The Rooftop Bar at the Indigo Hotel opened just days ago, and you should go there. While understaffed at the moment, the view is wonderful, looking North across West Grand Traverse Bay from five stories up, and East and West at the tolling wooded sand dunes. There is no traffic noise up there, and the breeze is fresh. Enjoy the cheese platter, which features Marcona almonds drenched in hone, with sage. And, of course, they do have a bar and other food.

So this is our second attempt to try this new hotel. DO NOT EVEN BORHER! Just go elsewhere until they can figure out what is going on. The view is one of the best in town but the holiday inn has a better deck at better prices. The room is nice but not finished as in no punch yet. We have stayed at Indigo a couple of times at other places and found them to be fresh and willy wonka cool in the decor. NOT this one. Nice finishes but nothing to write home about. Service is novice at best. T... Read more

We stayed for two nights on the third floor with a bayview. The room itself was very good, clean and modern. However, the traffic noise was tremendous and the hotel must have not spent any money on soundproofing. This was probably the worst road noise i have ever experienced at a hotel and I have stayed at over 100. The window in the room had the HVAC unit right below it so there was no good way to pull up a seat and enjoy the view. We also had to valet our vehicle for $12 per night. The ... Read more

We stayed here shortly after opening. The staff was still getting up to speed but they were all well intentioned. The design elements were great and you cannot beat the location! This is now my top place to stay in Traverse City. We had a large group and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay. Like I said, they are still working out some kinks in the service realm. This place is worth checking out!

This hotel opened this month and is a train wreck! Construction, untrained and rude staff, no luggage cart! It took 30 minutes to get car from valet and I had to go tell them what keys were mine. So bad! Please don't waste your time or money! The only plus is the beautiful rooftop bar. Worth a trip up there but stay somewhere else

We group of us stayed here their opening weekend. We checked in and were impressed with the staffs friendliness and attentiveness. There was a small issue with our reservation but the GM came right over and resolved the issue which was very impressive. When I entered the lobby I thought I was in a fancy Hotel in New York City but nope I was in beautiful Traverse City. Our room was wow. They didn't spare any detail or expense. Been there a couple times to the rooftop bar. Great views...horrendous service! Drinks are so overpriced. Just head to the Beacon if you want a view. This place has a long way to go, and they only had THREE years to figure it out! Come on, man! Only time will tell.

When I first read the revies about negative customer service regarding this hotel I thought to myself, "how much CS does one need at a hotel?" Now after staying here I understand. First I would like to say that the lady at the front desk was VERY polite and nice. That is where their customer service quality stopped. First coming into this hotel there is NO parking. Valet is the only option. They did not tell us that it is $12 a day per vehcile. That is crazy. We spent over $1300 staying at this ... Read more

I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The decor is beautiful and the staff very accommodating. I think some of the other less than favorable reviews were due to kinks being worked out as by the time I got there I could tell there were some small ones still but nothing major at all and the staff was very quick to correct small issues (I had one with my bill and they corrected easily). Very nice and I will stay again.

Beautiful new hotel with upscale public spaces and rooms, and great location just across the street from the bay. You're just a couple blocks away from restaurants and shops downtown. This *should* be a nice hotel and a good addition to the Traverse City community. But there are issues, and many other reviewers are pointing them out. First, there is no swimming pool. Yes, you have the bay across the road, but an indoor pool would be appropriate for a hotel like this. Second, the rooftop... Read more

A group of my friends stayed in the Torch Lake area for a birthday celebration. We stopped at the Hotel Indigo while doing a little pub crawl. Their roof top bar had amazing views of the Bay. We took a ton of beautiful pics that we'll treasure forever. The bartender gave our birthday peeps a free drink and made them feel special. It was a busy Friday night but they were sufficiently staffed so no one waited long to be served. Plus we found a table that fit our group of 10. Next time I hope to st... Read more

I frequent the area for business. I have stayed in this brand in other places and this one was top notch. I tried the dessert after eating dinner by nearby North Peak brewery which was good. I have to say their cheesy grits for breakfast was the best i had in a very very long time. The rooftop bar area overlooks the bay. Walking distance to nearby shops, marina etc. Valet parking only...12.00...A welcome addition to the downtown area.

