Stayed one night for a recent Garth Brooks concert. In my many years of traveling, I believe that my room at the JW Marriott in Grand Rapids was THE most comfortable I have ever experienced. The bed was perfectly firm; linens were crisp; desk chair was awesome; bathroom was thoughtfully designed; shower was luxurious. I would love to come back!

Other than a clogged shower drain which was reported but not addressed - the hotel was fantastic! Our room, on the 16th floor, had a fantastic view of the downtown skyline. The room was tastefully decorated and the bed very comfortable. Highly recommend valet parking - so easy. The hotel location was convenient to everything downtown!

We were in Grand Rapids for a conference and stayed at the JW Marriott. I was impressed from the moment the taxi pulled up. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They upgraded us to a gorgeous corner room on an upper floor. The room was perfect, the view of the city and river was awesome. We ate breakfast at the hotel, and while I don't usually like buffets, this one was great and not too expensive. Overall a great stay!

Beautiful hotel. My room was wonderful, my view even better. I overlooked the river and science museum. Not sure how the view on the other side of the hall is...The pool was a nice surprise, I was able to actually do laps. It is not huge, but definitely much longer then most hotel pools. The eucalyptus infused steam room is incredible - incredibly relaxing and incredibly HOT! Almost too hot actually. I wish I could have lasted longer then I did once the steam was full out. It was a littl... Read more

We ended our southwest Michigan brewery tour with a stay at the Marriott. The hotel is clean and exceptionally modern with great views of the surrounding downtown area. The location served as a great centralized home base from which we could walk to some local craft breweries and a concert venue. The washroom in the room was spa-like.

A frequent visitor to Grand Rapids, I had never stayed at the JW until this weekend. We stayed for two nights and the hotel is wonderful. From the check in to the check out, everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The room (on the 22nd floor) had a city view and you could see for miles. Everything in the room was very clean and bright, great bathroom and comfortable bed, along with free wi-fi. Even within Marriott's JW luxury brand, there can be substantial variations in quality. The Grand Rapids JW Marriott hotel is one of the very best of the brand. The building architecturally stunning, and sits on the bank of the Grand River. The riverside bar and dining are in one of the most beautiful and relaxing setting you will find outside of a beach resort. Stayed two nights in June. Great location, walking distance to restaurants and museums. Room very clean. Double shower heads were awesome. Only con was bathroom vanity counter top a little small. Had breakfast buffet both days, very good. Chef Elvis was great. The location of this hotel is excellent for newcomers to this city, and the staff is very professional and pleasant. However, for some reason the manager chooses to have "music" playing at all time which is annoying, discordant, and hard to escape. You have to walk past an overly narrow area up front to get to the guest elevators and, when it's busy, it can create a bit of a logjam. We stayed at the JW Marriott the first weekend in October while in town for Art Prize. This is a great hotel and being right downtown was perfect for viewing all the art. The service was first class from the bellman at the door to the front desk staff.

I tagged along with my guy for a business trip. I was very pleased with EVERYTHING at this hotel. The room was well appointed and spacious. The staff on point and very polite. The entire atmosphere is upper class and worth the visit. I am looking for another trip to Grand Rapids with a longer stay in mind...I can say that I believe the room we had was haunted however, which normally doesn't bother me at all. I have a tendency to attract spirits. (As I was trying to sleep, I kept waking up like s... Read more

Very, very nice! Large and appointed fitness center including cool towels and fruit post workout. Bathrooms were large with a great shower head and high end toiletries. The towels were thick and oversized. The elevators moved quickly--even up to the nineteenth floor. Location was walkable to coffee shops, bars, arena, and restaurants. Walking trails and bridges give access to parks and trail along river. The only thing that annoys me is the over $20 fee per night to park in the garage. There is ... Read more

Stayed here on a business trip. The location and views are excellent. Very well appointed rooms. Friendly and well trained staff. Small hiccups like an inoperable personal coffee maker and inattentive service over breakfast in the restaurant. I don't know what's being masked, but I agree with other criticisms about the overwhelming chemical fragrance that lingers in all the common spaces...very unpleasant and not luxurious at all. The spa gave us excellent massages. I have to commend everyone ... Read more

This is one of the main hotels in the centre, with access to other hotels and main buildings via the Skywalk on the first floor. There is a terrace next to the river with tables and some larger seating areas in tent like structures (are they called cabanas? I'm not sure). The foyer is quite nice, you can sit there and staff offer to bring you food and drink from the bar and restaurant, or you can go to the small Starbucks at the other end of the ground floor (downstairs from the conference cen... Staff friendly and helpful. I really liked the valet's uniforms (sounds silly, but they are a modern take on classic uniform. Very cool.) Common areas stunning with views of the river. They gave us handicapped accessible room. Large bathroom. Huge windows with lots of light. Clean, comfortable. Heating/cooling system very quiet. Spa was delightful - I had a quick manicure (thanks Kim!) Towels with essential oils, tea, view of the river. When I left, they gave me a homemade chocolate mint an... Read more

