"We enjoyed our stay at Royal St Charles Hotel very much indeed.
On arrival our room was ready and we were able to get in there, leave our belongings and head our into New Orleans which was great.
The computer access was great too!
Do think however that people on the desk should know some good places to eat and especially for breakfast...we managed to stagger upon one place which only served breakfast from 7am-2pm we finally found and it was great! All staff were helpful and friendly. Our room and bed were comfortable and very clean...bathroom as well. Would have no problem in telling a friend to stay there."

"We made great time driving down so I was not surprised that my room wasn't ready. We actually parked in French Quarter on Iberville St. ( just 2 short blocks away.) because it was cheaper. Rooms are small but we really only slept in there so who cares. The place was super clean and well maintained, thats all that matters. Staff was excellent whether it was recomending dinner or something to do during the day."

"The room was booked under a king when our confirmation email clearly said double beds room so that was a nuisance. The night staff was NOT friendly at all, they told us we could get to the hotel during a mardi gras parade. Obviously we aren't from New Orleans so we didn't know any better but she took us on a wild goose chase for almost 2 hours. She also told us the hotel was out of parking for the night (about 3 hours before we got there) then proceeded to try and charge us for valet services after we had already found and paid for a parking garage 4 blocks away. She had an attitude the whole time and I get it, New Orleans during mardi gras you deal with drunk people the whole time, but that is no way to treat sober guests at 12 AM who just drove 6 hours. This is customer service 101, I have worked in customer service positions before too and never treated a guest as rudely. The manager the next morning didn't seem very sincere either, I doubt she even got onto the employee for it.
Towels were not comfortable or soft & shower pressure was bad, wearing wrist bands was annoying - could've gone with showing a room key or something instead.
Besides that, the rooms were great, everything was clean and the rest of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful! Valets and concierge were wonderful! Great location for festivities in the city."

"We spent our 1st wedding anniversary in New Orleans. We chose the Royal St. Charles because it was cheap. Our stay overall was pretty good.
When we first arrived we couldn't check into our room until 4:00PM, even though I had requested early check in, I didn't get it. They did hold our bags for us while we roamed the city which was great. Also, the girl at the desk got us a balcony room which I also requested.
When we returned from roaming the city, I was informed that we would need to pay a mandatory $8.95 resort fee per night. This was for the internet, fitness facilities & business center. We did not use any of these. I wanted to use the gym while I was there and it was on our floor...when I went to look for it, it wasn't there. Just a bunch of boxes in a room. I was disappointed.
I think guests should only be charged for services that they use.
after two nights in our balcony room. we were woken up by a call from the front desk telling us that they needed to work on the room and they would move us to another room, ugh! I didn't want to repack all my stuff and move but I did anyways. As we were packing up we noticed a note slid under the door..it told us about the water ban that the city had going on...we couldn't use the water unless we boiled it, well that's great because I had already brushed my teeth and showered in it...awesome!!!! (p.s. those balconies must have been a quick fix because someone was checked into our 'old' room by that night)
Anyways, we moved to our new room and it was so much better!! It was a suite with a couch and it was nice!! The view was ok...the abandoned building next door wasn't nice to look at but we didn't mind it. I went to go put my stuff away in the bathroom and there was a hair in the sink...again I didn't mind, I just picked it up and moved on. We enjoyed the rest of our stay in our room...the bed wasn't the most comfortable but it did the job. And the maid didn't come in our room at all. She knocked one day to ask if I needed anything and I asked for some towels but that was it.
Overall the stay was decent and I would stay here again. I still had a great vacation!!
Couple of additional comments:
-Bellboys were super nice and accommodating
-short walk to Bourbon
-PJ's Coffee in the lobby
-It was nice to be off of Bourbon for once

"the matress was a little worn and uncomfortable. and i didn't expect to have to pay an extra $9.00 a day, resort fee, for valet parking! i wasn't told of this fee until check out time. they only mentioned the $29.00 a day fee at check-in time. and my room did not have the mini fridge for my first night's stay. didn't get one until later the next evening.

