We stayed here during odd weekends between January and March, when my mom hurt her back and couldn't walk up our stairs. The low prices for this time of year made it a great value. The lobby is amazing, and I brought my mom around to see the other event rooms - each one is more beautiful than the next. The hotel rooms were fine, sometimes a bit small or noisy, but the experience was wonderful for the grandeur of the place.

This is my second year staying at the Palmer House Hilton, both of my stays have been absolutely wonderful. I think the building of the Palmer house is just outstanding, since I'm a Hilton honors member check it was a breeze and I thought it was really nice that I got a text message to make sure everything was great.

I have written reviews about the Palmer House before and it still has the charm and old style furnishing but it is better that the lone traveller stays here. My wife and I travelled to Chicago on business and on our initial check in we were given a room that would normally be a walk in closet. I had booked a king size bed and the bed in this room was a little over three feet wide. We returned to the desk and were given what we had booked. The hotel has 1600 rooms so none of them is large an... Read more

We love to return to Chicago after living there for 3 years. The Palmer House is quite lovely and located in a great area. It is easy to get around to many attractions by walking , bus or taxi. We had our rental car bu please note the parking is a little pricey. The rooms are nice and large enough for a downtown hotel. The interior of the hotel is very pretty. Tourists come in just to take photos. We enjoyed our stay there and would probably stay there again. Definitely would recommend The Palme... Read more

About as nice as an old landmark hotel can get. Downtown Chicago, near both red and blue line trains. Convenient to shopping, food, pubs, and of course the lake parks. The atrium in this place is spectacular. You gotta stay here if you are ever in town.

I'm a Hilton Honors Gold member, and always choose the Hilton family of hotels for personal travel. This was a business trip, so it wasn't my choice to stay here, but each year my company books a block of rooms for an annual meeting. I never cared for the cramped rooms, but this year was upgraded. The king room was a reasonable size, but the bathroom tiny with peeling wallpaper. The worst part was a complete lack of water pressure, and 1 morning water only trickled out of the warm side of the fa... Read more

I had a room on the executive floor which must be larger than the regular rooms; however, the bathrooms are very small and definitely dated. The Executive rooms are suppose to have a lounge with breakfast, snacks, and a limited bar. While it was there, I could hardly use it as the lounge was being used by everyone and their guests regardless of where they were staying. The keys which limit access were not working. As a fellow guest advised: this is worse than a bus station! The service was p... Read more

A nice and clean hotel, perfectly located close to Michigan avenue. Serviceminded staff, especially the older woman in the concierge. We will be back next time in Chicago! Book your parking separately in the same parking house since it was much cheaper!

Great accomodations, close to Loop fun, trains, buses. fine service, wealth of knowledge, their people are real. Hiltons are always reasonably priced and standards are high. Chicago has 200 new hotel rooms in 2016. This is still one of the best.

Chose this hotel based on it's history and close proximity to everything. Was not disappointed. I booked a 2 bed 2 bath room on the 16th floor. It was clean, quiet, and spacious. Comfy beds, clean bathroom. Lobby is beautiful, bell persons were helpful and speedy with our bags. After a night out in Old Town where we were served cocktails with rotten mint and old lime we went back to the hotel to have a night cap at the lobby bar. Fresh, delicious drinks served by an experienced bartender. ... Read more

If you enjoy hotels rich in history, you must stay at the Palmer. This hotel is a treasure, with an extraordinary ornamental interior in the French Empire style. The lobby is stunning, with a ceiling by French-muralist Louis Pierre Rigal who painted the 21 individual paintings on the ceiling. Don't miss the Peacock Doors at the Monroe Street entrance.

I would say that the hotel lives up to it's reputation. It is beautiful and historic, but also convenient and comfortable. The executive lounge had ups and downs.......breakfast was dismal I especially missed having a meat option. Dinner was a tasty main dish, but again I missed having a sweet option. Sometimes you just need a cookie. On the flip side, it is always nice to get diamond benefits, even when staying on a conference rate.

