Location of hotel is ideal for attractions and shopping but it does need a good overhaul of rooms to update them but the beds were extremely comfortable. The Wifi you could only use in the lobby free for 30 minutes so not good if you were on business.

My boyfriend and I recently visited the Inn of Chicago and were decently pleased! We are 18, so we booked this hotel due to their check in age being 18 and the reasonable room rates. The hotel has a nice lobby, comfy and inviting, and free wifi in the lobby. The rooms are fairly decet, with a comfy bed, soft and warm sheets, and nice tv with cable. The bathroom could use a little work though, with fading wallpaper, a very obvious old toilet, and slightly cracked flooring. The bathrooms along wit... Read more

Okay, so listen: the location is great. It really is in prime real estate. The problems: this place is filthy. The bathroom was so dirty that when I got there, I went a couple of blocks down to a Walgreens and bought clorox wipes. There were visible brown spatters on the wall near the shower, the shower curtain was stained, there were personal hairs on the floor, and I only had one out of 3 toiletry items. The carpet was old and stained. On day two, I returned to my room, and housekeeping had ... Read more

This could be a great hotel but it's not. The problem is that it's dirty and tired. They try to dress up the lobby like it's something special but the only thing special about this place is the location and the outside of the building. The front desk staff is unfriendly and doesn't understand being hospitable. They could work for the DMV. Check out the dirty elevators next. Then get off the elevator and enjoy the dirty carpet, that is worn out, and appears to rarely get vacuumed. Then the... Read more

The location is amazing! I room I was in tired and seemed like it was missing something (lots of empty space). I did have an issue that I addressed with management and they were great to respond and address my concern. Overall, it is a run down hotel that has done some renovations to try and look nice, however the beds were old, the room was dark and cold and the place is just not clean. Desk staff at check in was not very friendly, felt like they just wanted to check you and get back to somethi... Read more

First off, I didn't go in with a magnifying glass anticipating flaws. I went about my business and the room met my needs each time, whatever they were at the time. Bed was comfy, well lit, bug free, well ventilated, a block from Michigan St, nothing I could see wrong It accommodated well for 2 humble adults. Will strongly consider (and recommend) a return trip sometime down the line.

The lobby is nice and modern when you come in, but the new decor doesn't seem to have made it's way up the floors. The room was dated with obvious wear and tear, especially in the bathroom. The room isn't particularly well sound proofed - between the traffic on the street below and the hanky panky next door, it wasn't a great sleep. But the room was spacious and the location suited my purposes. it was very easy to walk from the hotel to the river or navy pier.

The room was pretty much what I had expected for the price. It's an awesome location, just steps to Magnificent Mile and under a mile to most other things (besides the museums). Room was simple, decently clean. I always bring Raid beg bug spray with me no matter where I go, so I sprayed the entire bed and surrounding areas just in case. I saw something that resembled a bed bug that was dead, but I couldn't be sure. Either way, get the spray just in case. Everything worked fine, we didn't need mu... Read more

Great location is the key attraction for this hotel. This property is in need of a complete renovation, with worn out carpeting, peeling wallpaper and ceiling and marred furniture. While the staff is attentive, this hotel lacks many amenities, i.e. restaurant, attractive lounge, business center, gift shop, etc. If staying more then one night or with a family, I would consider another property in the area.

This hotel has a very good location, walking distance to the pier and Magnificent Mile. However the rooms are dated, carpets don't look very clean and the worst is the noise of the air conditioner. The staff was friendly. Expensive for the conditions.

I stay here every year or so and find it consistently clean with good service. My room was immaculate but, of course, dated. Bathrooms are small as are most older Downtown hotels. What puts this above some of the other older hotels in the area is they have a roof-top patio to grab a little sun and/or fresh air. Other affordable hotels to do not have that. They should keep the patio open later than 10 pm. This is close to many great restaurants of all price ranges and activities.

We booked this hotel as a last resort for a last minute trip we were going on. There was no inventory in town due to several festivals going on. I will start with the Pros because it is a short list: location is perfect, later check out, and comfortable bed. Could be lovely but very disappointed. Cons: The lobby furniture is dirty and worn. Hallway carpet is soiled and stained. We had a corner room with lots of light but outdated furnishings, cobwebs and dirt on window sills, peeling paint in bathroom, no toilet paper, no hand towels, and the weirdest sheets that felt like you and the bed were wrapped in plastic. Pros: The location is just great! We loved hanging out on the rooftop terrace. Price is very reasonable for downtown.

This is an old building. It has been upgraded over the years and is scheduled for a facelift in 2017. As it is old, the rooms and bathrooms are small by today's standards. That is the only negative. The rooms are clean, beds are comfortable and the linens are of good quality. The shower gushes forth with plenty of hot water and pressure. The room amenities are a little thin. Coffee and toiletries are about it. The lobby is nicely furnished with large windows looking out on the downtown Chicago s... Read more

Although this is an older hotel without some of the glitz of newer ones, it is comfortable enough and staffed by lovely people. Great view of the city from the 22nd floor terrace. Our room had a standard double bed and a small but serviceable bathroom. Coffeeshop adjacent to and connected to the lobby made breakfast easy. Centrally located so much of the city is within walking distance.

