The location was perfect for our primary event...The Beach Boys at the Midland. Hotel and rooms are beautiful, but rooms are a bit small if you will be spending much time in them. No fridge. Breakfast in the Walnut Room is excellent. Julio is the best waiter I have had in ages. He keeps a watchful quiet eye on all his customers without invading your privacy and has the most pleasant demeanor. The Providence Dining room needs an introduction to salt to suit my taste, but even without salt, ... Read more

Room thermostat changed on its own. It took 3 to 4 minutes to get hot water in the bathroom. Extremely low water pressure at the shower head. Halls were very hot. I would choose somewhere else to stay until the hotel gets updated.

Hotel was nice, my room (602), was a corner room with decent views. The room itself was nice with plenty of room. Only negative was the Wifi. When it did work, which was about 50% of the time, it was very slow. Overall it was a pleasant experience. I will plan in returning to this hotel.

When we arrived at the hotel the desk clerk said, "you do realize that you booked a room without a bed" - we thought she was joking. We had booked the king parlor suite. Yes, it was our error - in the details it did note that this room included only a sofa bed. In order to get a bed with the king parlor suite you also had to book the king bedroom, we had only booked the "suite". The staff was exceptionally nice, particularly Teresa and Lashonda. We grew up in KC, but had not ever stayed in a downtown hotel until this one. It is a beautifully restored old hotel. The architecture is interesting and the historic descriptions within are informative and discreetly placed. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our room was a bit of a disappointment. A room with two beds only comes in full size, not queen. The room itself was clean, but very small. We had a corner room which was nice, windows on two side. The housekeeping staff lef... Read more

This hotel has a wonderful staff and the rooms are great . Their problem is how they have screwed with the ac system. The sensor on the thermostat will not allow the ac to cool unless someone is in the room moving. My room was 79 degrees when I checked in. The thermostat would not let me set it below 67 to quickly cool off the room. The room never got below 75 degrees and the windows would not open. It was miserable.

Pros: Staff extremely accommodating, from our friendly and helpful breakfast waitress, to the maintenance guys who happened to be in the hallway when my room key didnā??t work. They let me in with a master key, then returned minutes later with a working one. Bathroom was spacious and well equipped, with a good shower, ample space for toiletries, and thick towels. Was sent to this hotel because the hotel I booked gave away my room. The staff was so gracious and helpful. Not worth the money. Pros: Excellent location, clean hotel and rooms Cons: Dated, very pricey, poor service, room not ready at checkin, not accommodating, not enough towels, thermostat didn't work in room, restaurant prices were atrocious. Will NOT stay here again. Oh where to start... Check-in time is 3:00. We had an event to attend that evening and called ahead to double check that we could for sure be in our room at 3:00. Great location, quiet, beautiful old building, but be aware of which floors have ice machines. Very close to the KC Streetcar and convention center. Adjacent to power and light district and KC Live! Convenient from Union Station and not far from some great Jazz venues. A downtown grocery store and gym are also fewer than 2 blocks away, if the small exercise room in the hotel is busy or less than one is interested in.

We tried the President as we are seeking a hotel for our wedding guests this fall. It's an older hotel, but well appointed with great service. It operates under the Hilton brand now. What's unique about the President is its not trying to be bleeding edge modern, it's classic and it carries its claccicism well. Things to note: no free parking. There is independent parking, and there is valet parking. Also, be wary of bleed over noise from the Power and Light District, even with double pane win... Read more

There is nothing wrong with the hotel, it's just old. You can tell from the calcium buildup in the showers. It's a decent hotel, just not the 4 star money worth that they charge you. I only stay in Hilton's, this one let me down. I was expecting the best, I paid for the best, and got one of the older Hilton's I have been in. As I said, there is nothing particularly wrong with it, it just wasn't up to the Hilton standard.

Stayed here after a friend's bachelorette party. Very good customer service! Comfortable beds. Parking is $20 self park and $24 valet per day. Just keep that in mind when planning. Only ate breakfast there, but it was good. Not too elaborate, but good buffet with custom omelette. It's got the architectural charm and interest that is lacking in most hotels, so I appreciate that. Being an employee at a hotel for another brand, I appreciated the digital key option. The rooms are quiet and the beds are comfortable. I really liked the exterior of the hotel and the lighted name. No pool but it doesn't advertise one. I enjoyed the view from the higher floor. Overall, this is a great place to stay when staying downtown with an exception of a few rude employees but that's okay. Enjoyed our stay very much, though if it weren't for a wedding we were attending at the hotel we would have stayed at a more reasonably priced hotel.
