Staff: I read a few reviews that mentioned rude staff members. We only stayed 1 night, but everyone we encountered was very nice and helpful, from Valet to check-in to the server in the bar to the random bellhop on the elevator. Marshall, here's your shout out. He's one of the Valet members. We asked him if he could get a cab for us to go to the Fox. He then left his post, walked us up 1 floor and out the other side of the hotel to a waiting area, where he then chased down a cab for us. Rooms:... Read more

Second time I've stayed a this hotel. It is convenient to downtown Detroit and the business district. Parking a little pricey at $25. Everyone was very friendly. Room was not huge, but it was comfortable and everything worked. Unique layout of my room allowed me to see to Lake St. Clair. My only recommendation, if you are very sensitive to light from the outside, is to avoid your room facing COBO. There is a very large jumbotron on COBO that blasts light into rooms facing it. After a myriad of issues, ranging from dirty rooms, poor room service, inedible food and service from restaurants and unprofessionalism from other staffers, I would have to rate this property 'POOR'. The Restaurant, Top of the Pontch, was absolutely the worst. It took us 32 minutes to have water brought to table and another 24 minutes to get breakfast drinks/food.The staff had to replace our silverware three times because it was dirty. When we opened the door to our room the initial view was a bit unexpected: looking straight at the toilet! But then we went into the main part of the room and what a fantastic view over the river into Canada. The room included a fridge and USB port. This is a nice property. The rooms are fine - the bathrooms a little small - so there isn't space for placing your toothbrush, razor etc. - but it is fine. Quiet. The people are very helpful. The location is great if you have business downtown. Walking distance to my client so no need even for a car. Then there is a people mover very convenient to getting to restaurants etc. On site restaurant has a great view and the food was very good.

When you are traveling for business, at times, there are bound to be some confusion and some mistakes made on booking. I can't thank Ruth Ann enough for being PROFESSIONAL and doing what it took to accommodate us and get us into our rooms when our booking department made a huge mistake. Beautiful hotel, right downtown Detroit. My teenager daughter and I stayed only one night to attend the amazing PTV concert the same night. We had the most amazing view from our room. Bed was so comfy, decor was elegant and classy. Staff was friendly and courteous. Free Wi-fi was fast. So nice to have valet parking for sure. Downfall, our room was in a corner and felt we were in a maze. For sure, we will stay here again.

I stayed in a room with a Detroit River view. The view was magnificent. The bathroom was ridiculously small. There was no bathtub. The shower was so small I banged something against a wall every time I showered. Walls were very thin. I could clearly hear neighbors' activities. The Crowne Plaza has a stunning renovated lobby with great style, friendly service, and cool architecture. The zig-zag building design with floor-to-ceiling windows mean that every room has a view in at least two directions. I got a corner room on a high floor (recommended) which gave me a sweeping view of the whole city. The hotel is next door to the convention centre, and a short walk from a good selection of bars and restaurants. Downtown Detroit is much livelier than it used to be, and I... Read more

A few weeks ago I was in Detroit for a very busy few days, and in flying out of Detroit after leaving my car behind in Windsor, I took the tunnel bus. We booked this room to be close to the COBO center -- it's right across the street to very convenient. Some challenges we had were being right across from the ice machine so we could hear that all night every time it was used. Great location right next to Cobo. Room was really good with a great view of the Detroit River. Very spacious. Liked the quiet floor approach. The Conceierge room was a fantastic touch. The areas for improvement are Commons areas. While the workout room is bigger than most, I'm not sure all of us want to be on full view. The lobby looks so sparse. Bar area needs massive upgrade.

It is pretty apparent the minute you walk into the lobby of this hotel that things are not going to go well. Step one was to put me in a "quiet zone" room across the street from an all-night, city-run road repair (in other words, a night of breaking out concrete). The hotel kindly moved me to a quieter room, but it was in bad shape: the thermostat didn't work, there were holes in the lamp shade, the baseboard was falling of the wall, the furniture is scratched and stained, and my personal favo... Be aware that they have a 4 hour window to check in. Apparently you have to be there to check in between 4pm and 8pm or they will give away your room. It doesn't matter that you guaranteed it with a credit card, or that no where on the confirmation does it say this. If it had my husband, who was about an hour from the hotel, would have gone there before 8 to check in and then come to the airport to pick us up. I have never had a hotel do this, and we literally live in hotels all across the ... Read more

We loved our stay at this hotel. Everybody at the front desk was really courteous and helpful. And everybody went out of their way to make our stay very comfortable. One nice employee even walked us to the restaurant that we wanted to find downtown. When we asked for some maintenance in our bathroom, the maintenance person came within 10 minutes and fixed the problem. Very courteous and professional. The restaurant on the 25th floor has a fabulous view, and we ate there three times for din... Read more

Our airbnb cancelled on us last minute so we booked a room here. We were looking for a place that we could get to the Fox Theatre from that had average amenities, secure parking and wasn't too expensive. We got a room there. It ended up being 2 beds although I could have sworn that we requested one bed. But whatever, we slept on one and watched tv on the other.;) The room and bathroom were clean. The swimming pool and hot tub were nice, although the hot tub jets were broken while we were there a... Read more

Great hotel, the views from the hotel rooms were great, the stuff was very professional and courteous the bed was very comfortable. The only negative part about the hotel is the $25 dollar daily parking. The price should be lower for guests.

