I booked this hotel with a bit of nervousness due to reviewer's comments about room size. We walked into the lobby and were immediately greeted by Kurtis. Very friendly guy. Quick check in and we walked to the elevators. My husband is picky and I was a bit nervous because I read in other reviews that they were slow. Not at all a problem. Over our 3 day stay the longest we waited was 2 minutes at most. The room was immaculate. Small, but not uncomfortable. Ok, I'm not a tiny person, and I didn't... Read more

I commend Holiday Inn putting their flag on a non-traditional, vintage hotel in a "A" location in River North. Close to MI Ave and a nice little walk to the loop, this hotel is well located and carries the typical consistencies in terms of a Holiday Inn Express experience including quality breakfast, clean rooms. I almost gave three stars due to poor quality of fitness center and related equipment and marginal room layouts. While I never have a problem with small rooms, in fact, I like them a... Read more

The Holiday Inn Express is located right downtown at a convenient location. The rooms are small but very comfortable and have a European flair. I was impressed from the moment we pulled up by the helpful, courteous, and friendly staff. They were extremely gracious and made our stay memorable. Beautiful building, great location, excellent staff.

This place is a great little gem in the heart of Chicago. Very cozy and intimate, clean and updated and has breakfast! It is so close to so many things, too numerous to mention! It is 2 blocks off Michigan Ave but right where you want to be as it is quiet at night. It was very reasonable except for parking which is not included any where in that area. As I stated it is a "little" gem and little it is. All we did is sleep here as it is not a place you want to be long term as the room was small as... Read more

The location was great. Everyone here was very friendly. The doorman and the Valet drivers are very polite and professional. The breakfast was okay. The rooms were clean, but they are very small. It was fine for us because we only kept our stuff there and slept there. It was good for the price and location. Just a very short walk away from the Magnificent Mile.

Very small room!!! You must be able to climb maybe 6 or 7 steps when you enter the building. Building was old and average, room was clean, average but thin walls. Didn't get much sleep. Free wi fi but couldn't connect. Won't stay there again.

I knew the room would be small based on reviews but my head was literally 6 inches from the door. The layout didn't seem right and there were no nightstands on either side of the bed, just a desk but it was in the corner of the room. Location was perfect and we got a deal on the hotel. Breakfast was okay, nothing special. Would stay again if the price was right but definitely wouldn't pay anymore than we did.

I've always stayed at Holiday Inn Express Hotels and in North America, this is the smallest room i've encountered so far, even smaller than rooms in Asia. We had barely any space to put our luggage let alone open it and you have to be a couple to survive bumping into each other in this room. This, given the fact that we are fairly small in size. Aside from the small room, the staff were also not as good as in other branches, they often seem busy and they don't really make you feel that special ... Read more

It has tiny room but it's decent for it's price and location is great . Staffs are good . Only one complain I had that they don't help people to drag luggage above their staircase to check in counter as they don't have any lift there You can walk to most of Chicago city landmark and that's best part and a supermarket is just in... I have stayed here before, the main attraction is that it is relatively close to the Loop and all the downtown attractions, probably about 15 minutes walk. There are also a large number of very good restaurants and bars even closer. It is also a lot cheaper than some of the other hotels in this location. Free wifi was an added benefit, I had a good fast connection in my room which was on the 7th floor. Yes the rooms are on the small side, but importantly the beds are a good size and very comfort... This is the former Hotel Cass, located on what formerly was Cass Street. The entrance immediately informs you that you are not at a typical Holiday Inn. The foyer is smallish, and there are three steps up to the registration desk; there is no ramp nor is there an elevator to registration. The bellman was happy to carry my suitcase to the desk. My husband & I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Hotel Cass from 6/15 - 6/18/16. The location is really ideal, which is why we chose it (as well as the price point). The free breakfast was a really nice perk, the offerings about what you'd expect (yogurt, cereal, fruit, juices, pre-made omelettes, cinnamon rolls, biscuits & gravy, pancakes). A nice way to start the day without having to pay $35 for light breakfast. We didn't drive, so can't comment on the parking situation. Free Wi-Fi, doc... Read more

This is a Holiday Inn Express in what was formerly a classic old hotel. The place has character. We have stayed here two times and for us it worked. The location is great to walk to many restaurants, Eataly, and other stores. For those with a bit of energy, the Art Institute and Millennium Park are in easy walking distance. The rooms are on the small size, but adequate and clean.

