D.C. hotels are pricey in April, so Days Inn Silver Spring sounded like a good deal at $100 per nite and accessible from Metro's Red Line trains. But my non-smoking room had the smell of smoke, roaches and air-conditioning that cut in and out. At check-out, the manager promised that they would do better next time.

Cockroaches everywhere! I killed at least 15 in my room . I will NEVER stay here again! It was almost impossible to hear the clerk through the bullet proof glass or I would have complained.

As other reviewers have mentioned - you get what you pay for. As a small female, I felt very unsafe staying here. The front desk area is behind bulletproof glass. They have bugs. Please see photos of my hand. The least of my concerns but worthy of a mention - the Internet was very spotty. Didn't work most of my stay. This place is dirty and unsafe. Will not be back.

Quite frankly I don't understand how this hotel is still in business. I made the mistake of not reading reviews before booking. If I did, I could have spared myself one of the worst travel weeks of my career. I travel all the time for my job and I have stayed in many places - various brands. In my short week (which felt like an eternity) I managed to kill 3 cockroaches. I was listed by momma mouse and several baby mice. One of which took residence in my clothes: in the drawer. I have stayed in many Days Inn hotels including in Canada and this was the worst among them. I was bitten by bedbugs or termites and changed my room because of it and then bitten again. I believe that this is because of the not well taken care of furniture. Additionally, entire hotel smells bad. I had to hold my breath because of the stench in the hallway. This hotel MUST NOT be part of Days Inn hotel chain. If it will, I am not staying in Days Inn anymore.

The windows where you check in are thicker than the bank windows!! There was a sign saying you could see the room first but if you didn't see it, and checked in, you were stuck with it. I had asked for a handicap room and thankfully, it wasn't. I would have not have had an excuse not to stay and probably would have been charged for leaving. It was very creepy when I went at 9pm. I'll never try to save money again. It felt very unsafe even though there was a security guard. Desk clerk was ver... Read more

The lobby was nice but our room and my sisters was old, worn down, dirty and many things were not working. When we complained to management they said they would fix it (light bulbs out), I had to go back and complain again 2 hours later. next morning we discovered the shower rod was broken and curtain stayed iin center of rod, splashing water everywhere. Again management said they would fix it. Not while we were there. Also hair dryer was broken and socket where it plugged in had exposed wire. P... Read more

The only redeeming quality was that the wifi worked well. Full of questionable stains and obvious lapses in maintenance. Not enough working outlets. Don't count on using the fridge, microwave or coffee machine. Shower was pretty nasty also, and the whole room smelled.

The first thing I noticed was that the front desk was completely covered by plexiglass glass. The guy at the front desk had all of his friends in the lobby and they were all being really loud to where I had a hard time hearing the guy at the front desk. He then asked for my card and scanned it again. My information was already saved in the system so there should have been no need to do that since I made the reservation over the phone. Then he took it and made a copy of the front of it. Eventhoug... Read more

What would you expect for this price and a short walk from the Metro in DC? We were expecting worse. So were pleased to find that it was clean and safe. Vintage fixtures and furnishings, but once you realize you are getting what you pay for, it makes great sense. We intended to use our time purely for tourism and fun, so were only in the room to sleep and shower. Several good restaurants in walking distance, too! One big negative for us - they told us that they offered a breakfast. Not! ... Read more

I was visiting DC for a day and needed a place to sleep. My firm booked me in to this hotel because they thought it would be convenient for me to catch my flight at BWI next morning. I walked up to the hotel in the evening to check in and I was faced with the shadiest neighborhood I have seen in a very long time. Kind of perturbed I went to the front desk which is covered with bullet proof glass. Now here is the thing, if the front desk has bullet proof glass‚?¶ RUN. There is a reason that is ... Read more

The room was clean enough and the maids were helpful, but there were tons of cosmetic issues. Small holes in the walls, dents in the furniture. The beds were VERY hard. I have a bad back and the mattresses did not help me. The pillows were also extremely thin. Unfortunately, every room has a bright, bright safety light above the window outside. It was so bright, that the room at night was the same level of darkness as during the day with no lights on in the room. I need more darkness to s... Read more

We slept there on a quick trip to DC, the staff was okay but located behind a plexiglas wall which is not exactly a sign that everything is okay around. The owner of this hotel is probably a Scrooge McDuck character, the furniture and carpet were worn and probably purchased during the Reagan administration by looking at the style. Could be Carter-era. We found 4 bugs in our room which in itself should be a show-stopper for any traveler. The AC was working but seemed to have a tough time by... Read more

The staff were very nice but the facility is needs to be bulldozed. The hotel is just completely worn out in every way. Every way. We were in town for five days but changed hotels the next morning. It was so bad we contemplated changing the first day and taking a total loss on the cost.

It was alright just for one night but the A/C SUCKED. Pretty much had restless sleep because it got too hot and would only be on for about 2-3 minutes at a time then turn back on every 15 minutes or so.

The room at this hotel was old, the carpet was ripped and damp. The ceiling had previous leaks but was not repaired; pictures off the walls without the nails being removed and repaired. No hair dryer in the bathroom...but the worst of it all was the odor in the room. We had to leave early because of this. We have stayed in many DAYS INNS, and this one should not have your name on it as it will spoil at our staying at one again.

By far the worst hotel I've ever stays in. Had a short notice trip to DC and most hotels were booked. Decided to stay here despite mixed reviews. I arrive after traveling 13 hrs across country to check-in at a front desk enclosed in bullet proof glass. I get to the room and it smells like urine. They give me another room and I find two dead roaches on the floor. We stayed at this hotel just for a night, we thought we can survive a cheap accommodation for a few hours and save a bit of cash. When we arrived, the bulletproof glass on the reception was the first shock which was followed by stinky room, hole in the bathroom wall and most of all, bugs everywhere - dead and alive! We spent the night killing them with hardly any sleep. And in the morning, they offered us 10% discount. Please avoid this hotel. And that still meant paying over 100$ a night!

Check in was great the clerk was pleasent and helpful. The room was clean I found,3 bugs in the room. The air conditioner was noisy and there is not a enough power to run ac, hair dryer and any other appliance running, this cause a black out in our room. Also the outlets, were far from the light fixtures and we were tripping over the cords.

We prepaid for 3 king size rooms, but when we got there we were told that there was only one available. We settled on 2 full rooms. Once we finally found both rooms, we had to request 2 new rooms. One of the doors was off its hinges, so it would not lock properly. The 2nd room was labeled as non smoking, however, the wave of cigarette smoke that greeted you at the door said otherwise. We also found a cockroach in said room. There are some other similar-priced hotels in the area. I would not ... Read more

Great little town in Silver Spring, but poor hotel. There were bugs that came out on our last day. Filthy beds and bathrooms. I did not feel clean taking a shower there. Also, took my own blankets to sleep on, and I am glad I did. Microwave tray was missing as well as the light bulb in the microwave? There was a picture missing from the wall, yet there were still hooks. I was worried I would get charged for something stolen. Cheap place to stay. Not even worth the money.

This little hotel is an absolute nightmare, which is a shame considering its great location within walking distance of the Metro and downtown Silver Spring. The first thing we saw when we walked in was a giant roach on the wall by the bed. There were several other bugs in the bathroom. The interior was dingy and dark, and even at the late hour there was noisy activity in the courtyard area. Unfortunately, we didn't have an alternative.
