careful of getting suite directly above the pool area. the suite itself had a king size bed, 2 flat screens, everything was nice and upgraded and modern. loved it ! Also, daytime buffet was bleh...."

"This was only second trip to Las Vegas in my 39 years, my first experience was over ten years ago and I didn't have such a great time... well, I can say that my trip this time was wonderful and I can't wait to go back. My friend and I both booked a Rush Tower King Room the first two nights in Las Vegas, it was beautiful...sleek and modern, the room was spotless, there was little noise on the floor we stayed on (8th floor) and the staff were so helpful, you never saw a frown, and people were always willing to help! Due to the Nascar races, we were unable to get the Rush Tower King room on the last night and had to move down to the Carson tower rooms, while the room was clean and the room was functioning they are also outdated, I felt like I had gone back to the 70's, I can say that once you've been in the Rush tower it's hard to go back to the regular rooms. The thing that I noticed most was the noise level on the 5th floor was horrendous, two times during the night, someone tried my door, and then someone knocked on it and then continued to knock on it... when I called the front desk of course they came up to check, but the people were gone (isn't that always the case?)... I can't blame the hotel for that, they can't control the rude behavior of others staying at the hotel, but in all honesty, when you go from a floor that had silence and comfort, to a floor that was a regular frat party... I choose comfort. All in all I had a great experience and would not hesitate to stay here again... There was a very nice young man at the Check-Out counter, what a sweetheart, he seemed so nervous because the lines were so long... so if by chance someone gets this back to him, he did a great job and my friend and I appreciated all his help! I would not hesitate to book another stay here... But the Rush Tower is for me!"

Finally, you bearly get out of the elevator and practicely run over by people that what you to look at condos. Please, I'm on vacation to enjoy myself and not be acosted by salespeople. "First time staying at the Nugget in the Carson Tower. The rooms were nice and the beds were comfortable. At times you could hear the emergency vehicles sirens and loud cars from inside the room and we were on the very top floor. One disappointment was one of the bars, I think it was called 42nd Bar at the Nugget had a little seating area on Freemont Street. It was the middle of the afternoon and no one was sitting there so my friend and I decided to have a seat and finish our cocktail and people watch. About 20 minutes later a waitress comes out and told us we had to leave unless we bought 2 drinks at a minimum. When we told her that we are staying at the Nugget she said it didn't matter. Ok, I could see if it was at night and very crowded but there was NO ONE sitting there. AND, what took her 20 minutes to come out anyway? We headed to the strip a couple of times and we took the DSX bus to the strip. You can buy a ticket at the bus stop for 2 hrs or 24 hrs or 3 day pass. There is usually a security guard at the bus stop to help out of towers with buying their tickets. We bought the 3 day pass for $20, it was well worth it, but if you are going to the strip during peak times, weekends, expect it to take about 50 minutes to get down to MGM, which is almost all the way down the strip. You can also ride the Deuce, but expect that bus to take way longer because it stops at every corner, or so it seemed. We ate at the buffet twice, once for breakfast and once for dinner. Was not impressed with paying $20 for either. We would definitely stay here again. But the extra charges for the $10 box of Keurig coffee in your room, the internet charge and other incidentals are disappointing. They had a Starbucks coffee in the hotel but the lines were very long in the morning. But I would definitely stay here again."

"First thing was we waited in line 40 minutes to check in. After we arrived in our room and were getting settled, someone knocks on the door. I was changing so we didn't answer. We hear the door unlock!!! My husband rushes to the door and it was a man saying he was doing a security check!!! That is so scary!!! I call the front desk and ask them what the heck someone is letting themselves into our room for, not 10 minutes after check in. She says that they always let themselves in with their master key and check on waters etc...... WTH!!!! Will never be back!"

"We stayed at The Nugget over a year ago. Had no problaem with the room, except the air conditioner would not get as cool as we wanted. My complaint is with the Accounting Department and the employees who handle your credit card charges. We went to The Gordie Brown show, and had tickets that were Two for One.
When I received my Visa bill I was charged for two full priced tickets. I have been fighting with The Nugget for over a year trying to get a refund for one ticket. I have sent them a copy of the Twofer tickets, copy of my billing, etc., to no avail. I have even called them several times. They tell you what you want to hear, but I still have not received credit for the overcharge. Good luck getting any refunds due you if you get overcharged. Because of this experience we will 'never' return to the Nugget, nor recommend to anyone."

"loved the decor of the hotel and casino. I was disapointed when I arrived
although my hotel was booked a month in advance; in the carson tower, I was
told they had no rooms and I was being upgraded to the gold tower. i thought
this is great. I was then sent to a room on the 12th floor behind the elevator
shaft. the decor was very dark, the view was of the wall of the hotel and needless to say the elevator noise was very distrubing when trying to sleep.
since this was my wedding vacation it was very disapointing to say the least.

"I travel alot and have never written a review: I arrived at the Golden Nugget on Thursday February 16, 2012 I stayed in the Carson Tower 15th floor! There weren't many people in line to check in (less than 10 people) it was very slow! I arrived early and was able to go to the room! (way before 3pm) My veiw was spectacular over looking the strip! Went to the bar (H2O) the bartender and the cocktail server (Anna) were very knowledgable and friendly they filled me with great information! On Friday I went to the Adult pool and was told I needed to rent a chair in order to swim! Thru all the research I did not once did I read about renting a chair at the Adult pool!
Ok with that being said last year I stayed at the Flamingo and my stay there on a scale of 1 to 10 was 6...At the Golden Nugget the staff were friendly and knowledgable and more laid back! On a scale 1 thru 10 was 8.75! Check in could of been better and food prices could of been lower! I can't wait to go back...."

"They allow third party vendors to accost me outside my elevator about buying a condo every time I walk by! The air kept cutting off and the room never got cool even though it was only 60 degrees outside. The front desk refused to hold a cell phone that was left by a family member until I insisted. Room service took an hour and ten minutes and tasted terrible. They had no shuttle or car to take us to the airport either. They forgot how Vegas used to treat it's guests. Spend a little more and stay on the Strip where they know what customer service is."

The pool is awesome...along with the pool bar and gaming tables out by the bar. The slots were not as 'loose' as advertised but the casino was nice and not too terribly smokey. Need more drink servers though.....they seemed few and far between and some were terribly rattled about the size of the area they had to cover."

"spent 5 days at golden nugget, first time there, saving already to go back next year. pool was great, room was quiet and clean, staff friendly, did not care for the casino to gamble or eat, but freemont street had it all. other great places to eat and gamble, alot going on for all age groups. felt safe, alot of police around, light show and bands were great. never went on the strip, felt freemont street had it all, alot of great food and drink deals. too bad we have to wait another year to go back....."

"My significant other and I stayed in Rush Tower King. It was quite a lovely room. The coffee pot needed a separate plug, no biggie, we used counterspace in bathroom area; but the 'one-cup' coffee bags/filters cost $10 extra per 4pack. The 'NITE-CLUB' was not at all. Next time I will stay in New Vegas. Oh! However, the pool was quite spectacular with its clear water-slide through the shark tank. I think that made up for any negative thing i've stated."

"We love staying at the Nugget, every time we go to Vegas. The food, the Casino, the whole place! Like being downtown, walk to many other places if you like. Not as crowded as the strip, but the strip is easily accessible. The new Rush Tower is Fantastic! Highly recommend you try it once, like us, you won't stay anywhere else but the Nugget ! And we don't even use the nicest pool in town ! "