Great location. Rooftop bar beautiful but not enough servers. Not enough variety. After 4 times saying they didn't have it, the server finally had something we wanted to drink, and we didn't ask for anything obscure. Pricey, Nice room, great shower, but missing a few details. No magnifying or makeup mirror. Also no fridge. Still new, so hoping it gets better.

Being new isn't an excuse for horrid service. The staff spent more time talking to each other than concentrating on their patrons. Our waitress was not friendly, in fact, I felt like we were a bother to her, I mean does she not realize her tips are based off her service? I wish I would have gotten her name now, that's how upsetting she was. After she took our order (which I agree with other reviewers, the selection is embarrassing lacking for such a new hot spot) When she brought us the drin... Read more

We stayed here for the last night of Cherry Festival. Of course since the hotel is new, it's very clean and nicely decorated. The rooms are average size, quite noisy (although I expected that during Cherry Festival) and overall just fine. They closed off the rooftop bar to hotel guests only for the fireworks which was an unexpected, and wonderful, perk of staying here. My husband and I splurged on a 2-night stay here, as we normally opt for quite a bit lower quality and priced hotels. The location is PERFECT. Besides Park Place (which was more outdated than we wanted), it's the only hotel downtown. If you want to experience downtown and the beach without having to drive, this is the place. Otherwise, though, we weren't very impressed. We had a bay view room, but we we were on the 2nd floor so our view was more of the beach parking lot than the water itself. T... Read more

The hotel and its appointments are visually appealing and it is in a great location. However, the lobby staff (front desk, valets) were snobby and unpleasant to deal with. The rooms look cool but aren't very functional. For instance, the bathroom sinks are roughly one inch deep. Staff was all helpful, friendly, and personable.. Had an issue with the AC (no constant fan cycles all the time), and instead of blowing me off they took the time to explain the issue, their attempts to fix it, and apologize for it not being up to standard. They then brought up a voucher for a free breakfast (which we didn't use, but it was the right thing to do) to try to make amends. Sometimes customer service is more about the experience not the result..

Give them 100% for the rooftop bar and how it is laid out, but drinks are pricey and food is below par, will not go here again for awhile. While we had a good server they have to run downstairs to get the food so food came out a different times, need a way better setup.

We were very excited to try the newest hotel in Traverse City. As loyalty members of the IHG group, we are familiar with their brands and have always had great stays at their properties. On entering the valet area we watched as one valet helped a guest and the other stood behind his podium drinking water. The one working with the other guest alerted the other young man to assist us. Michael in Housekeeping was the star of our trip - very helpful in the morning during an impromptu run-in (I needed a couple plastic forks, and he tracked them down), and very helpful cleaning our room. This is my 15th trip to traverse city. This will be the only hotel I stay at moving forward. Contemporary, clean, great bar in the lobby and the roof top and good breakfast in the morning as well. Met 2 of the chefs (yes chefs). Great place. Nothing negative at all. Highly recommend.

Traverse city is such a wonderful place to visit! But it was lacking a really nice, modern place to stay downtown. The Hotel Indigo is a perfect fit for this downtown area. It's contemporary, upscale, well located and very comfortable. It's not on the water, but has plenty of water views- especially from the lovely rooftop bar that serves delicious craft cocktails. We also liked eating breakfast at the restaurant in the lobby area. The drinks were great and the food was delicious. Only downside ... Read more

We had a wonderful time here and this place has the potential to get even better. Like all new properties it had some early growing pains but staff were very attentive to what was going on. The rooms are very nice, comfortable and modern. The bathrooms are great with huge rain showers and well appointed. I really liked the location-right across from the park on the beach and easy walking to all of the wonderful downtown restaurants. I will definitely be back and it appears that Indigo is on it's... We really enjoyed our time at Hotel Indigo. The hotel is very, very clean with great views of the bay(especially from the roof top bar), across the street from the public beach and one block away from front street. The rooms were very comfortable and the Staff was Awesome! Especially Rose, Jennifer, and Trevor (good luck in your senior year), and all to the friendly housekeeping staff, thanks for your hard work!

