The very first "nice" hotel my parents took us too...about 60 years ago. I am pleased to report that The Drake Hotel still sets the standard that others should follow. Outstanding warm, personal service from top to bottom. All you would want in a hotel. Beautiful public spaces, great concierge service, and a fabulous location. High ceilings and nicely sized rooms. In my opinion, The Drake Hotel sets a standard that all hotels should strive for and few reach. You'll love your stay.

The Drake is old-fashioned and built to stay that way. It is a historic hotel, proud of it, and happily doesn't pretend to be anything but. What this means is that your bedroom will be spacious but boring, full of your mother's or grandmother's old brown furniture. Your bathroom will be almost equally outdated (e.g. a bath tub rather than walk-in shower). At the same time, sound insulation in the rooms is good plus there is a simple but effective shade system. What I like best about the Drake... Read more

It really feels like Chicago here, its nice to know that in the restaurant was sitting Monroe some day and many other celebrities were here over time. I would suggest to book a lake view room, the view is amazing! We stayed in executive room (recommend mostly because of the access to executive lounge for breakfast and snacks/tea all day long), everything was lovely (great pillows!) except a tiny technical error in the bathroom (water pipe leak, not a serious one but you wouldn't expect that her... Stayed here for one night. In the heart of downtown Chicago, and if you get lucky you get the Lake Michigan facing room. But make sure you mention that during booking as the rooms rent out pretty fast. I stayed in a sweet, larger bed big living area and beautiful street view of downtown. My stay was pleasant !

Room was small but fine, staff efficient but in this city the internet was so bad I couldn't watch youtube, videos off facebook and even some pages timed out it took so long to load, and this was the $14.99 UPGRADED internet. gasp, seriously. I ran speed test and got this: 2Mbps down, .1Mbps up. That's faster than what I experienced.

I was very excited when The Drake came up on Priceline as an option. The professionalism was notable during check-in. The room was nicely appointed, not extravagant, but I didn't expect that for the price I was paying. The street level bar was 'hoppin' each late night when I was there. I visited the Palm Court for tea and dessert just to take in the history. There was a band and singer. I enjoyed that too. I hope I return to The Drake.

We decided to drive to Chicago from Montreal to spend Christmas at the Drake. We were expecting the hotel to be a bit older and more nostalgic than luxurious. Tired and jaded furnishings don't matter if the staff are good but they were tired and jaded too as other than the very helpful door staff the general reception, bar and restaurant staff were unfriendly and unenthusiastic. Good hotel, antique with modern upgrades. Good location for shopping, navy pier. Cape Cod Restaurant was a disappointment for the price. Very few customers on a Saturday evening and they tried to seat our party of 5 in uncomfortable looking bench seating by the front door. We insisted on seating at one of the numerous round tables. One person in our party had something in her water glass. It took 3 attempts to finally get the water changed. With all the great dining in Chicago we made a mistake ... Read more

I stayed here for the first time, usually stay at a hotel nearby on my visits to Chicago. The Drake is a nice, historic hotel and I really liked the old-fashioned atmosphere. My room was small and could have done with a little overhaul, wallpaper was coming down a bit in some spots and the furniture seemed quite worn. What I really disliked was the fact that it was virtually impossible to open or close the room door without slamming it. It seemed really crooked. The same was true for the room op... Read more

Terrible experience at what is supposed to be a landmark Hilton. Room we were shunted into was terrible. As a Diamond status Hilton customer I'm truly rethinking my loyalty. Executive lounge is a small hovel with a view if you can get one of the few windowed tables that peer out through small windows at lake Michigan. Dining room staff at the casual restaurant couldn't be bothered to take our orders. After waiting 15 minutes we gave up and left.

The Drake is real Chicago. Staying there makes a person feel special. My wife and I enjoyed the high tea in the Palm Court. The shops at the lower level and the lobby add lots of class to the accommodation. The location cannot be beat: right at the top of the Magnificent Mile and directly across the street from the beach and the lake. It 's an easy shot to get on Lakeshore Avenue and go north to other city sights also. I only wish the hotel would invest in a spa (sauna, steam room, pool) so my s... Read more

Beds are way too small for a normal sized individual. Folks at registration were difficult to get a hold of in the morning. Shower was average. Great location but for the price, the rooms should be much higher quality.