The Palmer Hotel has rooms that take you back to the 1900's... Staying in Downtown Chicago for business, the Palmer house is centrally located and serves as a great base station for most activities. Rooms are adequate..actually had many more electrical outlets than most rooms...to connect all one's electronics. as a HH member I had free WIFI...a great reason to join the program...

Convenient location and the hotel has an inviting, historic feel but very clean with no "old" smell or feel. There are several shops including a Starbucks and breakfast spot on the bottom floor which is really nice. Bathrooms are small but that's okay with me - room was very spacious.

Good location, clean, classy look to this beautiful, historical building. We booked with a 3rd party company, so naturally our room overlooked a light well. No in room wifi available, no complimentary coffee. Bathroom was cramped, toiletries were suitable. Some porcelain tub scratches needed repair and the room was comfortable. Spent two nights at the Palmer House as Hilton Honors members. The pros - the location is great, the beds are very comfortable and the architecture and art in the lobby is just beautiful. The cons - I felt like I was on a crowded cruise ship. The hotel is ridiculously crowded (there are like 1,500 rooms) so people are everywhere. There is no personal service (although the valet guys were friendly and happy) and the rooms were nothing great. The bathrooms are worn down and they are so small two p... Read more

We always try to stay at historic hotels and The Palmer House is beautiful! Wish we had more time to see it all. Location perfect, the Art Institute a block an a half? The L is a bock+ up. The beds were soooo restful after walking around all day. Great buffet in the morning. The staff is great and the doormen are happy to give you directions. Wish we could have checked out the pool. Oh, the lobby in the evening is like going back in time with the live music playing.

We were very impressed by our recent stay at the Palmer House. Unlike many grand old hotels we've stayed at in the past, the rooms at the Palmer House had been fully updated, while the lobby, ballrooms and other areas retain their original grandeur. Location was excellent as we were in Chicago to see a Broadway musical in the PrivateBank Theater, which is a short walk away. It is also close to the Art Institute, Millennium Park, and . The room was small, with a small bathroom but well-furnished. The lobby is grand and a sight to behold. The service was friendly, and the fitness center is well planned, with an array of fitness equipment. The only downside: you have to pay for wifi.

A very comfortable bed and wonderful service from well trained, helpful staff were not enough to compensate for an awful room. The bathroom was so small I could barely move. The room was dowdy and dark, but worse was the incessant noise from what must have been a service elevator (as I was nowhere near the guest elevators). The internet was also problematic. The location was good and it was helpful to have a Freshii and Starbucks right outside.

The hotel is truly worth a visit simply to see the spectacular lobby and various furnishings that allow a glimpse of late 1800's-1900's living among the wealthy & celebrated in Chicago. The restaurant associated with the lobby - the breakfast we had was good, a notch less elegant than the environment might offer. Another fascinating aspect - the hotel hallways are a gallery of various celebrities and entertainers who performed and/or visited the Palmer Hotel, from Sonny and Cher to Jimmy Durante... Read more

Disappointed in the small room. Unless you are slender, you must stand on the toilet to shut the bathroom door! Small even for old Chicago hotels. The room was also noisy. Service was generally slow but polite. The elevators were not up to the job. Often had to wait in a crowd for an elevator during busy times. Second stay here in a year and it did not disappoint. Very elegant and yet efficient. Try to stay on the 23? floor. Breakfast is right down the hall, which is very convenient and enjoyable. So close to everything, but don't miss the restaurants. Chicago has great food, much of it within walking distance. And remember the Symphony and the Art Institute are within walking distance, too. Even if you don't stay here, you should come in to view the great room. It truly stands out especially as more and more properties just start to look like duplicates of each other and often quite sterile. Only ate catered meals but all the food was excellent. Service was attentive. Location is excellent. Spent minimal time in the room so little to say about that.
