"Hotel room was very small and not worth the money. Front Desk staff was rude and abrupt with us. Stayed 4 nights and Hotel did not have a microwave to heat up a thing. The only free thing was a cup of coffee in the mornings. Parking was just extremely ridiculous at a whopping $50 per night. We had to drop off our stuff and look around for another parking lot."

"Wonderful Location right off of Michigan Avenue. Very Busy Hotel! Our room was a Tiny Corner room, barely big enough for two addults. I would definately not choose a standard room for two again.
We were told at check in, we had a Queen bed. Definately not a queen, but a full size bed. No Coffee makers in room. Coffee was avilable in the main lobby!"

"It was my first trip to Chicago and my experience at the Allerton Hotel was horrible. The room is tiny and there's no gawn or slippers like other 4 star hotels. The elevators are extreamly slow. I stayed on 6th floor and waited to catch an elevator at least 5 to 8 minutes. The hotel doesn't have a Parking Gaurge, but offers a valet parking. I used a valet parking for less than 1.5 hours and I've waited an hour to get the car back. Of course, they've charged extra $20 for an hour which I've been waiting. I asked the parking staffs to be hurry because I have an important appointment with a client, but they just made me waiting. There was no apology."

"First of all the bottom of the bed in my room was so tight to the wall you had to climb over the bed to get to the other side of it. The first night we were there we were woke to what sounded like a guy beating someone up in the room below, I reported it and it took the hotel 20 mins to sort the problem out, at this point the shouting and screaming stopped and we could sleep."

"I've visited the Allerton before and enjoyed it, but It seems they've been skimping on their housekeeping. We had dead bugs on the bed, black mold growing on the shower ceiling, and less-than-average toiletries. The lines at the front desk were slow and it is a cramped place to stand as people try to get through to the restaurant. With all the hotels available in Chicago, I'll pick another next time."

"No one at entrance to tell us that registration was located on second floor (confusing). Once we finally found registration, it was noisy because of the bar located in the same place. Were informed that if we even placed our own water bottle in the mini-fridge to keep it cool, we would pay a $25 sanitizing charge. Room was so small that you had to climb across the bed to get to the other side, and back across the other person to get to the bathroom. Elevator was stuck on our floor and after three tries to get it to move, we switched elevators. Room was neat and clean, but I really could not recommend based on other problems."

"We had a standard room with two beds. It was very small and our view was of a brick wall, no sunlight in the room. The sink in the bathroom did not drain. The whole hallway smelled, Glasses and cutlery was left in the hallway for two days. Good location for the hotel but will never stay there again!"

"This is a fantastic hotel in the heart of the Magnificent Mile. Every imaginable store within walking distance. 3 blocks to the train. 2 blocks to the John Hancock Tower. Room was clean with comfy bed. Totally re-done with a beautiful bathroom, flat screen TV, mini bar (be careful, if you even take something out you will be charged!). The staff is also very friendly and helpful. This is a hotel that I would definitely come back to. It was great."

Although my room was quite small it was clean and comfortable and located near all the Magnificent Mile hot spots as well as being near some inexpensive places to have meals. As an older hotel it does suffer from a lack of speedy or roomy elevators."

"Would I stay again? Hard to say.....would look for better options first. I do give it a 4 star for being clean. The room was very clean. I had requested a 2 double bed room and even called WEEKS before to confirm. But when I arrive they had me in a one king bed room. When I spoke to them about it very nicely, they would not budge AT all to make sure I got a two bed room, however the person in line beside me that also wanted a 2 bed room , the clerk came over to the clerk that was checking me in and said this guy wants a 2 bed room and the clerk that was waiting on me just said okay, well just swap out his room from some other customer. So my daughter and I shared the bed, which is okay, but not want I requested. When I pay for the room, I expect to get what I reserve. Super Tight Room, with no way to move around. Bathroom no place to put your things and if you sit on the potty your nose and your knees are inches from the wall in front of you. The room is so tiny that with 2 people and 2 suitcases you are tripping all over yourself. So if you stay here, make sure you only plan to sleep and shower and then get out and enjoy the city. They will hold your luggage after you check out which is great at no extra cost. We ordered breakfast room service one day as a way to save time in the morning....but it ended up costing us more that a full dinner with drinks. We ordered one bowl of oatmeal and one fresh fruit plate and one cup of tea and the bill was 40 bucks. Yes I said 40 bucks for a bowl of oatmeal, one cup of tea and fruit. We had 2 dinners and 2 cocktails out in the city for less than that. And there is NO in room coffee maker, which is ALWAYS a hated thing for me."

