I was told at check in I was being given an excellent room on the 12th floor. It turns out what they consider an excellent room was directly behind the elevator shaft. Either the front desk is incompetent or uninformed in any event it was a very poor experience.

The hotel is in excellent position, just in the middle of the Magnificent Mile, which is the shopping heaven in Chicago. The service are good, also: I've especially enjoyed the gym. The bad news come from the room: small, below par in terms of general appearance. The internet connection in the rooms comes at an insanely high price (15$ a day, at least), even if there is free internet in the lobby. I was here for a conference, and the conference facilities are remarkable, but in my opinion the fi... Read more

We have stayed at many Marriott hotels and never felt compelled to write a review. This time we felt the need to comment on our recent stay at this one. The room rate was discounted to approximately $310 ( includes taxes and hotel fees) was the smallest room we have ever encountered. The bathroom was so tiny only one person could be in there at a time. When you opened the bathroom door it barely cleared the toilet. There were only too small lights on either side of bathroom mirror which made i... Read more

The hotel is centrally located and when I visit Chicago for work, I can easily access restaurants and shops all over Magnificent Mile. Rooms are average with plenty of storage. It could use brightening up with new carpet and lighting, but I'm comfortable when I stay here. I order breakfast room service and it's great. I would venture out and try restaurants in the area for lunch and dinner.

I recently had a block of rooms here for a wedding party and I must say the staff was all excellent. From the event planning group to the bellhops, every staff member was extremely kind and made the experience worthwhile. It must be admitted, the biggest pitfall of this location is the size of the rooms, they are all quite small unless you are willing to shell out almost $100 more for a "plus" room. The rooms are very nice and modern, well maintained, but you could probably encounter "better d... Read more

Hotel is located on the Magnificent Mile which is wonderful. Walking on Michigan St was a shoppers dream. My room was a bit small but that could be overlooked. Tiny bathroom. Hotel is aged and could use a major overhaul. Broken tiles, old fixtures and old windows that do nothing to drown out the noise! Sirens all night could have been right in my room! The Windows also seem to cause a problem with regulating temperature. Bedding was the best and what I look forward to about any Marriott proper... Read more

I'd give this a 3.5 if we could rate in increments of half-points. My stay at this Marriott was part of a quick weekend guys trip (Friday mid-day to Sunday late morning). For the price (low $200's a night with AAA discount), this seemed to be the ideal location for being on Michigan Avenue in the heart of the city. Once we all arrived and started our weekend, we realized that we didn't necessarily need to be on Michigan avenue, as we did more eating/drinking west of that location vs. shopping o... Read more

Stayed at the Marriott for a business trip. Got a room with. A view of the lake and it was recently renovated. Very nicely appointed. Two things that made this stay better than most - 1) the gym - was one of the best I've ever been to in a hotel. Lots of machines, well maintained. Never had to wait to use the equipment even in the busy mornings. The other item was the breakfast - the buffet was very good and Cliff's omelet was a great way to start the day.

This is a typical Marriott in a good location. Some rooms are being renovated but we got on old one. Rooms are tired and minimally equipped: only one coffee pack per day for example. Wifi cost $14.95 a day and, even though we are Marriott members, we had to pay because we booked through Expedia. It's a steep price to pay for what most others offer for free. Overall it's the location that makes this a worthwhile booking.

I stay at hotels 5-7 times per year and was not expecting more than the usual amenities. The bathroom was not clean, hair (lots of it) left on the floor. The air conditioner was barely acceptable. The restaurant had the same 10 item menu everyday. Although i could swear I saw images of their pool, please note there is no pool. However, the staff was kind and helpful. Check-in and out easy. Another thing that really ticked us off was that it was 15 dollars EACH DAY for wifi in our room. The view I saw up in the high floors of this Marriott will astound you. Really nice. Very clean, very classy place. Modern and sleek design all around. I'd recommend this hotel to others. It's also in the Magnificent Mile, so you're real close to a lot in Downtown Chicago.

Have stayed here for at least 4 or 5 times. The location is the key point , but it is not the same. No more access ( even if you pay extra) to amenities such as slippers and bathrobes. The noise level of the Lobby has increased tremendously. Will be making another choice next time in Chicago

A nice Marriott, especially if you get a renovated room with a city view. We stayed here for a convention - it's about a 15 minute bus ride to the convention center. Harvest is a great spot for breakfast in the morning and the lobby bar was always packed at night.