A classic hotel in a great location. Friendly staff and neat ambiance. Only negatives were the bed could have been better, might be due for a mattress update, and more pillows. Had a lovely evening in the bar. Avoid the on site coffee shop if you like strong, dark coffee.

I stayed at the drake for 4 nights (a short vacation). My room had beautiful old world charm but with all the modern amenities needed. Great view of the lake. The staff was helpful. I dropped the rating to 4 primarily because The Palm Court - the room often highlighted for afternoon tea - is in need to some attention. The chairs need to be re-covered as they are soiled and worn. The velvet railing covers are also quite worn. An old hotel can be wonderful for charm and character but still need... Read more

I booked the hotel because of the great reviews on TripAdvisor. The hotel impressed from the outside with its beautiful art deco canopy and magnificent foyer with chandelier and wonderful flower display. To the left of the foyer was a beautiful bar area, with live music and dancing on the Friday night we were there. Expensive but impressive as the music and atmosphere were great. The location was very central. No complaints at all. Front desk staff were polite. The room however, was on the small... Read more

High Tea is a favorite of mine. My elderly aunt's used to take me for special occasions. The hats and white gloves are a thing of the past, however, the Drake's ambiance is a sight to behold. You see the offerings and think you will be hungry and when you finish you are almost too full.

Enjoyed a three night business trip at the Drake. The high ceilings, the decor, the high tea, all contributed to an Old World feel. AT the same time the furnishings did not appear worn and all of the modern amenities were there and working as they should. The staff was very attentive and accommodating. All in all, a good stay and will be back.

Needed a hotel for one night. Once we arrived & saw our room & lobby I wish we had more time . Our room on the 4th floor was very nice & clean . They also have a great espresso & coffee attached to the hotel. The workout room had just what we needed for a quick workout. The hotel bar is absolutely beautiful and reminds me of someplace out of the 40s. Definitely worthwhile to stop in for an adult beverage.

I have stayed in this hotel many times in the past, but my most recent visit (October '16) was over 10 years ago. I reserved a "lake view room" since they have great views of Lake Michigan. "True confession" this is one of the Hilton Hotel brands were I have a high status in the HHonors loyalty program. Upon check in I was offered an upgrade to a Junior Suite for a very modest additional cost, so I went for it. I was given a corner Junior Suite with 6 windows facing Lake Michigan with "kille... We were very much looking forward to staying in this historic hotel but we're a little bit disappointed with the overall experience which was a mixture of excellence and slackness. Whilst checking in to the hotel, efficiently dealt with by the receptionist, my wife sat in a lounge chair and found a layer of dust on the back. The foyer had a beautifull flower display and a nice ambiance. Our large room had a very nice view of the lake and was well appointed though a bit in need of a refurbishm... Read more

I will start with my room. I did not like my first room. It was right by the fire escape in a narrow hallway that made me feel claustrophobic. They switched with no problem. My new room was large and a good sized. The tv was a good size and overall the room was clean. The toilet did have scratches in the bottom, which were deep and made it look dirty (but it wasnâ??t). The room was exactly what I expected for a hotel that is 100 years old. It was actually part of the charm, the wood work, the fu... Read more

The Drake offers a historic perspective on hotels in Chicago. The building and layout is charismatic and reminiscent of age long past, lots of wood and chandeliers it's a very pleasant place. The rooms are typically vast and well stocked with a decent set of amenities, the location is central Chicago around 30mins from the airport and with valet parking. The staff are lovely and add to the feeling of specialness. Not modern but in a good way.

Always wanted to stay in this classic hotel which brings up the north end of the Magnificent Mile, and finally had a chance to stay a night after a nearby business event. It's still a classic, positioned in an area of the toniest shops in the Midwest. Our room faced the lake, and it was spacious. The bathroom alone could have held at least ten people! The bed was very comfortable. The only negative was a dented refrigerator which took away from the room's elegance. The hotel also had the widest hallways I had ever seen. Music with more of a 1930's band, and a very eclectic young and old crowd with spectator shoes, caps, vests, and derbys. Interesting but fun. Not a lot of lobby seating especially during tea time. You can visit the Millenium park and see the Anish Kapoor exhibit "The Cloud" aka "The Bean" and walk on Michigan Avenue to visit high end shopping, going to the what used to be called the Hancock building (what a great view, try it at dusk) and finish off by going to the Navy Pier. ...
