One arrival the check in was not welcoming . The shower over the bath was hopeless , the shower curtain would stick to you as you showered and very small bathroom with very poor lighting . There is no tea , coffee or kettle in your room. There is a dress code in all the hotel restaurants , you can not wear sport shoes or clothing . We were not sure if that meant Nike walking shoes which we had on and needed to wear, as we went out on day tours most days. Not a hotel to stay in if you want and ex... Read more

We used to live in Boston and had drinks in the bar sometimes. We loved the old worldly feel and old fashioned service. When we came back for a visit my husband really wanted to stay here. I was less keen after reading some reviews but he won so we stayed here for 3 nights in June The good Location cannot be beaten. I loved the location, directly across from the park. for a busy street corner, it was surprisingly quiet. No sound between rooms. Anyone wanting to take a walk or jog, the location and view from the room make it inviting. Large rooms, too. Plus, I arrived early, around 12:30pm, and the gave me an early check in.

We chose the Taj as it is situated near he underground and also Boston gardens which are lovely. The room was very spacious and very clean. There was not only cleaning of the room in the morning but there was also a turn down service at night. The bathroom was a good size and tiled throughout to a very high standard. If required they supplied kettle and tea and coffee. All in all very nice would highly recommend. They did have a bath butler which we didn't use.

Average amenities for price point, personnel polite but not outstanding for a luxury type property. Would compare with other properties in the area before booking next time. Location seems to drive demand along with need for business meeting space. Requests for additional service for the room went unattended which was disappointing. Daily service was fine. Not a lot of restaurant choices in immediate blocks surrounding that I found.

Stayed in a suite which gave us space for an extra rollaway bed and also sitting and dining areas. Lots of space and great storage. Really comfy bed. Staff were friendly and helpful. A kettle in the room would have been nice but one was quickly provided. And the bathroom was a tad on the small side. But these are small negatives compared to the positives. Classy hotel with character. The perfect situation for exploring. And close to lots of choices for dining.

This is a property that presents itself as a 4-star, premium property. But this hotel is seriously showing it's age and I think it's coasting on the fact that it used to be a Ritz Carlton. My complaints: - It's hot. Visited when the temps were in the 90s. Seemed like there was no AC in the hallways. The AC in my room was weak and the thermostat had 2 settings (hot/cold) ... so you couldn't really crank the AC. - It shows its age. The furniture in my room was scuffed and worn. Built as a Ritz Carlton, now owned by another chain. Location is the strongest attribute. Breakfasts were very expensive, bland. Mini fridge packed with overpriced minibar items. No convenience shop. Stayed here with a conference and dined elsewhere. Easy to take the T everywhere. The room was huge. Spotty wifi. Comparable to a lot of Boston hotels, but not outstanding.

The staff were the nicest people, the amenities and rooms were outstanding, and when we requested to switch rooms in order to be closer to the bridal suite (we were part of wedding party) it was done in record time and help. Five stars!! The hotel is right across the street from Boston Public Garden, providing amazing views of downtown. It is also close to the T and borders Newbury Street to make shopping ... Read more

Excellent hotel, great location to many things. Right accross the street for the commons. Newberry , Boylston and Commonwealth Ave "back bay area " have everything. Charles river not far either. Can also get a stretch of the legs in by walking to MIT or Harvard. Go to the Prudential's top of the Hub for the view and drinks !

I cannot say enough about the people at the Taj! We had 2 small issues, but in no way did they overshadow the entire experience. Each member of the staff met us with a smile and a helpful attitude. We stayed in one of the Executive Bedroom Suites with the Interior View and WOW! If you can make this work for your trip I would suggest it. It has a small dining room, living room, and bedroom which I would assume makes it great for a family. Each night we had a fire fixed free of charge, and it made... Read more

My husband and I stayed at the Taj when we received an amazing deal on a hotel booking site. We were at another hotel prior to our stay at the Taj, and arriving here was a breath of fresh air. The lobby and room are very high end and the staff are very pleasant. Our room looked out over the Commons and the view was stunning. We enjoyed some time in the bar and the staff and service were very good. The only reason why this was not a five star stay was that our mattress was a dire need of repla... Read more

Had another great stay in Boston at my favorite hotel, The Taj. Room was overlooking the park and had great views, and very comfortable.Found a new and good addition in the room, the power ports which are very useful. The location for me is undoubtedly the best in Boston. The Staff were great, friendly and helpful. Always a pleasure to stay at the Taj.

