This hotel is very well kept. I love Kimpton properties because they really take care of everything. It was close to where I was working so I was able to walk to and from my work office for the week. The ONLY downside is there wasn't a proper dresser in the room for me to put away all of my clothes. The closet is TINY, like SUPER tiny. Plus, they only give you two small drawers in the entertainment center. It was barely enough to hold my clothes. I had to leave some in my suitcase and rotate it ... Read more

Easy reservation process and quick check-in. Staff was efficient, polite and had great attitudes to want to do everything possible to make your stay enjoyable. Great location and nice atmosphere. We had a twin queen room which was a little tight for 3 adults and 1 child. This is not unusual for old historic hotels. Question if the beds were really queen size and they were a little soft. As mentioned in other reviews the bathrooms are small. We would stay here again in a single bed room if ... Read more

Front desk staff are genial and efficient. Rooms are comfortable and functional. Meeting rooms are easily accessible and reasonably well laid out. The best thing about this hotel is that the location makes it easy to get away to good food and diversions, particularly Millennium Park. If heading to Ohare around mid-afternoon / early evening, consider taking the nearby Blue Line mass transit; travel by car took over 90 minutes.

Stayed here for a friend's wedding in the city and was very pleasantly surprised by the property. The room was perfectly cleaned and the room temperature was easily adjustable without a hassle. The overall property definitely screams urban boutique and the staff was very polite and helpful. Complimentary coffee and evening drinks are served complimentary as well. The only cons would be the smaller hotel room size, rooms with one bed may prove to be a tight squeeze from some couples and water i... Read more

I went to Chicago to see the Beauty and the beast. Hotel is literally next door what made me decide for it. Walking distance to all downtown Chicago attractions. Our room was very small but well decorated and clean. They have happy hour at the lobby on Fridays and Saturdays. I dont know if they have it during the week. Staff is very polite and attentive to your needs. Parking is $60 a night. If you go to Spothero you can get parking in less than half a block for $25 a day.

Walking distance to the theaters and to the Millennium Park and Willis Tower. Dogs are allowed and that is very cool. Having a drink in the lobby with a some cool dogs around. This was my first stay at the Hotel Allegro, and I can happily say that it won't be my last. The hotel itself, and all the staff I encountered, were great. I especially love the location of this hotel. It was convenient to everything I wanted to do in Chicago. I also thought it was a great value, considering the prices for other hotels in Chicago over Memorial Day weekend. I only have one negative thing to report, and it was not the fault of the hotel or its staff. Just as nobody can choos... Read more

All the things one hopes for when staying in a hotel in the city: Beautiful room, lots of plugs that are easy to access to charge the plethora of devices, lovely decor, quiet room, lots of hot water, and (most importantly) a comfortable bed. ... and the location didn't hurt either. This was my second stay at this hotel while traveling through Chi-town for business. And will do so again.

This is a bit of a hipster hotel, and it's designed with a lot of lobby sitting areas to encourage gathering there; the hotel serves free prosecco and other drinks there between 5 and 6 p.m., and folks do gather. The staff is nice and helpful, and they offer free bikes to ride, which was great. But then you go upstairs to your room: This is clearly an old hotel that was freshened up with hipster black and white décor, but nothing was done to the rooms themselves. I stayed here for four nights while on business and while I appreciated the "Grab and Go" food option from the bar, I really missed the option to order room service. I am a corporate trainer and the last thing I want to do after a full day of work is stand in line at a crowded bar to get a cold sandwich. I have mixed feelings about this hotel. It's neat with the art, redesigned older bldg, etc. but the rooms are tiny, the elevators are slow, and I could care less about a yoga mat and cheetah robe. This is a very nice hotel in the theatre district. We paid for a room up grade but the rooms are still quite 'cosy'! The decor is very nice and the public areas are spacious if you do not visit when there are events/weddings taking place! From its Deco exterior, the grand era of Buicks and Fords and lights and glitz and the unbounded opportunity of the Midwestern industrial powerhouse radiates from this hotel. This hotel is Art Deco themed and very tasteful. We love that Kimptons are pet-friendly. The only *minor* thing we noticed was the room had a *slightly* musty smell, but very slight and not a big deal. We attribute it to the fact that Kimpton renovated a very old building into a hotel. My wife and I stayed at the Allegro for two nights at the start of a two week road trip - in fact it's our second visit as we did the same, using the hotel as a starting point, in 2014. The hotel is ideally located right in the centre of Chicago with the river, Millennium Park and Navy Pier all within walking distance. The rooms are excellent and our king sized bed was extremely comfortable. Our room, as we expected, was spotlessly clean and the good sized bathroom is well equipped and comfort... Read more

