The staff were efficient, friendly and welcoming. The two double bed room we had was perfect. It had a refrigerator which helped with storing our goodies we bought during the day. People come from miles around to their cocktail hour in the lounge at night because of the view. Their New England Clam Chowder was better than the restaurants in the downtown area. I would recommend sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch for awhile. Loved it!

Great location and a beautiful property. Chose an ocean view room if possible. The town of Edgartown is the nicest on the island. Take your car if possible, otherwise there is a very efficient bus service connecting all towns.

We had a wonderful time while staying at the Harbor View Hotel in Martha's Vineyard. The staff were extremely friendly and the hotel is just beautiful. It's an easy walk to the Edgartown Lighthouse and right across from the bay. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage and it was very spacious and relaxing.

We came to this hotel as my husband was attending a Harvard medical conference and extended it to a little couples getaway. The hotel has a grand sweeping verandah with lots of chairs from which you can stare at the ocean and the Edgartown lighthouse. The lighthouse has also become a memorial for the children from the island who have died. Each year families gather to remember and celebrate the lives of their children. This area of beach is also great for kite flying. Our room 302 in the main b... Read more

Our room was very nice. It was a good size with a balcony and a comfy big bed. The only negatives were the shower was not very powerful and the massive tree outside our room at the side of the hotel prevented us seeing hardly any view at all. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and the breakfasts were great. The location was wonderful, looking out to Edgartown lighthouse.

The island is beautiful, relaxing and expensive. The rooms are spacious and light. The grounds are well maintained. Everyone is friendly and polite. But expectations are a little different here. The population goes from about 20,000 most of the year to about 250,000 in the summer. That includes many college age employees for the summer. So the details of service are not always perfect. We had no expectation that our room would be ready, and it wasn't. But we did a "soft" check in and they took our bags for us. In short: Pros - great setting/position, rooms were a good size, staff were very friendly, hotel felt cozy. Cons - although pool area was nice, there were not enough sun beds for everyone. Fortunately, I spent most of my time in the pool with the kids but if I needed a sunbed, they were severely limited in number. I would definitely recommend this hotel to couples and/or families. Toward the end of the season the grand Harbor View is showing its wear. The food was great and the people very friendly, but the A/C was not working until our last day. The higher occupancy rate during the holiday weekend appeared to stretch the available staff.

Spent 2 nights in the Captain Abraham Osborne cottage. It was absolutely beautiful, comfortable and perfect. Washer and dryer, great shower, comfy bed, nice separate living area, Galley kitchen, cute porches with chairs. Wished we had friends with us to entertain there! Kelly at the front desk went above and beyond re: our accommodations, personally delivered a cheese tray to accompany the wine we purchased even though room service was technically over as we were out of season. Enjoyed a wonderful anniversary weekend at the beautiful historic hotel. The hotel is located across the street from the gorgeous Edgartown Lighthouse and has a grand front porch, complete with rocking chairs overlooking the lighthouse and the harbor. The location is perfect, a short walk into town near restaurants and shops. The staff was friendly, especially the knowledgable concierge Darlene. Her suggestions was creative and perfect, they made our trip a success ! Henry's the on-site pub offe... Read more

Wonderful staff, superb location and our preferred time of the year equal a great time. Property in main hotel (particularly in the hallways) is showing its age but the place has great rooms and good amenities included heated pool, bikes, workout room, wifi, restaurants and room service. Off season prices make it a great choice. No need to go for rooms with a view. Save money and have your coffee or drink on their beautiful front porch in their comfy rocking chairs. Granted it is a beautiful hotel with great views and a great location. My husband and I arrived just in time for check in but were told our room was not ready and they were really busy and did not know when we would get in. We had traveled all day to get there and were tired and hungry. We were not allowed into our room until well after 5 pm. The lady at the desk was not pleasant. Another staff member took pity on us and got us a complimentary drink. Then we got into our room and the bathr... Read more

My family of 5 travelled from NY to Boston in August staying at 6 hotels along the way. The Harbor View being the worst. The location is indeed beautiful and our first impressions were good. Lovely front porch with rocking chairs and the lounge area bright, white and clean. We were told that we would be telephoned when our room was ready. We got no phone call and I had to go and ask. At 5 pm we got our room cards for 2 rooms. We had rooms in the Governor Mayhew Building. The stairs leading to o... Read more