The Taj Boston, formerly the Ritz, overlooks the Public Gardens. It is tastefully and formally furnished. Service is generally excellent, as is the food. It suffers a bit from age--old, small bathrooms (albeit refurbished with nice beige marble, Molton Brown toiletries, and big fluffy towels). Rooms are comfortable but not enormous, but the heating and cooling system is primitive, annoying and hard to control to a comfortable temp. A good location for taking walks through the Gardens and th... Read more

The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to most areas. Check-in was quick and efficient and the rooms are tasteful and quite large.( bathroom on the small side). My one issue with the rooms are the interconnecting door between bedrooms. We were woken at one thirsty in the morning to the room next door making constant noise. The doors may as well not be there as sound travelled straight through. I would however still recommend the hotel

This stay was for work but the hotel was fabulous and I'll definitely be back for pleasure and book a room with the wood-burning fireplace. The location was perfect, bed was extremely comfortable and I enjoyed the warm cozy feeling in the bar.

The bathroom is very small as is the bath towels, the toiletries are Molten Brown & the bed comfy. The location is perfect but I was disappointed in the fact that I emailed them to say it was my birthday the day after we arrived , they had put some chocolates in the room on arrival although no upgrade. We could not have a late checkout due to the fact that they were full but not a lot of seating downstairs & when we enquired if there was a room where we could sit we were informed that there is a ... When the Ritz was sold to the Taj things seemed pretty much the same in the bar in the hotel. It was always one of our fav places to sip a drink overlooking the Public Gardens. The atmosphere was quiet and elegant. Over the years the Taj bar has become crowded and noisy and the old world feel is gone. They've installed high tables such as you'd see in casual sports bars and restaurants. The waiters attire is more casual, I feel it's only a matter of time before it becomes a sports bar. Suc... Excellent overall impression apart from our room not being ready when checking in. We had to stick to our guns to ensure we had a room with a view as opposed to an interior view (even though we had paid for a view for the 5 nights). Other than that everyone was so helpful & polite. Highly recommended.

This beautiful Boston hotel was an absolute treat to stay in, from start to finish. Our room on the eleventh floor facing the Public Garden had an amazing view and was very comfortable and spacious. The staff, from reception to the concierge and bar were all helpful and polite. The location is fantastic, and within the hotel the art deco features have been beautifully preserved. I already look forward to a return visit someday.

Wonderful older property with modern updates. Elegant, large room and very quiet. All amenities were first class. Our only complaints concerned the wattage of the light bulbs in the bathroom and the hefty charge for overnight parking. The location is wonderful--next to the Boston Gardens which adjoin the Boston Commons.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Taj! All of the staff were professional, friendly, efficient, helpful and attentive. Our room was lovely; breakfast and dinner in The Café was delicious; and Tea at The Taj was as beautiful as it was tasty! Fresh flowers throughout the hotel were gorgeous and such a nice touch.

What can I say. This has been our fifth visit in three years to the Taj and this one has been as poor as the others were excellent. Hard to put my finger on it but the understated old school hotel service has been replaced by haphazard encounters with staff and facilities. Without going into details there has been a variety of niggling issues from surprise charges on my credit card to almost comically bad service in the cafe for breakfast. For example on Saturday morning at breakfast we waite... Read more

If there were 6 stars, I would list that for this hotel. This is my second time staying at The Taj Boston and both experiences were impeccable. I have stayed at other hotels with similar stature in Boston, and this hotel is by far the best in quality and class. My first stay was hosting a Bachelorette party for my best friend's wedding and all the ladies were very impressed. This past stay was for leisure and we got upgraded to a wonderful suite. Start with the positive - the staff was unfailingly helpful, polite, resourceful and very pleasant. They are one of the bright spots of this property! Also, great location and decor. Also, the bed was extremely comfortable. However, there were several problems. Our luggage took 1.5 hours to be delivered to our room. We had a lovely two night visit to the Taj. Ate Thanksgiving in the ballroom. Enjoyed the fitness room. Our room was comfortable and attractive. It was extremely quiet (didn't hear noise from the hallway or the other rooms -- that's old-time building specs for you!). The only hiccup was the service in the bar -- I suspect they used less senior wait staff over the holiday, as the server seemed pretty clueless. Otherwise a wonderful stay.

Hotel is showing its age , but well maintained and service was excellent. It's age is part of the charm! The location could not be better. I do not think I have ever slept that well in a hotel. Be advised that they have 29 suites with wood burning fireplaces and if that smell bothers you, you may want to stay elsewhere.

We stayed at this hotel for a night and this was by far the worst stay in a Taj property that we have ever had. I redeemed ~5000 of my membership points - this would have gotten me about 5 nights at a reasonably good Taj property in India. However, I decided to make this booking since this was a special occassion for my wife and me. However, except for the welcome and departure, every single aspect of our stay at this hotel was terrible. The room was very tiny and the bathroom particularly was v... Read more
