We stay at the Essex StreetbInn often when we travel to Newburyport. We love the downtown location. You can walk to everything!!! The rooms are all unique, as well as the buildings. The staff is great! We always have a great stay!

Just arrived at the Essex Street Inn and I love it. We are on the 3rd floor in a cozy room. It is bright and has a skylight a comfortable bed and just enough space. We were welcomed be the front desk with a smile and the scent of fresh baked cookies. I am so happy I selected this Inn for our Mothers day weekend.I am already planning my next trip here. I would highly recommend this place for your next visit to Newburyport.

We booked a slightly larger room this time. Ask for a room on either side of the check in desk. It was terrific as were the staff who made us feel so welcome. You can't beat this location to walk everywhere.

The Essex Street Inn & Suites is located in the heart of downtown Newburyport. You can just park your car and walk around this old sea-faring city. The room was on the smaller side, but well kept and nicely decorated. My room was located on the top of the stairs, so it was relatively noisy since there was a lot of foot traffic that went by.

Very bad bed (noisy). They didn´t clean the room in 6 days, they just made the beds and took the trash and towels (first day they even didn´t make that). Breakfast is very poor. Too much noise around the room because of air conditioning machines outside Standard rooms had no closet and had very very small bathroom. We had to upgrade the room because it was too small for 3 people. Very good location

We visit Newburyport every year or two to catch up with family and friends. We love the friendly staff, comfortable surroundings, and perfect downtown location! We love the convenience of leaving our car in their parking lot and walking to great restaurants, shops, and the waterfront day or night. The rates are also competitive with regular hotels/motels nearby. We do have a couple suggestions though: wall mounted magnifyer makeup mirror and a bigger storage shelf (pedestal sink and over the toil... Read more

We had an absolutely awesome weekend at the Essex Street Inn in Newburyport. The room was quaint, clean and the jacuzzi tub was perfect. The location is the best part, so convenient to downtown! We will be back.

Great place, great location in a very nice town; we had room issues (a/c did not work), & they were so gracious. Upgraded us to a bigger room at no charge; breakfast was very nice, lots of available coffee & water during the day. A lovely inn, woud stay there again--highly recommended!

I can only give 3 stars to this lovely Inn because I feel there are some really important things missing. We got our room at the last minute so all that was left was a queen bedroom that would have been ok, but the closet was in the bathroom! The room was nicely furnished and very bright and clean, however I think it would be nice to have something posted on how to use the air conditioner and when the hours were for breakfast. Although everyone was very nice I never felt the warmth that usuall... Read more

Booked this inn for relatives coming to town. They hated it. No amenities (no closet), bare bones, cold cereal breakfast. You get nothing for your money, except the location. It's the cheapest bed and breakfast located in town and there's a reason for it.

We were meeting here for a show and stayed here for one evening. I'd arrived a bit early and they were gracious enough to receive me earlier than expected. They have a parking lot behind their buildings which was a relief because I didn't want to have to go searching for parking. There are two buildings side by side, the main house which is where they serve their breakfast and you check in. Then, they have the house next door which appears to be newer on the renovation scale. Both were lovely, a... Read more

Close to all, lovely old house/inn, beautiful historic neighborhood. Breakfast is a cold one but decent - get there on the earlier side on weekends. Our room was small, simple, but adequate, with the usual complaint of no place to put anything, either a 2nd suitcase or ditty bag. The bed was very comfy but the bottom sheet too small and would not stay on the corners and was not made the next day - covers just pulled up but maybe I did that.... We got clean towels but the bed remained undone. Ot... Read more

Booked this place last minute, it did not disappoint!!!! Great location, walk to everything in town! Fantastic room, quaint, bed/breakfast feel, CLEAN, great decor! Continental breakfast was decent, it's offered what you would expect with that! Remember, it is an INN. Not a big chain hotel. We loved it. Would stay again!!

Stayed here for three nights, and really enjoyed my stay at Essex Street Inn. Its located in an historic building with squeaky carpeted floors, and abstemious furnishings. The room I stayed in was spacious and clean, the bed was big and comfortable. The hotel is located in central in NBP, within walking distance to many restaurants, bars and cafés. Lovely town - really nice hotel.

The Essex Street Inn in not a B&B. It's really a small hotel. They have three old adjacent houses along the street, with parking in the back. We had a very nice weekend in Newburyport, and found the Essex Street Inn comfortable and VERY convenient. We parked the car in back of the inn and never needed it again until ready to leave for home. You can walk to everything in town that a tourist would want to see, including plenty of restaurants, the waterfront, and the local history museum (worth see... Read more

A friend booked several rooms for her wedding. We were looking forward to a wonderful time with friends we haven't seen in years. What was suppose to be a great few days turned into a nightmare. While the inn is in a convenient location, the overall experience was terrible. 90+ degrees during the day, hot and humid. We look forward to cooling off in our room....NOT HAPPENING. Set air condition in room to 64 and it never got below 75, at worst it was 85. You can't open windows for nightly breeze... Read more

This lovely inn is well-located in the historic downtown of Newburyport and offers that small town rarity: off-street parking. The rooms are spacious and it??s excellent location means you can leave your car and stroll the downtown with ease. My room (103) was a very large with a super comfortable king-size bed, lovely pillows and bedding. The large bathroom had a good shower over bath with nice towels. The continental breakfast buffet was nice with a good selection. The (limited) onsite par... Read more

We stayed two nights at the Essex Street Inn. We were in town for a wedding. If I could give half a star I would rate it 3.5. I would have no problem staying here again. Pros: Great location with off-street parking. The place was clean. The breakfast was fine, it won't knock your socks off, but if you want a coffee and a quick snack it was adequate. The staff were all very nice. Cons: The building is old/historic so there are some compromises in amenities. No elevator (that I saw), st... Read more

I needed two beds but couldn't be too choosy when booking last minute. My friend and I decided to go for the queen bed and stay at the Essex Street Inn and be right in the heart of town. When we got there, we were pleasantly surprised that the room was quite large, decorated very nicely and super clean. I had brought an air mattress and set it up with room to spare. My friend and I are a bit "odd couple" so the best thing about our room was the additional sink area outside of the bathroom wh... Read more

We have been staying at Essex Street Inn since 1988. We have stayed in many different types of rooms and all have been comfortable and immaculately clean. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. The breakfast has grown in size and variety over the years, and is very good. The Inn is 1/2 block from downtown shops and restaurants, so one can park the car and spend the rest of your stay on foot.

Stayed here while attending a wedding. Great location in Newburyport. The rooms are very well maintained and clean. Beds are very comfortable. Even the pull-out couch in the Queen Suite is great for sleeping. Parking in this area can be challenging. Front desk was very helpful in explaining the Newburyport parking rules.

First of all I am a senior woman; after I was rudely thrown out of the Garrison Inn (for writing a bad review), I stayed at the Essex Street Inn for one night; and had a positive experience. We had a wonderful stay at the Essex Street Inn for a weekend in late October. We stayed in the Bridal Suite, which included a wood burning fireplace, full kitchen, living room, and large jacuzzi tub. Check-in was easy and parking was plentiful behind the buildings so we did not need to worry about street parking. There are bars, coffee shops, and restaurants all along High Street, so the location was great. The continental breakfast had bagels, eggs, yogurt, juice, coffee, tea, etc, and gave us... Read more