First of all - this hotel is gorgeous!! You cannot beat it's proximity to the beach and local restaurants. Staff was very accommodating - especially during a holiday weekend. The rooftop bar was an added plus. Drinks were a little on the pricey side but the view is well worth the few extra bucks. The hotel is a new structure. The rooms are very modern and chic. We stayed in a room with a bay view - the heavy traffic at night and early morning was quite disturbing at times. Overall we are excited... Read more

1st time in Traverse City over Labor Day.The hotel staff was great! Room was nice with fabulous view of the bay. Newer hotel with 2 bars and restaurant. We had room service breakfast each morning and it was great. The valet parking service was convenient. Only detraction was traffic noise from the street below. We asked for a box fan to screen the noise and they sent one up to the room in minutes..problem fixed!

The NEW Hotel Indigo in Traverse City is stunning with a million dollar view of the West Bay. And just a couple minutes walk to the downtown area, awesome restaurants/brew pubs and the beach. The decor was modern with touches of the Northern Michigan "feel" played out in artwork, wallpaper, furniture and gorgeous bathrooms with pebble/stone floors and rustic barn wood look ceramic tiles in the shower. Our room faced the back of the hotel so we didn't have any problems with noise from the street... Read more

We stayed 2 nights in this new hip hotel. It is in a great location and we had a wonderful view of the lake. The room was big with a great bathroom and a comfortable bed. The only complaint that I had was that the room was noisy the glass should be thicker or something. One could hear all the outside traffic. Also for a brand new hotel it had a very loud air conditioner. We also found that the server at breakfast was not well trained and had two frustrating meals - no coffee refuels, cold ... Read more

High expectations of this new entry into T.C.'s exceptional lodging & dining offerings.........unfortunately they fell flat in many categories. Not even a view of the bay from the guest room or roof top dining could make the price of this stay worth the price. Guest rooms are small and not well appointed, furnishings are 1970's, staff service was not very friendly, food was nothing special and overpriced. Save your lodging/dining budget & choose from other great T.C. hotels/restaurants with ... Read more

The rooftop deck has a beautiful view, but no shade on hot days and really, really small and expensive drinks. The service is pretty slow. The hotel is nice. I think once they figure everything out, it has the potential to be a great place.

Right downtown, we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. Room was beautiful, paid for a great view, bathrooms are amazing. Rooftop bar was fun, nice cozy gas fire top tables. Staff was all friendly. We didn't pay for the breakfast at the hotel but there's plenty of great places to eat within walking distance.

Booked this room as a platinum IHG member and were promised a corner room with a water view. Instead, we have a view of a dilapidated building next door and the road. Rooftop bar is nice. Weird decor - up north, mod, barn. Doesn't make sense. Hotel just opened this past spring, but the carpeting in the elevator is stained and the bedspread has a bunch of snags on it. It is a supposedly high-end hotel, but we will be staying at the Park Place from now on.

Pay a little extra and avoid the heavy touristy options that abound in TC. This property is quite new and very comfortable. Service and staff friendliness is quite good, as was the required valet service. The rooms are very spacious, clean and modern. The bathroom offers a very large walk-in shower and plenty of room for bathroom stuff. The king size bed was very comfortable and came with plenty of pillows. Wifi is free and there is a coffee maker in the room. Due to weather issues, we we... Read more

Great view but the traffic noise was way too loud. The rooms are nice but could use a small refrigerator, some hooks for wet towels and maybe somewhere to sit in the huge shower. Prices for everything seemed high which we could live with but for the cost of the room and the noise level we will stay elsewhere next time despite the great location.

Modern, new hotel right between the bay & shopping. We had a bay view 3rd floor room with king size bed & nice bathroom with walk-in shower. Enjoyed the 1st floor bar overlooking the water, had dinner there which was delicious and enjoyed a drink at the rooftop bar. Valet parking was great. Left the car there and walked the area for shopping. The only drawback - It is a little noisy as the hotel is right on main road. Very enjoyable stay.

