New HI Express near downtown Des Moines. I like the design and amenities of the new HI Express's. Great for business travelers because of the desk/work area and the fact that lot's of electrical outlets are available. Good fitness room with variety of machines and free weights. Service staff was great every time I have stayed. Restaurants/bars nearby which you can walk to depending on the weather, otherwise hotel shuttle available.

This hotel is very new and it's always fun to stay in a shiny new place before our collective mass has beaten the heck out of it, but this one has a few problems out of the gate. The bathroom door was really heavy--noteworthy, put-your-shoulder-into-it, kids can't close it without help, heavy--but didn't provide any more of a sound barrier than usual. In fact, the bathroom fan, which we use more for spare-me-all-the-gory-details sound override and white noise was barely audible. The "kitche... Read more

this is a new hotel in the downtown Des Moines area. Highly recommend this facility if you are looking for a place in the downtown area. It is close to activities and easy to access all the major interstates around the Des Moines area. The staff was absolutely wonderful and knowledgeable in helping us find and locate attractions we were looking for. Rooms were very clean and beds were a dream with great pillows. The rooms have darkening shades which provided a chance for us to sleep in lat... Read more

We booked a two-bed suite which cost me $189. The sleep area and bed area were separated by a short half-wall (not separate rooms). Facility is new so it was very clean. The indoor pool area is very small and only had about 5 or 6 chairs so we ended up standing to watch our kids swim. While we were there (on Friday, May 13th), a group of middle school girls got stuck in the elevator! It jerked and made a very loud sound before stopping between floors. I highly recommend the stairs!! The worst pa... Read more

Brand-spanking new hotel, elegant room design, clean, tidy... endlessly friendly (think "Iowans") staff. New fridge and microwave, lots of space for hangers and for writing things down. Beds are comfy.

A nice new property with a cool modern design. Rooms were nice, an interesting sofa that was a real piece of furniture rather than just a throw-in sofa. Hallways were modern as well, and my wife loved the LARGE floor numbers painted in different colors for each floor visible from the elevator. Practical, fun and smart. Nice staff, friendly and sincere. Swimming pool and hot tub nice features, as well as a fairly spacious breakfast area. Location a bit next to nothing, but right near downt... Read more

This hotel is relatively new (4 months old when I stayed) and it shows. All aspects of the hotel were clean and refreshing. It is easy to see that the staff does an excellent job of maintaining the property. It is easy to get to, not far from the airport and in a pretty central location to allow going downtown or to the park. The modern design shows in the room where you have a Keurig coffee pot, a mini fridge, and automatic blinds. I had a king room and it was spacious, with separate seating as... Read more

It's located in the new downtown. Des Moines is going through a growth spurt. The hotel is located in a newer section, on the fringe of the original downtown. Lots of new condos, apartments, restaurants, coffee shops, bike and walking trails. Minor league baseball stadium is nearby. Breakfast had items to meet most diets. Pool was cold Spa pool was perfect.

Just went to the Goodguys car show over the weekend. This hotel worked perfect. Only 5 miles from the fair grounds, close to down town, but also not far from I-35. We arrived early and asked if any rooms were available for early check in. The super nice guy up front said no rooms were available yet, but instead of turning us away, as he had every right to do, as it was only 12:30 and checkin wasn't until 3pm, but he checked with the cleaning staff and found a room that was ready! Only complaint... Read more

This was a nice newer hotel. It was a stretch to say downtown, about a mile or more walk. But it was clean and bright and quiet. The bed was nice. The room was well lit although it kind of looked like a dorm room. I loved the bathroom!

Spacious room, excellent staff, very convenient shuttle, more than adequate breakfast, large parking lot, close enough to downtown to go walking. It is a very clean hotel with facilities that are very new.

Great friendly service. The staff could not do enough for you. Shuttle service available, however we walked to Centro restaurant which was outstanding. Very safe city. This hotel is fairly new, nothing not too like. To be honest it could be actually over staffed, which demonstrates their commitment to service.

I was in town for work and this hotel was suggested, as it's right next to downtown. You couldn't ask for a better location! The hotel is new and very modern. The decorating is a little "too" modern for my taste, but it's very nice. My room was very clean and comfortable. Staff were great-very friendly. The breakfast was nice-something for everyone. Overall, it was a great stay and I'll be staying here again.

