Older hotel built to cater to visitors to the old General Motors Building across the street. When GM moved its HQ St. Regis lost business. The GM Building is now State offices. Rooms are old and relatively Spartan. The bed was comfortable. Linens clean. Housekeeping pretty good. TV was missing basic channels until I complained and got ESPN on time for the national championship game. Restaurant is awful. Service surly and slow. Enjoy telling you NO. Front desk staff seems a bit exa... Read more

I traveled to Detroit for business and chose the Hotel St Regis for its room rate on the days I was there. The auto show was happening, so many of the downtown hotels were sold out or had inflated rates for Detroit in January,. The St Regis is someone centrally located and about 15 minutes from the downtown area near the Cobo Center and Greektown in light traffic. I arrived in Detroit on a Sunday evening and got to the hotel about 7pm. The area of the city the hotel is in is called New City and... Read more

Stayed there New Years Eve. It was a little shabby, but acceptable. First warning was as we were checking in a guest was complaining to the desk of no hot water. The clerk was acting like they were the only one complaining. Our friends in another room were offered another room later because of hot water problems, but their hot water was fine. Ours, we found out in the morning, was not working. When we spoke to the desk, again they acted like no one else had that problem. A person walking by ... Read more

This would not be a first choice hotel. It is beautiful hotel but the rooms a lacking. There was 4 of us and only one person had hot water. The AC was broken and thankfully we were high up so we could leave the window open. The hallways are very noisy and the carpets need cleaning. It is not bad in a pinch if you can find it at a budget rate but it is not worth the full price to stay.

I really wanted to like this hotel. My check in went smoothly, my room was clean. However, I was there for 2 weeks for business. During these 2 weeks my room was either ice cold or literally 85 degrees. Because the building is so old, we had no control over the thermostat. As a matter of fact, even when I turned the system off, the heat still came through the vents. Needless to say, I along with a few others got colds while staying here. The water for the shower was non-existent in pressure. And... Read more

Stayed at this hotel in Detroit because it was convenient to the office I was visiting. The biggest issue with this property is that there are no amenities either in the hotel or nearby. There is a restaurant in the hotel, but the hours are limited. Given that there are really no restaurants in walking distance it would be helpful if they could stay open past 9 PM. Car or taxi required to get anywhere. Overall the place is clean but it is a little run down. Could use a makeover. Ripped fu... Read more

I had heard of the wonderful St. Regis for years, and finally had an opportunity to stay there this past weekend. Upon entry into the room the blinds were closed (which is rarely a good sign), and we quickly understood why. Room #208 faces out onto the heating/cooling units, but then the windows were so filthy it didn't even matter at that point. If you opened the window (no screen) you could literally step out onto the roof next door, which by judging by the cigarette butts that is exactly what... Read more

When we arrived it was dark, and we had a terribly difficult time figuring out which building was the St. Regis, as there were no easy to see markings for the hotel, and it was very poorly lit. We called the front desk attendant and she kindly helped us get where we needed to be. When we pulled up we were unsure what to do. There were no clear instructions posted, but we did not see neither a valet, nor a parking lot. So we kept driving and ended up finding a place to park which was apparently t... Read more

Our room, # 201 was average at best. A loose door handle, loose wallpaper, the ceiling in the bathroom was in need repair, the windows were dirty, there was no spare blanket, the heater was a bit noisy, and no matter how high we turned the temperature up it wouldn't go above 67 degrees. It was also, unfortunately, noisy in the hall as people were extremely rude, shouting and not shutting their room doors quietly. Our friends, who stayed in room 208, said their windows were dirty, the room/be... Read more