Vintage classic with new twists. Great location, clean and very good buffet breakfast with least cost for the area around Michigan Ave. Staff was very friendly. Only downside to this building is the rooms are very very very small. No furniture except bed and wall tv. Had to walk sideways to get around room. If yo are just looking for clean room it is fine. Yes, rooms are small, but beds are comfortable. Shower was great. We had two queens which were more like full size, a small bench seat, and a night stand. Rooms seemed pretty sound proof. Heard people when they went into their rooms but not after. It was clean, and breakfast was the standard Holiday Inn Express which is good. GPS takes many people to the wrong place around the corner so they might want to check that out.

The hotel was built in the 1920s and used to be known as Hotel Cass. The Cass name still remains outside the hotel. Compared to my other HI Express experiences this one had very small rooms. We had a queen bed room and there was not too much space around the bed to move about or place our roller bags. The room was not very well insulated for noise. Free breakfast is standard HI Express buffet fare that is kept well stocked throughout the morning. Very friendly staff. The architecture and decor are attractive and fun. The rooms are as small as other reviews state they are. This is not the place to stay if you are planning on spending much time in your room or need space to "spread out". It was fin... Read more

If you got business needs in Downtown, good place where you will get free break fast and Wi-Fi. However, the room i got is on 8th floor and it is so small that i could barely fit it.Staff and Manager were very friendly and good service. All is well except that i don't have a fridge or oven in that small room of mine. Good if you dont plan to stay long. IF that is for a long stay, try requesting another rooms, see if they are fine and then check in, apart from 8th floor .

This is a good hotel if you are not in the room a lot (which most people are not!) because the location to attractions, restaurants and nightlife. We stayed here for just one night in the summer. We had 4 adults in one room and it was way too small! It was the smallest hotel room I have ever been in. I understand it is a historic hotel so it brings a unique factor to the room. However, I would not recommend more than 2 adults staying in the room. There was not room to walk or put any bags or lug... Read more

My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend away from the kids. The location is unbeatable. It's a few minutes walk from the Mile and a bunch of great restaurants. It's only a 20 minute walk or so to Navy Pier as well as the Art Institute. The Trader Joe's across the street is helpful for the frugal. Unfortunately the lack of a fridge in the rooms makes it hard to keep things. The rooms are incredibly small (think tiny chest of drawers in the closet) and the walls are thin. That was ... Read more

This hotel was fantastic! Dont listen to the negative reviews. This hotel is super clean and in a great location. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Yes, the rooms are tiny, but you are not in Chicago to stay in your room all day. I highly recommend this hotel AND you cant beat the price!

Great location that puts you very close to the Magnificent Mile. The room and bathroom was smaller than we expected, but for downtown Chicago at the prices they offer it is worth it - plus it's Chicago and you really shouldn't be in your room too often anyway. In the lobby, they serve a very large breakfast - which saves you money when you're traveling. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a cheaper place to stay, but a place that is still nice enough to where you're not sea... Read more

I visited Chicago for a business trip and needed to be in a central location and this hotel certainly fulfilled that need. It is an old hotel that I guess was taken over by Holiday Inn. The rooms are SUPER small. I am not sure how you would get two people in one of the rooms as I was cramped and it was just me for two nights. I talked to another guest who was struggling with two people trying to get through their morning routines. The closet in the room is awful. The closet bar is only abo... Read more

This is a well located old hotel, taken over by Holiday Inn Express and did a nice job rehabbing the property. Inexpensive at downtown Chicago. However the rooms are very small and barely can walk around the room. Very small window.

I was given a room with a king size bed and it was across from the gym and near end of the hall, felt a little creepy. It was $400 a night because there was a convention in town and the place felt tired and a little dirty. I wouldn't stay here again although I generally enjoy HIE.
