My son and I stayed here on a college tour visit. The staff was friendly and room was clean. Unfortunately we had a really clogged shower drain. I was standing in 8" of water by the time my shower finished and then it took a good 25 minutes for the water to drain. The staff at the front desk seemed embarrassed when I told them and says they'd take care of it. Good variety for their continental breakfast. Wish they had more than two juice choices though.

Nice room, good breakfast, Drake neighborhood. It felt like we were in a residential neighborhood! Right at the edge of the campus. Easy to get to anything in Des Moines from here. Efficient staff. Cute little diner right next door.

Staff very nice and place clean; breakfast huge and served for long time 6.30 am to 10.30 am. Available coffee all day in rooms and at the lobby. Complementary cockies at the front desk after 4 pm. Spacious rooms and nice restaurants within a walking distance.

I really enjoyed staying here in the Holiday Inn and wish I could have stayed longer actually. It is one of the few quiet hotels that is near Des Moines that you don't hear constant freeway traffic. Made me feel like I was in San Francisco again only it was Des Moines. Des Moines is a pretty cool hip town with lots going on. I didn't see any ghettos either in the area or crime. I first wanted this place when I arrived on my first day to the Des Moines area but it was too late and the guy alread... Read more

Graduation weekend stay. Excellent staff and service. They went the extra mile when we had a family emergency at home and had to check out a day early. Helped us find the nearest bus station to send a relative home. Have stayed her over a dozen times over the past 4 years. Great every time and would recommend to others. Spacious rooms, good breakfast.

Front desk was very helpful with giving us information on the restaurant next door, we had a king room that was very large & a wonderful breakfast, with fresh made pancakes, sausage, bacon, biscuits & gravy. We have no complaints, room was clean, bed was comfortable, food good & kept fresh.

On arrival we noted that the housekeeping carts and filthy linen were sitting around in the lobby. However, it was similar when we left and generally. The housekeeping of this hotel is poorly supervised although they are pleasant enough. The hotel is high priced for a hotel of this level. The tap water was repulsive, redolent of IODINE or some other chemicals - basically undrinkable. I mentioned this to the front desk and they had no explanation. It is NOT because Des Moines water is like that.... Read more

Clean and functional. The newly renovated fitness center was a disappointment as was the breakfast. The room was nice with several wall based USB-ports for charging, really something for other hotels to learn from.

my party of four were very happy with the size of the rooms and were very clean and the beds great to sleep on with nice comfortable pillows. The Inn was really quiet and close to Drakes diner which is excellent. As my granddaughter and daughter were in des monies for a visit to the university we found it very hand to walk there. They let us have a early check in and late check out at no extra cost and the staff were really helpful and friendly. The breakfast was more than adequate in fact it ... Read more

The approach to the hotel is strange, almost sketchy. It's a residential area, so don't think you're in the wrong place. The hotel was actually really great. The desk staff was extremely polite and helpful. The hotel was quiet. I was mildly concerned about noise being on a college campus, but had absolutely no problems. Good breakfast options for for this level of hotel. The beds were relatively comfortable. Great showerheads, which is a huge compliment for a hotel in my book. I'd definitely sta... Read more

I stayed here 4 nights in July 2016. Check in was fast and friendly. I had a room on the first floor. My room was regular size. I was told this place was once a dorm for the University. Then it became the Drake Hotel, and then it became the Holiday Inn Express. It is very close to the Drake University. You can easily walk to the University. I walked thru the University a couple of times. The University is very nice. Next to the Holiday Inn Express/Drake is the Drake Diner. It is righ... Read more

Room was very nice. Exceptionally clean and neat. The buffet breakfast was diversified and tasted great. Our waitress was outstanding and always had a smile. I would recommend the motel to anyone. The only downside is the proximity of the motel to the freeway traffic.

Great hotel. Quiet, clean, modern and comfortable hotel. Located right next to Drake University. Diner for late night food is located right next door. The rooms are extremely clean and the beds and pillows are super comfortable. The front desk staff is friendly and accommodating. Free in room internet. Great great stay.

Place was awesome, breakfast was decent, yes there is NO pool but who really needs an oversized bathtub anyway rooms were clean, they only offer double queen rooms so no issues here. Customer service was very good

The building used to be a dorm, but has been changed into a hotel. It's homey and comfortable - we had a room with a "patio" - that is, it led out into the courtyard. Wifi was faster than at home, and it was free. I've been in fancier places, but this was fine! Loved it that there is a microwave and fridge in the room. Oddly, also, a dehumidifier - but we really needed it since Des Moines' weather was wet, in the 90's, and totally humid. And the air conditioner worked well. And the shower... Read more

Like other reviewers have stated. It is clean, modern and the closeness to Drake University is great. The Drake Diner right nextdoor is wonderful. The breakfast is adequate; beats paying somewhere else. This was our second stay.

This inn is located in a questionable neighborhood and is in need of a remodel. Wallpaper was peeling off of the bathroom wall and the bathroom could have been cleaner. The air conditioner is rather loud and made it difficult to fall asleep. The courtyard is nothing special and we left the sliding door locked because of the iffy neighborhood. We had a 6:30 departure and the breakfast room was still dark so no food to go. Also no one at the front desk when we checked out. Won't return.

Stopped here for 2 nights whilst in town on business. its a little way out of town, but just off a main highway, but far enough away that its quiet (its in a residential area). Staff were friendly, and service was as you would expect from a Holiday Inn Express. good breakfast helps to set the day up (although why have microwave porridge if there is no microwave?). Free parking (and plenty of it), you'll need a car here, as there is not a lot close at hand... there is a diner next door, which is... Read more

A return visit to the Holiday Inn Express/Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, was a welcome retreat from those larger hotels and motels out by the interstates. Situated in the heart of "DogTown" (Drake University's immediate neighborhood), you are within walking distance of unique restaurants and stores, as well as the independent Varsity Theater. The rooms were clean, and the bed comfortable. I love that you had the option of a bath or a shower. One drawback, however, was the broken drain... Read more
