There is nothing particularly special about this hotel. However, the location is great - right on Michigan and great views. I would happily return. Staff were excellent and facilities good. There are bikes to rent outside and a great cycling route around the lake

Beautiful property right across the street from the lake and Navy pier. Located 4 blocks back from Magnificent Mile. Very upscale & trendy property. Open bar and restaurant right in the lobby. The employees were all very helpful and polite. Hello's from everyone we walked by. Room decorated in black and white with very modern pictures on the walls. Great views of the city from our room and Navy Pier & the lake from the front of the property

I just want to start out by explaining why I gave this hotel 4 stars and not 5. The hotel has apparently been redesigned (sometime in the last 5-10 years... Not sure) but the look that the W lakeshore went for was a sexy, swanky and frankly adult hotel. Now I am not a Puritan or have any ill will towards something for being sexy, however when you stay at the hotel I would most definitely prefer that it was with my significant other and not my buddies. Examples include mirrors all over the room, ... Read more

From check-in to check-out, every member of the W Team worked to make my stay enjoyable. It was clear that they recognized and valued my loyalty to the W Brand. I enjoyed a friendly staff, a Lake view room and complimentary cookie and drink delivered to my room. The little things matter during business travel.

We stayed here for the NRA show at mckormick place - great location - great views of the city and of the navy pier Walking distance to most attractions. Easy access to the lakeshore trail for a run, a walk on the beach or a bike ride. Staff at the front office were great and very accommodating. Lounge service also great: our server John was great! Very professional and courteous. Gym a little small; but in the summer, who needs it when you are by the lakeshore.

I'm very very disappointed in my experience at this hotel. There are NO amenities in the room whatsoever. Odd, weird ugly decor, mainly black themed , I feel like I'm in a bad disco. Curtains have a few holes in them. Parking is ridiculously priced at $60 per day and the hotel refused to provide a discount for hotel patrons. No free WiFi either. No menu in room to order room service. Restaurant is average, concierge is awesome.

Our group had two rooms: a "Fabulous Room" and a "Marvelous Suite", both with lake views. The rooms were spacious and comfortable; both rooms had wonderful views of the lake and Navy Pier. These benefits did not, for us, offset the inconveniences associated with this hotel. The first thing to consider is that the atmosphere in the hotel lobby/bar/restaurant from about 6:00 pm on is like that of staying in a nightclub--it is after all a W hotel. The surfaces are hard and sound really carries.... Read more

Stayed for 4 nights with my family (2 kids). Check-in was slow, about a 20 minute line-up. We were offered an upgrade to a King with a rollaway instead of 2 doubles and "a much nicer room" because of our gold SPG status. The room was very clean and modern, but lacked USB plugs. After an hour when the promised rollaway hadn't arrived, we called the front desk. It'd be right up, they promised. It was way past our kids bedtimes. We enjoyed our trip to Chicago at the W Lakeshore. The location is excellent (right accross the beach from Lake Shore Drive). The pedestrian tunnel is a block away to the beach. Usually stay here when in Chicago, always a big fan of the W Brand and their whimsical decor and creativity - some find the staff unfriendly and cold but I beg to differ, think they are great and very service oriented! Rooms has been refurbished, not so much new decor but very fresh and clean - great views overlooking the lake. Staff was amazing! We ate breakfast in the restaurant every day and it was delicious! Rooms were okay - looks like they need a touch up or two. Our fridge was drilled shut. Several places where the paint was chipped, scratched, scuffed. The trim over our bed was missing a bunch of the nailhead trim. Not what we would expect of a W hotel. My wife and I both agree that we would give the hotel a 3.5. We stayed in the fabulous room with a beautiful view of the lake. When I checked in theyhad booked 4 rooms for me. I only booked 2. The receptionist first said I had to deal with the third party that booked the room but then said that she would take care of it. This is a great, central hotel with incredible views of the lake. It has a fun vibe, a great bar and is perfectly located near everything. The only downsides to this hotel is that there are no mini fridges in the room and that parking (valet only) is extremely expensive ($60+) a night. Additionally, note that there is no roof top bar as is indicated on the website.

First, let me say that the hotel as a whole is exquisite and has a hardworking staff. Friendliness, however, is lacking in about half of the staff. The view of the lakeshore from this hotel is unbeatable. The rooms have a nice, dark design color theme to them. They are large and very comfortably laid out.
