This hotel is located centrally with access to everything downtown. Our suite was all that you would expect and service was spot on. We booked the room through a friend that worked for the hotel and when we arrived, a cart of our favorite beers on ice was rolled into the room.

We recently attended our nephew's wedding and stayed at The James. It is incredibly well situated, being just off Michigan Avenue, and in walking distance to Wacker Drive, the Navy Pier and Lincoln Park. The accommodations were very nice, the beds comfortable, etc. The best part of our experience were the people at the hotel who could not do enough to make our stay very pleasant. This includes the cleaning staff who were very polite and who did a very good job each day. If we return to Chicag... Read more

I stayed at the James Hotel so that I could attend a private party near the hotel and not have to drive home afterwards. The hotel and staff were awesome. I loved the room, hotel location and best of all the comfortable bed and pillows. OMG!!! I also love that the James Hotel has a 2pm check out time. Of course I stayed and bed and recuperated after a long night of partying. Thank you to the staff, bellhop, valet and front desk for a pleasant 1 night stay.

The staff makes this hotel great. Location is nice and convenient. Easy to get to everything from the hotel. Room was a little dark but the interaction with the staff more than made up for it. They were all super friendly and delivered on any promise they made. There was a small problem with the bathroom shower leaking. They sent us a bottle of wine to make up for the issue. Superior service at the James.

This hotel was listed as 4.5 stars on a third party website. I was thrilled with the location but, I don't think it was on par with 4.5 stars. The hotel is minimalist in decor, and some of the finishes are not very nice. However, the (standard) room I had was gigantic, with two separate lounging areas plus a table and chairs. The bathroom was also large although, there was no way to keep the shower water from spraying onto the bathroom floor. The white couch seemed a bit dingy and the dark ... Read more

There's a parking garage adjacent to the hotel, enter off of Ohio or Rush. The parking price ($48 a night) was horrible, but that's Chicago parking.

I liked that they had filtered water in the room that was refilled daily, free of charge. I travel ALOT and rarely complain but this hotel was beyond awful. The room was small with no draws and barely a cupboard. The bathroom had a lack of space and was probably 2 x 2 if I had to guess. I asked to be on a quiet floor, 14th and all I heard were fire trucks and ambulances all day and night. The service was actually okay and so was the resturant. The gym was amazing but had no air conditioning, I mean none. All in all I will never go back

We booked a surprise 4.5 star on hotwire.com which ended up being the James Hotel. The location was phenomenal in River North...just a couple blocks away from the Magnificent Mile. We loved that their checkout was 2pm! Coffee was delicious in the morning, and the rooms were clean & quiet. I didnt go to the spa but the services looked great, and my husband said the gym was really nice. I'd definitely stay here again in the future!

The location is perfect, just off N Michigan Avenue, within walking distance to most places. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The hotel was very clean, the wifi was free and good. My room was large, more a suite than a room, as was the bathroom with great bath products. The bed was very comfortable with perfect firmness. A liter of water was provided free of charge every day. Definitely recommend!

Putting you within easy walking distance, less than a mile, of some great restaurants and attractions and medium walking distance, 2 miles or less, from even more attractions and parks. If you happen to take the train into the city it's only a 5 minute cab ride to the hotel as well. Overall, good views, good service and clean rooms that serves a great base for sightseeing.

The James boutique hotel appears on a number of 'Top 10' lists, and for good reasons. For starters: it's location can't be beat, for business, shopping and fine dining, just off the Magnificent Mile on Ontario Avenue. After a $50US rush hour cab ride, from O'Hare, I was greeted upon arrival like an old friend; even though this was my first stay here. The James Hotel is a great place to stay in Chicago. The rooms were extremely comfortable, and nicely decorated, the staff was over-the-top friendly, and the hotel is very conveniently located. I don't think I ever heard a negative comment from anyone -- any request was always met with something like, "Absolutely.". They were always very helpful, and always available to open the door or welcome us back upon return.

I can not say enough great things about this hotel!!! I have literally stayed at dozens of Chicago's more "higher end" hotels and its some things about this one that make it number one on my list. First, the location! One block off Michigan Ave right by Apple and the Michael Jordan Steakhouse. Second, the rooms. I was upgraded (complimentary) to a king suite!! I had never heard of the James until I saw a special on the Food Network about David Burke's Primehouse. It is connected to the hotel. So when I realized we would be in town for 1 night we decided to stay at the hotel and dine at the restaurant. What a pleasant surprise!! Everything from the size of the hotel to the bed in the room itself was comfortable. Pleasant staff, eager to please and help in any way. A great stay!

The hotel is in a great part of town, but that is the only thing it has going for it. The hotel rooms look like college dorms, the standard rooms have double beds in them (small enough to knock stuff off the bed side table when stretching), the walls are so thin-you can hear the person in the room next to you open their shades, the lamp had stains on it, the ice machine is a bucket of ice that has the scoop in it at all times in a dimly lit area behind a creepy curtain and even though the front... We stay at the James every Thanksgiving because they always go beyond our expectation. The location of the hotel could not be better - you are 1 block away from the best part of Michigan Ave. in the center of the city. This area has the best shopping, and is really close to Lake Shore Drive, the parks, as well as the other side of Michigan Avenue, where you have the Millennium Park and the Art Institute (which houses the best Impressionist Art collection in the US). The rooms are a good size, ... Read more

We picked the hotel because of its location in North River. Two blocks away from red line subway station connected to the airport and two blocks away from Michigan. Great costumer service, nice rooms walking distance from almost everywhere. We were at floor 17 but I think (this is subjetive) the hotel needs an update.

My husband and I stayed at The James this past weekend. The location is great, only a block off of Michigan Ave. The staff was very attentive and did everything they could to make our weekend special.

This is a perfect location. The hotel is modern, the rooms are big, the bed are excellent and personnel is very kind and helpfull. I liked the "bio" product provided in the bath room. I only regret the "air conditionning type of noise" coming from outside from probably the building in front of my room(1711). Anyway, in this big city there is always background noise ! The breakfast is very good (good quality croissant) but expensive. There is a public parking just at the corner of the street.

I have a preference for boutique hotels because, generally, the service is better. This was my first stay at the James Hotel and with a few notable exceptions the experience was excellent. The front desk staff was exceptional; friendly, helpful, and well trained. My room was large enough, very clean, modernized, and comfortable. The bar staff was very good, if not as good as the front desk staff. My only real issue was the quality of the equipment in the workout facility. To me it is unaccep... Read more
