We have had the occasion to stay at The Townsend several times over the last couple of years when we are in town to see family. Most recently, my wife held a wedding tea for our daughter who is getting married in June and Laura Klein took great care of the ladies from her initial work with Jo, to the tea itself. Bradley at the front door, and all of the valet guys are very cordial and helpful at all stops. From the reservations folks to Joseph, they make sure our stay is top drawer. Our dog,... Read more

I have been traveling for business every week for nearly 8 years and have never stayed at a hotel with such bad noise control than the Townsend. Me and my wife stayed there for the first time about a year ago for our wedding. The whole night we stayed for our wedding night we could hear a baby crying in the room next door. I am a pretty deep sleeper, however, I woke up several times. My wife is not and stayed up the whole evening. Fortunately management understood and comped our next stay. Fast... Read more

Why would you stay anywhere else if you have the opportunity to stay at the Townsend? The Townsend is a gem in Birmingham, MI. Service is utterly impeccable, starting with the general manager Steven Kaczynski, who promotes a culture wherein staff is attentive to all needs of the client. The hotel is also beautiful and combines the perfect balance between the intimacy of a boutique hotel, while offering amenities found in larger hotels.

Staff was fantastic. Room was very well kept. Bathtub was ideal for a couple on their anniversary. Overall, this is the single greatest hotel experience of our lives. I would highly recommend the Townsend Hotel to anyone. Also, they have a Michigan Staycation package among other specials. This is a thoughtful way to encourage folks to take some time away. The accommodations provide a wonderful atmosphere, and make a wonderful trip.

Bellmen had my room key ready and handed it to me as I walked in (I am a repeat customer, they know me now). Everyone does everything they can to make this a memorable trip. Front desk is ultra friendly, and the mattresses are ultra comfortable. Curtains make the room super dark if you want it, and the wake up calls and alarms work perfect to get you up in time. Growing up in suburban Detroit, I've always known The Townsend's reputation. It was indeed a wonderful experience. Great shopping, hair salons, walking, gorgeous homes in the neighborhood, and not far from Detroit, where you can have a great vacation biking, art tours, eating! Be sure to ask if there are any special rates when making your reservations. Online the rate showed nearly $100 more per night than we paid with their holiday special.

Absolutely the best hotel in Michigan; the only thing comparable would be a Four Seasons, but none in Michigan. Everybody in the hotel is first class for service and attitude. Also, a special treat for us was an upgrade to President Suite -- what a nice surprise at check-in. Don't stay anywhere else when in Detroit or Detroit area.

Great hotel and staff, excellent beds and pillows. Close to a lot of great restaurants and shops. If you have a business that needs a great place to host your event. This is the place. The food that was served for the business lunches and cocktail hour was great.

Excellent facility with superb and professional staff. The price is a bit above average, but the service is well worth it. Every employee we encountered was extremely pleasant and always willing to assist. Even their uniforms were impeccable.

We reviewed many hotels in the Detroit area for a meeting we were having with 55 of our member companies. By far, this was the best hotel hands down and the best move we made. Five star does not even come close to the experience you will have at The Townsend. The staff literally trips over themselves to ensure your comfort. To me it rivals The American Club in Kohler, Wisconsin - which is another class hotel.

Best location in Birmingham and a classy hotel with high standards. However a bit stuffy in my view and feels more to attract another range of people. Good but terrify expensive breakfast which sort reflects the average price range. Close to all restaurants and city life.

We were in town for a high school reunion. The Townsend is absolutely the only place to stay! It is in walking distance of everything in this truly walkable town. People are walking (usually with small dogs) at all hours. It is safe and comfortable to walk anywhere. The rooms are large and comfortable with terrific amenities. The staff is friendly and willing to help. The hotel is quiet and in the perfect location. We would not consider staying anywhere else.

This was my 3rd time and last time staying at the Townsend. When I made the reservation they incorrectly booked me for a double instead of a king. When I got the confirmation email and saw it was wrong I called and they said they were sold out. Unacceptable. While they did change it to a king upon arrival I didn't need the stress before my arrival. As far as my stay, while the rooms are nicely appointed you can hear loud music blasting at 1:00-2:00am when there's an event there. I called to comp... Read more

We missed these plans, and had to drive around for an hour until it was ready because the staff said there was no other room available and didn't offer any other solution, not even that there was a lounge we could have waited in....the room was ok when I was finally allowed in, however the elevator needs a total overhaul....again, terrible experience

The Townsend is the very best of all of the 4 and 5 star hotels in which we have stayed in this country and in Europe. If I had the option to give 6 stars, I would -- especially for sleep quality. The staff is extraordinary. I told my family whom I was visiting in the area, that I was going to come to The Townsend for a week, just stay there, and not call anyone.
