Wow, is what my husband and I continue to say! We called and cancelled our reservation in plenty of time. However, we were still charged for a night. $160 for not staying at a hotel and following their reservation policy. The manager, Ricky, is the most rude individual I have ever meet in a customer service industry. She called me a liar the first time I called. The second time she told my husband she had already spoken with me. He asked for the number of the owner in order to contact him... Read more

The Riverfront is a run down hotel, with a so so location. It's next to Rt. 131, a bit over 2 miles north of downtown. Positives: free wifi & parking. The staff is friendly and accommodating. Negatives: It's too far to walk to downtown Grand Rapids. While the hotel has a shuttle, it runs once every two hours, too infrequent to be useful. Instead of recommending a cab company, the hotel suggests guests open Uber accounts. None of this would have been an issue if I'd been just passing through. B... Read more

So this place is actually within walking distance from the more happening down town Grand rapids area. About a 20 minute walk or so. Hotel itself is kind of in an industrial area that appears a bit run down. Not the dirtiest or cleanest place I have ever been. Guys this is not a 5 star hotel and it is not presented itself as one. You can do a lot better and its not a great hotel, thats just the reality. A bit run down and the rooms show some wear. On a positive note, my experience with ... Read more

Absolutely hated our stay. 1 star is even too much to give. Our wifi didn't work at all. Our smoke alarm was hanging off our wall. Our bathroom looked like it hadn't ever been cleaned. Not to mention when I went to use the "clean" towel in the bathroom it was obvious it wasn't cleaned prior to our stay. It has dried crusted snot on it!! When we tried to get a shuttle downtown they told us it was booked. They only run it at odd hours until 11. Even though when we showed up it was sitting there on... Read more

When we called to book the room, their was no answer? I never heard of a hotel front desk not being properly staffed to answer the phone! Tried three times throughout the day and finally got someone. Made reservation ...in town for a wedding. Wedding invites said there was special rate for staying at this hotel. When I made the reservation they did not honor the special rate. Found this place for $65 + Tax, the lowest within a few minutes of Downtown Grand Rapids. Other places were over $100 and most were higher than $150. Most of the reviews I read were dead-on. Nice staff, lousy facility in need of much upgrading. Needed help from maintenance to open the room door - needed a swift kick! Apparently the folks who redid the tilework didn't get in right! Very crowded with what seemed to be school groups and wedding parties, but not too noisy. The gym had no ventilation... Read more

I stayed here several times in April and May due to my son being in the hospital. First time I called for a reservation I was put on hold for about 15 minutes, girl who answered informed me she had a ton of check in's and was the only one at the desk. I hung up and called back and told her I'd been waiting and was put on hold again but only about 5 minutes this time. Made reservation and got a good hospital rate. Check in was slow, still only 1 person at desk. I will give a good word on her frie... Read more

For the price this hotel really wasn't worth it. Even though it's near the city center I would have rather gotten a better hotel further away. The front desk staff was nice and helpful and the front lobby was gorgeous. However the rest of the hotel is showing it's age. The highlight is the restaurant which has pretty good food but they only had one server while we were there so room service was out. As for the room, well it wasn't as clean as I'd expect. There was garbage left and the coffee ma... Read more

Pretty rough hotel. Front desk people were really nice and helpful, they made up for the condition of the hotel. It is under renovation, but we had brand new beds that were so poorly mounted, they rattled on the frame :-(. A rough neighborhood also. I would be careful about leaving anything in the car.

Was placed in this hotel as part of a hockey tournament. Seedy area of town. Pan handlers and bums in front of hotel. Don't even attempt to try to check in any earlier than 4:00. The stench when you walked in was quite nauseating and was the same throughout the hotel. When we pulled the covers down, we realized the sheets had not been changed (large stain, hairs visible). Pull-out sofa was still open and those sheets had not been changed. Hairs in bathroom. Hair dryer did not work. WiFi... Read more

From rude desk clerks to rooms that were sadly lacking, this hotel was barely clean enough to even my mediocre standards. We arrived at 2:30pm for a 5pm wedding. No one at the desk seemed to be able to give us a time when we COULD check in to prepare for the wedding. They suggest we use the pool lockerrooms!! The bar was the only enjoyable area. Good food, good service. And, to be fair, the do offer free WiFi.

