"Went to New Orleans for my wife and daughter (21st) birthday. We have been to New Orleans many times and had stayed at this hotel before. Our first experience at the Clarion Grand Boutique Hotel was truly exceptional and so we wore looking for another wonderful experience. From the beginning, our experience at this hotel was different. When we were checking in, they only showed 1 room (instead of 2 rooms) reserved on my reservation; yet my printed voucher cleared stated 2 rooms. So since they had rooms available, the clerk gave us a second room. But when I went to sign the paperwork, one of the 2 rooms was going to be charged the full room rate; my voucher indicated that both rooms were fully paid in advance. The desk clerks response was 'Did I want a second room or not?' No, what I wanted was to speak with the manager. The desk clerk got on the telephone and after several minutes, she printed off a second set of paperwork for 2 rooms showing that both were paid in advance. We also had a minor problem explaining that my daugher and her friend would be coming in later that evening and we wanted to leave the second room keys at the desk for her to pick up on her arrival. Our room was clean and quiet, but nothing really exceptional as we had remember from our previous visit. This hotel is conveniently located on the St Charles Trolley route and we used this extensively to go to numerous places. Be sure to purchase the all day ticket on the trolley, it will save you money and can be used on several of the other trolley lines as well. Included in the cost of your room is a continental breakfast. Breakfast the first morning was okay and I really have no comments. However the breakfast on our second morning (Sunday morning) was completely worthless. The pastry seemed like they were perhaps purchased on Thursday or Friday; they were quite stale. The waffle mix and had run out in the machine, so I informed the desk clerk. Her first response was to provide me some short instructions on how to use the machine. A few minutes later she did come to the kitchen area and determine that it fact the machine was out of batter. She pulled the batter bottle out of the machine and returned to the office area, without even saying a word to me. A few moments later I went and asked her if she was going to refill the batter bottle. She told me that they did not have anymore batter and they she would put a sign on the machine in a few minutes stating that it was out of order. There was never an indication of regret or apology. So would my wife and I go back to this hotel? The answer is probably yes. It is clean, well located with easy connections to a lot of places, and reasonably priced. However if we do return and receive as poor of service as we did this time, I am confident that the next time will be our last time. Really the quality of the breakfast was not the biggest issue, it was really the attitude from the front desk staff and the fact that the manager never came out of his office to address either of my issues personally. From a breakfast standpoint; you can get a really great breakfast buffet at the Cheesecake Factory or across the street at the 'Trolley Stop Cafe'."

"We went to New Orleans for Parent's Weekend at Tulane. We picked the Clarion Grand Boutique because it is right on Charles Street, a couple of miles down the road from campus. We did not have to rent a car. Simply jump on the street car and you can be at Tulane within 10 minutes. Downtown is in the other direction and a short cab ride away. And Magazine Street with a ton of great restuarants is also within walking distance. In other words, the location is great.
The hotel is clean and the staff was very accomodating. The room was large and the high ceilings gave it a nice, airy feeling. Whille the room was very clean, the carpet and bed spread are probably well overdue for replacing.
Great marks overall but there were a couple of negatives. The wireless was free but painfully slow. While there was a flat-screen tv, there were no on-demand movies. When I get back to the room at night, I like to unwind with a good movie before going to sleep. Not possible here.
This hotel definately represents a good value and I would stay there again. Of course, the fact that the Cheesecake Bakery is right downstairs doesn't hurt (you have to go to their Sunday brunch)."
