Everyone who worked there was very nice, hotel room was comfortable, multiple things in our room were broken and water was dripping from the ceiling in a few of the hallways, but the location and hospitality made it a good option. The location is in a hip part of town. Free drinks at the bar each evening and free breakfast, including an omelet bar, were great.

Great stay. Service staff very helpful. Breakfast pancake machine and omelets are terrific. Best burgers right across the parking lot. Need to ask for alternate directions when some streets are blocked for pub crawls. Almost but not too close to partying district depending on your reason for staying. Room was clean. I would rebook in a minute.

The folks at 816 were so helpful, cheerful, and kind. This was my first stay in Kansas City and this was the perfect place. Right around the corner from Country Club Square - a mecca of shops and restaurants. The hotel was clean, quiet and convenient. The staff went out of their way to pick us up downtown and get us back to the hotel after our dinner. We called and they were there in 5 minutes ready to bring us back to the hotel.

This was my second stay at the 816 in five months. And that says a lot because I was back in my home town to visit an old college buddy for the last time. He has decided not to undergo chemo and radiation for his cancers, so, I wasn't looking to a happy time. But, 816 rises again to the occasion. Shuttle picked me up at Union Station, even though its schedule for Monday nights had been cut back. But I hadn't been informed (nor had the employee who answered my question about availability) w... Stayed overnight on business. Had an older appearance but I found my room to be clean, cozy, and comfortable. The old-time photo murals on the walls were awesome. This was such a breath of fresh air after many a night of more modern, yet cookie cutter hotels that have no character at all. Service was great, and I especially liked the included breakfast. The pancakes that you "made" yourself were tasty and the cooked to order omelet was delicious. For lunch and dinner don't miss the Flea Market ... Read more

Booked a non-themed room for one night in the middle of the week - a two, double-bed room. I was expecting a crisp, clean room based on reviews, photos, and cost for the room. Instead, I experienced an old, tired, worn-out room spruced up with large digital prints of old Kansas City on the walls but not updated in any other way. In fact, the toilet seat and lid were a short round version while the toilet itself was the elongated version - really? You couldn't find a proper toilet seat? The bath ... Read more

Well, I can't exactly review my stay because the hotel sold my prepaid room to someone else! The manager, Stephanie Roberts, was quite rude and told me she didn't care if I ever booked a room there again. Wow! I was moved to a different hotel, but I was in a group of 20 and we all booked the 816 because it's close to the Starlight. It's supposed to be the official hotel of the Starlight so being moved to a hotel far away and not with my group really ruined a trip we'd planned for a year. I'm giv... Read more

We stayed 3 nights here and enjoyed our stay. They are in the process of fixing rooms up they said ,so we were able to overlook some areas that need freshening up. The staff at front desk was friendly and checking in and out was quick. The bar staff as well as the breakfast staff were so fun and sweet. They include 2 free cocktails each evening and a nice breakfast to get your day going. Their location in Westport neighborhood is great.

I found the 816 Hotel on Tripadvisor. I was NOT disappointed. This is a fun and funky re-do hotel in the Westport neighborhood of KC. I took advantage of the "Starlight Theater Package" and it was great! This package included transportation door-to-door to and from the venue. I booked a room a few nights (Tuesday, June 28, 2016) ago as I was planning ahead when visiting family on my road trip to see them. (I traveled from Maryland to Missouri.) A "special" rate was offered at $78 with fees putting me at $91. It was considered non-refundable after June 26 (which I thought was odd since I booked it on the 28th.) On the way there, I got in a non-injury-causing car accident leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere. My car is worth maybe $6k on a good day and $1,370 ... Read more

We stayed two nights at the 816, at a very good rate, while playing in a tennis tournament at the Plaza Tennis Center, a little over one mile away. The room comes with two free drinks in the bar between 4 and 6, and a free hot breakfast including custom omelets. It is a somewhat dark and out-of-date place, but it has wonderful large murals of historical Kansas City on each floor by the elevators, and other historical photos in the rooms.

The 816 hotel is in a great area. Close to a lot of night life. Parking is a little limited, but at least the lot is free and you get a pass to put in the window. Breakfast was terrific, and the coffee is excellent. I'll start with great: breakfast was fantastic--seriously, give the cook a raise!--and the cocktails were a nice touch. The hotel manager, with a little prompting, fixed an issue with pricing, though I had to do some of the leg work to get us there. I stayed at 816 for only one night. I found it to be very good. The room's Size is little small. Carpet needed to be shampooed or replaced. Breakfast was included and it was great. Location is perfect and so is the staff. Jonnel, Molly, and Amanda were professional, nice, and very helpful. I would stay here if I were to come to KC.