Soooo glad the Amway was booked. The JW was so less crowded, so much more classy and friendly and so modern. Such a long, ugly trip on the freeway to get there. It took us 1 1/2 hours longer to arrive. I was annoyed, frustrated and cranky when I checked in and then the young lady at the desk (I wish I could remember her name to give her props), was sooo friendly and accommodating. She actually asked me what she could do to make my night better. I told her I could probably use a cocktail. I was... Read more

In my family. Grand Rapids Michigan is a often traveled destination and we often stay at the JW Marriott. 1.) The hotel is beautiful with beautiful views and clean beautiful views, and is connected to something called the 'Grand Rapids Habitrail' or something along those lines, and virtually you can get anywhere in Grand Rapids without going outside. 2.) The food and the brunch is great! The chef, Elvis, is amazing and nice. but 3.) because the JW is a hotel that is widespread around the gl... Read more

The JW Marriott is immaculate, upscale and just beautiful, conveniently located in downtown Grand Rapids close to sporting events, restaurants, bars, museums, and businesses. You can walk around downtown outside weather permitting, or you may use the indoor sky walk, which connects to almost everywhere in the downtown area including the Amway Hotel and Van Adel. The room was located on a high floor, very contemporary and had a beautiful view especially at night. This hotel is definitely a MUS... Read more

I had high expectations for this hotel. As a frequent traveler, I expect a certain level of service from the JW brand. However, from checkin to checkout, the experience was a disaster. I will certainly never stay at this location again or recommend it for future business Or leisure travel. The front desk staff were the primary cause of my heartache and disappointment. Unfortunately, there were a slew of other unfortunate events that occurred during my 24 hour stay. Front desk staff: Lacked c... Read more

I'm a very frequent business traveler. This JW is a fantastic hotel. This was my second stay and I will be back. The rooms are very comfortable, clean, and high end. The bar is fantastic. Love the views of the river. Service was great. Two thumbs up!

I would highly recommend this hotel for a business trip stay. It is very professional and clean. The view from the rooms and foyer is excellent. I will be reviewing the restaurant and bar separately, but I can say that those were both very good. The reason I would not give this hotel a 5 is because it did not exceed my expectations for the price. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.

I could not have asked for better service from every level of employee or at their fantastic 616 restaurant. Luxurious, modern and simply amazing hotel. They happily accommodated our large block of rooms and got our family on the same floor with nearby rooms.

My husband and I come to Grand Rapids and stay at the JW at least once a year. We love the hotel and the service is excellent. From the valet and the front desk to Mixology and the house keepers, they all aim to please. On this visit we did not eat at the in house restaurant 616, but we did have a great 616 Burger and soup and salad for lunch in the bar area (a must have lunch that we look forward to during every visit). On the weekends they have music in the lobby/bar area that the whole family... Read more

We stayed on the 13th floor with a view of the river. The windows are curved and provide a fantastic view of the river and Grand Rapids. The room was large and had a coffee station, mini fridge, and safe. The bathroom appeared newly renovated with a large shower and separate tub. The staff at check in were very friendly and efficient. We did not dine in the hotel, but enjoyed a jazz band playing in the lobby bar. The hotel is connected to the Amway and Devos Center by indoor walkways.

For Grand Rapids this is an expensive hotel. Possibly the most expensive on the west side of the state! While I enjoyed staying there, I was struck with all the excessive charges. For example, to park overnight is $24.99, if you valet, $29.99. The parking structure is 50 feet away. And a tip is expected. To compare, if you only have a meal, you get free parking with a restaurant stamp. So fewer people park overnight, but it's much more expensive. The restaurant is, or is nearly the most expensiv... Staying at this Marriott had some problems. My husband's & my room was very nice with a view of the river on the 13th floor. The staff at the front desk were terrific too. Our issues were with the reservation process and with the people who cleaned the room. I did write a letter and mailed it to the manager at the JW Marriott, Grand Rapids. I never got a response. My husband was there for a conference so we had to call to make the reservation. It could not be made online So far the... Read more

Top notch all around. Great staff in the concierge lounge. We were upgraded to a suite for being gold members, fantastic touch! We were very pleased all around. Wish the pool was larger but it does the job. We love that it has a steam room.