The room was small, but well put together. I am sure we had the worst view, but Chicago's green roof initiative made a difference in aesthetics. There is no pool or spa that I recall. The beds were comfy and the room clean, but showed some wear. The difficult part for me was listening to my neighbors fight, have sex, or speak loudly on the phone.

I agree with another reviewer who said the rooms are super tight and seem like very old spaces with a new coat of paint, but not much else. The elevators are super "sketchy" and make odd noises which caused concern for me. The hallways, at least on the 17th floor, were super dark, black everywhere, and overall it just set the scene for an old, dingy, and even spooky experience. However, the daily cocktail hour was a nice touch, the lobby areas were very neatly decorated, and the bartender (ma... Read more

Stayed here recently. Good location, but hotel is set in 1930's décor so quite dark. Felt sometimes as if we were in a film set!! Lovely idea to have free hot drinks early morning and fruit too. At 5pm free Prosecco was served which was lovely. Clean rooms.

Booked this hotel months in advance from a third party hotel site which gave me a very decent price in a cool hotel such as Allegro. Initially the mention of the size of the room turned me off as it was really small, about 200 sqft but the modern and smart design of the room made the difference. Checked in at 11.30am, and thought we needed to wait til 3pm before our room would be ready but pleasantly surprised to have a room ready for us! Check in was a breeze!! The lobby was soooo beautiful wit... Read more

This is a great hotel right in the center of the town. About a 5-10 walk to the lake, it's a straight shot from the hotel down Randolph St. It's decorated so that you feel like you're in the 1920's. The staff is very friendly & knowledgeable. My only complaints were that the rooms were smaller than expected & really no place to put your suitcase. The closet was narrow & only 2 small drawers next to the mini bar. I was there for a week & had to really just live out of my suitcase on the floor. ... Read more

A little generous here - prob 3.5/5. Very nicely decorated hotel in Art Deco, lobby is beautiful. The location is excellent also, very near blue line to airport. A few issues - $6 for water in room ( two seven elevens very close though) - wifi was free but almost secretly - a note included with room keys - very noisy in the morning . From 8:30 onwards cleaners banging doors and there was a dog barking one morning.

I booked a king room for five nights during my birthday week. Upon arriving, I was given a room right next to the elevator with a bed that looked much smaller than a king. I went back down to the lobby and asked the front desk if the room was actually a king and not a queen, and I was assured it was a king. I thanked the front desk staff and returned to my room. Now, because I knit, I always pack measuring tape with me on my trips, so I used that to measure the bed and it was 60" wide - a standa... Read more

This was our first trip to Chicago. This hotel was in an excellent location. Easy ride from the airport and very accessible because of the location and proximity to trains. I am not a hotel person but this hotel had style. Lobby is beautiful and the bar was a place that I felt comfortable in. Staff helpful, room was small but very clean and comfortable. We had everything that we needed..