I hesitated to book this hotel for two nights due to recent negative reviews but am so glad to have gone there. Our room was very clean and had obviously received some renovations, the beds were comfortable, the air conditioning and water were just fine. There was a large TV, fridge and microwave. The pool, hot tub and sauna were all good. The restaurant food was great and reasonably priced. The lounge had a comedy show on Sunday night which was a lot of fun, and we saw some 4th of July firework... Read more

I was checked into my room around 5pm. When I came back to the hotel at around midnight my room key didn't work. I went to the front desk and they informed me that they checked someone else into my room while I was away, but they noticed I had my belongings in the room. Come to find out that I had $130 stolen from me and a pair of headphones. I've been trying to get this resolved and the hotel is not responding at all. It's been 10 days now since I stayed there. We only stayed one night thankfully! The room was just bearable for the night. The pillows were uncomfortable and the sheets had hair on them. The shower had hair in the tub and the drain was clogged so while showering you had the pleasure of standing in your own filth. The pool was freezing and the hot tub had a froth of disgusting body soil floating on top. I guess you get what you pay for. Cheap price was the only plus and it wasn't worth that. Would not recommend!

This restaurant is under renovation by a new independent owner. We stayed in a renovated room which seemed fine. However, hallways were unclean, restaurant was very unclean (floors were dirty, looked like it had not been vacuumed in months and they were "out" of most food we requested (i.e. scones for part of the continental breakfast). This place could be great because its location is close to downtown.

So many issues with this place. They switched my King Bed room to a double bed without telling me until I went in the room. There was open and eaten food in the dresser drawers. The TV only had 2 channels that came in and the rest were all static. The shuttle that they advertise and sits in front of the building I was told by the front desk is not theirs and the van that they use was unavailable. I liked the location of the hotel - that's why I chose it. We had a two-day stay. Unfortunately, the construction crew didn't follow orders and started at 9 a.m. (suppose to start at 10 a.m.), so that was annoying. The front desk apologized and made it right for us. Our room was clean, no problem there. The room key had to be changed out quite a few times, that was annoying. This place has so much potential that it falls short of. It seems really nice as soon as you walk in and the lobby has you excited for your stay. The rooms leave much to be desired. The doorknob to the bathroom literally fell off when I touched it. And I'm all for handicap accessible amenities but the seat on n the shower hits you in the ribs the whole time because it won't stay against the wall.

The hotel seems like a great bargain for what they advertise. You think you are getting an awesome room with a view, but there are awkward and useless balcony-type structures on every window that you cannot walk out to and also obstruct views of the river. The carpets were old. The air conditioning in the room barely worked. The elevator on the south side of the building was broken as the doors opened to the 7th floor and the elevator was at least a foot beneath the floor! Breakfast was not inc... Read more

I booked off of Groupon, so the rate was decent. Room was clean. Didn't use the pool, but it had large sliding doors, to access the outside seating area. The bar is very run down, staff was eating the whole time, one drink and out of there. Have to pay for breakfast, unless you have a coupon.

$138 for a king bed and a sofa. Room was small with nasty old carpet. Cups and water bottles looked like they've been re-packaged/re-used. Terrible looking area with panhandlers just outside. Did not feel safe leaving my car in their parking lot. This is a 2-star place at best and should charge no more than $80/room/night.

This hotel did the most important things well - front desk staff was friendly and helpful, the bed was comfortable, the shower was warm, and the rooms were quiet. The restaurant food was fantastic, and the chef even made a special request for my wife who suffers from food allergies. However...there were some issues. We tried it because the location was acceptable and the price was best for downtown location. Needs a bit of a facelift but for the price considering the market it was ok. The staff was friendly. The check in and check out was quick despite a little confusion about the reservation. It was handled quickly and to our satisfaction.

I want to thank Justin, the overnight manager for his phenomenal service he provided. There was a humidity issue with our room and he personally came to the room to check right away. This hotel is a wrinkle away from being labeled senile, and a dive. We rented here as it was on sale through Hotels.com and on the river. Check-in went smoothly enough, but there are clear signs of aging and even falling apart throughout the establishment. Hotel is dated but big room and big comfy bed. Cleanliness is average. Wifi didn't work at all anywhere, even reception. They obviously knew because i got a leaflet "thanking me for my patience" during renovations at check-in. Don't advertise as having free in room wifi when you know it doesn't work. We had a room in 6th floor with the river view. The view wasn't something you would die for but I guess it was better than no view at all. Other than that the room served its purpose. This is one of TwoInMaine's very few "Poor" reviews. But the Riverfront in late summer 2016 is a sad reminder that location and affordability sometimes come at a price. This is a rundown, not-very-clean, not-very-well-maintained hotel that must have seen better days. The room was comfortable, but a premium paid for "river view" neglected to mention the low building roof included in the view.