"The hotel could use some major cleaning and maintenance work. The floors had stains and marks everywhere. The wall were scuffed and dusty. Although the several roaches I saw, in our room, didn't seem to mind. The toliet made some REALLY interesting sounds."

"Our stay at the Royal St Charles was picture prtfect and then some. We had read reveiws about this hotel and had some doubts but went with it anyway. We were greeted with smiles and warm hospitality throughout the hotel. Will definitley stay here again. Nice rooms, clean, comfortable. One block from Bourbon St. About 5-6 from the casino. 10 from the Superdome. About 8-9 from French Market. Needles to say, we didn't use our vehicle to go anywhere, we just walked. Couldn't have had a better weekend anywhere. "

"Staff was great!! Room very very small, as in my dorm room was bigger . Undergoing remodeling and it was a mess. Elevators hardly worked. Beds very old and could feel the springs in the mattress , decor of rooms needs updating. Dingy! Actually had to request a room with a window. I thought that was odd."

"Hotel room was smaller than my old dorm room. It was only me so it was ok. Room was clean but very outdated. Housecleaning was subpar. Did have an issue with both lamps with burnt out bulbs when I arrived. Stopped at front desk and notified them. Was fixed by the time I returned. Valet was very nice and very quick.
Not sure I would ever stay here again. Staff very friendly but just not a good value. Spent 96.00 on the room and see that others have spent 55.00 on the same room. If you can get the room for 55.00 then go for it."

"So I stayed here 2 years in a row for the Essence Music Festival....The location is great for this event. 1 block from both Bourbon st amd the French quarters and walking distance to both the convention center and the superdome. My only problem this year was the fact that since construction was occuring at the hotel, the busniess center (which only consist of 1 computer and a printer) did not work ,yet I still had to pay a resort fee of 8.95 which included phone usage as well as busniess center usage."

"Our room was small, the furniture was old (the desk was broken and wouldn't close), and the carpet was worn and dirty. The beds were resonably comfortable. The shower was nearly impossible to turn on. When I finally got the water to flow it was fine...until I tried to turn it off. It dripped all night. Our second night we were kept up by our neighbors (paper thin walls) and we requested a room change. The new room had been updated and had new bathroom fixtures and a shower that worked properly. It was also much brighter and though the furniture was similar in style, it was newer. Staff forgot to give us coffee cups and an ice bucket tray but we managed. what was more annoying was that everytime I asked the front desk person a question they tried to sell me some kind of tour or trip. Obviously their aggresive style was encouraged by management...I was also surprised not to have a fridge...even the $49 motels have fridges...The morning we were leaving the fire alarm sounded and kept up for 20 minutes...It was crazy...and of course a false alarm. This is clearly a place you should avoid if possible."

"Well, when I arrived there was an issue with my reservation (room size). Once the problem was corrected, they forgot to charge me for a night...which I was billed for separately. Another issue I experienced was that the housekeeper(s) did not speak English. Luckily, I had a friend on speed-dial that could translate my request to the housekeepers (via speaker phone). Depsite that, my overall stay was pleasant!! My room was very spacious, with the exception of the bathroom. In my opinion, the bathroom was rather small. The ladies at the front desk and the valet drivers were VERY friendly and VERY professional. No matter how busy they were, they always greeted everyone (with a smile) as we entered and exited the hotel. AWESOME staff!!!!"

"Very nice experience and very reasonably priced boutique hotel. The rooms were a bit small but updated and well kept. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating in every detail.Certain staff members were especially helpful in providing information about restaurants, etc. The location of the hotel is perfect and has a convenient railway stop. PJ's coffee shop and bakery is definitely a plus! This will be our new destination hotel in New Orleans!"

"The room that we were given was sorry, carpet was torn, wet and smelled of mildew. We told the desk that we would not accept the room and be staying at another hotel. We were told they would not charge for the room, but come to find out we were. After a very long talk on phone with Bookit.com , we should get a refund in 15 to 20 day. ' NOTE ' should we shall see."

