This sophisticated mansion offers all the amenities of a grand hotel with the intimacy and personal service found in a fine New Orleans home. With nine modern styled decorated suites in the mansion itself, and five additional suites in the Napolean House located behind the mansion, some visitors come to find the mysteries that lie behind these century old shutters. For others, it is the curiosity to experience what it is like to unwind and enjoy the luxuries of a beautifully restored Victorian Mansion after a recent $2 million renovation. At the completely NON SMOKING Melrose, the attention to detail will make you feel uniquely New Orleans.

The Melrose is a classic courtyard mansion with large French windows, roomy balconies with fingerlace ironwork, and pillared verandas. A grand staircase takes guests to their rooms.

Each suite showcases antique furnishings, shuttered windows, ebony-stained hardwood floors, and cathedral ceilings with large chandeliers. All suites have a king or queen-sized bed and an array of modern luxuries: 350-thread count linens, wireless internet, mini-fridge, a large flat-screen LCD television, and an iPod docking station. The ever popular Donecio Suite has been called `the most romantic bedroom in New Orleans` and is a favorite with honeymooners.

A light continental breakfast is served daily and can be enjoyed in the parlor or poolside. There is a small on-site gym well-equipped with free weights and cardiovascular and strength machines. And a new on-site hair salon is a nice addition to the neighborhood.

When not exploring the historic streets of the French Quarter, walk back to the Melrose and splash into the refreshing pool or relax on a lounge chair and gaze at the tropical lushness that surrounds you.

Take I-10 East to the I-10/610 split, pass the ``New Orleans Business District`` and merge right at the Slidell/1-10 split. Continue on I-10 to the exit AFTER ``Orleans Avenue/Vieux Carre`` exit (235-A) and exit at ESPLANADE AVENUE. Follow exit ramp and take the first right at the light onto Esplanade Avenue. Go appoximately 6 blocks down and the hotel will be on the left. Make the next U-turn and hotel will be on the right.

From I-10 East and Slidell

Exit at Orleans/Vieux Carre exit. At the end of the ramp, take a left at the light. Follow Orleans Avenue (which will go back under the Interstate) for 3 blocks until you reach the U-turn on Orleans at the sign that reads ``N. Rampart via Toulouse.`` Immediately merge into the far right lane which will lead you to the Toulouse entrance into the French Quarter. Take a left at the light onto North Rampart which borders the French Quarter for approximately 9 blocks. Turn right onto Esplanade Avenue and go approximately 3 blocks. Hotel will be on your left. Take the next U-turn nad hotel will be on your right.

"We decided to stay at the Melrose Mansion to experience something different than the normal hotel stay. It truly felt like a home away from a home. The suite we had was very nice it was like staying in a one bedrooom apartment. However, I was expecting a more clean room. Our bedding had to be changed when we arrived. Also, towels are very hard to receive and when you do receive them you find hair on them. Our sink was also dirty from the previous occupants. House cleaning had to clean the sink as well. We also experienced a drainage issue in the bathroom.You pay the resort fee of $12, but I was very disappointed that the Melrose did not over a computer so you could at least print your boarding passes. The wine hour is not what you would expect. I also looked at the previous reviews before selecting this property, however I didnt think the breakfast would be as bad as the reviews said; it was and nothing to get out of bed for. For the price I just expected it to meet the standards and it didnt."

"This was our first trip to New Orleans and wanted to experience the nightlife. Melrose Mansion is within walking distance but it is a long walk. The continental breakfast wasn't much. Kid cereal, packaged pastry and not much more. In NY high end hotels, there would be fresh fruits, eggs, bagels, and more variety. When I booked through Book-It, I paid for the breakfast upgrade and to our surprise we were charged again at check-in. There's no microwaves, no refridgerators in the room, no coffee makers in the room. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was O.K. but the room wasn't restocked with toiletries without asking for it. We were told there is 24 security cameras with audio watching the building and grounds. This made my wife uncomfortable. I would say it was an average place to stay. It was quiet when we were there. Overpriced, we expected more."

"I booked this place because it was stated it was quiet and away from Bourbon St & I am a senior citizen. This was my 1st visit to NOLA. I thought the room was gorgeous esp the beautiful bathroom but it was far from quiet. I was not informed the hotel had booked a wedding bash for 2 nights and the entire place was open for that! My room was located right next to the 'party room' and they drank and literally screamed all night long. The girls screaming reminded me of kindergarteners playing on a playground. There is a door that separates the party room from my room but they would not keep it closed although we asked them to. I am on a budget and had planned on the morning breakfast they serve into my budget. The hotel seemed stingy with keeping it stocked. Had to ask for hot water to make tea. Same food every day too but it ran out fast if you werent there early. The wine and cheese promised every night? Had to ask for that also and they brought it to the room which was nice but we only had it once and stayed there 6 days. . They didn't restock the room each day. Had to ask for toilet paper once & toiletries every day. Also the hot water in the shower runs out fast and once I had to wait for it to reheat to finish washing my hair. The bed was way too soft and the city trash got picked up outside my room at 5:30 am so that was not quiet either. My room was right next to the ice machine also. They keep the front door to the place locked and I was told the bell doesnt work when i asked why noone answered the door when i wanted to check in. Lucky for me I had read online to go along the side by the pool and get in that way! The staff was very helpful when needing any assistance with directions or checking something online. One last thing was when you come in a night they have loud Jazz music playing in the breakfast room. Although I like Jazz I dont like it loud when it is supposed to be a quiet place to stay. Besides my discontent with the Melrose Mansion I had a fabulous time in NOLA and did my fair share of shopping, tours, eating the cuisine of the area and walking. I was glad to do all that walking to the hotel from the French Quarter althoguh it was kind of spooky after dark. I saw alot of homeless people in NOLA. I will go back again someday but i wont stay at the Melrose Mansion."

"Great Hotel, Great Location, wonderful rooms. Save your $ on the extra amenities though, I paid extra to have some wine and rose pedals etc in the room and didn't feel it was nearly worth it. The staff were friendly and great people, could use a little work on knowing where to eat and being able to get you reservations...maybe a prepared list of hotel recommendations would help? Overall loved the place and will return."

"Overall the place is nice. Convenient and quiet location but be prepared to do some walking over busted up sidewalks and streets. Our problem with the hotel was the location of our room right next to their laundry facility which runs all the time! I complained about garbage and bags of laundry laying in front of our room 3 times and while they moved it, it appears again each day as they clean. I get that they have to use that area but staff would congregate there in the morning and chat. Problem is the door to our room is within 5 feet and we felt like we were not in a private setting. I'm sure the other rooms are nice, we had a nice room, but you might as well help them do the laundry its so close!"

The location was awesome - within walking distance to everything in the French quarter yet far enough away from all the madness.
