We stayed here during odd weekends between January and March, when my mom hurt her back and couldn't walk up our stairs. The low prices for this time of year made it a great value. The lobby is amazing, and I brought my mom around to see the other event rooms - each one is more beautiful than the next. The hotel rooms were fine, sometimes a bit small or noisy, but the experience was wonderful for the grandeur of the place.

This is my second year staying at the Palmer House Hilton, both of my stays have been absolutely wonderful. I think the building of the Palmer house is just outstanding, since I'm a Hilton honors member check it was a breeze and I thought it was really nice that I got a text message to make sure everything was great.

I have written reviews about the Palmer House before and it still has the charm and old style furnishing but it is better that the lone traveller stays here. My wife and I travelled to Chicago on business and on our initial check in we were given a room that would normally be a walk in closet. I had booked a king size bed and the bed in this room was a little over three feet wide. We returned to the desk and were given what we had booked. The hotel has 1600 rooms so none of them is large an... Read more

We love to return to Chicago after living there for 3 years. The Palmer House is quite lovely and located in a great area. It is easy to get around to many attractions by walking , bus or taxi. We had our rental car bu please note the parking is a little pricey. The rooms are nice and large enough for a downtown hotel. The interior of the hotel is very pretty. Tourists come in just to take photos. We enjoyed our stay there and would probably stay there again. Definitely would recommend The Palme... Read more

About as nice as an old landmark hotel can get. Downtown Chicago, near both red and blue line trains. Convenient to shopping, food, pubs, and of course the lake parks. The atrium in this place is spectacular. You gotta stay here if you are ever in town.

I'm a Hilton Honors Gold member, and always choose the Hilton family of hotels for personal travel. This was a business trip, so it wasn't my choice to stay here, but each year my company books a block of rooms for an annual meeting. I never cared for the cramped rooms, but this year was upgraded. The king room was a reasonable size, but the bathroom tiny with peeling wallpaper. The worst part was a complete lack of water pressure, and 1 morning water only trickled out of the warm side of the fa... Read more

I had a room on the executive floor which must be larger than the regular rooms; however, the bathrooms are very small and definitely dated. The Executive rooms are suppose to have a lounge with breakfast, snacks, and a limited bar. While it was there, I could hardly use it as the lounge was being used by everyone and their guests regardless of where they were staying. The keys which limit access were not working. As a fellow guest advised: this is worse than a bus station! The service was p... Read more

Great accomodations, close to Loop fun, trains, buses. fine service, wealth of knowledge, their people are real. Hiltons are always reasonably priced and standards are high. Chicago has 200 new hotel rooms in 2016. This is still one of the best.

Chose this hotel based on it's history and close proximity to everything. Was not disappointed. I booked a 2 bed 2 bath room on the 16th floor. It was clean, quiet, and spacious. Comfy beds, clean bathroom. Lobby is beautiful, bell persons were helpful and speedy with our bags. After a night out in Old Town where we were served cocktails with rotten mint and old lime we went back to the hotel to have a night cap at the lobby bar. Fresh, delicious drinks served by an experienced bartender. ... Read more

If you enjoy hotels rich in history, you must stay at the Palmer. This hotel is a treasure, with an extraordinary ornamental interior in the French Empire style. The lobby is stunning, with a ceiling by French-muralist Louis Pierre Rigal who painted the 21 individual paintings on the ceiling. Don't miss the Peacock Doors at the Monroe Street entrance.

I would say that the hotel lives up to it's reputation. It is beautiful and historic, but also convenient and comfortable. The executive lounge had ups and downs.......breakfast was dismal I especially missed having a meat option. Dinner was a tasty main dish, but again I missed having a sweet option. Sometimes you just need a cookie. On the flip side, it is always nice to get diamond benefits, even when staying on a conference rate.

