My husband and I stayed one night at the Historian Inn while traveling through the area. I found our room to be pleasant, clean and quiet. Several people noted in reviews that there was a lot of noise from the establishment across the street. We were on the street side of the building on a Saturday night and did not hear any noise. A light breakfast of oatmeal and yogurt was included and was very good. Overall I found the Historian Inn to be good place to stay.

A very charming and quaint place to stay at. Spent 3 nights (New Year's Eve) here with family and some friends and we had a great time. The reception upgraded us to a suite and it was lovely and very kind of her. The room was neat and big. The breakfast is very basic here though and don't expect anything fancy. The location is not bad if you want to go skiing.

I would of gave this place more stars (for it being a cute hotel), but I had an absolute nightmare of a visit with the staff (Cara). It just kept getting worse and worse. The place is def cute, but I would say they have a staff training problem and generally they are being cheap on the little details. More on that later. So I booked the place on Expedia 3 days before Valentines Day. I was all confirmed on Expedia and with the hotel. Me and my girlfriend get their on valentines day weekend f... Read more

This hotel is a great find. The rooms are beautifully decorated, high ceilings, crown molding, new feel and look. The service is better than a 5 star hotel. When we arrived late and were hungry the attendant gave us several restaurants to choose and then the one we choose didn't deliver. The attendant offered to go and pick our food up for us. Amazing. You won't go wrong with this Hotel. the pictures don't do it justice.

We stayed here before and really liked it--but that was before the new management under "Cle Hospitality." Our phone reservation was deferred to their other hotel (Avalon Lodge) in South Tahoe at a higher rate and when we tried to get it corrected, the management insinuated we were lying and they never once offered an apology for their mistake. They did offer to book us at the Historian--but at a higher rate than advertised online. Lots of time and energy spent and very little hospitality or ... Read more

Nice decor, friendly staff. Room reeked of cigarettes. Carpet was so filthy and sticky. Cement stairs were decaying away. Breakfast was a choice of bland oatmeal or yogurt. Not a 4 star hotel by any means.

Fraudulent charges- I am sad to have to post this but after over a month and 4 phone calls I feel I am without options. I stayed here in May and was not only double charged but charged a much higher rate on duplicate after booking through 3rd party site. The management has failed to address this and call me back let alone process the refund. We actually had a pretty good stay at the time until my credit card statement posted and I started making calls to the reservations staff with zero resoluti... Read more

Our three night stay was paid for in advance. Every night we stayed, they charged us again for it. When I mentioned it to the staff they said that they were new and they charged ALL the guests, but they wouldn't rectify my account. They acted like it was no big deal. My husband and I had no spending money because of their " holds" on my account. I spent everyday on the phone with my bank trying to release their fraudulent charges. The situation ruined our vacation. They didn't offer any k... Read more

The Staff was very very very very rude, The outside looks nice, and the room has some modern and comforting updates. The carpet is horribly stained, and the breakfast is a choice of a sloppy plain yogurt or oatmeal with cold coffee to drink. I had to wait 10 mins for someone to come to the counter so that I could buy their overpriced convenience store selection of wine. JUST DONT STAY HERE. The owner/manager is a fat middle aged grump who will do her best to ruin your vacation.

This used to be my "go to" stay option in the Carson Valley. It was adequate, reasonably priced, and in a good location. Then it went bust and was bought by Cle Hospitality. I figured they were upgrading the place, because it's now premium priced. Wrong. It's still a basic motel, but they only made minor room improvements and charge the premium price. Not even close to being worth the cost. The Good: (1) It's right across the street from a GREAT Basque restaurant, JT Basque. And it's ... Read more

Would give a zero if possible. Our toilet broke and LISA hung up on me at the front desk when I called to ask for help after saying there was nothing they could do. Floor was super dirty which we found out when we tried to wipe up a bit of toilet water. See pic. Complimentary breakfast is stale oatmeal.

Ii had booked through booking.com for a stay of 2 nights (Thursday and Friday. The total price quoted (including all taxes) was $266.45 I had prepaid about $110 and thus was expecting a balance payment of $156. However the final bill was about $ 60 higher and was already charged to my VISA card. I am still waiting for the over-payment to be credited. Reading the reviews of this hotel I notice that this is a recurring problem, I am considering to take legal action. The management of his hotel do... Read more

Had the most amazing time here! Staff was so friendly and recommended the Basque resteraunt across the street (JT Basque Bar & Dining Room) which was also amazing by far! After dinner we spent a night in watching movies and headed to Tahoe the next day! The room is beautiful and spacious with a cabin-like feel. The wood floors and design of the room blew me away! We will be coming back in the future for sure!

Stayed here for 3 days. I was surprised how nice the rooms are inside. It looks like there was recent renovation. The rooms are large, especially if you get the suite. The price is very reasonable. There is a small refrigerator and microwave. There is a leather chair and couch. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

Room was dirty, carpets were terribly stained, there was no soap in the dispenser in the shower. We stayed here through a time share thing we bought and it was a nightmare. We were charged for 2 rooms when we only had one. I would not recommend this hotel. Wi-Fi does not work in room.

The cost of the Motel was high, over $169.00 per night and the rooms were awful. We did not notice the Shower being broken until the morning after since we arrived late and when we went to complain they told us there was nothing they could do.

Been over a year since I had the opportunity to revisit The Historian. The upgrades to the rooms are just great. Although a lot of new staff, the excellent service and support to make this stay as outstanding as the past ones. Of great improvement was the WiFI which was lacking at times in the pastThe local area still stacked with great food, drink, and shopping of all kinds within walking distance. Hope it is sooner than a year before my next stay.

After reading the reviews we were very hesitant to stay here. Upon arrival the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Our room was very clean and we appreciated the upgraded floors. Saturday morning breakfast was a disappointment, but we were told that this was the first time they did a serve yourself. Sunday morning breakfast was literally a direct result of our comments and suggestions, which we though was great! The staff, Lindsey and Sam, listened to what we said and then fixed it. We w... This is my second time I have stayed here there was a thick layer of dust on the microwave in may room. I was supposed to stay for 4 days but an emergence with my dog, so I had to leave a day early, but still charge for the room. I will not stay here again the because of dirty room and room charge for room for early departure.

I don't know about other rooms but our room, #214 was very nice. It was a large 2 Queen beds, nice comfy chair, table with 2 chairs, micro-wave and small fridge. Nicely decorated. Large bathroom area. Nice flat screen TV and other little touches. The staff at check-in was very pleasant and helpful when we needed him. We did not eat breakfast, Oatmeal and small pastries but we did get our coffee downstairs.

We wanted to go to the famous "Candy Dance" but we're having difficulty finding a dog friendly hotel. We were pleasantly surprised to find the Historian. We have stayed at dog friendly hotels and were very disappointed. Alas here is one that takes pride in cleanliness. Thank goodness , we will be able to come back here with our dog and now being able to attend the Candy Dance next September!
