Nice big king sized bed which is comfy but had a dip in it, presumably its worn out from other people sleeping on that particular side, no problem because I'm small and i just moved over to the nicer side as it was just me. The pillows were good although one of the pillowcases stunk really badly and one of them had a yellow stain - gross. I slept okay - not the best. The walls seem to be on the 'thin' side and I can hear other people flushing their toilets! Also room 340 was overlooking a fat lo...

The pillows were good although one of the pillowcases stunk really badly and one of them had a yellow stain - gross. I slept okay - not the best. The walls seem to be on the 'thin' side and I can hear other people flushing their toilets! Also room 340 was overlooking a fat load of vents and generators etc and it was SO NOISY! I was considering a room change but Saturday there was a wedding and the hotel was packed. I did tell the reception staff about the noise from the generators etc but they did nothing about the noise and it wasn't a major problem to keep you from sleeping at night. I did manage to sleep probably because I was exhausted and jet lagged.
The room is quite clean, minus previous stains on the walls and wallpaper in the bathroom from usage over time. The TV is horrendous, probably because some kid made it all blurry and pixelated and I couldn't fix it. There was no TV guide either? My colleague told me he had a TV guide in his room and no noise which is not fair. The maids are really kind too. The shower was like a power shower - fantastic. Good amount of hot water and a good powerful shower head. The amenities in the room are adequate. Could have done with an extra peg in the bathroom. I also didn't get a bath mat one day which really peeved me off as I had a soaking wet bathroom floor and I had to use a hand towel instead to stand on. You have to make do sometimes with the spare towels lying around.
The reception staff were really friendly, always saying hi and bye and gave me directions to the shops and apologetic. I was a little shocked when I arrived and they told me the accommodation weren't paid for yet and i was like OH NO I CAN'T AFFORD 39 NIGHTS for 9 PEOPLE! I contacted my boss who rectified this immediately. The hotel staff were helpful, kind and apologized for a bit of admin hiccup.
The breakfast is a bit gross. Its either cold or hot even though its meant to be served on those hot buffet counters. The omelette was undercooked, watery and the bacon was rock solid. The sausages or 'sausage patties' were horrendous. I had diarrhea one morning straight after breakfast which was a bit upsetting as I had to go to a conference too.
What made is so much worse was that flipping cockroach! I told the waitress really quietly and pointed to it as I didn't want to stir up a restaurant full of people eating breakfast, and she jumped out of her skin, went white and was patting her chest in shock. She immediately got a cloth to get rid of the pest. I never touched that side of the breakfast bar ever again where the bagels and bread were due to that cockroach. My supervisor and other colleagues were so shocked by the presence of the cockroach. But you get pests everywhere, the London tube has mice and its not the first time i've seen a cockroach - they have them in hotels in Asia as well as south France.
Breakfast service is good, the lady remembered that I wanted hot water by the end of my stay which was cool, I brang my own teabags as America fail as a nation to have decent tea and i'm British. We British people are tea lovers. Lipton is okay I suppose but you can't beat Twinings english breakfast tea. I also just use a milk carton from the buffet breakfast bar for my milk and sugar for my english breakfast tea. I presume they have fresh milk somewhere but all I saw was little 5-10ml prepacked tiny pots of UHT milk which seemed a bit iffy to me. Wheres the fresh milk jugs like they have everywhere else in the world for tea and coffee and cereal??!! The bill/cheque book failed to arrive once or twice so I just gave the lady my breakfast voucher. My work colleague managed to walk out of breakfast without giving them a coupon and had a free breakfast because they never brang up the bill to him even though he had tonnes of breakfast vouchers. Oh well.. Somebody else I knew also managed to steal a breakfast coupon from somebody else staying at the hotel to pay for their breakfast!!!
The hotel does smell a bit too chlorinated for my liking because of the pool which is indoors. Better ventilation would be good. Two of my colleagues at the conference also said the tap water tasted a bit chlorinated too. I went to Food Lion to buy a gallon of water so I didn't mind too much. Also the gym stinks and its SO HOT in there that none of us used the gym facilities.
On the last day, I asked somebody at reception if they had any scales to weigh out luggage, the guy completely ignored me and walked behind into their office and didn't even answer my question. Why do people like that work for Holiday inn and ruin the hotel??? He could have just said no and i would have been like 'okay thanks'.
The business center is rubbish, they might as well not have a printer if it prints out black patterns across the paper.
Overall, very average stay. Good amenities in room - fridge & microwave, 4 bins, lots of lights, good amount of hot water which is burning hot, power shower, plenty of towels, large mirror, hairdryer, hangers and a sofa, big fluffy pillows, close by to a mall and fast food chains and a large supermarket within a few minutes walk. Bad things - cockroach, breakfast, chlorinated smells, stained pillows, sagging side of the mattress, noisy a/c & overlooking a top floor of air vents, generators, and all sorts on top of a section of the hotel. Do not have room 340.
