Historical Facts About the Property!

The Andrew Jackson French Quarter Hotel, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located on the site of the famous courthouse where Major General Andrew Jackson was indicted for contempt of court and charged with obstruction of justice. A major general in the War of 1812, Jackson became a national hero when he defeated the British at New Orleans. Jackson incurred the charges of obstruction when he imprisoned the judge who had charged him with contempt. When the future President of the United States appeared in court, he refused to answer the interrogatories and promptly received a fine of $1,000. In 1844, congress ordered the fine with interest ($2,700) to be repaid.

Leaving the courthouse that day, Jackson stopped and spoke to a large crowd that had gathered :
``I have during the invasion of New Orleans exerted every one of my faculties for the defense and preservation of the Constitution and the laws. On this day I have been called upon to submit to their operations, under circumstances which many persons might have thought sufficient to justify resistance considering obedience to the laws, even when we think them unjustly applied, is the first duty of the citizen, and I do not hesitate to comply with the sentence you have heard pronounced; and I entreat you to remember the example I have given you of respectful submission to the administration of justice.``

"my room had a very small bathroom and as stated before, the carpet needs updating. otherwise very nice staff, great location for Frenchman street, and quiet. I don't think you can have a fridge or microwave, but the staff warmed food for me from the microwave downstairs. there is no elevator, but only 2 floors."

"First I would like to thank the wonderful staff for being so accommodating,
friendly and informative about what the French Quarter has to offer
you enhance are experience. The location puts you in walking distance
to Jackson Square, the French Market, basically all the attractions in the area.
Although the rooms are small, they are clean. I was informed by the staff

will help with some of the amenities that people have come to expect in

"Neither of us had been to New Orleans, and were happy to be in the heart of it at the Andrew Jackson. This hotel is not a Hilton; it gives you a real feel of the French Quarter. Our room was small, but clean and had everything we needed for the short time we spent in the room. You do need to bring your own hair dryer, but otherwise its great. We especially enjoyed a late-night takeout from Marte Verdi in the courtyard. We will definitely stay here again."

"Yes, the rooms are small. If your vacation goal is to be pampered in a fancy hotel, then you should consider a different room. They do have larger rooms near the front of the courtyard though I'm not sure of the cost difference. If you want to see the city and plan on showering and sleeping in your room, then this place is perfect. Overall, we had a great experience at the Andrew Jackson. The staff was friendly, some more than others, but nobody was rude at all. This is an old building, but the updates to the room make it more modern. We had an air conditioner that we could control and tv, not that we watched it much. (But the air...aaaah! We needed that, NOLA is hawt!). nWhen we arrived, the lobby had a shabby chic feel, but was certainly clean. We saw the staff working constantly to keep it that way. The man who checked us is was very helpful in sending us to the right place for a little grub. His suggestions were great and easy to get to. While some of the front desk staff was exceptionally friendly, some of them were a little less so, presumably because they worked the night shift and had to deal with lots of wild partygoers. However, a little sugar on my part went a long way and I even got a smile or two out of the night shift. This hotel is as close to the action as I want to be. Bourbon is a block or so over: far enough to muffle the endless noise but close enough to stumble home if that's your thing. nnThe cons:nBreakfast is coffee and donuts, plain and simple. We didn't care because we were on a culinary mission that included breakfast elsewhere. There is Community Coffee shop less than a block away and plenty of more substantial dining options nearby, so no biggie. nThe rooms are small. Again, if a large room is the highlight of your vacation, the French Quarter has plenty of other options. Andrew Jackson also has some bigger rooms, so you may want to inquire. nnI don't really have anything *bad* to say about it. Close to everything, affordable, clean and friendly. What more can you ask for? "

"We went down for the French Quarter Festival in April 2012 and loved every bit of it. Our room was small, but had everything we needed - the location was key. I've been to New Orleans about a dozen times and always stay in the Quarter in a 'older' hotel or B&B. This hotel had a great New Orleans feel - cute courtyard, quaint rooms, friendly staff. Those who are not familiar with the charm of the Quarter might complain about the 'dated amenities' or 'cramped rooms' - but they were perfect for us. We'll be back."

"Well the rooms are very small.They have no blow dryers.The room i had was up some stairs,like a studio apartment,but on the stairs were lights that do not turn off.I dint like sleeping with lights on.So that was a little annoying.Sink in bathroom was a stand up one with no counter space at all.On the positive side the courtyard was nice,many people hang out in it and meet alot of fun people,but at night could here all the talking and commotion going on.It was kinda loud.Great location,really loved that"
