From the front desk staff to the housekeeping, I found service was always friendly and excellent. I was with a group and we had several meals here. They were done buffet style as we were a large group. I was very pleased with the selection. I had reason to go to my room in the middle of the day and found housekeeping was there. The maid politely asked me to show her my room key. THANK YOU!! I appreciate the concern for my safety and the security of my belongings. The free shuttle to and from... Read more

We have a wonderful time staying at the Portland Regency Hotel & Spa. The room was great, coffee was delivered to our door in the morning. The breakfast at the restaurant was outstanding, and the food in the lounge was also outstanding. We had an early flight back to Madison, so we needed to get our car and bill by 4 am. The staff person at the front desk had both our bill and rental car waiting for us. Front desk also printed our boarding passes for us for our flight.

Nice hotel with turn of century decor (that's 20th century). Good restaurant on site with great, but not free, breakfast. Rooms are good size and fine for traveller. Wi-fi was free but didn't work in my room- no signal. Centrally located within walking distance to everything in downtown Portland.

Excellent location, right downtown. About 30min walk to Munjoy Hill or Promenade. Friendly staff, complimentary shuttle from airport. Clean, quiet, comfy bed. But standard rooms are a little cramped and, due to the architecture of being an armory, the windows are small resulting in a dark and dreary sort of setting. Did not try the restaurant.

I visited the hotel with a friend to celebrate my birthday. The location is a short 2 blocks from the waterfront and valet parking is offered at a very reasonable $12 per night. The staff was friendly and professional. Breakfast in the restaurant was excellent. We each had massages in the spa and enjoyed them thoroughly. I would stay there again.

Room 116 was a good sized room but it is literally underground. We were surprised when we were told to go down to "G" level (the main elevator bank doesn't even go that far down), we had to go down the hall and take another elevator down two levels from reception) The room was pretty big, but was very dark (not enough light fixtures) and you have to keep the curtains closed unless you want passer-by's looking down into your room. I normally wouldn't care if I had to keep the curtains closed the ... Read more

We had a great overnight stay at the Portland Regency! We were in a pet-friendly room on the ground floor. I found the layout of the hotel a bit confusing at first, but one of the very friendly staff helped us find our room. The room was huge and included a sitting area with a couch and two chairs. That said, this hotel was recommended to me by a friend who said their room was on the small side. It may be worth asking about room size when you book. It seems to vary quite a bit. I should begin by telling that I booked through a third party and I believe this fact negatively impacted our stay. Upon check-in, the clerk said," I see you booked through a third party" and then gave us the most remote room in the joint...third floor, right corner, and 50 ft from WiFi hub. Our breakfast was 30 minutes late and came only after a reminder call, we had no WiFi, and none of the bathroom toiletries were replenished during our stay. My wife and I flew into Portland, in order to rent a car and drive to Acadia National Park. We only stayed one evening. The staff was friendly and professional. The room was furnished nicely, and was very clean. The location was good (close to the airport, restaurants, and the historic port). The in-house gym looked pretty good. The only complaint I have is that the gym closed at 9:00 p.m. Since we arrived in the evening, all I could do was some aerobics.

We visit Portland twice a year and always stay at the Regency. It is a historical site as back a couple hundred years it was built as an armory/fort. It is two short blocks up from the waterfront and Commercial St. where you will find many restaurants and bars. We found the best rooms are on the fourth floor which also have balconies to view the waterfront and city.

This is a beautiful hotel, conveniently located in Portland, close enough to the waterfront to walk. The room that we had was a little small, though not uncomfortably so....I found the beds to be a little lumpy but was so tired that I slept well. The hotel and room were clean. I loved that the shower, which had great water pressure offered soap, shampoo and conditioner dispensers instead of little bottles.

This is a beautiful historic building, which adds to the charm. The floors can be a little confusing and it is a long building. When we pulled up, there was not valet to help with car or luggage. If you went by the demeanor of the employees at the reception, you might wonder if this was a Motel-8. Seemingly the front desk has not bought into the luxury or the history laden story of this place. The hotel bears the 19th century exterior and some of it makes into the interior (common areas) as well. For an average of $325/night we reserved a room for 2 nights during the July 4th weekend. We stayed twice in a week. As for the location, you can't get a hotel much closer to the Harbor and Commercial Street than the Portland Regency. As for the hotel itself, it is in a beautiful old building, with a nice courtyard entrance, but the interior and amenities could use some updating. Not that the hotel is bad inside, but I would rate the interior and facilities as "average." I gave it an "above average" rating, based primarily upon the location.

Noise insulation wasn‚??t good and we could hear our neighbours and people in the corridor. A decent night‚??s sleep though. For us, the best thing was the location. It‚??s an easy walk down to the harbour w... Read more

I needed a place to spend one night while dropping someone off at the Portland Airport. This hotel was perfect. The location was right by the water so it was very easy to grab dinner and walk around the shops yet it was a few blocks off the main drag so a bit more quiet. The room was adequate and it was lovely to spend the morning in the fitness room, sauna and steam room.

