Yes, the building is old and worn. It reminded my of my college apartment (although here the plumbing worked very well - my apartment was another story). The shower was nice and hot and the beds were comfortable. Yes, the painting and plastering is not perfect, the floor creaks and the walls were thin (or the person across the hall needed a hearing aid). We could smell someone breaking the non-smoking rule in the morning. I found the staff to be very friendly. It is definitely not a 4 star hotel... Read more

Very large rooms furnished in a shabby chic antique sort of fashion. The public area carpets are worn and a bit grimy. Sparse outlets for recharging electronics. Extension cords running along the floors and walls everywhere. A strong smell of cleaning products knocks you over. My room faced West Madison Street and was a bit noisy with car traffic. My room had connecting doors in both rooms which made me feel a bit uneasy given the unfriendly vibe this place was throwing off. The building appears... Read more

I was very excited to stay here. I did not heed an earlier review of the place, which said essentially -- stay away. I should have. Why the owners don't treasure this property and take care of the GEM that it is, is beyond me. The location is perfect. You're in the heart of the Mt Vernon neighborhood, walking distance to just about everything, including the circulator (a free bus to and from the inner harbor and other neighborhoods) The building architecturally is stunning, if the owners wo... I should have paid more attention to the reviews. This place has a lot of potential and a very friendly staff. Historic building but the hotel is not well maintained, and could really use some updating in terms of the flooring, walls, etc. It could be a charming hotel but in its current state it just feels old. Also, not a great location if your business is at the convention center or downtown - would not recommend walking there alone after dark. But, I would stress that the staff were all very ... Last week, I chose to stay at this hotel because it was located in the historical district of Baltimore. I was attending a convention and it was within walking distance. So instead of staying closer to the convention center and avoiding the higher cost, the Biltmore seemed a logical choice. There was no parking in front of the hotel. Cars were parked there, which prohibited offloading luggage. The stone steps led up to an interior space where there was another set of steps. There was no elevator... Read more

The building is old but is very clean and lots of new paint. The mattress were the best to sleep on. I've worked over 5 years in hotel maintenance, and I would stay here again. 12 foot ceiling, A/C or you can open the window. the parking garage is a block away, but is free when staying. The room does have new TVs, microwave, frig and coffee makers in the rooms. Down side is no elevator if you have a lot of luggage

This an old hotel that has had some renovations, but appeared to be DIY, i.e. new linoleum in the bathroom but the door stuck in multiple places due to uneven floor. Other patrons were rude (arriving drunk in the middle of the night, allowing an early morning alarm to ring without stopping) but staff attempted to contain the situations.

We almost walked out upon our arrival. I am certain that an employee was smoking in the back room and since we had to hunt down an employee each time we needed something, it was hard to ever gauge the friendliness of the staff. This is a VERY OLD and MUSTY place. If this place wasn't clean, we would have left and found another hotel. There are also a lot of stairs and there is no one to help with any bags. This could be a really nice place if some money was spent to fix it up. We will not ... Read more
