"The shower did not work in our room at all. They fixed one part of the problem. We asked them to come back and finish the job while we were out, but they never did. We asked for a remote for our room several times and never got one. As we walked through the lobby, we were not greeted by the staff other than the front door bellman who was helpful. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!"

"I'm not sure where to begin. The front desk staff was rude and blamed me when I came to complain about the room. There was vomit on the floor, 2 out of 4 lights didn't work because the light bulbs had been removed, the lamps were stained and/ shredded, there wasn't a fire detector (only wires hanging down), the bathtub was gray because it was so dirty and the shower curtain was pink from mold and also had green snot on it, the water didn't let out fast enough so it puddled around my feet, 3 out of 4 elevators didn't work and the air conditioner had apparently been off for 2 days and it was hot in our room when we got there. They finally got the air working after several hours and after a pillow that had fallen into the vomit was placed back on the bed after housekeeping came in (and the vomit not cleaned up), I finally decided I had enough and went to complain. They just kept repeating that I should have called and offered no apologies for the disgusting room. They had us move to another floor and even after housekeeping management checked that room, although she was very nice, I pulled back the comforter and there was blood on it and again 2 out of 4 lights had the light bulbs removed. Everyone I spoke to had the same kinds of issues. I'm surprised the hotel hasn't shut down yet. I've never complained about a hotel before but it was so ridiculous all we could do was laugh about it and move on with our vacation. They did not have valet as they had described in their listing. I assumed that they did because it was in their listing so I parked in front of the hotel to give my keys to valet and got a ticket. Then I had to drive around the block and park in someone elses parking deck, which was so full I had to go to the top floor (10th) to find one space. People were parking on the ramps.They also did not have a safe (as described on their website) in the first room and the one in the second room was not working."

"Lets go through the list of what was wrong first. Only 1 elevator working, room not very clean. No shower curtain, towels not replaced., soap taken and not replaced, air conditioning not working etc. Most of the staff at the front desk were very nice and helpful but there was one young lady who acted like you were bothering her. Upon checkout I explained all the things that had been wrong and this went on deaf ears. I guess I should have DEMANDED but that is not my way. I would not stay there again and I would not recommend this holel"

"Dismal hotel and that is being kind. At over $300 a night, the room we were given was extremely filthy. The bathrub was 'troughed'. Literally, was broken so badly, there was no way to use it. It is impossible that had the tub been cleaned, that no one would have noticed the huge collapse in the middle of it, nor the plug that was totally out of the drain. I did request a different room, but due to being there during MG, wasn't moved until 2 days later. The hotel was NOT full. Everything had to be requested twice or more...towels, soap, toilet paper...etc.. that being said...the hotel personell was beyond exceptional"

"When we arrived we were told that the air conditioning was out but would be fixed within the next two hours. We went up to our room (on the 7th and top floor) and it was 78 degrees. We tried to open the window but it was painted shut. The bed linens looked clean but the carpet was not. Our smoke detector was also falling off the ceiling. We left the room to get some lunch and walk around the city hoping when we returned the air conditioning would be up and running. We came back later that evening to learn that the air had not been fixed. Our room was now 82 degrees. I spoke with the manager; he was very apologetic and explained that that it may not be working for the next 3 days. He refunded us one night stay. I went back to my room to get on the internet to look up other hotels in the area and found that the internet didn't work. When I asked the front desk about it they told me it only worked on the first floor. When we went to take a shower that evening we realized they had taken two of the towels we used earlier in the day and didn't replace them. We also tried to get ice and the ice machine didn't work. When we asked the desk they said only the ice machines on the 3rd and 4th floors worked. We had a great time in the city, but I would never go back to this hotel! The price was reasonable compared to others in the area, but it is not worth all of the headaches!"

"This was our second time to stay at this hotel, we'd been there last October as well. I guess they did fool us twice. The first time, the problems were more minor - broken ice machines, vending machines eating money, only one working elevator, room safes not working. We arrived this time to find no air conditioning for two of our three nights. After room service came, we had one towel in our room and our second room had none. Staff explained they were all in the dryer. We found hairs under the pillows on the sheets when we got there. On three different floors the ice maker didn't work. I've been in five of their rooms and the safe hasn't worked in one of them yet. I guess the most frustrating part was that the staff really didn't seem to care. We were lucky to get them to answer the phone at the front desk. After no air conditioning for two of the three nights, the manager finally promised to comp night for each of our two rooms when we checked out. He said we would have to go through bookit to get that done, it ended up taking over an hour on the phone to get our credit, which ended up being less than he'd told us. Two times is plenty for me, I will not be staying there again. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, much less a friend."

"It seems they are on a tight budget. Because, when I arrived on Tuesday, the air conditioning was not working through out the building. Luckily the weather was not hot. Then more customer came in on Friday, the air conditioning is working. And there were shortage of towels on weekend. Other than that, everything is fine except the building will soon NEED scrub down cleaning big time. The location of the hotel is excellent. I would go there again if they stop messing around with the air conditioning and scrub down the building & rooms."

"The shower never had hot water, sometimes it was warm. But mostly just cold showers. It only had one working elevator, so there was often a long wait to get on it. It was cheaper than most other hotels in the area, so I guess you get what you pay for."

