This is a great hotel if you want to be in walking distance of it all! (be aware -- one exit puts you out right in front of Rick's Cabaret! But that is what being on Bourbon is all about.) Beautiful hotel! Staff was helpful and friendly. We did not have a chance to eat or drink in the hotel itself, but our room and room floor was so quiet for being in the middle of all the action. I loved being able to walk to all the great restaurants in the French Quarter. It is classy and worth staying a... Read more

We really enjoyed our stay! The hotel had a year long renovation and they did a great job with it. The only downfall we had was requesting a king size bed & pool view. The king rooms are on the exterior of the building so we had to get 2 queen beds for the view. The beds were so comfortable! There's a great jazz club on the first floor as well as an upscale restaurant. We were on the "club" level on the 7th floor. Breakfast and afternoon hot snacks were available. We stayed here on a cross country trip. It was our fourth hotel stop form NY. We booked this one as it had a four star rating on our travel site and wanted something a little nicer for the three day stop over in New Orleans. I was glad it was in the historic district so we could just park the car and walk everywhere. Hotel has on site parking and valet to take bags up. My husband and I have been to New Orleans a half a dozen times, but since our visit was limited to just one night we decided to stay in the French Quarter. I found a great deal and decided to try the Royal Sonesta as I had been by it several times in the past. Checking in, the registrant asked where we would prefer to stay. I hoped to swim each day so he placed us conveniently on the third floor where the outdoor pool is located. He then invited us to a complimentary happy hour in the Irwin ... Read more

We were fortunate enough to stay in a side balcony sweet away from Bourbon with our friends. It was an over-the-top experience. The weather was absolutely perfect, the view was grand, noise level non bothersome. We even had a little entertainment from a Second Line Dance come down our alley!!! The evening entertainment in Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse was outstanding!!!!

We recently stayed at the Royal Sonesta and have nothing but good to say about it. The location is great, right in the centre of the French quarter. The staff were really friendly and the room was a good size. I requested a balcony room which was facing down a side street, it was noisy but not too much. I would definitely recommend and would love to go back for another stay!

Recently stayed here for a get-away weekend with one of my oldest and dearest friends. The location was great, close to everything. Bourbon Street itself was quite filthy but they did their best to clean it each morning. The staff were helpful and friendly. The band at the bar on Saturday night were phenomenal! The pool was fun, we made our own drinks in the room instead of buying them there. Weather was great, not to humid. Breakfast was decent but a bit expensive. The only complaint is that t... Read more

We didn't expect to love it based on the reviews by others...but WE DID LOVE IT. What a great place in the middle of everything. My brother, my son and I were on a No Guts; No Glory family trip to NOLA, and I picked the Royal Sonesta because it was on Bourbon Street. We were told to bring ear plugs - not necessary. We upgraded to "R" level. Wonderful rooms, very quiet, great breakfast and cocktail hour. What really made it extremely special was the personal and caring service we received from our concierge, Darin Stearns. He went out of his way to suggest and book day trips and restaurants and took time to tell us things about the city. On the way home, all agreed that he was the favorite part of our trip!

I loved my stay at the Royal Sonesta -- and actually, it was the night of Rihanna's concert and all of her people were staying at the hotel too, so there was a bit of security going on, but the hotel was still top notch. The rooms are small, but very stylish with nothing lacking. The hotel IS in the heart of Bourbon Street, so if you're not on the pool side, expect some noise and ask for earbuds (which are provided in your room). Not the best, but not the worst. I had to ask for a new room because the noise from outside was keeping me up (the hotel is ON bourbon street, so expect to hear some noise in your room, especially if you're on a lower floor). The front desk was extremely friendly, understanding, and helpful and were more than willing to find me a quieter room away from some of the street noise. The rooms are newly renovated with newer beds and nice bathrooms. The pool looked nice too. I won't return though.

This is one of the most photographed corners on Bourbon Street. The hotel is so nice and the staff so friendly. We were on our way to Florida for a 2 week vacation and wanted a great place to stay one night to break up a 12 hour road trip. This was a great adventure. We sat out on the balcony to do a little people watching and then headed down to the ouster bar for a snack. The food was great and the service very professional.

If you want a high quality hotel close to the action on Bourbon St it doesn't get much better than this. For those concerned about the noise there are interior courtyard rooms (my choice) that are very quiet. Exterior rooms on Bourbon St would be a challenge - even with earplugs (which they provide). Live jazz in the hotel every night is a bonus, and a great way to end the evening before turning in.

Stayed here 7 nights in early June. From the moment we walked in to the beautiful lobby through to our last night, the stay was fantastic. Beautiful, well appointed guest room and lobby. Fantastic, accomodating staff. Only part we did not enjoy was the strange number of towels in our room daily. Got a great hotel/flight package deal for a Mon-Fri stay. Loved being right on Bourbon, but delighted to discover how peaceful the room was. Not a peep. Thoroughly enjoyed the jazz club downstairs. So great to come back at night and enjoy a drink with phenomenal music before heading to bed. Room was spotless. Service was excellent. Several years ago we stayed at this hotel and opted for the most reasonably priced room. The room was disappointing to say the least. This year we splurged and sprung for a room with a balcony overlooking Bourbon St. What a difference. We (my wife, our dog, and I) had a wonderful time watching the folks amble along Bourbon St. We had a great view of the local guys who dance for tips and there was 24/7 live outdoor music of all genres directly across the street. Walking around Bourbon St can get a little overwhelming with hustlers and the crowds so it was perfect to be able to get a few drinks, walk around, and bring the drinks up to our room and recoup and people watch from a distance before jumping back in the madness. We have been staying at the Royal Sonesta for over 20 years. We've seen the ups and downs and the recent remodeling of rooms. We always get a balcony room on Bourbon Street. it is loud all night long so if you don't like the energy don't stay on the Bourbon Street side...we stay there because when we are done having fun on Bourbon Street we head to our room, sit on the balcony and people watch...New Orleans flavor, so fun. I attended this hotel for work meeting. Conference accommodations and food were VERY good. Great location on Bourbon Street. The hotel is across the street from a couple nudie bars, so in the middle of the night you could hear LOUD "woo'ing" from male passers-by. The hotel provides ear plugs, but would recommend to ONLY stay here if you DO NOT stay on the Bourbon Street side of the hotel.

I booked a single queen room and really enjoyed the staff upon arriving. They were very friendly despite it being a busy check in time. It was a very long walk to the room but it was beautifully decorated! It reminded me of a chic NY room but was very small, I felt like I needed to stay on the bed the whole time. However, the shower was huge! I would return again.
