I am not a fan of hotels at all. I have many fears of how nasty one can be and how the hotel staff are. But Hampton Inn in Gurnee Illinois, blew me away. Their staff was so friendly and helpful. Did not have a good experience here. We booked three rooms - 2 with 2 double beds and 1 king. We got there and they had 3 double beds. We were with a group all on the 2nd floor and they switched the king to the 4th floor. Then we were with 13 boys who wanted to use the outdoor pool and they said it wasn't heated so they could not use it the entire weekend we were there!! They did not even say they would give us a discount for this - since this is part of the price of the hotel room! The 2n... Read more

This hotel has clean sheets and blankets daily. They treat you like a great customer. I received bottle water upon check in. Cookies and coffee in the lobby was a great snack. I also received a call from the front desk asking how everything was with the room when I first checked in the room. I would definitely return.

We frequently travel to Gurnee to spend weekends at Six Flags. This is the first time we stayed at the Hampton, and we were very happy. The room was clean, the staff was friendly, and the breakfast was very good. The hotel is very close to the park, and there is a wide selection of restaurants within walking distance. We will definitely stay here again.

As with most Hamptons they were once again consistent with good service, clean rooms and comfortable beds. This hotel is located quite nicely next to the freeway. It's far enough you hear the noise yet close enough to hop right on. The location was a major plus as you can come and go from many directions quite easily. The complimentary breakfast had lots to choose from and made it easy to grab something on the go. The bed and bedding were very comfortable and I would happily return to this hotel... Read more

I cannot believe this hotel gets ANY rave reviews, upon check in our room was dirty. The curtains and carpets smelled bad! Before bringing in our luggage, we always do a bedbug check, our room failed. We brought this to the attention of the front desk, they were understanding, apologetic, and kind, but we didn't spend the night. We had booked at another hotel in the area and it was below par so had to find a hotel quick and for a group of 10 rooms. Jenny the manager onsite heard me out about the horrible stay I had at the other hotel and she price matched the hotel and offered early check in. Gave our team a Meeting room and made our stay a very pleasant and welcomed stay. Sometimes I'm hesitant to see if a hotel has smoking rooms because they seem to be less cared for. Nonetheless, I had a smoking room on the 5th floor, which was located at the end of the hallway and away from the elevator--great and a rare find! The stay at this hotel was very pleasant. I do encourage that you double-check to see how many family member could stay in one room. Normally, If you are traveling with small children, you do not want your children in a separate room. I would highly recommend a family size of 4 for these rooms. The room were kind of small compared to other hotels where I've stayed in the past. It was a nice and well kept room though. The staff was very friendly and helpful with any issues that I had. No free water for HHonors members which was very disappointing. Also, the outdoor pool appeared to be shared with the Super 8 that was next door. This hotel had easy access to Great America plus other attractions. Although there wasn't a free shuttle, I have found that surrounding hotels with this service take 30 to 40 minutes to come pick you up while you wait in the middle of a parking lot. Stayed at the Hampton Inn in Gurnee, IL, the price was very reasonable, but I wasn't impressed by the room. The bathroom wasn't clean, there was hair in the corners. The drain wasn't screwed into the bathtub, my husband fixed it. The bed linens seemed damp and the bed was just not very comfortable. The room itself was clean, albeit a little dated. Walking to 6 Flags was no issue at all and it took only 10 minutes or so. My sister and I had a fun trip planned to Gurnee. We stayed at the Hampton because we had stayed there several years ago and absolutely loved it. Whether it be new management I am not sure.
