I don't usually complain or write bad reviews but this holiday in express does not compare to there. Went on a weekend trip and stayed here with a bunch of people for a hockey tournament. First thing we noticed was the moldy smell in the room. (When I woke up the window area was soaked with condensation. Even the curtain was soaked.) so I'm guessing that's why. Next we almost missed our first game because the clocks were never set on daylight savings. Which was a week before. Next thing, a... Read more

We stayed here for one night and were thoroughly impressed. Despite being busy, the front desk was quick and efficient for check-in. We had a room on the top floor, overlooking the airport (wasn't noisy). Because the hotel sits higher up on a hill, the view is great. Clean room, very spacious (we had a suite). Had a great night's sleep on a comfy bed in a quiet room.

On a last minute decision, we decided to get away for the night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We drove into South Portland, found the hotel with ease, and were checked into our room (without a reservation!) within ten minutes of our arrival. The front desk was welcoming and very efficient. Our room, the last free room that night, was spacious and spotless. They connected us with a taxi service that gave us a 20% discount just for being guests of the hotel. The bed. The king sized b... As a business owner, my husband and I needed a overnight getaway. We arrived very late on a Sunday evening and chose this hotel as we found a coupon for it. I was highly impressed with the cheerful greeting by the desk clerk at that late hour! Our room was exceptionally clean and well maintained. Beds and pillows were very comfortable and the Keurig provided a nice cup of coffee. The "living room" area was relaxing. Breakfast had a very nice selection. I will stay here again if in the are... We stayed two nights at this hotel. Hotel was clean and bed comfortable but mattress showing sign of wear. The room was on the fifth floor and very quiet. Went to get hot water located in the lobby three time however two out of the three times their was no hot water. Hotel staff was nice and courteous.

I had an amazing stay in Portland here. The hotel has a nice location, free parking and easy to reach from the city and from the highway. We decided to stay outside the city as we wanted mainly to see the area of the lighthouses. Definitely easy! Couple of minutes driving and you are heading towards the sea and the lighthouses. The room is spacious, kitchenette available. Only doubt, why the sink is outside the bathroom??? Having microwave inside really helped a lot, because we had our own dinne... Read more

We stayed on the 6th floor with the interstate outside our window. Extremely noisy. You could hear the traffic wizzing by. The carpet needed to be cleaned and the curtains wouldn't close. In fact, they were too short, approximately 8 inches. The sun woke us up earlier than we wanted to wake up. I regularly stay at Holiday Inn Express, but this hotel doesn't seem to be up to the standard of other Holiday Inn hotels.

We stayed at this hotel twice in May. The first time, the room was directly across from the elevators. Room 603. Luckily, it was not as noisy as I thought it might be. (We arrived at midnight, and I was too tired to ask for a room change.) The second stay was in Room 617. Both rooms were clean, comfortable, and quiet. The mirrors were well-lit. A travel make-up mirror was not needed. The air conditioning worked well. The breakfast was plentiful, and there was a good variety from which to ch... Read more

We ended up with a pretty spacious room. It had 2 beds in one area and a separate area with a couch, desk and a counter top located above the refrigerator. My bed was very comfortable and I got a good night's sleep. It is reasonably priced and close to many places to eat. It is located away from the highway in an office park, which made very quiet. Most of the parking is behind the building, down a level from the lobby. There is a door into the hotel from that level. The WiFi was quite fa... Read more

Stayed here for one night recently. We arrived after a long day of driving and waited for nearly 15 minutes to check in - they had to check that the room was clean. Never had that happen at an IHG property before. When we drove around back, we noticed there was a lot of garbage in the parking lot, and the two garbage containers were overflowing with trash. There are two elevators for a six floor, 100+ room hotel. The elevators were slow. The building is dilapidated and needs to be updated. The... Read more

Hotel was in a great Portland location. Beds were comfortable and rooms were large. The hallway had an old smell but room did not. Bathroom (Shower) was not very clean. I have stayed at other Holiday Inn Express and have found there breakfast to be great. This one was not. The pancake machine was broken and there was not many other options. I believe we paid more than what we normally would for what we received.

Wonderful place to stay! Room was large, clean, and had a lovely tree out the window. Breakfast was a huge spread with choices to please anyone. Food was fresh and delicious. Elevator was a bit slow trying to accommodate all the floors, but still quick enough to be ok. The location is beautiful, surrounded by trees and flowers. Pool was warm.