Well located in the middle of Old Port.....I can't recommend this hotel more. The rooms were comfortable, well-appointed, and spotless (especially the 4th floor "superior" rooms with balconies). Service was spectacular.....free coffee and pastries delivered to the room each morning, turndown service, and top notch front desk responsiveness. We had three delicious breakfasts in the dining room.....and had a great dinner in the Armory Lounge one evening (there would have been more.....but we di... Read more

Old hotel with history and in a good location for exploring Portland on foot. Our room had 2 beds, which is not what we expected . The bathroom was good, there is free wifi but is a bit erratic . There is no in room safe, it is not possible to make a hot drink in the room . The bathroom is good . The breakfast set up was frustrating and expensive . It is a la carte, but service slow and be warned that everything is charged for ,even the cup of tea or coffee , which was horrible . Pay an... Read more

I was eager to stay at the Regency having read and heard good things about it. The hotel is clearly a beautiful and historic building with a lot of charm and a great location right on Milk St in the midst of the Old Port. The accommodations and service, however, did not meet my expectations, particularly for the price we paid. Negatives and positives: - The curtains in the bedroom were noticeably stained - The bathroom had a stand-up shower but no tub (a surprise for a king room with a deck) ... Read more

Friendly staff, very clean place, perfect location. Plenty of restaurants and shops in walking distance. The service was great! Complementary coffee/ pastries outside our door at 7am when we asked where to get a quick cup of coffee before an early conference...Used the valet service which was very quick and efficient. Will definitely be staying here again...

I was really impressed with the Regency even before we arrived. The Regency is so charming from being greeted by a doorman to the real keys used for the rooms. They offered free coffee and pastries delivered to your door in the mornings, transportation around town and turndown service. It was close to everything. For the rate, this hotel was worth it!

This was a repeat visit to the Regency. Rooms are not large but they are clean. They have a shuttle to the airport and a restaurant, spa and bar on site. Easy walk to the Old Port and numerous good resturants and shops. We were in town for the Harvest on the Harbor events and it was a nice walk of 3/4 of a mile to the events. We would definitely stay here again. Parking is valet. History of building being a former armory is interesting - thus the name of the bar is the Armory.

My room was shaking from the music in a nearby club until early in the morning. Additionally, the room is poorly insulated from noise from both inside the hotel and from the street below. I could hear every word the people on the street below were saying, which was particularly annoying when loud crowds were getting out of the bars and congregating on the street. I complained twice -- at 2am I called the front desk to see if they could do anything about the people literally shouting outside m... Read more

My husband and I stayed here the second week of October. We had a room with a balcony and had a small view of the harbor. Our room was large as was the bathroom. The bathroom was updated and clean. We appreciated the very comfortable king bed. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They even helped me with my airline check in. Every morning we had coffee and a couple sweet rolls with the paper delivered to our room at the time we requested included at no extra charge. The hotel is loc... Read more

Perfect position to explore the local sites, restaurants and waterfront. Hotel is excellent. We had a room on 4th floor with a deck and could see harbour through the buildings. Staff were friendly, helpful and very obliging. Hotel was the Armoury and retains many of the features of the original building. The bar is beautiful - lots of original wood and atmosphere! Complimentary coffee and pastries in the morning served in the room is a rarity and very welcome. Room was clean and bathroom... Read more

Portland Regency Hotel is on the list of historic hotels in America. It formally was an armory. Both the restaurant and lounge serves excellent meals and are known for their martinis. We stayed in a junior site which was roomy and comfortable. You can have coffee delivered to your room in the morning for free! Call the night before our early morning. The hotel is near the waterfront Ann's is in walking distance to many restaurants, pubs, and bakerie and shopping. We enjoyed the area very much ... Read more

We stayed here for two nights in the fall, and found it to be not only located in a convenient spot walkable to most places, but also the accommodations to be comfortable and amenities outstanding! The staff were friendly and courteous, too. Definitely would stay again next time we're up in Portland!

Several of us convened at the Regency for a girl's get together. The rooms are very well appointed, modern and clean. Check in was a breeze and valet service was convenient. We planned on parking for the weekend and walking to shops and eateries. The spa was used for Jacuzzi and sauna and was very nice at no additional cost. We visited the Armory for drinks, but we didn't go to the restaurant. At one point we decided to go up to Congress Street and the shuttle not only took us up there, bu... Read more

Unfortunately we only had one night to enjoy this wonderful property. Staff was friendly, valet parking was fast and convenient. It's a perfect location in the heart of the Old Port. Many shops and restaurants in easy walking distance. Sofa bed was awful, as they sometimes are, but the king bed was super comfortable. I will definitely be returning to the Portland Regency.

The room was great, Went with a Executive Suite. Clean. We had a room with a weird window set up but there was plenty of light. The spa treatment was great. The staff handled a couples massage that was fantastic. The location is steps away from breakfast, lunch, dinner, shopping, and nightlife. I love the area.

We loved staying here and will definitely return! We had meant to take advantage of the Spa services but there was so much to do we never got the chance! Our Suite had a view of the water and commercial street as well as the quaint square below. Despite being November, the weather was unseasonably warm and actually enjoyed our enormous deck and enjoyed lunch overlooking the activity below. There are many similar hotel choices in Portland Maine at a similar price point. The Regency, however, has a great spa that guests can use free of charge. In the winter, this makes the Regency a stand out.