A very comfortable bed and wonderful service from well trained, helpful staff were not enough to compensate for an awful room. The bathroom was so small I could barely move. I agree the lobby of the hotel is well worth stopping in to see and admire - make it a point if you are in Chicago. After that, some of the lower cost Hilton family members, (Hampton, Hilton Garden Inn) are much better priced, cleaner and more updated. My employer paid over $230 per night, (not including tax) for a room with peeling wallpaper, minimal internet service and for some reason could only get a cell phone signal in the lobby. Additionally, needed to prop open the closet door with th... Read more

My wife and I have always enjoyed the Palmer House so we wanted to take our daughter since she was recently in a play called the Christmas Schooner that takes place in downtown Chicago. My Hilton Gold status has always gotten us on the executive level or at least access to the executive lounge but now it is only Diamond members. Very disappointed and on top of that we paid almost $300 a night and got just a basic room. I even asked for an upgrade but nothing available. Hoping for a special t... Read more

The lobby of this hotel was absolutely beautiful, and in the upstairs halls, there are pictures on the wall of celebrities that have stayed there at one point or another in the first half of the 20th century. I stayed here for four nights in early August as part of a conference of around 8,000 people. I had many friends and colleagues that also stayed in this hotel and the inconsistencies in our rooms were astounding. I had neither an iron, a coffee maker, or a refrigerator in my room. I have stayed three times at The Palmer House, all three times for the same rate, but all three times a much different room. It is hard to determine just how hotel management decides what type of room you will be given. On one of my three stays, my room appeared to have been some type of large closet in a previous life, and I would have complained, except the furnishings were really nice, and the bed was very comfortable. We have stayed at the Palmer House many times, but I was disappointed the last time. Because we had not booked directly through Palmer House, we not only did not receive Hilton Honors but were not allowed any of the benefits we had already earned as Hilton Honors members. The Palmer House is an iconic hotel that I highly recommend if you are visiting downtown Chicago. The hotel is in a nice central location with nice neighboring restaurants and a vintage vibe. We booked a quick trip to Chicago to catch NZ rugby game. Booked through Hilton for digital checkin so I could choose my own room and get a digital key. We were in room 12-267 which had to double beds, desks two chairs ottoman and tv and still plenty of extra room. One block walk to Chicago art institute 2 blocks to Cloud Gate art sculpture. What I loved about this was with digital checkin no need to stand in line to checkin or out. Red and orange line drop you off very close to hotel whether yo... Read more

Love the lobby and bar in this historic hotel. Even if you don't stay, you must visit for the beauty of it. The rooms were comfortable, but the walls SO thin. I did not sleep very well for the two nights i stayed. First night- next door neighbors were arguing and then had a speaker phone on. at 1am. at 2am. at 3am. at 4am and finally at 4:30 i was fully awake and had to present at a very important meeting that morning. Next night was the Cubs win at the World Series (go Cubs). I expected lots o... Read more

I don't understand the niggles about the rooms, because I've always had delightful accommodation. The place is almost always busy, but staff are efficient and friendly. The Lockwood bar gets very busy, so be prepared!

So my BDay weekend was kicked off at Palmer House. We reserved a room in the city and were excited since we had a full couple of days planned. When I arrived at our room kinda disappointed because we were anticipating a room with a view. Well, no view! Instead a view of brick wall, neighbors and a city alley. Not really the view I anticipated and paid over $200 for! It is a MUCH older hotel so nothing was modern vanity in bathroom was all chipped and room very, very small. We chalked the room up... We stayed at the Palmer House as a last minute get-away. We were able to get the room for a good price (midrange) but if we had not booked so late I would have rated it Luxury. The location was great near the museums we planned to visit. The staff was friendly and helpful from the valet guy who explained how to get to the prefered parking ramp, to the agent that checked us in, to the manager who quickly resolved our complaint about the room. We brought our parking ticket to be vaildated during c... Read more

Great location on the loop, ornate, old-school lobby. Close to EL trains, walking distance to the downtown parks and several theatres. Smallish room, VERY thin walls, so pack your earplugs. Check-in on a Friday afternoon took a very long time, as computer systems seemed extremely slow. In-room mini-bar is a scam, with items sitting in a precarious place on a pressure-sensitive pad that charges you if you knock something over.

I was in town to see Hamilton and this was the least expensive, yet closest hotel near the theatre (it was literally one block away). I'd also taken the train into town and it was just minutes from Union Station. The location was also fantastic because I was also able to explore downtown Chicago which was really fun. I really liked the Old Hollywood style of the hotel so this was a really cool and quaint place to stay. Taxes and fees made it a bit more expensive than I'd expected, but I wasn'... Read more

The Palmer House has a beautiful lobby and lounge where you can sit and enjoy the beauty of such an old building, or have a cocktail. The room we stayed in was small ,but very nice. My only complaint is that they need an adult hour for the swimming pool because kids took over the pool and we could not use it any of the 3 days that we were there. Many elevators provide quick service, and the staff was very kind and helpful when we checked in.

