Good value. Hotel staff courteous, welcoming and accommodating. Room rates can vary quite widely depending on time of year/university activities. Valet parking courteous but delays can occur when attendants are not present. Offers and other courtesies come with (free) Hyatt GoldPassport membership.

This hotel was nice and affordable for Chicago. It was located within walking distance of a major metro stop and was surrounded by really good restaurants and a chocolate/fudge shop. Also near the hotel was a good place to get beer and all the major Chicago sights were not far.

Have stayed at the Hyatt Place in Hyde Park a few times over the past couple of years since they first opened up and would choose to opt to stay here any time I am visiting Chicago, rather than downtown. The staff has always been great, very friendly and attentive. The housekeeping seems to be doing a good job of keeping the rooms fresh and new looking. There are so many choices of places to eat within a few blocks, there is Harper Theater is a cute little movie theater just across the street... Read more

I love this hotel. It's really the only good option in the neighborhood so commands a high price, but I'm always willing to pay it. You will not find better customer service. Convenient 24/7 food available in room or in lobby, coffee counter, snacks, huge breakfast selection, spacious rooms, shuttle available every day, great lobby to hang out in and entertain locals whom you are visiting.

This is a good hotel; would say great, but a bit overpriced. If you stay here, make sure you tell them not to put you in a room that faces Harper Court; gets noisy with the outdoor dining and music. Otherwise, I would totally stay here again.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Hyatt Place in Hyde Park, Chicago while we visited for my 50th Reunion from U Chicago. We loved staying at this property! It was a comfortable walk to campus and in a great neighborhood for restaurants and shops. The hotel was outstanding -- our room was perfect and the property had everything we could have wanted!

If you are visiting the Univ of Chicago this is a convenient location, especially as there is a free shuttle to the campus. However, I paid $400 for one night for a double queen with sofa sleeper (including taxes and $35 valet parking). This is a ridiculous amount for a low tier Hyatt. There is breakfast, but no food or bar service otherwise. The staff is aloof, bordering on unfriendly, except for the valet and the shuttle driver.

We stayed here for one night as a stopover from flying into Chicago late and driving out to family a few hours away. My husband wanted to stay on the lake to run in the morning and most of downtown was booked. This however, was a great location. We got in too late for dinner but not too late for a nightcap. It is in a nice neighborhood with small shops, restaurants and a small park. I was able to use the small but functional gym at the hotel while my husband was able to get in a nice run al... Read more

The rooms were very spacious and accommodating for business and pleasure. I would choose this location again. The staff was outstanding and the breakfast was good. The hotel was located in Hyde Park in an area that was around shopping and places to eat.

for almost 50 years, i have averaged 40 nights a week at hotels first time that (1) room not made up when I returned at 5 (2) response from desk was "What do you want me to do?" (3) consistent with general atmosphere of staff more interested in talking with each other than guest

Nice location with many restaurants in walking distance. Mello Yellow is a diner type restaurant and I had delicious chicken and waffles for breakfast. There is a Starbucks down the street as well as an Einstein Bagel for breakfast. The hotel breakfast is par for the course for a free breakfast.A1 is conveniently across the street, great atmosphere is you don't mind a little noise, but the food is pricey and rich. The Promontory is a few blocks away and has nice outdoor seating. Great beds a... Read more

I loved this location, it's close to downtown but careful when taking the metra because service is limited after certain times. They do have a shuttle that will take you anywhere within the University Area. The area has a lot of places to eat and shop and is very safe after dark with campus security standing or driving the campus. The hotel staff are very friendly, breakfast was excellent but go early because they won't put anymore food or coffee out 15 minutes prior to the end time. The room wa... Read more

My son and I arrived late and left early for a one-night stay at the Hyatt Place. But we got what we paid for--and a little more, if you include the nice hot breakfast and free shuttle to U. of Chicago (about 7 mins away).

