We like to take in the occasional Minnesota Wild game or other event at the Xcel Energy Center across the street and it's important to make your reservations early for the Holiday Inn St. Paul Downtown early if you want to do that. It's perfect location often means the rates will steadily rise until there are no rooms left -- sometimes months in advance. Rooms are fairly basic and meet, but do not exceed franchise standards. Housekeeping is good. The elevators are slow and the lobby is small. (S... Read more

We (4 of us) stayed here this weekend for a dance competition at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium. The distance to where we needed to be was perfect as was the access to many different restaurants! Couldn't beat it! BUT it's also a VERY high traffic area. If you are a light sleeper DO NOT STAY HERE! Between the loud cars/trucks, sirens and people yelling on the street and in the hotel I barely slept all weekend. Walls of our very TINY room were paper thin and the gap under the door made it feel ... Read more

Great location to the Science Museum, the River Center, Xcel Energy Center, restaurants including a good Irish pub (had the best pork chop there I've ever eaten), etc. Hallway carpeting looked "tired" and dated, but the room was spotless and neat. Appreciated the good size frig as we had brought along some b'fast items to eat in the room in the morning. Wish we didn't have to pay for parking ($15 for one night stay), but not surprised that there was a charge because of the location. Staff we... Read more

This was my first time at the hotel, and it was pretty good on the most part. Lets start with positives.. - Clean inside when you walk into the hotel and the room - Close parking, only $15 downtown. In and out privileges - Room had a towel dog on the bed, nice greeting - Clean bed sheets - Room looked updated and new - Fast wifi - Clean bathroom - It was hot outside, but room was at 72, felt good - There was a restaurant connected downstairs The negatives I had... - Half the towels in the bath... Arrived a bit early on a Friday but was able to get right into our room. Staff was courteous and friendly. Room was clean with plenty of towels and extra pillows if needed. Refrigerator and microwave in room. Flat screen tv with free HBO. Iron and board. Hair dryer in bathroom. Room very clean. Grandson loved the towel dog on the bed. Shuttle service within 3 miles of the hotel. On site restaurant that offers free breakfast to kids 12 and under with paying adult. Would definitely stay again.

This hotel is right across the street from the Xcel Energy Center and a large conference center. It is also a block from the Children's Museum. There are many restaurants and activities within walking distance. The area is safe to walk around. It is about a 10 minute drive from the Mall of America. The room was nice and clean. Bed was comfortable. It had a fridge and microwave. The bathroom was very clean, although very little counterspace--which was okay since I was alone. The room had... Read more

This is a recently renovated hotel conveniently located to many Saint Paul attractions. Noise level is relatively low when you take into consideration its proximity to major roads and the Xcel Energy Center. This would have been an excellent rating except it took three rooms before finding an acceptable room. My first room had a nasty stain on the chair, the A/C unit in my second room was noisy as all heck, and my third room had a nasty stain on the chair as well. (Both stains looked like so... Read more

Room standard. Asked for a fan and was told that they no longer had any to borrow because guests kept stealing them. Told that they were so busy that they would not let anyone into a room before the clocked ticked to the appointed hour. Pool very small. Restaurant fine. tried to walk downstairs from the 5th floor. Could not exit except through an emergency door which noted that an alarm would sound. Had to walk back to the second floor and take an elevator down to the first.

First time in St. Paul but this was a prime location. Right by the Xcel Center and St. Pauls Cathedral. The room was a little small and no free breakfast though. Vanessa at the front desk was great though and appreciated her service. Other than that, just okay.

What great location, within walking distance of both the Excel and the Science Museum. We were on the 6th floor and the only negative I have is a slightly musty smell when entering the room. The pool area is small but sufficient. You have to pay for parking but they give you a card to use during your stay so there is no problem going in and out.

This is a great hotel to stay at if you're going to anything at the Xcel Energy Center, it's right across the street. It's also close to several eateries and bars in the area so it's well worth it if you have a concert or game across the street. It's also just down the block from the Minnesota Science Museum. The rooms aren't the best and could certainly use some updating but it was very convenient.

We were in St. Paul for a family wedding and had stayed here before. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Indoor parking but costly. The Liffey Irish Pub is relaxing and delicious. The shuttle was a huge benefit and very convenient and timely. It was less than 15 minutes to pick us up from the time we called for a ride back to the hotel at the end of the evening. (Other family staying at the Holiday Inn-94 waited over an hour.)

This location is right in the heart of downtown St. Paul. It is withing walking distance to many local restaurants and attractions. It is also right next to the interstates so you can easily get on and go where you need to go. We stay here as it is right across the street from where our doctors appointments are. Loved the location. Great walking distance to everything. Especially Cosetta's which you need to visit. Hotel room was okay. Terrible lighting and our microwave didn't work; the fridge also almost fell out every time we opened it. Remote for the TV also didn't work. The nutshell: sufficient accommodations in a great location for a steep price. This was a $154 per night (excluding taxes) off-season, late September 2-night stay. Hubs and I were there for a concert in St. Paul proper, and got in late that night and had both breakfasts and one supper at the adjunct Liffey's Irish pub (see review). The staff at the front desk is always friendly no matter what hour of day or night that we arrive at the hotel. They have a ramp for parking for their customers, with a nominal charge.
