If you are looking for bright lights and blaring music(even at 7:30 a.m.) this is the place for you. On the other hand, if you are over 60 look elsewhere. The hotel is obviously trying to attract a young crowd. The rooms are fine, clean and comfortable. Lighting is lacking if you're sharing a bed. Only one center reading light. In the larger of the two rooms we stayed in(a whole other story)fully a third of the room was unlit. There are no desks in the rooms-just a small table. In-room wifi will... Read more

I stayed in this hotel a decade ago and loved the location and decor. It has now been completely renovated and the lobby is made to look like a re-purposed warehouse - lots of electronic music. The Drake it ain't. So, I walked a block to the Langham for tea and had a late night drink with friends in the Palm Court of the Drake - to satisfy my nostalgic longings - before turning in each evening. The best thing about this hotel - you can walk out the back door and be in Macys within 5 minutes!

We are Marriott Reward members and spent a great deal of time researching properties in Chicago before deciding on this hotel. We absolutely made the right decision. Even before our stay, we experienced excellent customer service. I called to inquire about rooms as we were travelling with our two young daughters and had the pleasure of speaking with Krista. Krista went above and beyond for us and really made our stay memorable. We had an early flight into Chicago and we arrived at the hotel be... Read more

Having stayed in many hotels including Marriott, I can highly recommend the Renaissance Chicago Downtown as one of the best in its class in Chicago. The hotel has been recently renovated to include all rooms, lobby, bar and restaurant with an urban modern feel that won't leave you disappointed. From the minute we walked in we experienced excellent service from all staff. The club lounge has been moved to the lobby level and was always stocked with drinks and the food was in line with other Ma... Read more

We had a late check in guarantee for a trip for work for my husband. We were given a handicapped room and not told it was handicapped.....we were also given a room that was directly above the El train system. We have traveled a lot and know big cities are loud but for $400.00/night you should be able to sleep with out using two devices with white noise makers on loud to sleep. This hotel is also hard to tell it is a hotel upon walking into the lobby as you think you have entered a night club/... Read more

Ok, so here is the bottom line. Has under gone a recent beautiful refurbishment. Very comfortable rooms. Very helpful "navigator" staff. The second floor restaurant is very good for breakfast buffet. A recently opened third floor bar includes outside seating offering nice views of the river and downtown buildings. Nice lobby bar with friendly staff. Friendly and helpful valet and bell staff. Very kid friendly. Convenient location to city center, Michigan Avenue shopping district, river walk and ... Read more

Loved the hotel and the remodeled lobby is nice but very, very noisy. Lots of noise travels down the escalator from the ballroom and can overpower the lobby. Apparently, recently remodeled and while it looks nice, needs some material to absorb some sound. Tried the new rooftop bar and went up at 9:50 on a Sunday night of a holiday weekend, only to be greeted as we entered with a "we close in 10 minutes". We walked through and watched several people be served fresh drinks. As I said we w... Read more

I stayed here on business for a few days. The Hotel has a great location and right near a train stop from the airport. Overlooking the River and Trump tower. The rooms are large and clean. Small pool, however when used children playing so not really good for exercise. The gym was surprisingly good for a hotel. And there is a roof top bar on the 3rd with great views. One grumble they put bottles of water in the rooms but charge you $4 for. Which is very over top with price paying.

Nice, full-service Marriott. Staff seem to really like their jobs. Everyone was helpful. The room was nice, with a view on the river side of the hotel. There is a new lobby bar and an outdoor bar. From only the 8th floor, there was no noise at all. The room seem well-insulated, too, in terms of the windows and doors. The executive lounge is on the main floor and has a hot, self-serve breakfast that is good. It is closed weekends, however. The hotel bar is above-average for a Marriott, with pri... Read more

The hotel has been tastefully renovated, the rooms are of a generous proportion, well-furnished with sizable bathrooms and the service was fine. We had breakfast in the main restaurant, which has a lovely view over the river and the bars were not as 'hotelly' as some. Although I was only 2 rooms away from the elevator, I was not disturbed, although a colleague of mine was placed right next to the elevator shaft and the clanking kept him awake. If you're into shopping, the hotel is also well-l... Read more

I was at the Renaissance for 2 nights, attending a conference in the hotel. The rooms are fairly large and many have a view (partial or full) of the river and some classic Chicago buildings across it. The hotel and rooms have been successfully renovated, with creative abstract painting decorating the elevator areas and good quality modern furniture in the rooms. The bathrooms still have the old tubs, with handles that are difficult to turn on (you have to pull out hard), but lighting is good, an... Read more