10 minutes from the airport. I was checked in in a minute. Was very happy with the large bed room, which in my case had 2 large beds. I got lost in the one I used. Although I didn't need it, there was a decent fridge and microwave, but I did enjoy the coffee machine. Bathroom was well designed. Although there is a railroad a 100-200 yard from the hotel, you can occasionally hear the hooting of the engine. So be it, so can everyone else. For the rest the sound proofing is perfect. I didn't use t... Read more

This place is very attractive. Great color scheme. Tasteful but not boring patterns in fabric, wallpaper and carpets. I liked the glass doored showers. The staff were incredibly helpful and genuine. I used the shuttle service numerous times a day. The drivers were always really cool to talk to. I appreciate the breakfast but would like to see the quality of food improved a little. Half and half should be in a pitcher, not in tiny "serving sized" disposible cups that I have to use 10 of each time... Read more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in June 2016. The day we checked out, I realized that I had left 2 brand new items of clothing in the wardrobe. I immediately called the hotel. The desk clerk said that there was no one staying in the room, however, he could not find my clothes in the wardrobe or anywhere else in the hotel. From the time we checked out to the time I called, the only people who had access to the room were hotel staff. The clothing was either lost or stolen. After severa... Read more

Occupied two suites with 6 adults and 3 kids and everyone loved the place! Rooms were spacious and modern. Comfortable beds and large bathroom. Pool area was nice and the complimentary breakfast was one of the best I've ever seen. Staff was great as well. It wasn't in the most walkable of areas but I would still highly recommend.

Excellent stay at this hotel. Location is just on the edge of downtown, but close enough to walk to. There is also a park (Grays Lake) nearby with a beautiful 2 mile walking path. Hotel is newish, so everything is still fresh. Everyone we dealt with at the hotel was friendly and helpful. Room was a nice size with very functional furniture. It was also very quiet. I am the VP of a hotel chain in the Southwest. I am a tough critic when staying at other hotels as I know what I expect in a stay. This hotel was stunning at under 1 year old and the architecture was well done. The rooms were modern and laid out well. The windows gave a magnificent view of the city. I didn't even have to sit up in bed to take a picture of the sun rise. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Always a kind word and smile when you passed the front desk. We stay at HIE locations very often, so I know what to expect. This one, however, went above and beyond. The beds were comfortable, location was good to downtown, breakfast was good as always and the shower was fantastic. However, do not think you can walk to places from this hotel. It is a little removed across the tracks away from downtown nightlife. The view of downtown skyline was even a welcomed surprise. I think we will definitely stay here again if in the area.

The staff was friendly, and the hotel was very clean. Breakfast was standard for a Holiday Inn Express. What I most enjoyed was A) location and B) the rooms. The location is near downtown and right on a walking trail. You can easily walk to anything in the downtown area within a few minutes (for those who don't want to walk, I also saw a shuttle. I didn't use it, so I can't comment on it.) The rooms are also worth commenting on. They were quiet, comfortable, and had a fantastic shower.

We decided to go on a weekend trip to Des Moines and visit the Farmer's Market, Prarie Meadows, and watch the Cubs at a bar. For the first time, we stayed at the new Holiday Inn Express. What a gem of a hotel! From the minute you arrive, you are given the royal treatment. Don't worry about being on the skywalk because the hotel has a free shuttle to anywhere within a five mile radius. They will drop you off and pick you up when you are ready to return. On the drive in you may think that you are going away from downtown, but actually this place is really well located as everywhere is walkable. The guy who checked us in (sorry I didn't get his name but he was great - 9th October at about 3pm) was extremely friendly, giving advice on places to go for food in the evening and he gave us plentiful change for the laundry facilities (a must at the end of a road trip). The hotel was clean and quiet, but staff was less than accommodating. Our questions were deflected and staff was not prepared for accommodating marathon runners with shuttle, late check outs etc. Never again will we stay here! We were asked 4-5 different times over the course of 2 weeks to "check back" about a late check out then at last minute were told no because we weren't apart of a "group." The hotel is relatively new (opened Feb 16) and still has a new feel about it. Very friendly and helpful welcome. The room was large, clean and good facilities. It's location to local eating places was very good with a great selection being only 0.5 miles away, however the hotel provides transport and will collect you also - so you can have a beer or two.

The hotel was clean and tidy as was our rooms which were large and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful and pointed us in the right direction to find a few pups nearby. It was only a ten minute walk to where most the activities were so we decided to do this rather than grab a taxi or use the hotel transport that will quite happily ferry you there and back. Would happily stay here again.