This huge property is in the process of updating all the guest rooms. I believe rooms 27 and above are all new and they will continue this winter on the other floors. The newly designed rooms are well designed. Stayed here for 7 days and this place never disappoints.

Right on the magnificent mile, close to everything. Rooms are older but it appears that updates have begun. The fitness center is amazing. They have everything you can imagine for equipment, free weights, medicine balls, yoga balls, mats, foam rollers, towels plus a fitness lab with spinning bikes and on demand classes play on a wall size TV. Whole Foods, Trader Joe near by, unfortunately no fridge or microwave in the room. Location, location, location....

The rooms for our professional meetings were nice, service was very friendly as usual but the accommodations? Not so great, sorry to say. I roomed with a colleague and we had no room to put much of anything in drawers, had to live out of my suitcase. The "room service" is fast but it isn't from a typical kitchen, more like a glorified snack bar. Again, not great for a Marriott. I was disappointed and we've been going to that hotel for business for many, many years.

Great location near sights, restaurants, and shopping. So much within walking distance or a short cab ride. Staff is friendly, helpful, and professional. Rooms on upper floors offer a great view of the city. Lobby bar was jam-packed and very loud at happy hour, so I was glad to have access to the concierge lounge. Would definitely stay here again.

Attended a convention which was located at the hotel and stayed. Booked late so I ended up in the high rise section in a room likely used as a suite. The room had a great view of the city, a nice seating area and was very clean and modern. Would have preferred a real bed vs the Murphy bed we ended up with. It was more comfortable than sleeping on someone's couch bed but not great. While the price was high it was likely cheap for the view, location and gym. Wow, I have never seen a gym that ... As other have written, the #1 feature of this hotel is its location - at the very heart of Chicago's famous Magnificent Mile. Unfortunately other than the location this hotel falls short of many of the basics. I was disappointed that my Platinum Elite rewards level, did not seem to resonate with the front desk. Upon check-in there was no mention of it. The lobby becomes extremely noisy in the evening - the open lobby bar features multiple TV's and becomes a rowdy sports bar. Nothing wrong with ... Read more

Very nice hotel in a great location. I felt very safe walking in the area. Staff was very friendly. Easy walk to Navy Pier and down to the Bean and the Art Museum. Many good restaurants and pubs in the area. A few blocks away you can get on boats for tours. Michigan Ave. is fun to walk but didn't buy anything. A little loud outside at times because of sirens but that is not hotels fault. You are in a big city. The gym was great.

Stayed overnight while handling some business. It actually exceeded my expectations. Loved the floor-to-ceiling windows and that it was in the heart of the downtown area nearby many restaurants. Room was clean, provided a safe and nice toiletries, and the bed was very comfortable. Concierge was available to assist with planning any outings. Considering i didn't book the room in advance, the cost of the room was still very affordable and well worth the stay.

The room we had was so tiny it was ridiculous and it also looked nothing like the pictures on the website. The bed is TERRIBLE!! My husband is dealing with severe back pain from sleeping on it. I also heard everyone one around our room come and go all night (the sound proofing is non existent. The room is badly in need of an update. Furniture and bathroom is showing significant wear and tear. When we return to Chicago we will return to our normal favorite, the renaissance hotel.

The location of this hotel could not be better. Right on Michigan Avenue, you walk into the main attraction. The lobby is lovely and the staff are very helpful. My only ding on this property is the rooms. They are sorely in need of updating. Everything is small and a little drab and the furniture slightly beat up. Also, don't stay by the elevator. It is extra noisy. So, if you are looking for location at a decent price and don't mind the rooms, this is your place.

Visiting Chicago for a few days to get away with my wife, and currently staying at the Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. Hotel is definitely not that nice and needs updating. Biggest issue is that the rooms can only be cooled or heated but not both. During the day it was warm so the room needed cooling but when the temperature dropped into the 50s the heat wouldn't work because the system is old and they hadn't turned on the heat yet. There was nothing special about my stay, but it wasn't bad either. I would say that the lobby becomes very loud as people file into it. During happy hour you have to yell to hear each other. The good thing was the location and the room which was on a very high floor with excellent views of the city and the lake. The room was renovated and more modern than at a typical Marriott, which was refreshing. One complaint is the "executive" lounge which was packed with families with kids on the weekend. We had two rooms on the 27th floor. The hotel was experiencing issues regarding heat and cooling. For Chicago, the weather was a little high for this time of the year (in the 50's). It seems that this made it impossible to turn off the heat in one of the rooms. It was miserably hot, and they got maintenance to open up the window a little bit.