We were in Kansas City for the first time. I chose this hotel based off of other reviews and could not have been happier! Super service, lively lobby and great location! We walked to the bars on Friday night and had a blast! We will stay here the next time we go to Kansas City.

The best thing about this hotel is the people who work here. On every level we encountered friendly, fun, interesting and interested folks. It feels like a family run establishment. We interacted a lot with Marie and she was outstanding. Made me and my parents feel so welcome. But everyone else was great too, including the omelette gals in the morning. And our favorite bartender Victor. Kenny was great at accommodating our needs, as well. The place is in transition, so keep your expectations ... Read more

We stayed here 2 nights and it was a lot of fun, hotel being renovated so a few issues but nothing that spoilt our stay. Happy hour was a lot of fun, nice to get talking to people and the staff were really great, very helpful with tips etc.

We went to Kansas City on a quick trip and were pleasantly surprised at everything about this hotel! Convenient to Westport, within walking distance of restaurants, coffee shops and more. Breakfast omelet couldn't be beat and what a surprise to arrive and receive complimentary wine or beer tickets. Nice touch! Smiling and friendly staff were also a plus!

We spent the night here because it was (a) under $100 and (b) a close walk to the best restaurant in Kansas City. Someone else noted that remodeling is underway. If we stayed again, I'd ask if we could get a remodeled room for the same rate. The room was clean enough, but definitely showing some wear. The towels and bed linens were impeccably clean. Staff was very accommodating. Parking was great.

This is my favorite hotel in KC even if it is a little off the beaten path.check in for my group of 10 rooms was smooth. They even gave me my favorite room! The rooms were clean and comfortable. This is an historic hotel and there are areas that need attention. The elevators could use some of that attention. They're not dangerous. Just some cosmetic work would be in order. Breakfast was great with some made to order omelettes and pancakes. The staff is friendly and helpful in any situation. ... Read more

This is an older hotel that is being renovated. Great beds. Free wine & beer starting at 5 pm. Omlets made to order in the morning. The staff we interacted with were fun to talk to. We walked to Beer Kitchen and wobbled back to the hotel. Wonderful. You need to stay here.

My boyfriend and I stayed here back in January for the Tool/Primus show at the Sprint Center. (Tool was amazing!!!) Upon check in the manager upgraded us to a cute theme type of room at no charge since our room wasn't ready, and honestly we showed up a bit early and didn't mind waiting, but this dude was seriously kind to get us into a room asap! The hotel was undergoing renovatiions, but we barely noticed. It was quiet, clean and smelled nice. Our room was spotless, the facilities in great shap... Read more

Hotel is in a very cool area of KC. Lots of restaurants and shops. Hotel is clean and the staff was very friendly. They are really trying to give you a good experience here. That being said some of the renovations happening here were a little weird. Laminate flooring on the walls in the elevators and sealant in the bathrooms was everywhere. However these things are just nit picky, overall a nice hotel that has a "active" feel, and if you want to be near things to do this is the place.

My wife and I just spent a week at this Hotel. We stayed in one of the theme rooms (world war one) with a great view of Westport. The room was large, clean and good value. The staff is a real positive at this hotel, very friendly and attentive. Complementary happy hour at five and great omelets in the morning. We look forward to seeing Rita and or her daughter Brandi every time we stay here.

Just spent the weekend and Hotel 816 and it was great. The rooms were clean, comfy bed and great breakfast. I am from Denver so needed lots of help finding different locations and Marie at the front desk was most helpful. Definitely start your day with the omelets made by Rita with help from Brandi. They were delicious. I would highly recommend this hotel and the price was reasonable.

A clean and comfortable room with super friendly staff. While the hotel was filled to the max, all the staff still managed to greet us with a smile and a friendly hello. We took the free shuttle to enjoy the Plaza lighting celebration and the young man driving couldn't have been nicer. The breakfast area was spotless and well stocked, and the custom omlets were very well prepared. We also enjoyed meeting new friends at the managers reception. The location is ideal, close to shopping, restau... Read more

Room and service were great. Very cool rustic bar stools and table in room. Old school Kelly's signage was nice too. The history in the halls and lobby are fun to look at and learn a bit of KC history.

They were in the process of renovating rooms - we stayed September 2016 and attended concert at Crossroads. The hotel is different than "normal hotels". They have themed rooms. We stayed in a reg room with king bed and couch. Good sized room, small bathroom with very little counter space, bad lighting, great water pressure in shower/tub combo. The renovated rooms look to have great bathrooms. Would love to come back and check them out. We were to hung over to enjoy breakfast. We grabbed some f... Read more