After reading so many great reviews i was so looking forward to staying here. I was a little disappointed though. The lobby is a visual and aural treat although it can be a little much especially at night if you're with small kids. Like, walking through a bar. The rooms were comfortable enough, although a bit dated, especially the bathroom fixtures. Oh, and don't forget your toothbrush, because just in case you and your family leave yours at home, it's not readily in the bathroom and if you ask... Read more

Hotel is right on the Chicago River, just a block away from the loop. Airport blue line is just a 2 block walk. Easy to get on the River walk. I walked to the Navy Pier, and then took the bus back. Convenient to everything. Check in was efficient and friendly. Asked for a high floor and was moved to 14th when I noticed I had been assigned a room on the 8th. Also received an upgrade to a River Front room. Incredible views. Room was neither small nor large, but was comfortable. Coffee ma... Read more

I am sad to have downgrade this Marriott location. DO NOT come here if you have to work while you are here. The remodel is done and everything is very cool and hip, but heaven forbid you have to work on a laptop while you are here. This is no workstation or desk - the table to fit my laptop and second screen is so small and usable. The chair is a lounge chair and not suitable to work in. I have a back problem, so it is even worse to try to find a way to do any real work and be comfortable. We ar... Read more

The rooms/beds and facilities at the hotel were hip/modern and clean. The hotel bar/restaurant made breakfast to go super fast and easy as well. I stayed on a business trip for 4 nights. We paid $1800 (although with river view) so it wasn't cheap. If you're looking for "value" not sure this is the spot. But the service was amazing, extremely comfortable rooms and you can't beat the location.

We've stayed at this hotel many times and always have a great experience. We were visiting for St Patrick's day weekend. It was the first time my brother and his family had been to Chicago and the hotel did not disappoint. Despite how busy the hotel was, the staff went out of their way to provide great service. Great breakfast in the hotel restaurant and the kids love the view of the river from the restaurant and from the hotel room. We got to go to a party in the new space during the greening o... This is supposed to be a convention hotel, and in fact, I am here for a conference. However, after asking several staff members, there is NO place in the hotel, except your room, where you can have a conversation without LOUD music with a pounding beat. All of the public spaces, including the restaurants sound as if you're in a dance club. The staff say it's all part of the "rebranding" - I have no idea what their target market is unless it's those under 30 attending conferences? Makes no sen... Read more

We booked 3 rooms at the Renaissance Chicago Downtown Hotel and all had different experiences. One of the rooms had no issues. Another room had a squeaky bed and a missing charging station. The third room had a missing refrigerator, a non-working phone, and an empty box of tissues. When it was brought up to management's attention, a refrigerator was brought up to the room and placed in the middle of the room, barely leaving any room to walk. As for the location, it couldn't be any better. The h... Read more

This is a beautiful hotel in a terrific location across from the Chicago River. I was able to walk to a number of locations. There's a good concierge lounge and the rooms are large with lovely modern decor. Service was excellent. However, my room did not have a desk and the chair and side table that seemed to be the place to sit and work were uncomfortable. I think it's a strange layout for business travel. I really miss a desk.

We travel frequently and thus we tend to compare service levels among the various hotel quality name brands. With that I must say our initial impression and experience with the Renaissance staff in downtown Chicago was nothing short of excellent. Jill and Nadine in particular tag teamed together and went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and valued. These Marriott professionals are keepers and the Renaissance would be wise to invest in their careers to keep them on the Marriott team. Wit... Read more

Wonderful hotel and great location. We started our first ever Chicago trip at the downtown Marriot which was simply awful. We moved to the Renaissance and it was like night and day. Great location, huge rooms, 1st class service as Marriot should be. We will be back.

The Renaissance at 1 West Wacker is one of my favorite hotels in the city of Chicago. The hotel is lively, rooms are comfortable and quiet, and the style is chic. Also it helps that the pricing is generally reasonable and the hotel is centrally located within the loop. They did a good job with the renovation, although I actually preferred the hotel as it was. Nonetheless, if you are looking for stylish, clean, and well located place to stay...this is probably it. This is one of my go to places ... Read more

I love the renovations that were done. The lobby is very cool and different from other hotels that I stayed. I dropped off my car to the valet and when I got to the front desk they already knew my name. I really like the artwork and the way they designed the hotel.