"An ideal location for both the frequent and/or out-of-town traveler; however for the base rate, room type, and ancillary fees to be incurred other options are probably better suited. The hotel has charm although the rooms are small, poorly cleaned, and mildly undesirable - the bathroom and toilet are inefficient, narrow shotgun arrangement with no elbow room for multiples and flushes like a vacuum (odd to call out, yet trust me - two canNOT get ready at once). The galley floors appeared cleaned (despite the misty grey carpet) yet along the baseboards were leftovers, dust, hair, gum, etc. - must be challenging to use the funnel adapter on the vacuum cleaner for housekeeping.nnThe hotel sales staff was atrocious. We called multiple times in advance of our reservation date to inquire about room upgrades, early check-in, etc only to encounter senseless debates over looking up our reservation without a confirmation number (no email and the paper was misplaced/left at home while we were out) - not sure why other credentials aren't readily available for agents to access guest reservation details with ease... The reservation was found and then we had to be transferred to another rep who never returned our calls or provided information. I personally couldn't fathom another lengthy string of phone calls with no progress, so we opted to keep our reservation untouched although I personally would've rather paid to stay elsewhere.nn"

"Surprise! Arriving to the lobby and finding a very long line to check in. We were listening to the people in front of us complaining and we were thinking about to leave. We decided to stay since it was only for one night. The big surprise was when we open the door of our room and saw the room ocupied by a queen bed (more like a double) and very little more since there was no space. We had to lift our wheeled carry-on above the bed because it won't fit between the bed and the forniture. No bathtub in the bathroom. Every extra had a hefty price attached. Nothing free. Is this really considered a 4 star hotel. I stayed in 2 star hostels much better than this."

"We were very pleased with our stay. The rooms were clean, quiet and temperature control within a half of degree. You can't beat this hotel for value. All of the staff was friendly and very informative. We could not have asked for a better location for our first visit to Chicago, it was within easy walking distance to the lake, Navy Pier, Art Institute of Chicago and the Hancock Tower. "Although the price was a good one, we did expect more then what we got.I had called ahead to find out the price on Valet Parking and was quoted by a Staff member $ 40.00 a Night, come to find out it was $ 50.00. The Breakfast at the Hotel restaurant was totally overpriced, $ 58.00 for 2 people for some scrambled eggs, toast and 4 small pieces of sausage? Plus a very small cup of coffee. We where not happy.
But what was the worse part of our stay there was the fact that apparently a former guest had left food in the refrigerator, and when I went to the front desk the female that worked there, stated that that was hard to believe, so basically called me a liar. And for a Million $$$ renovation I did expect for the Wallpaper to be still intact in the Room, but it was coming down. So again the price was nice but from a Hotel where reg Pricing is in the $300 range,This was our Wedding Anniversary and was suppose to be special but it got a real damper. I will never again stay at the Allerton and for sure will post this on Fb and tell all my Friends and Family members."

"With all of the options in downtown Chicago, I do not think my partner and I will return to the Allerton. The location was great, but there are umpteen other hotels with that going for them. Like many of the older hotels in Chicago, the rooms are relatively small. The heating unit was rather noisy. We paid the extra for all the upgrades and were a little taken aback when all the requests we paid for seemed to be an issue. Rather than telling us that immediately, the check in person (and the registration desk is a little odd, we originally thought it was the concierge desk) just stared at his computer screen while his colleague next to us checked in four other families. We finally did get the room we paid for, but on a much lower floor than requested which ended up being fine since the windows are small not meant to capture views. We were told we received a free upgrade, but that was not true, we merely received the room for which we paid. The elevators are older models and oddly shaped - don't be surprised by the narrow doors.
Having stayed in many other hotels for our yearly trip to Chicago for New Year's, it was a bonus that the Allerton was not a zoo on New Year's Eve. It suited our needs, was clean and was in a great location for shopping and seeing friends, but next year we will try someplace else."

"We stayed two nights at the Allerton for our 20th anniversary. The first night was good. We requested a lower level room. It was not ready when we arrived, but we were early. The second day we shopped and dined and came back to the hotel at 7:30 p.m. Our room had not been serviced. We called and informed the staff. We waited and waited. We finally just requested towels to be brought up. This took about 30 minutes. There was not explanation for the reason our room was not cleaned. We did not have a coffee pot or any coffee amenities and our phone was broke. We informed the staff it was our 20th, but no one really seemed to care that our room was in not serviced."

"Checked in early and got right into my room. Room was the smallest I've stayed at in the metro Chicago area. The heat was not working throughout the day so I jumped in bed to get warmed up. When we returned later that evening the heat was working. Overall this was the poorest value for the money that i have spent on hotels in downtown Chicago..."

"The rooms are small, but perfectly comfortable. I don't find any issues with the room size despite what others have said in this space.

We had an issue with the shower not draining properly. We called the front desk and the building maintenance engineer was in our bathroom within 5 minutes. He fixed the problem within 10. Great service!"

"This was a great experience. I walked in to registration and the nice lady behind the counter asked how my experience was getting to the hotel and I just said traffic was awful but I'm just glad I'm finally here. After she logged us in and gave me my room key, she stated that she upgraded us to the junior suite. My friend and I looked at each other w/ questions marks on our face and were so impressed. We didn't ask why, we were just happy and excited! It was such a great start to a fun Chicago weekend! Also all the staff was very friendly.