Chicago was fantastic but not the hotel. Staff was very helpful but rooms are tiny and need updating. Elevators were extremely small. Toilet ran constantly. Air conditioning was noisy and would drown out the TV. Carpet in hallways was torn and needs replacement.

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel last minute via hotels.com because it was cheap and a great location. As soon as we got to our room, we knew we made a bad choice. There was no fitted sheet on the bed, it was dirty, everything was stained and old, the hallways smelled like marijuana, and there was a lady in lobby complaining that someone broke into her room and stole her phone. If you are under 21 and looking for a place to stay, I suggest the Marriott on the Magnificent Mile because they bo... Read more

We stayed here in July when we went to Chicago to watch FC Bayern. Short walk from the Grand station. Within walking distance of the Magnificent Mile or if you're not much of a shopper, just head in the other direction where you can walk through and take in the beautiful sites in Grant Park. The hotel itself is somewhat dated yet seems new at the same time. The lobby is nicely decorated and offers free WI-FI in the lounge area. The room was efficient for our needs which is to say, we simply cann... Read more

What can I say, with all hotels being above average price in Chicago and very similar to New York and London prices, I was expected to see a 5-star hotel here when I booked the Inn of Chicago, but surprisingly, this hotel isn't as bad as some people make it out to be. Yes the room decor is very outdated, but the rooms are clean and has all of the basics a hotel should have and for the price, I was expecting anything more being in downtown. Our stay at the Inn of Chicago was great this summer. Appreciate the cleanliness, friendliness and convenience of this hotel. But especially the price. Need this kind of offer for those of us who don't spend that much time in the room or in Chicago. It was great. Thanks for everything.

We loved this hotel due to the location. The room was smaller as you would expert in an older building but the location was perfect. The staff was very helpful-Silvia on Day shift, Eillie at Night. There was only one gentleman at the front desk afternoons who did not seem to know answers to out questions. The CTA was easy to navigate around the city and it was a very cost effective means to get around. Our vist could not have been better.

This hotel has a great location for shopping, restaurants, the Navy Pier and many other tourist locations in the area. The staff were friendly and space was very clean. Pricing was average for the area and we were out and about most of the time so the room was functional for us. The rooms are very small and the restroom was the size of a cruise ship restroom. My wifw and myself stayed there for five nights in mid August. The first morning we asked to be moved to a different room because of the noise from the service elevatoir and the ice machine, which they did. It's quite difficult to rate this hotel, it's prob a bit better than average but it's not as good as very good! First the good points: Brilliant location, literally less than 1 minute to magnificent mile. Helpful staff, clean rooms, comfy bed, powerful shower. Now the not so good: Very tired once you get past reception which has had a face lift that the rest of the hotel desperately needs. We came to Chicago to celebrate my husbands 50th birthday and since I had never been we wanted to support a "non-chain" hotel. I chose Inn of Chicago for its location, charm (pictures) and price. As soon as we hit the elevators I started wondering about that choice. We had requested a high floor, we got the 7th. This is my second stay this summer at this place. This time, we had two rooms that had air conditioner issues. The first one leaked so badly it was creating a lake in the room. The second one sounded like a jet engine. Finally they gave us a room with air that worked but it took some virtual begging on our part. I was disappointed because I like this hotel and love the location.

The pros: clean room, rate, friendly staff, great terrace, amazing location, and they allowed us an early check-in. The so-so: at least all of the hallways I walked through is in need of new carpet, and all of the trim work needs a fresh coat of paint. Hotel needs new lobby furniture in front of front desk. Old fixtures, and overall sub standard that you'd expect from properties that have long ago become unfit for any reputable chain of hotels. The staff was great. They were very friendly and helpful. The location was fantastic. We walked just about everywhere we went but we like the exercise. The hotel is central to shopping and da Lobsta, which we love but also other restaurants. The rooms could use a renovation especially the bathrooms. However we didn't spend a ton of time in the room. The walls are thin and the hotel in general needs an update....but, if you can get past that and are looking to only use the hotel as a place to sleep and shower then you are in for a great weekend in Chicago, I say weekend, as I would not stay here anymore than two or three nights. The hotel is located within walking distance to the Magnificent Mile. The rooms are dated, somewhat smaller, but clean. The staff was very accommodating. Parking was poor. I was forced to use an adjacent self parking structure which charged 46 dollars per 24 hours. Overall, a nice hotel if you are looking on the cheaper side with access to walkable downtown and shopping. If you are looking for flashy, posh hotel rooms this will not be your place. My husband and I really enjoyed our stay here. BUT we used a Groupon and would have never paid full price. The room and bathroom were nice but basic. The location is really what stands out about this hotel. It could not be more centrally located! Since our trip was so short we wanted to make the most of our time. If we get a Groupon in the future we'd stay here again, but not without one. I would suggest not using the hotel parking! There are cheaper options very close by.

Two things this hotel has going for it; location and friendly staff. It is well situated for the local attractions and restaurants (and shopping if you want it!) all within walking distance. However, our room and the communal areas were very tired and in desperate need of a refresh.