"This was a very bad experiance.Upon arriving were told A/C was not working would be on in a couple of hours. It was finaly turned back on 48 hours latter. now the A/C being out happens not avoidable things do break . where i have aprob is in telling ppl it will be on in a few hours . and then not trying to make a already bad experiance any better. our rooms never recevied towls the whole time we were there elavater was so slow it was actualy faster to just take the stairs. save your money and and make your trip all it can be stay somewhere elese"

"I had high hopes for this place after reviews and pics, however...it did not live up to the expectations. I arrived at 3:30 pm and valeted my car, walked to the hotel lobby and was told the room wasn't ready, no biggie...I came back at 5 and waited in line again only to be told that there are no rooms. At this point the sun was going down and our one night in the city was dwindling. I then check my bags and decide to explore the quarter and came back at 9pm....and could FINALLY get my room. So at 9:30 I could shower and get ready for the evening? Horrible....horrible horrible. The view of the parking garage and dirty bathrooms were less than surprising after the service we received. Couldn't wait to get out! We booked another night at another hotel the next night as a do-over. Thanks for wasting my time and my money! Don't do it!!!!"

One of the staff members is a fantastic assistant to navigating the best places to visit during your stay, especially if you're a 'first-timer'. "The staff was very accommodating. We requested a room with two doubles at check in. Since they were full, they made sure to change our room the next day. They also held our bags after we checked out and reserved a taxi to the airport without even asking! We were upset that they no longer had breakfast but it worked out fine. Great location!!"

"Wanted to go on a simple getaway weekend with a lady friend who had never been to NOLA, so we wanted to stay close to the Quarter. Check! HCE is one block from Canal Street, and Carondolet becomes Bourbon Street on the other side of Canal. Traveling with a woman, I wanted the room to be clean. Check! Clean sheets and bathroom, and overall clean room. No visible dust or other spots of uncleanliness although the tub was slightly stained (not dirty, stained). We stayed in a Queen bed room and while i've been in bigger queen rooms, it didn't feel claustrophobic (I'm 6'2'/240; she 5'4'/125). The staff was helpful with directions, and responsive to the 2 requests we made (towels and late check out). Which brings me to the best point of all for this hotel: PRICE!!! Granted our stay was in an 'off peak' weekend right between all the October festivals (October 21-24, 2011), but there were NO other hotels in or near The Quarter that were within $35-$50 per night of the rate we paid. Ok, so all this was the good...but there is bad: The hotel is in desperate need of repair and reconditioning. Too many things had a 'not working' sign taped to them. Ex: 1 of the only 4 athletic machines in their 'fitness room' was broken; I saw 3 elevators and only 1 of them worked....SLOWLY! (I found myself walking down the 7 flights of stairs a few times in the 3 days i was there); the breakfast area was--and had been--closed i believe for quite some time (much like the elevators); the 7th floor ice machine was broken, and so on. Not any one thing that would make or break your stay, but just notable. The staff I met were a bit casual, but polite. The bottom line for me on this hotel? It's perfect for what it is: A clean place, close to the Quarter, to lay your head and keep your valuables safe for the few hours a day you aren't in the Quarter or French Market or riding the trolley. Good for a weekend (3 nights or less), but I'm not sure about staying 5 nights or more."

"Location was nice and close to Bouron Street. The hotel one elavator only 4riders at a time very slow had to take the stairs to 6 floors. The room was good but the A/C would only go to 71 in our room. Merlin was wonderfull he made you feel like you could come again . For the rate it was worth it."

"Myself along with two others visited New Orleans for the Fourth of July to attend the Essence Music Festival. The hotel as ideal if you did not want to go broke, be bothered with the noisy crowds/younger attendees, and have to drive or catch a cab. We were in the perfect location. No driving, quiet halls, and great price. The staff was attentive. If there was a problem. They attempted to solve it and provide feedback. Merlin was the best. ALWAYS talk to him about the best places to eat or sightsee. He is the best. Overall, it was a good hotel and we plan to book again next year."

"The location is perfect. It is just a short walk to Canal and Bourbon Street. The only things I can warn about is the elevator only holds 4 people or it drops back to the 1st floor. It was very slow. And the breakfast ir terrible, get there early or you will get nothing. And the pool is very small. but rooms were clean but small."

"Nice hotel, great location...walking distance to French Quarter, Riverwalk, Casino, Steamboat and Warehouse District. Also the street car to Garden District is right outside the hotel entrance. I was a little nervous when I checked in as there was a club right next door but I heard absolutely no noise in my room. The staff there was very friendly and helpful with directions and extra towels as I used the pool quite a bit to cool off. Pool was small but I understand most in New Orleans are. I enjoyed my stay. I noticed some reviewers said they had a very small room. The rooms must not all be the same size as the room I had was fairly large as far as hotel rooms go. The bathroom was also large. I did not upgrade however the front desk told me it was because my room was a handicap room. I wouldn't have guessed it though, did not notice anything different except the shower head. The only reason I have to give a 3 for Quality is because they only had one elevator that was working and the Wi-Fi could only be used in the lobby. Other then that, I highly recommend it and will be back. "