"My first experience was overshadowed by the problems at this hotel. I booked rooms for an event and we were supposed to have the same room since we all pid the same price. A couple had a room with no windows and a little larger than a closet. The room can't be legal. I requested a late checkout before arrival and was told there would be no problem but 20 mins before checkout they started calling the room every 10 mins and knocking on the door consistently. With one exception; the staff was extremely RUDE and not real accommidating The manager was horrible and laughed at our problems when we said the room was a closet.I will never visit there again."

"Rating: iffy. The room first assigned to me was about 45 degrees frigid, but pretty. The next room was not as nice but warm. The table was broken and missing the center drawer, but clean enough.
Maid service hit or miss; coffee maker uncleaned, old cups left lying about,
and the fiasco of throwing away my shuttle voucher.
My room was on the far side of the building from the elevator, but I heard every up and down.
On the plus side, it was on the parade route and the staff were friendly and it is walking distance from the French Quarter.
For the business traveller, it might be acceptable, but for the tourist trade, you might want to step it up a bit.
Gratitude to Bookit for helping replace my shuttle voucher. But when the shuttle was 20 minutes late the next morning, Bookit was closed. No help for the traveller overnight could be disaster. Lucky he showed up.
I want to thank BookIt for faxing a replacement to the hotel for me"

"We stayed on the 8th floor. it smelled stale and the carpet down the halls were nasty/ spotted up. From the internet I thought it was a better hotel. We asked for wash clothes to take a bath and was told by the hosekeeper that they had none. She said they were out right now. So I called downstairs and it took about 15min and they sent some up."

"The rooms are extremely small. 2 times when taking a shower ran out of hot water....or should I say, had no hot water. Bathroom in EXTREMELY small, when sitting on the commode the door swings in and hits knees. As a couple, if one was taking a shower other couldn't be in the bathroom, actually bathroom in so small, hard to even put your clothes on in it. TV was so old, the volume kept coming in and out and picture was horrible. Staff was friendly. Location is good."

"Never again!! I had 2 rooms booked at this hotel & when we got there, they told us we were being relocated to another hotel further from our destination & only in 1 room! The front desk staff tried to be pleasant, but wouldn't work with us. The hotel manager was horrible. She insulted us & walked away leaving the other staff to deal with us & refused to come back out. The manager at the Ambassaador however, was excellent & helped us through our troubles with this hotel."

"Great little boutique style hotel. For the money, you cant find a better location. The cost each night I stayed was about $125 usd. It is literally one blocked to Canal St and then one block over to Bourbon St. The rooms are small but, for those who don't hang out in your room all day, it's plenty and very clean. There is a Starbucks like area in the lobby and the trolley right out the doors of the hotel for a buck or so to ride. The staff is quite accommodating and can help you navigate wherever you wish to go. My only beef with the hotel are the bed pillows. They are flat as a board and you have to use all three for support...no big deal! Great spot to stay in New Orleans central."

"This was a great place to stay! I left my car with the valet, who was very warm and friendly, he took my name and asked if I needed help with my luggage. Then I walk in to check in for my stay, when the clerk said ' Welcome Mr Johnson'. This place was very clean. I only had two problems, one the tv went out for a few minutes, this only happened two or three times and was probably the cable. The other problem was i couldn't get the water to a comfortable temp, it seemed to be too hot or too cool, but overall I had a very nice stay. And it was only a short block to Canal and one more block to Rue Bourbon. Let the good times roll!"

"I was very pleased with our stay @ the Royal St. Charles. The room rate that we got was great so we decided to upgrade to a balcony suite...It was unreal how big it was.......... very pleased, the only draw back was how loud it was with the trolley being right there. The hotel is in close enough distance for you to walk to the French Quarter, but far enough away if you wanted to escape it too. Before we booked our room I read that the hotel/rooms are VERY cold...well in fact that was not the case it was pleasantly comfortable. The staff was very helpful and polite. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Can't wait to come back!!!"

When we told the front desk, that we paid for a deluxe room, we were told all the rooms were deluxe. That was not a deluxe room it was a box.