From beginning to end our weekend at the Palmer House was delightful. Our suite was perfectly appointed with luxurious bathrooms and premium bedding. The staff of seasoned professionals were friendly and efficient. I can't imagine a better place to stay when visiting Chicago.

The lobby, bar, and conference rooms are quite nice. However, there are disappointments that decrease the rating from a 4 to a 3. These include a fee for early check-in at 10:15am, small room, and poor audio quality during our meeting in the main conference room. The bed was comfortable and the hotel is quite nice, but the negatives, including those listed above and the slow elevators and small bathroom keep it out of the luxury range. It is also quite expensive even with a group rate. One ... Read more

Jane was able to make all of our dreams for a wedding come true. Whenever I had a question, she was quick to answer. We originally started with a different planner, and aftera few interactions & reading reviews I wished we had Jane. Thankfully the other girl left & our friends backed out of the Empire room on the same date to free Jane up up for us! Everyone's hotel rooms were amazing & every staff member was the sweetest. I was all thrilled when i found out we r going to stay at a Hilton hotel. Hilton has always been my favourite chain. The exterior was amazing, the lobby was so impressive. Checking in was also a breeze (we arrived early and got our room) The horror came when we went to our room, my husband booked a room with 2 single beds but we found a tiny double bed! We have the both of us and our 5 year old and 4 luggages! If we want to put all the luggages in the room we will have no place to walk. Can u ... Read more

This a beautifully restored hotel with excellent service. An employee escorted me up two floors to make sure if found a meeting room. The concierge helped me make a restaurant reservation at 8pm on a busy Saturday night. This top notch type of service is rare in a hotel. The hotel lobby is unbelievably beautiful. My only problem was a request for a double bed room was not noted but was modified for an extra daily fee once I got to the hotel.

As other reviewers said, the lobby is gorgeous and the hotel has an old-tyme, art deco feel to it. The room we had with two double beds was spacious and the furnishings were clean. I am going to list some negatives so you know what you are getting in to, but I would definitely stay again if the price was right. The main one to know is that the walls are paper thin. It was like our next door neighbors were having a conversation with us. If you are a light sleeper, this is not the hotel for ... Read more

We've stayed at the Palmer House many times over the last 20 years. Love this hotel bc it's a classic. The rooms are small, but it's in a great location and just has an ambiance about it. We walked over and saw a musical and had a nice late-night dinner at Miller's pub. Very nice. Beautiful lobby.

Our room on the other hand was not outstanding the shower on the first morning did not work. The plumber was called and our room was changed and that bathroom worked. You don't have to stay at The Palmer House to enjoy it. You can have cocktails in the opulent lobby or dinner in the exclusive restaurant. But staying here is a treat too. It's conveniently close to theater, shopping, restaurants and tourist attractions.

The location of this hotel could not be more convenient. It's right in the heart of the Loop and very accessible by public transportation. The conserve desk is wonderfully helpful, but the front desk personnel are unfriendly and just a step above rude. The room has no complimentary coffee or tea, the bathroom has zero counter space, and there is no reading light by the bed making reading in bed impossible. As someone said, "If you wanted Marriott service, you should have stayed at a Marriott."

It has been twenty years since I last stayed at the Palmer House. Be careful of the room as several have not been upgraded and are very small. We were fortunate to be able to request the layout which gave us two double beds and two bathrooms. It appears the room was two single rooms and renovated into one larger room. The decor was fine; somewhat dated. The bathrooms are tiny. This is an old hotel of which Hilton has done a great job of maintaining the ambience using a historical building.... Read more

Stayed at the Palmer House for one night - our sole purpose of the visit was to see the Broadway show "Hamilton". Could not have chosen a better place to stay - across the street from the theatre - walking distance to great restaurants, and sites. It is an older property so the rooms are smaller but it has all the charm and glamour of a bygone era!

Fun location, nifty things to see in this 120+ year old historic hotel. Everything from Parking, Check in to getting drinks was a chore. The breakfast included on certain packages is not worth the trip to the 23 floor. Not even an attempt at good or interesting food. And walking around for a table is not what I expected with my bagel in hand. If you need the location, get a great deal on this property or get another near by property.

I stayed on the executive floor and that offered an executive lounge with a complimentary breakfast, and snacks and drinks through the day and evening. Very well stocked, with pleasant service. The rooms were large enough and well furnished. All i all, a very pleasant stay and a good place to do business.