Chosen only because another familiar go-to hotel was booked, we'll always stay here from now on when visiting Portland. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, the room/suite was large, bright and well appointed, and the sitting area afforded this poor sleeper a quiet reading nook without disturbing her partner. Although there were more young families and very noisy children than we prefer, the soundproofing was relatively sound, the public areas spacious, and the locale terrific for those of... Read more

We are staying here for four nights and I'm so Happy!! The suite has a kitchenette, desk, sofa, two queen beds, and a bathroom with the sink separate from the tub area. The queen bed was one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in, in a hotel. We are in room 118, and I did not hear any noise all night. The breakfast was plentiful. There were cold and hot items offered.

We didn't check in until 1am, after the airport shuttle dropped us off. At the airport we waited for the shuttle for about 15minutes (it was a silver Marriott shuttle). The room was nice. The furniture in good shape. Microwave was out dated, but we didn't use it. The fridge was quite. My main complaint would be how slippery the bathroom floor was, even after we put a towel down. The shower made a squeaking noise while in use. Sleep quality was good, until the sun came up, because the black out s... Read more

With the prices of hotels in Portland area overall, this was a reasonable find with basic quality and no parking fee (near Maine Mall). Less than 5 mins drive from Old Port. King bed room was a suite but small and room was right off elevator which made it noisy at times. TV was positioned to bend to couch or bed area- but viewing the bathroom sink in its path. Breakfast buffet nice selection-- containers did not remain opening when choosing making it awkward to maneuver. Wi-Fi just ok. ... Read more

This hotel had a nice location, lobby, and average rooms. The beds weren't the most comfortable, and the room didn't get as cool as we like. That said, it had a nice breakfast and the staff were personable. We loved the location as it was to the mall!

We were a little worried about staying here after reading some of the past reviews. When we got there, our room wasn't ready so they put us in another one. The room was a suite but didn't have a sink in the kitchen area, it had very small draws in the closet, there were stains on the sheets, the light in the bathroom barely worked, the toilet barely flushed, but on the plus side the internet worked, and the ac worked good but it was only like 80 outside. The free breakfast was good but it was a m... Arrived on a rainy night, front desk personnel did not even greet you when I walked up to the desk, I stood in front of him until he looked up! Also sloppy, looked like he slept in his clothes over night. Don't managers train their staff/teams to greet guests and be personable anymore? Hotel was neat and clean but it's nice to feel welcomed. Am a rewards member, and I may be staying at the competition more often.

We stayed here two nights in August while visiting the Portland area. The location is extremely convenient. The rooms are large and clean. The breakfast is fine. The public areas could be cleaner, particularly the pool and surrounding area. I agree that it is a bit overpriced but would consider staying here again if in the area.

Room layout very functional and clean. Staff were friendly and efficient. Inside and out were very clean. Continental breakfast was pretty vast and travellers took full advantage. My only pet peeve is the shower curtain...it should be changed more often as after one shower, a musty oder was noticeable. Otherwise great stay

The room was very large for a Holiday Inn Express and, because we were on the 6th floor, had a view over the area. The only negative about it was that there was very little fruit at breakfast (I had a banana and I think there were apples and oranges but no mixed fruit).

ON THE PLUS SIDE The hotel was very clean, quiet, and very convenient. The pillow-top bed was wonderful! Some guest arriving at 1 or 2 am were quite noisy as they got off the elevator, but that was not the fault of the hotel. The staff were generally friendly and helpful. ON THE OTHER SIDE The ONLY deficit was the breakfast buffet. It might be better to call it a continental breakfast plus. It did have the basics, but we had hoped for more options and better quality in line with other hotels. ... Read more

I've traveled frequently, staying at different hotels, including the IHG brand. On this trip, I booked a suite, considering I would be in the area for a few days and I wanted to indulge/pamper myself a little more. Target is not far down the road so we stocked up on our favorite K-Cups. They are running a w/e promo thru 12/18/16 w/ breakfast served till 12 noon (also noon check out) on Sat & Sun. Better breakfast than most hotels w/ fresh fruit & yogurts. Nice heated indoor pool so bring that bathing suit.

Pros: Friendly staff, breakfast is decent, room large (King suite) Cons: The hallways and my room did not smell very good -- eventually I thought that maybe some people were smoking, or maybe people smoke by the back entrance and the smell moves through the building. That, combined with food and other sources get into the rooms from the hallways? The rooms need updating so that power outlets are more convenient. Portland Maine is awesome. Every type of food mixed with plenty of shops for browsing. Start with breakfast, stop for brunch have lunch then a late day snack don't forget dinner and then a night cap. You'll walk it all off before the end of your visit if you enjoy being there as much as I do. LL Bean is right up the road, as is Kittery Maine. I've been to the area 4 times at different times of the year and fully intend to go back. Friendly, clean and welcoming.