We went to Chicago to attend a University of Chicago orientation for prospective students. My daughter received an invite, The Hyatt was perfectly placed for this! it had shuttle busses running to the campus. Hotel was within walking distance and was centered in an area of restaurant and shops. There was a block party going on Friday and Saturday. Made it a little difficult to get the car parked, but very peaceful. The entire Hyde Park area is a series of row houses dating to late nineteenth and... Read more

Honestly, no matter how many times we go to this hotel, the stay is always excellent. This time we had our family reunion there and it was absolutely the best thing ever. We stayed on the 5th floor and had 2 suites and it was so great. We also had a wonderful experience during breakfast each day. There was this young man who was always there to assist during the early morning hours. He had this wonderful personality and each time we saw him and asked could he assist us with something, he would ... Read more

Overall, this place is located in heart of South Chicago. The Hyde park area is so happening and all the famous food joints are besides the Hotel. JA Grill, Chipotle, MC Donalds, Star Bucks, CHANT, SUBWAY, PAPA JOHN's, Dominos and many more are just cross the road. When I checked in on dated 4th June 2016 there was some carnival going on in that area and it was so good to see that. They have cozy and comfortable rooms and a very friendly staff. I must say that they have nice variety of breakfas... Read more

I wish I could move the entire staff to Michigan and hire them all. The service was top notch, we had issues on the trip down and we were cranky. They went out of their way to calm us down and help us figure things out. That level of service continued the three nights we stayed.

This hotel is new, clean and bright, just like a brand new school dorm. Many guests here stay for long, i.e. One week. There are not too many rooms. It is a small friendly hotel with inviting atomosphere. This hotel is located in Harper Square/53rd St. which is a collection of some trendy restaurants. Within 3-4 blocks walk, you get Whole Foods, McDonalds, BP gas. A 1 min drive can bring you to Hyde Park Square - Another shopping mall plus 55th street restaurants - Korean, Japanese, Thai, ... I have actually stayed here three times. The first time in early 2015 I thought was OK, the second time in early 2016 was so-so, and the most recent time was terrible. I won't be back, despite this being the most convenient hotel for meetings at U. of Chicago. When I checked in around 4:30pm, I was told my room needed to be double-checked by housekeeping to confirm it was properly cleaned. I heard the clerk ask housekeeping to call the front desk once they checked. I was told to take a seat... Read more

Stayed four nights at this hotel. We had one dinner and several breakfasts. Location of the hotel is good. Staff was courteous and helpful. We rested well as fourth floor was generally quiet even during a music festival in the street next to the Hyatt.

This is a very clean and spruced up inner city location. The staff clearly spends lots of time training to treat guests very well. Valet was quick (if expensive), check in was pleasant, and the treats in the lobby lounge were delicious. The beds were SUPER cozy and the shower was nice and hot. We ordered dinner (after a LONG week at a National competition, we had NO interest in venturing out) from the TO GO menu. My initial experience was dreadful. I arrived at the hotel after along travel day to find that the hotel did not have a room for me. Despite the fact that my room was being held for late arrival with a credit card, the hotel resold my room and sent me to a substandard room at a substandard motel. I had booked a room at the rate of $279 per night and they sent me to a hotel that sells its rooms for less than $100 per night., hardly comparable. I was not offered another option. We stayed in the Hyde Park area while visiting our daughter and son-in law. The hotel is perfect if you are in this area for the university of Chicago and Hyde Park. If you want to get downtown, remember it is like going from Queens to Manhattan. We had to rely on PT to get around, and unfortunately it was fair at best. Some bus trips took over an hour to get from point A to point B. The Train was a better option. We never used the Metra system, but other lines worked well. If you don't mind the... Read more

Central location, just minutes from the University of Chicago. Public transportation is plentiful, with multiple choices between, train (Metra), bus or taxi. The rooms are clean comfortable. There is a huge Chicago Police presence in the general area and the community is quite safe with many options for interesting and various dining experiences. The excellent staff was always friendly and helpful. . Ask always about additional cost to park your vehicle.

Overall this is a typical chain Hyatt, but it's got a good location and the staff is pleasant. Free breakfast was ok, but not any better than at any number of competitors who charge less for the room.