This is a newer property located right, smack on a four lane street. As a result it is VERY, VERY noisy. My wife couldn't sleep all night using ear plugs. The view is beautiful on the bay side but incredibly noisy. While we didn't stay on the back side looking out on the warehouse district, I don't believe it would have been much quieter. Our room was modern, but the cleaning left a lot to be desired. Black hairs very visible in the bathroom, M&M's on the floor alongside the bed frame, etc... Read more

I did not stay here but visited the lobby bar as well as the rooftop bar. There were 8 of us in a bachelorette party and when we entered there were a bunch of guys at the bar so we hung out there. A guy offered to buy us shots so, of course, we agreed. We took shots with him, hung out and chatted and had a great time. We started to make our way to the elevator, saying goodbye when the waitress gets SUPER pissed and yells at us, 'who's paying for the shots??' Our shady friend who offered to ... Read more

I stayed here while at a conference for work. The hotel is new. It is nice (clean, friendly staff, nice board and conference room). I feel like there are still a few things they are trying to figure out, since they are new. For example, parking. Valet is basically required as that is the only type of onsite parking. There was a little rush as I was getting there and as I was leaving, and although the valet attendants were very friendly they seemed a bit frazzled. The front desk staff was the sam... Read more

The hotel is very well appointed and the staff is very friendly; however, it is very noisy. You can hear everything and our room was next to a housekeeping closet which further increased the noise in the mornings as the staff went in and out. The a/c also seemed noisier than most. The other drawback is the required valet parking which makes it a pain to retrieve items from your car or if you need it multiple times.

this hotel is super chic for michigan! it is new, which is probably why i found it to be so great. the location: across from the water, which, would have been ideal IF we weren't there in october. it is a tad far from the heart of downtown, but not more than a few blocks, if that. the room: wonderful! ENORMOUS bathroom with a delightful shower (seriously, a rain shower that i could have stayed in for hours), large comfy bed, & tv with numerous channels (more than most hotels offer). i will... The room and view were great my only caution would be not to pay extra for a bay view room as the traffic noise is terrible. Stayed in a 2nd floor room with a bay view, I regret not moving after the first night as I was awakened both mornings at 6:00 am by traffic noise, (think 5th armored division rolling by)

We stayed at the Hotel Indigo this October. First off, if you love the downtown area, this hotel has a great location. It is located just a couple of blocks outside of the main shopping/restaurant district and is easily walkable. We only took our car out once to go to Sleeping Bear Dunes in the two nights we stayed there which was convenient since the hotel only has valet parking (for $12 per night). As for the hotel itself, it was for the most part, very nice. everything from the rooms to t... Read more

This is a pretty little hotel across from the lake and easy walking distance to many restaurants and shops. The rooms are clean and the daily housekeeping was good. Travelers should be aware that there is no parking. The bar and restaurant close very early in the evening. And the doors don't quite meet the door jamb, so it's very noisy.

Hotel Indigo was one of the most beautiful hotels we have visited (a little pricey in our opinion but one night was worth it). The lobby area is stunning, with windows looking out over the bay. That this hotel, which is hailed as a shining star and much needed cornerstone to Traverse City's downtown development, would turn out so cheesy. I looked to stay here this past summer but high season rates were out of my budget soaring to over $400 per night. So I grabbed these past few nights at more reasonable rate hovering around $100. And here is what I found: 1. Construction skimping on floor/ceiling/ window sound reduction Maybe the developers thought it wouldn't matter because th... Read more

Always ask for Jake in the bar -- he will make your visit very enjoyable and we guarantee good food (try the flatbread and bruschetta, we did!) and great service while you enjoy a view of the Bay. Happy Hour begins at 3:00 and lasts until 7:00 and the prices get even better then. The first day, we went earlier and did not enjoy Happy Hour pricing, but returned on Day 2 and did get the lower prices on the same things we had enjoyed Day 1. Jake is a real kick!

We wanted to stay as close to downtown as we could for our vacation and this was the place. A great walking location. Now for the nit-picky things: -there is only valet parking. it is not horrible to use, you just call down for your car and it's normally there for you by the time you're down in the lobby.