We began our trip on October 9th and rolled back home on October 19th. Some special thanks go to AAA in Lincoln, Nebraska, Paula, for arranging a wonderful route. Also kudos to Hilton Honors for their help, these folks will go above and beyond to help with the lodging. We spent 6 of the nights in Hampton Inns. Everyone were clean, modern, friendly, easy to find and reasonable priced with great free breakfasts. Our first stop was Springfield, IL. We stayed in the Doubletree downtown and I must s... We just came across for the weekend. We've been here a couple times before and the location is quite special. You can sit on the porch looking across the channel and tune the world out. I happen to get a discounted room this time so we were not in the main building for the first time. Room was large and spotless but some smallish things to be aware of. If you need to level furniture in a room you really should use something a little more attractive than folded pieces of paper under the legs ... Read more

I've always loved Harborview and when it came time to plan our mini-moon, a one night getaway after our wedding I knew this would be the best spot! We arrived and were kindly given an upgrade to an amazing room! (It was a Monday in the shoulder season) We couldn't have had a nicer stay. It was special and the entire staff was kind. Sitting on the front porch, enjoying a delicious burger,...it was just perfect! Thank you Harborview for exceeding our expectations and making our stay so special!!!!

Visited after Oct 15th so everything was limited... restaurant, surrounding activities, etc. Also, some room key issues and heating issues, BUT staff was EXTREMELY RESPONSIVE in addressing all. Would stay again; food in the bar-restaurant was good.

This hotel is amazing. The rooms are fine. Have exactly what you need and are comfortable. But the real wow here is the building itself and where it is. It sits in the prime location opposite the edgartown lighthouse and you could sit on the porch all afternoon just admiring the view. They have rocking chairs for you to sit on as you enjoy the view. It's a short stroll into the picturesque town with shops and restaurants. Everything here is a bit expensive but to be honest so is everything on th... Read more

Like most frequent visitors to the Vineyard, we had checked out the bar and restaurant at the Harbor View many times. The ground floor public rooms are a classy respite from the crowded streets of Edgartown in season. But the two night minimum and higher prices kept us from staying overnight during the summer. In April we did an off season visit and booked a terrific room directly above the front porch, with a stunning view of the harbor and Chappy beyond. My wife had previously stayed in the a... I was a recent guest at the beautiful Harbor View Hotel. It was off season, so the rates were more affordable for me, and there were no crowds to contend with. The room was very spacious and immaculate, with the service being superb. The hotel was grand in all ways. I dined at the restaurant in the hotel and had their lobster roll. YUMMY!!! There was a warm fire to sit by and enjoy the company of others in the lobby. The staff were all very kind and gracious. A special thumbs up to "ZACH... Read more

Just came back from spending Thanksgiving at this hotel. This was our second stay. Impressive. Under the Scout Hotel organization this property continues to evolve into a top notch resort. This time around we were very impressed with Henry,s Hotel Bar. Wednesday night they got swamped with people and we watched the staff go into overdrive to get everyone served and taken care of. We also enjoyed the Thanksgiving buffet with our Vineyard relatives.

The staff is super nice, location is perfect. Don't miss the chance to walk along the beach and walk to "town." The hotel's situation within the nice neighborhood makes you feel like you belong there --- like a home away from home.

The Harbor View is situated in a beautiful water-view location in Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, Mass. The accommodations include luxurious hotel rooms in the main building; very nicely appointed (mini-fridge, robes, etc.) rooms in the Gov. Mayhew building; and beautiful one-bedroom Captain's Cottage luxury suites. Our party of 12 were spread among all there. The Harbor View is truly the "Grand Dame" of Vineyard hotels. I am so disappointed with our recent stay at the Harbor View. We love the vineyard and spend 10 days at a friends home each summer. this was an anniversary trip for me and my husband. we were so excited to arrive at a location that we were sure would make our time completely memorable but unfortunately it fell short-- very short! we had a tv that didn't work for 3 straight days. we informed the front desk and were told they were working on it yet it was never fixed or acknowledged again.