We stayed in Kimpton Hotel Allegro for 3 nights. If you like Downtown location, this hotel is a good choice. Unfortunately, tat is the only good thing I have to say about this place. The rooms are small and have very thing walls. You can hear people talking, TV working, dogs barking (dogs are allowed), and everything else that is happening in the adjacent rooms - you are going to be aware of it. If you want a good night sleep after a busy day - forget it! Complimentary coffee being served in the... Read more

Stayed here in my last visit to Chicago in Aug 2015. This is one of the classy places in down town. Quite close to the other commercial places, hotel staff was very professional. One of the things I loved about it is it's music! Yes, the music in elevator was very nice! Morning breakfast of fruits, raisins etc was great and quite filling. Rooms were nice and clean. Room wi-fi was kind of ok and I could take my conference calls using it with minimum problem. Overall a good experience.

The standard king room was too small to accommodate two people comfortably. The bathroom was small and cramped and the sink counter space could not fit two individual sets of toiletries. There was only a desk chair in the room so two people could not sit together and enjoy a bottle of wine and a snack. Very unacceptable. The decor was dark and not very pleasing to the eye. I travelled to Chicago for a bridal shower, I was by myself this trip. The location was great, it was near several theatre's, if you're going to see a broadway show, stay here to walk less than a block to your venue. I walked to some shopping, seemed safe and two train stops about a block away. The hotel was pretty, decor was lovely. I chose a king room, i joined their hotel club and specified I didn't want to be near elevators. I arrived and was given a room across from the elevator, but I... Read more

There are so many different hotels in Chicago, it's difficult to know where to stay. We picked the Hotel Allegro firstly due to it being part of the Kimpton group so we knew we'd get free wifi and for the daily wine hour, but also for the location in the heart of the Loop. On arrival, we were greeted with a beautiful Art Deco building and an amazing reception area. Staff on the desk were friendly and courteous as would be expected. Invited to a wedding here, we enjoyed our stay..... Remodeled from its former self, and under the Klimpton name, it hangs well in the neighborhood. The Ballroom and walnut rooms were pleasant and handled 160 guests pretty well. The cocktails room was somewhat cramped and very noisy, but there were. Number of smaller areas to chat in, away from the crowd. One major drawback was the location of the restrooms - waaaaaaay across the hotel lobby and down a hallway, past the front desk...... Hotel Allegro is a very modern hotel in the theatre district. Short cab ride or walking distance to most locations within the city. The bell men had some of the nicest, most personable gentlemen that I have ever encountered traveling. They were super kind to my daughters and made a point of showing interest in their adventures in Chicago. The only thing missing from this hotel was a swimming pool. Beautiful hotel and nice amenities.

It's a great central location in the Loop, not far from the lake shore or other major attractions. The hotel was nice, funky decor inside the rooms, while the lobby did have an early 20th century theme to it. The rooms were a bit smaller than expected, and the bathroom was a little cramped. Very small breakfast provided, really only coffee and a few options for fruit, but there is a Starbucks and another restaurant attached to the hotel.

One thing I've learned about Kimpton, they Do Not disappoint. Plenty of open space lobby seating is somewhat expected from these guys & this location is no different. If you are looking for a private space, they have it, a place to congregate & chat, got that, a bar to meet new folks, got that too. Rooms are compact, well appointed as one would expect in the city. Great gym & meeting rooms make for an All-in-one property. Charming staff saw to all requests without hesitation. I'll be back here... Read more

Great hotel - old building that was newly remodeled. Love the old and new combo. I read many comments that complained of the room size - I did not find that issue. We stayed in a queen room on the 6th floor and it was nice sized. It had the bed, a full desk, dresser with tv and little sear my area. Social hour was busy and held in gorgeous lobby. Lots of events going on while we were there. Would definitely recommend!

I've stayed at the Allegro four times in the last two years for business. The rooms are well appointed and the hotel has lovely boutique charm. Like many hotels, this is an old world hotel that is now part of a chain. Has that ever worked out well? First, the hotel's directions say LaSalle at Randolph. The actual entrance is closer to Randolph and Wells. The building is a block long so LaSalle isn't wrong, but if you are walking head toward Wells to avoid walking an extra block. I'm guessing the website might say LaSalle because Wells is the street under the train - so it is probably better to sound like you are a block away. However, ... Read more