Stayed on the 9th floor, comfortable room with all the amenities you would expect for this class of hotel. Wifi and A/C worket well, A/C somewhat noisy . Rooms and Lobby are somewhat dated, however. Overall this hotel still looks good but it will need a major renovation in the not too distant future if it wants to keep up with the competition. The $45 flat fee ride to the airport offered by the hotel is less expensive than a taxi ride and might be justified during the week, but is exorbitant on ... Read more

Overall all it was a nice room with a great view but the room and the bathroom were both very small. There was some broken glass on the floor near a corner in the bathroom and the glass to the shower had come unattached... I felt that should have been cleaned and fixed. My room was reserved as 2 double beds but they gave me a room with only one double bed and told me there was nothing I could do about it because they were filled to capacity, and they blamed it on me booking my room through a dis... Stayed one night at Crowne Plaza to attend a dinner celebration next door at Cobo Hall. Hotel is great location if you are attending an event at Cobo or nearby Joe Louis Arena. No clear sign as where to unload for guests just arriving. Found an unloading zone sign near hotel but it didn't say it meant hotel guests. Valet parking only at $25 a night. Bell help for luggage assistance was good. Room was on corner with a nice view towards Cobo and a view across the river to Canada. We stayed ... Read more

Stayed here during the Detroit Free Press Marathon weekend as a race participant. The hotel itself is lovely, modern, elegant, and clean. The room was small, but this is a historic hotel and building, so it's not the same as a new building. The room overlooked the city and partial riverfront, with plenty of light. The bathroom shower stall was pretty small (again, historical building) but tastefully restored with subway tiles. In room coffee and fridge. Upon check in, I inquired if we could have... Read more

Front Desk Service was Great...Willie was awesome with our luggage suggestions for restaurants and ordering of Pizza Places. Maid service really shouldn't start knocking on our door @ 9 to come in and clean they should wait until later or at least hit the check out rooms first. The room was nice for what we needed but the cable went out during the big game so we missed that and the tub wouldn't hold water for a bath... And starbucks was out of everything was not impressed! This was a great visit, the front desk people was very nice ad get me a nice upgrade to a suite, the view of the Detroit river was just amazing and to make things even better a new destroyer was being release and and was just a great added bonus to e able to see it from the room. Very happy with the valet service and all the people that make the room truly enjoyable. After you see the pictures from the room, just think how incredible will be this room on the 4 of July for fireworks.

On the elevator officer Kim Dewberry over heard my conversation with my friend and offered to drive me back so I wouldn't walk in the dark in the middle of the night I was truly blessed with officer Dewberry kindness and consideration for driving me back to ... This hotel is in a very convenient location in downtown Detroit being next to the COHO center, Joe Louis Arena, and the 24 hour people mover. A short walk to the people mover gets you to all sorts of great venues and restaurants. The hotel has a great restaurant on the top floor, a very good bar on the first floor and a nice bar menu for snacks.

The room was clean, except the bottom of the armoire was a bit dusty. The room was a comfortable size and the linen and towels immaculate. I enjoyed the hospitality hour in the 24th floor restaurant and the wait staff was friendly and helpful.

The view was wonderful from our room, we could see across the river. The staff were very helpful, and pleasant. That was one of the few times I actually slept comfortably in a hotel. We were up for a college visit and I know where I am staying if my daughter decides to go there.

You can't beat the location! Steps from the people ,over, cobo center and river front. We were on the 7th floor with a river view. Nice clean room, great view, small bathroom but enough room to do what you have to. Bed was comfortable and the staff was so nice and accommodating. The restaurant on the top floor was pretty pricey, but the atmosphere was romantic. The only bad thing I can say is the only parking they have there is valet parking and you have to pay 25 dollars a day. Other than that ... Read more

The lobby of the hotel is absolutely beautiful but when we got up to our room, they fell short of our expectations. The room was extremely tight and outdated. It was so small that you couldn't open the bathroom door and door to the room at the same time. We almost stepped on two different needles that were left on the floor. When we arrived in the room the temp was set at 80 degrees and it took an hour and a half to get down to 73. Other than the quality of the room, the service was absolutely ... Read more

While some of the rooms are beginning to show their age (lamps not working, loose slipcovers), the reception and common areas were stellar. The staff were some of the friendliest and most helpful I've ever encountered. A large group of my co-workers "invaded" the bar after a hard day of work, and quickly overloaded the waiters. The problem was noted, and pretty soon several additional staff were scrambling to accommodate the crowd. I would have liked a larger bathroom, but towels were plentif... Read more
